• Can't install ruby-debug-ide on Windows 7

  I'm running netbeans 6.8 on windows 7 pro (x64) with the bitnami stack and I'm using ruby 1.8.7-p72. Note: I can't change the version of ruby I am using because I am working with a team, this is a college project and we have only 3 weeks left before we have to hand it in. Changing the version of ruby at this time would be too much work I think. I can't debug my code with the IDE. It says I must have the fast-debugger installed but I cannot install it. When I try through the gui I get the following message: Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing ruby-debug-ide: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. "C:/Program Files/BitNami RubyStack/ruby/bin/ruby.exe" mkrf_conf.rb Building native extensions. This could take a while... Gem files will remain installed in C:/Program Files/BitNami RubyStack/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-debug-ide-0.4.8 for inspection. Results logged to C:/Program Files/BitNami RubyStack/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ruby-debug-ide-0.4.8/ext/gem_make.out I have tracked the problem down to a gcc not being installed... I have installed cygwin but I'm not sure what I am doing and it's still not working... Anyone know how to fix this problem? (BTW- I have already done a lot of googling on this)

• Eclipse Helios - Not Stopping at Breakpoints (Help!)

  Dear Eclipse Expert, I recently upgraded from Eclipse Galileo to Helios. Helios stops at breakpoints ONLY when debugging "as a PHP Script", but not when debugging "as a Web Page". When debugging as a web page, it looks like the correct debug query string to start a debug session is getting tacked on to the url, like so: http://localhost/hello.php?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP &KEY=129798139020511 but elipse does not stop at the breakpoints. It just zooms thru the code and displays the output in the browser. • Preserving case in HTTP headers with Ruby's Net:HTTP

  Although the HTTP spec says that headers are case insensitive; Paypal, with their new adaptive payments API require their headers to be case-sensitive. Using the paypal adaptive payments extension for ActiveMerchant (http://github.com/lamp/paypal_adaptive_gateway) it seems that although the headers are set in all caps, they are sent in mixed case. • ASP.NET MVC Html Helper Extensions and Rendering Their Required "include"s

The questions are as follows: Is there a serious processing overhead if I were to include these items in EVERY page (like in the Site.Master for example) thus negating the need for the HtmlHelper to organise the "includes" - considering there would end up being about 20 includes for all the different types of jQuery UI widgets used throughout the site. If the HtmlHelper sorts out the "includes", it will add one every time this DatePicker is used (often there are two on a page) Does anyone have a way of determining whether or not the user has already rendered the same type of control on the page, thus not re-including the same jquery libraries when multiple instances of the DatePicker (for example) are used?

  Hi! I have a OdbcDataReader that gets data from a database and returns a set of records. The code that executes the query looks as follows: OdbcDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { yield return reader.AsMovexProduct(); } The method returns an IEnumerable of a custom type (MovexProduct). WinDBG 6.12.0002.633 X86 ADPlus Engine Version: 7.01.002 02/27/2009 Maybe someone has a working example of config of debugging .NET app with latest adplus.exe?

• Installing python-mysql with wamp's mysql

  Hello, (I'm not sure if this should be asked here or SU.. but seeing this question on SO, I am asking it here...) I have wamp (mysql-5.1.33) server setup on my vista machine, and I am trying to install python-mysql 1.2.3c1 to use the mysql version provided by wamp. At first, when I ran python setup.py install, I got an error saying it couldn't find the location of the mysql's bin folder. Looking into setup_windows.py, I noticed it was looking for a registry key and so I added that registry entry and I think it is able to find it now. But now, when I run python setup.py install, I get a different error saying Unable to find vcvarsall.bat. Any help on installing this appreciated. • Suggestions for doing async I/O with Task Parallel Library

