  • Using JSON Data to Populate a Google Map with Database Objects

    I'm revising this question after reading the resources mentioned in the original answers and working through implementing it. I'm using the google maps api to integrate a map into my Rails site. I have a markets model with the following columns: ID, name, address, lat, lng. On my markets/index view, I want to populate a map with all the markets in my markets table. I'm trying to output @markets as json data, and that's where I'm running into problems. I have the basic map displaying, but right now it's just a blank map. I'm following the tutorials very closely, but I can't get the markers to generate dynamically from the json. Any help is much appreciated!   • Insert multiple line breaks into a JavaScript string (regex) (CodeMirror)

    I have a few strings and I would like to insert some line breaks into them at certain points. I figured out a few of the logistics but as a whole I can't seem to crack this problem, probably because I have limited experience with regex. Basically I have a long string of XML tags that is all on one line. I want to add line breaks at certain points to get the data more formatted and looking nice. I am using CodeMirror to display this data on a webpage but for some reason its all on line #1. So I need to go from something like this: <Sample><Name></Name><PhoneNumber><AreaCode></AreaCode><Number></Number></PhoneNumber></Sample> To something like this: <Sample> <Name></Name> <PhoneNumber> <AreaCode></AreaCode> <Number></Number> </PhoneNumber> </Sample> CodeMirror will take care of the rest of the formatting all I need to do is insert the line breaks in the right spot using regex or a loop of some sort. The Tags will or can change so I am guessing regex has to be used. I have had success inserting line breaks with \n and &#xD but can't seem to get regex to detect the proper locations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. UPDATE I overlooked this but the brackets are in fact being sent as < and > So example tag would look like: &lt;PhoneNumber&gt; or &lt;/PhoneNumber&gt; So basically need to insert a \n after every &gt; that is a closing tag or a beginning tag that contains children tags.

  • How can I simply change the Timezone Offset with Zend_Date?

    I'm using Zend_Date to manage dates/times in a scheduling app. The only way I'm able to determine the user's Timezone is via Javascript which only gives a Timezone Offset. Zend_Date only seems to take Timezones in the 'America/New_York' format. Is there a way to get the users timezone in this format or set the Timezone Offset with Zend_Date? Thanks!

  • How to get rid of the GUI access from shared library.

    Hello, In my project i have a shared library with cross-platform code that provides a very convenient abstraction for a number of its clients. To be more specific, this library provides data access to encrypted files generated by main application on a number of platforms. There is a great deal of complicated code there that implements cryptographic protocols and as such is very error-prone and should be shared as much as possible across clients and platforms. However parsing all this encrypted stuff requires asking user for a number of different secrets ones in a while. The secret can be either a password, a number of shared passwords or a public key file and this list is a hot target for extension in the future. I can't really ask the user for any of those secrets beforehand from main application, because i really don't know what i need to ask for until i start working with the encrypted data directly in the library code. So i will have to create dialogs and call them from the library code. However i really see this as a bad idea, because (among other things) there is a possibility of a windows service using it and services can't have GUI access. The question is, are there any known ways or patterns to get rid of the GUI calls that are suitable for my case? Thank you.

  • How do I add ROW_NUMBER to a LINQ query or Entity?

    I'm stumped by this easy data problem. I'm using the Entity framework and have a database of products. My results page returns a paginated list of these products. Right now my results are ordered by the number of sales of each product, so my code looks like this: return Products.OrderByDescending(u => u.Sales.Count()); This returns an IQueryable dataset of my entities, sorted by the number of sales. I want my results page to show the rank of each product (in the dataset). My results should look like this: Page #1 1. Bananas 2. Apples 3. Coffee Page #2 4. Cookies 5. Ice Cream 6. Lettuce I'm expecting that I just want to add a column in my results using the SQL ROW_NUMBER variable...but I don't know how to add this column to my results datatable. My resulting page does contain a foreach loop, but since I'm using a paginated set I'm guessing using that number to fake a ranking number would NOT be the best approach. So my question is, how do I add a ROW_NUMBER column to my query results in this case?

