  • Easier debugging stl array

    In MSVC++ I have a vector. Whenever you go out of bounds of the vector (in debug mode, launched as "Start Debugging"), when you step out of bounds of the vector the program halts with a dialog box: Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library ==== Debug Assertion Failed! Expression: Vector subscript out of range Abort | Retry | Ignore So what I want though is the MSVC++ debugger within visual studio to STOP AT THE LINE WHERE THE OUT OF BOUNDS OCCURRED, not give me this dialog box. How can I cause the program to "break" properly and be able to step through code /inspect variables when an out of bounds occurs on an STL vector?

  • How to return DropDownList selections dynamically in ASP.NET?

    This is probably a simple question but I am developing a web app in C# with DropDownList. Currently it is working for just one DropDownList. But now that I modified the code so that number of DropDownLists that should appear is dynamic, it gives me error; "The name 'ddl' does not exist in the current context." The reason for this error is that there a multiple instances of 'ddl' = number of counters. So how do I instead return more than one 'ddl'? Like what return type should this method have instead? And how do I return these values?   • ASP.NET - Missing #includes cause compilation errors: Failed to map the path '...'

    I have an ASP.NET application which features some server-side includes. For example: <!--#include virtual="/scripts.inc" --> These files are not present in my ASP.NET website project because my website starts in a virtual directory: /path-to-my-application When I choose Build Web Site, I get this error: Failed to map the path '/scripts.inc' Visual Studio cannot resolve these include files that are defined at the root directory level. They are not visible in the website project. Aside from manually commenting out the #include references, is there any way I can get the website to build? Can I force Visual Studio to ignore those errors and compile the site? Once the website is pushed out to IIS, there is no problem, because all the #include files are in place. NOTE - Web Controls are not an option for this application. Please assume #include files are a requirement. Also, I cannot move the include files since they are used by other applications.

    Setting up SSRS. For Service Account, I set a domain account as the Report Server Service Account. click apply SQL Server Connection Dialog pops up. Need to specify an account with admin privileges. set Credentials Type = SQL Server Account I use sa account (which works, verified many ways with sql server management studio) I fails with the following: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service ReportServer on computer 'DEVDB5'. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not start due to a logon failure --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.Start(String[] args) at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.Start() at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.WindowsServiceIdentityPanel.StartWindowsServicePostChangeWindowsServiceIdentity(ServiceController rsService) What am I doing wrong. btw: it was working fine as of yesterday.     I have a fairly complex query that looks something like this: create table Items(SomeOtherTableID int,SomeField int) create table SomeOtherTable(Id int,GroupID int) with cte1 as ( select SomeOtherTableID,COUNT(*) SubItemCount from Items t where t.SomeField is not null group by SomeOtherTableID ),cte2 as ( select tc.SomeOtherTableID,ROW_NUMBER() over (partition by a.GroupID order by tc.SubItemCount desc) SubItemRank from Items t inner join SomeOtherTable a on a.Id=t.SomeOtherTableID inner join cte1 tc on tc.SomeOtherTableID=t.SomeOtherTableID where t.SomeField is not null ),cte3 as ( select SomeOtherTableID from cte2 where SubItemRank=1 ) select * from cte3 t1 inner join cte3 t2 on t1.SomeOtherTableID<t2.SomeOtherTableID option (maxdop 1) The query is such that cte3 is filled with 6222 distinct results. In the final select, I am performing a cross join on cte3 with itself, (so that I can compare every value in the table with every other value in the table at a later point). Notice the final line : option (maxdop 1) Apparently, this switches off parallelism. So, with 6222 results rows in cte3, I would expect (6222*6221)/2, or 19353531 results in the subsequent cross joining select, and with the final maxdop line in place, that is indeed the case. However, when I remove the maxdop line, the number of results jumps to 19380454. I have 4 cores on my dev box. WTF? Can anyone explain why this is? Do I need to reconsider previous queries that cross join in this way?

  • Web Site in solution where "Rebuild Solution" compile succeeds cannot launch debugger

    I have a solution that includes a Web Site (created using the web site template not the web app project template - converting isn't an option, btw). When I rebuild all, the compile succeeds, but strangely displays 3 errors, all of which are "Could not get dependencies for project reference 'PROJNAME'". When I try to launch the debugger, I get the "There were build errors." dialogue. Two questions: If I choose the 'Yes' option in the debug error dialogue to run the last successful build, will it run on the code that my Rebuild All just compiled? How do I resolve this issue? I checked this post and am disheartened by my prospects. What is strange, though, is that I added these same projects to a separate web site solution that compiled/debugged fine, removed the test web site and re-added the target website I would like to debug, and it failed in the same manner.     Parser: The query contains the XXXXXName parameter, which is not declared. (msmgdsrv) I have no idea why I keep getting this error. It occurs when I change the MDX in the query designer and trying OKing out of the query designer. The strange thing is that the parameter DOES exist, I can see it in the parameters section of the dataset dialog. I am creating it before I do anything else with the query.

  • How can I export images from MS SQL Server to a file on disk?