  I have some high performance file transfer code which I wrote in C# using the Async Programming Model (APM) idiom (eg, BeginRead/EndRead). This code reads a file from a local disk and writes it to a socket. For best performance on modern hardware, it's important to keep more than one outstanding I/O operation in flight whenever possible. Thus, I post several BeginRead operations on the file, then when one completes, I call a BeginSend on the socket, and when that completes I do another BeginRead on the file. The details are a bit more complicated than that but at the high level that's the idea. I've got the APM-based code working, but it's very hard to follow and probably has subtle concurrency bugs. I'd love to use TPL for this instead. I figured Task.Factory.FromAsync would just about do it, but there's a catch. All of the I/O samples I've seen (most particularly the StreamExtensions class in the Parallel Extensions Extras) assume one read followed by one write. This won't perform the way I need. I can't use something simple like Parallel.ForEach or the Extras extension Task.Factory.Iterate because the async I/O tasks don't spend much time on a worker thread, so Parallel just starts up another task, resulting in potentially dozens or hundreds of pending I/O operations; way too much! You can work around that by Waiting on your tasks, but that causes creation of an event handle (a kernel object), and a blocking wait on a task wait handle, which ties up a worker thread. My APM-based implementation avoids both of those things. I've been playing around with different ways to keep multiple read/write operations in flight, and I've managed to do so using continuations that call a method that creates another task, but it feels awkward, and definitely doesn't feel like idiomatic TPL. Has anyone else grappled with an issue like this with the TPL? Any suggestions?

Ninject.dll - v2.0.0.0 Ninject.Extensions.Logging.dll v2.0.0.0 Ninject.Web.dll v1.0.0.0 In my global.ascx.cs I have following method. protected override IKernel CreateKernel() { IKernel kernel = new StandardKernel(); kernel.Bind<IDataAccess>().To<DataAccessEntBlock>().InSingletonScope(); return kernel; } When I run the application I get following error. Error activating ILoggerFactory No matching bindings are available, and the type is not self-bindable. Activation path: 1) Request for ILoggerFactory Suggestions: 1) Ensure that you have defined a binding for ILoggerFactory. 2) If the binding was defined in a module, ensure that the module has been loaded into the kernel. 3) Ensure you have not accidentally created more than one kernel. 4) If you are using automatic module loading, ensure the search path and filters are correct. I am not understanding even though I am not trying to register Logger, it seems it is trying to create it's own. How can I resolve this error ? Do I have to use any of the Ninject's extension Logger ? Thanks GK

This is because the implementation (on my machine) to the Average extension method, as inspected by .NET Reflector is: public static double Average(this IEnumerable<long> source) { if (source == null) { throw Error.ArgumentNull("source"); } long num = 0L; long num2 = 0L; foreach (long num3 in source) { num += num3; num2 += 1L; } if (num2 <= 0L) { throw Error.NoElements(); } return (((double) num) / ((double) num2)); } I know I can use a BigInt library (yes, I know that it is included in .NET Framework 4.0, but I'm tied to 3.5). • Insert some data at later point once serialization(binary serialization) is done for a class

  My application is written in C# and I am a newbie to C#. I am facing with a problem during serialization. The problem is as follows. There are many classes in my project and when serialization is called on one of the main class object it serializes itself and during this process many of the member objects are also get serialized. This whole serialization is done in to a file with extension say ".bin". This bin file size should be of size max 20MB. In this process of serialization one of my other class also gets serialized to a stream, this class is having a big array. The size of this array or list can be of 80 MB or more. So during serialization i have serialize all the objects other than this array and depending upon the size left in the 20MB I need to add in between the serialization the number of array elements which can fit in the remaining memory. For the other array elements left out I have to create a similar kind of .bin file with all the objects serialized and in between need to insert the number of array elements that can fit there. The main problem here is the array elements get inserted at runtime and this list keeps on increasing. So i should be creating .bin files continuously until my application runs. Any ideas how can i implement a solution for this problem? Thanks in Advance.

• What's slowing for loops/assignment vs. C?

  I have a collection of PHP scripts that are extremely CPU intensive, juggling millions of calculations across hundreds of simultaneous users. I'm trying to find a way to speed up the internals of PHP variable assignment, and looping sequences vs C. Although PHP is obviously loosely typed, is there any way/extension to specifically assign type (assign, not cast, which seems even more expensive) in a C-style fashion? Here's what I mean. This is some dummy code in C: #include <stdio.h> int main() { unsigned long add=0; for(unsigned long x=0;x<100000000;x++) { add = x*59328409238; } printf("x is %ld\n",add); } Pretty self-explanatory -- it loops 100 million times, multiples each iteration by an arbitrary number of some 59 billion, assigns it to a variable and prints it out. On my Macbook, compiling it and running it produced: lees-macbook-pro:Desktop lee$ time ./test2 x is 5932840864471590762 real 0m0.266s user 0m0.253s sys 0m0.002s Pretty darn fast!   I have no experience compiling code other than using Visual Studio's Build command. I am hoping we can create a step by step guide for compiling mod_python on windows. Please be as descriptive as possible. This is what I've done so far: Download and install python 2.6.2 Download and install apache 2.2.11 Download the most recent source code for mod_python from svn From here I'm lost to what the next step is. • Creating an Ajax.ActionLink that avoids all caching issues

