  • NetBeans Bundle.properties Property Naming Convention.

    - by javacavaj
    What is the recommended naming convention for properties added to the Bundle.properties file in NetBeans? Should properties added by developers be prefixed with tags similar to those of NetBeans. I've noted several in use (e.g., CTL_, HINT_, MSG_, TXT_), but no guidance on where each should be used or if they should be used only by the NetBeans team. Also, should be suffix be a keyword or the entire word/phrase being translated?

  • Detect session hang and kill it

    - by Jack Juiceson
    Hi all, I have an asp.net page that runs certain algorithm and returns it's output. I was wondering what will happen and how to handle a case where the algorithm due to a bug goes into infinite loop. It will hog the cpu and other sessions will be served very slowly. I would love to have a way to tell IIS, if processing Algo.aspx takes more than 5 seconds, kill it or something like that. Thanks in advance

  • How do I create and read non-global variables that aren't destroyed at end of function?

    - by Paul Reilly
    I am attempting to code some plugins to use with MIDI sequencers but have hit a stumbling block. I can't use global-scope variables to store information because multiple instances of the .dll can exist which share memory. How do I create a class (for re-usability purposes in other plugins) containing 2 dimensional array and other variables the content of which is to be shared between functions? If that is possible, how would I read and write the data from the function in the framework where I do the processing?

  • How to avoid truncation of text with UITableViewCellStyleValue2

    - by Regan
    I use this code to make my UITableViewCells cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleValue2 reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; If you're unfamiliar with UITableViewCellStyleValue2, the main text is shown, and then the detail text is shown after it, generally in a different color. However, when I do this, my main text is truncated, if it is longer than a short word. I want to force it to not truncate the main text and show the entire main text, and then the detail text after it. How can I do that?

  • How can I store large amount of data from a database to XML (speed problem, part three)?

    - by Andrija
    After getting some responses, the current situation is that I'm using this tip: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-tipbigdoc5.html (Listing 1. Turning ResultSets into XML), and XMLWriter for Java from http://www.megginson.com/downloads/ . Basically, it reads date from the database and writes them to a file as characters, using column names to create opening and closing tags. While doing so, I need to make two changes to the input stream, namely to the dates and numbers. // Iterate over the set while (rs.next()) { w.startElement("row"); for (int i = 0; i < count; i++) { Object ob = rs.getObject(i + 1); if (rs.wasNull()) { ob = null; } String colName = meta.getColumnLabel(i + 1); if (ob != null ) { if (ob instanceof Timestamp) { w.dataElement(colName, Util.formatDate((Timestamp)ob, dateFormat)); } else if (ob instanceof BigDecimal){ w.dataElement(colName, Util.transformToHTML(new Integer(((BigDecimal)ob).intValue()))); } else { w.dataElement(colName, ob.toString()); } } else { w.emptyElement(colName); } } w.endElement("row"); } The SQL that gets the results has the to_number command (e.g. to_number(sif.ID) ID ) and the to_date command (e.g. TO_DATE (sif.datum_do, 'DD.MM.RRRR') datum_do). The problems are that the returning date is a timestamp, meaning I don't get 14.02.2010 but rather 14.02.2010 00:00:000 so I have to format it to the dd.mm.yyyy format. The second problem are the numbers; for some reason, they are in database as varchar2 and can have leading zeroes that need to be stripped; I'm guessing I could do that in my SQL with the trim function so the Util.transformToHTML is unnecessary (for clarification, here's the method): public static String transformToHTML(Integer number) { String result = ""; try { result = number.toString(); } catch (Exception e) {} return result; } What I'd like to know is a) Can I get the date in the format I want and skip additional processing thus shortening the processing time? b) Is there a better way to do this? We're talking about XML files that are in the 50 MB - 250 MB filesize category.

  • understanding a Build c++

    - by numerical25
    I think I know what a build is. But I am not sure. My definition of a build is another word for saying compiled application. Can someone please tell me what exactly a build is. And why do people ask for 2 types of builds. Such as Debug Build, Profile Build and a Release Build. What are the differences.

