• When can I find out the width/height of my view

  When is the earliest I can find out the actual (after layout) width/height of my view? I tried to do that @Override protected void onFinishInflate() { super.onFinishInflate(); w = getWidth(); h = getHeight(); } But it gives me 0. I have cases in which the view is invisible in the beginning and that programmically become visible. I think I can do that in onDraw(), but i dont' want to do that in everything I draw() something.

• Reduce text length to fit cell width in a smart manner

  Hello, I am in project where we are building a simple web calendar using Java EE technologies. We define a table where every row is an employee, and every column represents an hour interval. The table width and column widths are adjustable. In every cell we have a text retrieved from a database, indicating what the employee is doing / should do in that time interval. The problem is that sometimes the text in cells is getting bigger than the actual cell. My task is to make the text more "readable" by reducing it's length in a "smart way" so that it can fit in the cell more "gracefully". For example if initially in a cell I have: "Writing documents", after the resize I should retrieve: "Wrtng. dcmnts" or "Writ. docum." so that the text can fit well. Is there a smart way to do it ? Or removing vocals / split the string in two is enough ?

  I am trying to use width and precision specifiers with boost::format, like this: #include <boost\format.hpp> #include <string> int main() { int n = 5; std::string s = (boost::format("%*.*s") % (n*2) % (n*2) % "Hello").str(); return 0; } But this doesn't work because boost::format doesn't support the * specifier. Boost throws an exception when parsing the string. Is there a way to accomplish the same goal, preferably using a drop-in replacement?

• jquery get width of previous image

  So i cant get the jquery correct for this one, whatever i try it returns the wrong width. I wish to make the image within the "img-shadow" div the same size as the image right before it. Notice this will repeat several times on the page. <p> <img src="" alt=""> <div class="img-shadow"> <img src="" alt=""> </div> </p> I hope you don't shake your heads too much on at me on this one, it seems super simple, but .prev .find .closest hasn't worked for me. • How to make content take up 100% of height and width

  I'm so close but I can't get this to work like I want it. I'm trying to get the header and the menu to always be visible and have the content take up the rest of the view screen and have it's own scrollbar when it overflows. The problem is that the width of the content isn't being stretched to the right and I get a scroll bar in the middle of my page. I also can't get it to take up the rest of the remaining window height, if I set the height to 100% it wants to use the whole window height instead of what is left. I'm only working with IE7 or better so need to worry about javascript and am not averse to using jQuery if it can solve this problem! http://pastebin.com/x31mGtXr

• jQuery 1.4 Dynamically created images aspect ratio incorrect in IE8 and max-width

  After upgrading to jQuery 1.4, when I try to add an image to a page dynamically using jQuery 1.4 in IE8, the image will lose the correct aspect ratio. This appears to affect only IE8 (IE7 and Firefox work fine) with jQuery 1.4 (1.3.2 works fine).   I have a list that I have bound to a datagridview. I want the first column to be a fixed size. How can I plot these on a bar graph so that the width of each individual bar along the x axis is defined by the distance between x_lims(:,1) and x_lims(:,2) and the y value is defined by ex1? So far I have: bar(log10(x_lims(:,1)),log10(ex1)); set(gca,'Xtick',3:11,'YTick',0:9); set(gca,'Xticklabel',10.^get(gca,'Xtick'),... • How to align all fields as label width grows

  I have a form where the labels are on the left and the fields on the right. This layout works great when the labels have small amounts of text. I can easily set a min-width on the labels to ensure they all have the same distance to the fields. In the first picture below, this works as expected. A problem arises when the label's text becomes too long, it'll either overflow to the next line or push the field on the same line over to the left (as seen in picture 2). This doesn't push the other labels so it is left with a "jagged" look. Ideally, it should like to style it as picture 3 with something like the following markup: <fieldset> <label>Name</label><input type="text" /><br /> <label>Username</label><input type="text" /> </fieldset> I created a jsFiddle to show the issue. Of course, the easy cross-browser way to solve this would be to use tables. That just creates tag-hell for something that should be so simple. Note: this does not need to support IE6.