  I am using an Ajax.ActionLink to display a partial view that shows a settings dialog (the modality of which is arranged using jQuery UI dialog). The issue I am running into is around browser caching. It is important that the user is never shown a cached settings dialog. In an attempt to achieve this I have written the following extension method that has the same method signature as the ActionLink method overload that I am using. /// <summary> /// Defines an AJAX ActionLink that effectively bypasses browser caching issues /// by adding an additional route value that contains a unique (actually DateTime.Now.Ticks) value. /// </summary> public static MvcHtmlString NonCachingActionLink(this AjaxHelper helper, string linkText, string actionName, string controllerName, System.Web.Routing.RouteValueDictionary routeValues, AjaxOptions ajaxOptions) { routeValues.Add("rnd", DateTime.Now.Ticks); return helper.ActionLink(linkText, actionName, controllerName, routeValues, ajaxOptions); } This works well between browser sessions (as the rnd route value gets re-calculated on page load), but not if the user is on the page, makes settings changes, saves them (which is done with another ajax call) and then re-displays the settings dialog. My next step is to look into creating my own ActionLink equivalent that re-calculates a random query string component as part of the onclick JavaScript event handler. Thoughts please.

• C# rounding DateTime objects

  I want to round dates/times to the nearest interval for a charting application. I'd like an extension method signature like follows so that the rounding can be acheived for any level of accuracy: static DateTime Round(this DateTime date, TimeSpan span); The idea is that if I pass in a timespan of ten minutes, it will round to the nearest ten minute interval. I can't get my head around the implementation and am hoping one of you will have written or used something similar before. I think either a floor, ceiling or nearest implementation is fine. Any ideas?   Background: I am working on a file upload page that will extend an existing web portal. This page will allow for an end user to upload files from there local computer to our network (the files will not be stored on the web server, rather a remote workstation). The end user will have the ability to view the data that they have submitted by hyper-linking the files that have been uploaded on this page. Question 1: Is there an ASP.net alternative to the <input type="file" runat="server" /> HTML tag? The reason for asking is i would rather use an image button and display the file as an asp label on the portal to keep with a consistent style. Question 2: So i understand that giving the end user the ability to upload files to the server and then turn around to show them the data that they posted poses a security threat. So far i am using the id.PostedFile.ContentType and the file extension to reject the data if its not an accepted format (i.e. "text/plain", "application/pdf", "application/vnd.ms-excel", or "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet"). Also the location where the files are uploaded to has a sufficient amount of virus and malware protection and this is not a concern. What, from the C# point of view, additional steps should i take to ensure that the end user cant take advantage and compromise the system in regards to allowing them to upload files?

• zend gdata google base getting link url and parsing xml with object oriented php

  Hi, So I am using Zend frameworks Gdata extension to parse xml data from google base. http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.gdata.gbase.html Working fine minus one damn important thing I cant seem to parse, the link to the actual page, because there are two elements and its returned as an array. Anyways Ive tried vardumping the array but what comes out didnt help me figure out what was going on any better. So heres the specifics of the issue. echo $entry->title->text."<br />".$entry->id->text."<br />".$entry->content->text."<br />".$entry->author[0]->name."<br />"; (the above code works fine). Now according to the documentation I thought I could get the link href by going $entry-link-text or $entry-link-url (tried both, neither worked). Anyways, Im not sure whether this is zend specific or just a gap in my OOP understanding, but any help would be much appreciated!

  I keep getting an error when trying to install the geoip_city gem. I've already installed the GeoIP C library to /opt/GeoIP, but the gem doesn't seem to pick it up. • How to catch an expected (and intended) 302 response code with generic XmlHttpRequest?