  • Is ctrl-s save universal for save or are there different combinations for different languages

    - by aepheus
    I imagine that there are different combination, just looking for an affirmation. Or, are we developers really that english-centric? If I were in japan, using a word processor on some computer, would ctrl-s save? Are there keyboards where ctrl-s doesn't even exist (non-english keyboards)? Most of what I've seen usually has latin + [insert language here] characters, usually overridden on the normal qwerty keyboard.

  • synchronized in java - Proper use

    - by ZoharYosef
    I'm building a simple program to use in multi processes (Threads). My question is more to understand - when I have to use a reserved word synchronized? Do I need to use this word in any method that affects the bone variables? I know I can put it on any method that is not static, but I want to understand more. thank you! here is the code: public class Container { // *** data members *** public static final int INIT_SIZE=10; // the first (init) size of the set. public static final int RESCALE=10; // the re-scale factor of this set. private int _sp=0; public Object[] _data; /************ Constructors ************/ public Container(){ _sp=0; _data = new Object[INIT_SIZE]; } public Container(Container other) { // copy constructor this(); for(int i=0;i<other.size();i++) this.add(other.at(i)); } /** return true is this collection is empty, else return false. */ public synchronized boolean isEmpty() {return _sp==0;} /** add an Object to this set */ public synchronized void add (Object p){ if (_sp==_data.length) rescale(RESCALE); _data[_sp] = p; // shellow copy semantic. _sp++; } /** returns the actual amount of Objects contained in this collection */ public synchronized int size() {return _sp;} /** returns true if this container contains an element which is equals to ob */ public synchronized boolean isMember(Object ob) { return get(ob)!=-1; } /** return the index of the first object which equals ob, if none returns -1 */ public synchronized int get(Object ob) { int ans=-1; for(int i=0;i<size();i=i+1) if(at(i).equals(ob)) return i; return ans; } /** returns the element located at the ind place in this container (null if out of range) */ public synchronized Object at(int p){ if (p>=0 && p<size()) return _data[p]; else return null; }

  • How to elegantly say "something unknown is wrong with this program"?

    - by Anvaka
    Medicine has the term idiopathic cardiomyopathy. Cardiomyopathy means something is wrong with your heart, and idiopathic means "we have no idea why yours isn't working." I know we have heisenbugs, bohrbugs, mandelbugs, and so on, but I feel I'm lacking one more buzzword: what's the IT cousin to idiopathic cardiomyopathy? What's an elegant word or phrase for "something unknown is wrong with this program"?

  • regex unicode charater in vim

    - by aidan
    I'm being an idiot. Someone cut and pasted some text from microsoft word into my lovely html files. I now have these unicode characters instead of regular quote symbols, (i.e. quotes appear as <92 in the text) I want to do a regex replace but I'm having trouble selecting them. :%s/\u92/'/g :%s/\u5C/'/g :%s/\x92/'/g :%s/\x5C/'/g ...all fail. My google-fu has failed me.

  • Persistance Queue Implementation

    - by Winter
    I was reading an article on Batch Processing in java over at JDJ http://java.sys-con.com/node/415321 . The article mentioned using a persistence queue as a Batch Updater instead of immediately sending an individual insert or update to the database. The author doesn't give a concrete example of this concept so I googled Persistence Queue but that didn't come up with much. Does anyone know of a good example of this?

  • How can I save a screenshot directly to a file in Windows?

    - by David
    In Windows XP, one can press Alt-PrintScreen to copy an image of the active window, or Ctrl-PrintScreen to copy an image of the full desktop. This can then be pasted into applications that accept images: Photoshop, Microsoft Word, etc. I'm wondering: Is there a way to save the screenshot directly to a file? Do I really have to open Photoshop simply to paste an image, then save it?

  • SQL Query Theory Question...

    - by Keng
    I have a large historical transaction table (15-20 million rows MANY columns) and a table with one row one column. The table with one row contains a date (last processing date) which will be used to pull the data in the trasaction table ('process_date'). Question: Should I inner join the 'process_date' table to the transaction table or the transaction table to the 'process_date' table?
