  • Most effective way of drawing 4 lines in an iPhone app?

    basic question, but I'm unsure. Not looking for code as an answer. I want to draw 4 short lines 1px lines on a view. What is the best way to approach this task? Options:- Load an image of the line, then create 4 UIImageViews with it. Create my own subclass of a UIView that draws a line in the draw rect method. Draw elsewhere on another view, another UIImageView that has an UIImage inside it (is this possible?) Another way? Thanks Ross

  • How to save data from multiple views of an iPhone app?

    Hi Everyone. I'm making an app where I need to save the text in multiple views in the app when the app quits. I also need to be able to remove all of the data from just one of those views and when the app quits, it's possible not all of those views will have been created yet. After reading this post I thought perhaps it would be good to use a singleton that manages my app data which loads in the data when it is first requested and saved it when the app quits. Then in each view where I need to save data I can just set it on the singleton. I gave it a go but have run into some issues. At first I didn't synthesize the properties (as in the post I was using as a guide) but the compiler told me I needed to make getters and setters, so I did. Now when my applicationWIllTerminate: gets call the app crashes and the console says "Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. kill quit".   • iPhone Internationalization. What is the simplest workflow for me?

    Hello, I am wising up and getting my internationalization act together. Right off the bat I am a bit swamped by all the docs Apple provides so I was wondering of someone could sketch a workflow for my situation. Before I begin, I browsed some Apple example code and noticed this NIB file - MainWindow.xib - in the Resources folder: This clearly has something to do with internationalization/localization. Could someone please explain how this is created and where in the workflow it happens? My app is fundamentally an imaging app with a few labels that I currently programmatically internationalize using NSLocalizedString(...). If I set all my labels programmatically and wrap all my strings with NSLocalizedString(...) can I completely ignore the NIB issues? Thanks in advance, Doug

  • In PHP, how do I add 3 months to the purchase date retrieved from the iPhone InApp receipt?

    After I have validated the receipt against the App Store from my PHP server, the App Store sends me back a JSON response with "status" : 0 "receipt" : ( .... ) One of the receipt items is "purchase_date" which contains the following string (example) "2010-02-09 19:17:04 Etc/GMT" I'm trying to establish a subscription service and would like to add 3 months to this date and then write that expiry date into a MySQL table. Is there a string-to-date type function in PHP that can allow me to achieve the adding of 3 months? I have found this example which looks like it adds 1 month to a date: $date = date("Y-m-d");// current date $date = strtotime(date("Y-m-d", strtotime($date)) . " +1 month"); But I'm not sure how I can turn the string passed by the App Store into a PHP recognised date.

  • iPhone - Get a pointer to the data behind CGDataProvider?

    I'm trying to take a CGImage and copy its data into a buffer for later processing. The code below is what I have so far, but there's one thing I don't like about it - it's copying the image data twice. Once for CGDataProviderCopyData() and once for the :getBytes:length call on imgData. I haven't been able to find a way to copy the image data directly into my buffer and cut out the CGDataProviderCopyData() step, but there has to be a way...any pointers?   • iPhone - UIView Animation on UIButton - button unclickable for portion of duration.

    I am trying to have a button move around the screen and still be clickable. I have it moving around the screen correctly, but the odd thing is that I can't click the button until the final second of the animation. The button is still moving and yet after a certain threshold I can click it. Any idea what is happening? Any idea for some other way I can do what I want? Thanks for any help.

  • iPhone - Memory Management - Using Leaks tool and getting some bizarre readings.

    Hey all, putting the finishing touches on a project of mine so I figured I would run through it and see if and where I had any memory leaks. Found and fixed most of them but there are a couple of things regarding the memory leaks and object alloc that I am confused about. 1) There are 2 memory leaks that do not show me as responsible. There are 8 leaks attributed to AudioToolbox with the function being RegisterEmbeddedAudioCodecs(). This accounts for about 1.5 kb of leaks. The other one is detected immediately when the app begins. Core Graphics is responsible with the extra info being open_handle_to_dylib_path. For the audio leak I have looked over my audio code and to me it seems ok. self.musicPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:songFilePath] error:NULL]; [musicPlayer prepareToPlay]; [musicPlayer play] is called later on in a function. 2) Is it normal for there to be a spike in Object Allocation whenever a new view or controller is presented? My total memory usage is very, very low except for whenever I present a view controller. It spikes then immediately goes back down. I am guessing that this is just the phone handling all the information for switching or something. Blegh. Wall of text. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps! =)

  • NetworkActivityIndicator not working the same on iPhone and Simulator?

    I am using the NetworkActivityIndicator to show that my App is doing some work. When I run the app in the simulator, it shows the way I want - basically spinning the entire time until the selected tab loads the data from the server - but when I put the app onto my phone, I only get a split-second of the spinner before it disappears. Usually only spins right before the view appears on the screen. Ideas?

  • iPhone OS: Is there a way to set up KVO between two ManagedObject Entities?

    I have 2 entities I want to link with KVO, one a single statTracker class that keeps track of different stats and the other an achievement class that contains information about achievements. Ideally what I want to be able to do is set up KVO by having an instance of the achievement class observe a value on the statTracker class and also set up a threshold value at which the achievement instance should be "triggered"(triggering in this case would mean showing a UIAlertView and changing a property on the achievement class.)   • iPhone+Quartz+OpenGL. What is the correct way for Quartz and OpenGL to play nice together regarding

    So we know the CoreGraphics/Quartz imaging model is based on pre-multiplied alpha. We also know that OpenGL blending is based on un-premultiplied alpha. What is the best practice to avoid head explosion when doing blending with textures that are derived from pre-multiplied alpha imagery (PNG files generated in Photoshop with pre-multiplied alpha). Given the apples/oranges mish mash of Quartz and OpenGL, what is the correct glBlendFunc for doing the fundamental Porter/Duff "over" operation? Typical example: A simple paint program. Brush shapes are texture-map patterns created from pre-multiplied alpha rgba images. Paint color is specified via glColor4(...) with the alpha channel used to control paint transparency. GL_MODULATE is used so the brush texture multiplies the (translucent) paint color to blend the color into the canvas. Problem: The texture is premult. The color is not. What is the correct way to handle this fundamental inconsistency? Thanks, Doug