    I have a User table that has all of their avatars saved in an image field. I'd like to just take that out of the database and store it as a regular file on disk. I looked around and saw some code for textcopy, but that doesn't seem to be on my machine for some reason. Here is the code I wrote up anyway. Anyone know a way to get this done? So if one then of course it goes to case 1. If there are 2 opened then it moves the oldest down and puts the newest on top. etc etc. I have set it so that a max of 6 boxes can only be opened at one time.   • Project References DLL version hell

    We're having problems getting visual studio to pick up the latest version of a DLL from one of our projects. We have multiple class library projects (e.g. BusinessLogic, ReportData) and a number of web services, each has a reference to a Connectivity DLL we've written (this ref to the connectivity DLL is the problem). We always point references to the DLL in the bin/debug folder, (which is where we always build to for any given project) and all custom DLL references have CopyLocal = True and SpecificVersion = False ReportData has a reference to business logic (which also has a reference to connectivity - I don't see why this should cause a problem, but thought it is worth mentioning) The weird thing is, when you click "Add Reference" and browse to Connectivity/bin/debug - you hover the mouse over the DLL file, the correct (latest) version is shown (version and file version are always incremented together), but when you click ok, a previous version number is pulled though. Even when I look in the current projects debug folder (where copy local would put the DLL after compiling) that shows the latest version number. - NO WHERE does can I find the previous version of the DLL outside of visual studio, but in that project references it has the old version - even though the path is correct. I'm at a loss as to where it might be getting the old versions from. Or even why it wants that one. This is possibly the most frustraighting problem I have ever come across. Does anyone know how to ensure the latest version is pulled through (preferably automatically or on compile). EDIT: Although not exactly the scenario I'm dealing with I was reading this article and somewhere it mentions about CLR ignoring revision numbers. Understandable (even though this hasn't been a problem before - we're on revision 39), so I thought I would update the build number, still didn't work. In a vain attempt I though I would update the minor version number and see if that made any difference. I'm not saying this is the answer as I have to check quite a few things first, but on the face of it, this seems to have solved my problem... Further edit: In other class libraries this seems to have solved the problem, however in a test windows application it still pulls a previous version through :( If I increment the minor version number again, the same problem come back and I am left with the wrong version being pulled though. Further Edit - I created an entirly new project, added a reference and still had the exact same problem. This suggests the problem is restriced to the project I am referencing. Wish I knew why! Anyone had this problem before and know how to get around it? HELP!

Usually this was just a file not found exception. I have no idea what or why that new exception is throwing? 2) Now that a different exception is throwing on the server side instead of the file not found, it would seem I can't use this set up for the application, because back on client side, any exception is assumed to be filenotfound. Any help, especially info on why this ThreadAbortException is throwing!?!? greatly appreciated. Cheers

    I have a project I'm looking to manually manage via perforce version control as I only have the Express edition. What I'm looking for is which files should be excluded in the version control as locking many of the files can result in a problem for visual studio compiling and debugging. What I have, so far, included. .cs files (except properties folder) .resx files .csproj files Excluded bin folder obj folder Properties folder .user file Let me know if there is something more that should be included that I have excluded or if there is a better way to do this.

  • Force chart labels to remain inside frame

    RS2008 - pie chart I have 'outside' labels with lines pointing to the segment (although strangely this only appears to work in pdf output) However (see pic below) the label is appearing outside the scope of the chart area How can I force it to remain inside? (MinimumRelativePieSize is set to 70) (pic below missing due to not being able to find an image host that isn't blocked by corp firewall) Picture a pie chart of 25 slices, with radial lines that project through the sides. The line from each slice then becomes horizontal, before disappearing outside. (above actually fits tune of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds")

  • TSQL Shred XML - Working with namespaces (newbie @ shredding XML)

    Here's a link to my previous question on this same block of code with a working shred example Ok, I'm a C# ASP.NET dev following orders: The orders are to take a given dataset, shred the XML and return columns. I've argued that it's easier to do the shredding on the ASP.NET side where we already have access to things like deserializers, etc, and the entire complex of known types, but no, the boss says "shred it on the server, return a dataset, bind the dataset to the columns of the gridview" so for now, I'm doing what I was told. This is all to head off the folks who will come along and say "bad requirements".   • Status of Data in Rollback of Large Transaction in SQL Server

    I have a data warehousing procedure that downloads and replaces dozens of tables from a linked server to a local database. Every once in a while, the code will get stuck on one of the tables on the linked server because the table on the linked server is in a state of transition. I am under the assumption that since the entire procedure is considered one transaction commit, when the procedure gets stuck, none of the changes made by the procudure so far would have committed. But the opposite seems to be true, tables that were "downloaded" before the procedure got stuck would have been updated with today's versions on the local server. Shouldn't SQL Server wait for the entire procedure to finish before the changes are durable?   • How could I make this display for listbox?

    Hello everyone, I have a databound listbox which is actually displaying two columns of data. Based on some logic however, I would like to set either a line or a item in one of the columns, e.g. a fruit to red, or the line to bold. I have code to work out which Fruit or Color I would like to differentiate (by color/bold) in the code behind, but I can't figure out, especially given the custom listbox display, how I could go about setting a particular item to a different color/bold. Does anyone have any ideas? Let me know if any further code is required. Cheers.