  • Only last row in method execute (Objective-C)

    First I want to apologize for my lack of knowledge in programming in general. I am in the way of learning and have discovered that this site is a huge compliment for me of doing so. I have created a program with three UITextField(thePlace,theVerb,theOutput) and two UITextView where one of the textviews(theOutput) take the text from the other textview(theTemplate) and replaces some strings with the text entered in the textfields. When I click a button it triggers the method createStory that is listed below. This works fine with one exception. The text in the output only changes the string 'number' to the text in the textfield. However if I change the order in the method to replace 'place','number','verb' only the verb is changed, not the number. Im sure this is some sort of easy fix but I can't find it.   • Reliable and fast way to convert a zillion ODT files in PDF?

    I need to pre-produce a million or two PDF files from a simple template (a few pages and tables) with embedded fonts. Usually, I would stay low level in a case like this, and compose everything with a library like ReportLab, but I joined late in the project. Currently, I have a template.odt and use markers in the content.xml files to fill with data from a DB. I can smoothly create the ODT files, they always look rigth. For the ODT to PDF conversion, I'm using openoffice in server mode (and PyODConverter w/ named pipe), but it's not very reliable: in a batch of documents, there is eventually a point after which all the processed files are converted into garbage (wrong fonts and letters sprawled all over the page). Problem is not predictably reproducible (does not depend on the data), happens in OOo 2.3 and 3.2, in Ubuntu, XP, Server 2003 and Windows 7. My Heisenbug detector is ticking. I tried to reduce the size of batches and restarting OOo after each one; still, a small percentage of the documents are messed up. Of course I'll write about this on the Ooo mailing lists, but in the meanwhile, I have a delivery and lost too much time already. Where do I go? Completely avoid the ODT format and go for another template system. Suggestions? Anything that takes a few seconds to run is way too slow. OOo takes around a second and it sums to 15 days of processing time. I had to write a program for clustering the jobs over several clients. Keep the format but go for another tool/program for the conversion. Which one? There are many apps in the shareware or commercial repositories for windows, but trying each one is a daunting task. Some are too slow, some cannot be run in batch without buying it first, some cannot work from command line, etc. Open source tools tend not to reinvent the wheel and often depend on openoffice. Converting to an intermediate .DOC format could help to avoid the OOo bug, but it would double the processing time and complicate a task that is already too hairy. Try to produce the PDFs twice and compare them, discarding the whole batch if there's something wrong. Although the documents look equal, I know of no way to compare the binary content. Restart OOo after processing each document. it would take a lot more time to produce them it would lower the percentage of the wrong files, and make it very hard to identify them. Go for ReportLab and recreate the pages programmatically. This is the approach I'm going to try in a few minutes. Learn to properly format bulleted lists Thanks a lot.

  • NSFetchedResultsController is driving me crazy

    Hi everyone. i've been building an app since 1 month using NSFetchedResultsController and i was testing the app on the 3.1.2 SDK. The poblem is that i've been using NSFetchedResultsController everywhere in my app and was working on the 3.1.2 version of the SDK, now my client say that i should make it compatible with the 3.0 version and the deadline is almost there. But is crashing everytime i change an object handled by the contoller, the application is crashing with very weird errors. The problem occure when removing the last object in a section and when a change make an object love to another section. I've been using a sample code from "More iPhone 3 Development Tackling iPhone SDK 3" by Dave Mark and Jeff LaMarche.     I have a script that lets the user upload text files (PDF or doc) to the server, then the plan is to convert them to raw text. But until the file is converted, it's in its raw format, which makes me worried about viruses and all kinds of nasty things. Any ideas what I need to do to minimize the risk of these unknown files. How to check if it's clean, or if it's even the format it claims to be and that it does not crash the server.

  • Hierarchy / Flyweight / Instancing Problem in Python

    Here is the problem I am trying to solve, (I have simplified the actual problem, but this should give you all the relevant information). I have a hierarchy like so: 1.A 1.B 1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.F (This is hard to illustrate - each number is the parent, each letter is the child). Creating an instance of the 'letter' objects is expensive (IO, database costs, etc), so should only be done once. The hierarchy needs to be easy to navigate. Children in the hierarchy need to have just one parent. Modifying the contents of the letter objects should be possible directly from the objects in the hierarchy. There needs to be a central store containing all of the 'letter' objects (and only those in the hierarchy). 'letter' and 'number' objects need to be possible to create from a constructor (such as Letter(**kwargs) ). It is perfectably acceptable to expect that when a letter changes from the hierarchy, all other letters will respect the same change. Hope this isn't too abstract to illustrate the problem. What would be the best way of solving this?