  Possible Duplicate: Does google always downrank pages with hidden texts Right now I'm working on my new website and I'm really concerned about SEO since the old version of my site(which is from a script that is unusable now) has PR of 4 and I want to lose it So here is my question There is a panel that has 4 tabs Each tabs has tag which has a href like "/box-page/tab/2" and when javascript is not activated it will go this page and shows the corresponding tab and if it's activated it will just make a simple animation to show the other tab There are four boxes(and for tabs) and since I needed to fix the height of the panel I had to use width: 0 for the rest of tabs to keep the height of the box the same as the longest one and inside these boxes(which have width: 0) there are some information that can be indexed by google So as you know google doesn't have javascript and it will go to /box-page/tab/2 and /box-page/tab/3 and ... in all of these pages the information is the same but with different box showing up in the page So here is my question Does google penalize using a div with width: 0px? And if not does it just ignore the content of the div with width 0?(Which is perfect for me ^^) Thanks

There should be a white border on the right hand side of the screen. I also want the text "Auditorium" not to wrap onto a new line (I would prefer that "13th -" get put onto the new line instead, I don't want to put \n in there because then it would mean it goes onto a new line at that point on bigger screens/landscape view). • How to measure a canvas that has auto height and width

  Hi Folks, I'm a beginner in silverlight so i hope i can get an answer that brings me some more light in the measure process of silverlight. I found an interessting flap out control from silverlight slide control and now I try to use it in my project. So that the slide out is working proper, I have to place the user control on a canvas. The user control then uses for itself the height of its content. I just wanna change that behavior so that the height is set to the available space from the parent canvas. You see the uxBorder where the height is set. How can I measure the actual height and set it to the border? I tried it with Height={Binding ElementName=notificationCanvas, Path=ActualHeight} but this dependency property has no callback, so the actualHeight is never set. • centering a div without setting width

  Is there a way to do this? When using navigation that can change the number of items often, it would be nice not having to calculate the with and updating the css, but just having a solution that works. if that's impossible (I'm assuming it is) can anyone point me to a javascript that can do this? edit re: provide code some code basically I'm working with, what I think is, the most typical setup <div class="main"> <div class="nav"> <ul> <li>short title</li> <li>Item 3 Long title</li> <li>Item 4 Long title</li> <li>Item 5 Long title</li> <li>Item 6 Extra Long title</li> </ul> </div> </div> edit .main { width:100%; text-align:center; } .nav { margin:0 auto; } .nav ul li { display:inline; text-align:left; } the issue I've found with this/these solutions is that the content is nudged to the right adding some right padding (of 40px) seems to fix this across the browsers I'm checking on (O FF IE). .nav { margin:0 auto; padding-right:40px; } I don't know where this value is coming from though and why 40px fixes this. Does anyone know where this is coming from? it's not a margin or padding but no matter what I do the first about 40px can not be used for placement. Maybe it's the ul or li that's adding this. I've had a look at the display:table-cell way of doing this, but there's that complication with IE and it still has the same issue as the other solution edit (final) okay I've tried some things in regard to the indent. I've reset all padding to 0 *{padding:0;} that fixed it, and I don't need to offset the padding (I think I'll leave my whole process up so if anyone comes across this, it'll save them some time) thanks for the comments and replies

• Problems with createImage(int width, int height)

I looked around, and it seems that createImage() will return null if GraphicsEnvironment.isHeadless() returns true. I don't understand exactly what the isHeadless() method's purpose is, but I thought it might have something to do with the compiler or IDE, so I tried on two, both of which get the same error (Eclipse, and BlueJ). Anyone have any idea what the source of the error is, and how I might fix it? Thanks in advance Jonathan ................................................................... • Uploadify Minimum Image Width And Height

  So I am using the Uplodify plugin to allow users to upload multiple images at once. The problem is I need to set a minimum width and height for images. Let's say 150x150px is the smallest image users can upload. How can I set this limitation in the Uploadify plugin? When user tries to upload smaller picture, I would like to display some error message as well.