  So, if you look back at my previous question about Exchange Autodiscover, you'll see that the easiet way to get the autodiscover URL is to send a non-secure, non-authenticated GET request to the server, ala: http://autodiscover.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml The server will respond with a 302 redirect with the correct url in the Location header. I'm trying out something really simple at first with a Chrome extension, where I have: if (req.readyState==4 && req.status==302) { return req.getResponseHeader("Location"); } With another ajax call set up with the full XML Post and the user credentials, But instead Chrome hangs at this point, and a look at the developer panel shows that it is not returning back the response but instead is acting like no response was given, meanwhile showing a Uncaught Error: NETWORK_ERR: XMLHttpRequest Exception 101 in the error log. The way I see it, refering to the exact response status is about the same as "catching" it, but I'm not sure if the problem is with Chrome/WebKit or if this is how XHR requests always handle redirects. I'm not sure how to catch this so that I can get still get the headers from the response. Or would it be possible to set up a secondary XHR such that when it gets the 302, it sends a totally different request? Quick Update I just changed it so that it doesn't check the response code: if (req.readyState==4) { return req.getResponseHeader("Location"); } and instead when I alert out the value it's null. and there is still the same error and no response in the dev console. SO it seems like it either doesn't track 302 responses as responses, or something happens after that wipes that response out?

  Hi all, I'm developing an API with many identically named methods that just differ by signature, which I guess is fairly common. They all do the same thing, except that they initialize various values by defaults if the user does not want to specify. As a digestible example, consider public interface Forest { public Tree addTree(); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, Fruit fruitType); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, int height); public Tree addTree(int amountOfLeaves, Fruit fruitType, int height); } The essential action performed by all of these methods is the same; a tree is planted in the forest. Many important things users of my API need to know about adding trees hold for all these methods. Ideally, I would like to write one Javadoc block that is used by all methods: /** * Plants a new tree in the forest. Please note that it may take * up to 30 years for the tree to be fully grown. * * @param amountOfLeaves desired amount of leaves. Actual amount of * leaves at maturity may differ by up to 10%. * @param fruitType the desired type of fruit to be grown. No warranties * are given with respect to flavour. * @param height desired hight in centimeters. Actual hight may differ by * up to 15%. */ In my imagination, a tool could magically choose which of the @params apply to each of the methods, and thus generate good docs for all methods at once. With Javadoc, if I understand it correctly, all I can do is essentially copy&paste the same javadoc block five times, with only a slightly differing parameter list for each method. This sounds cumbersome to me, and is also difficult to maintain. Is there any way around that? Some extension to javadoc that has this kind of support? Or is there a good reason why this is not supported that I missed?

• PHP extensions won't load on Apache startup

  I've added php as a module for Apache 2.2.11: LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" And also added AddType application/x-httpd-php .php And in PHP.ini, my extension dir is set to: extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" And yes, the directories are correct and all files do exist.   Hello, I am integrating SqlCacheDependency to use in my LinqToSQL datacontext. I am using an extension class for Linq querys found here - http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/linqtosqlcache I have wired up the code and when I open the page I get this exception - "The SQL Server Service Broker for the current database is not enabled, and as a result query notifications are not supported. Please enable the Service Broker for this database if you wish to use notifications." its coming from this event in the global.asax protected void Application_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); //In Application Start Event System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDependency.Start(new dataContextDataContext().Connection.ConnectionString); } my question is... how do i enable Service Broker in my SQL server 2008 database? I have tried to run this query.. ALTER DATABASE tablename SET ENABLE_BROKER but it never ends and runs for ever, I have to manually stop it. once I have this set in SQL server 2008, will it filter down to my DataContext, or do I need to configure something there too ? thanks for any help Truegilly

• Custumizing Syntax Highlighting in Vim

  Hey I have defined a few custom file types for vim. I have done this like this: In vimrc: au BufWinEnter,BufRead,BufNewFile *.jak set filetype=jak And then in jak.vim syn match arrows /<-/ syn match arrows /->/ syn match arrows /=>/ syn match arrows /<=/ highlight arrows ctermfg=brown ... This works. (Formatting applies to any file opened with vim with file extension .jak) My question is how I can keep all the current formatting for a file type but add functionality. For example I would like to add this functionality for .vim files: syn keyword yellow yellow highlight yellow ctermfg=yellow ... (so that I can see how my terminal interpenetrates different colors before choosing them.) I have created ~/.vim/syntax/vim.vim (file only contains the above) and put this into my vimrc: au BufWinEnter,BufRead,BufNewFile *.vim set filetype=vim This has no effect. The word yellow is not colored yellow. I have also tried putting my vim.vim file into ~/.vim/after/syntax/vim.vim As suggested here This is the approach that I would like to take. Seems clean and easily maintainable.
