  • Atheros AR2413 wireless not working after shutdown

    I am using a Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer aspire 3680 laptop and my wifi is not working. I followed the below commands to install the madwifi driver: sudo su apt-get install subversion cd /usr/src svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk madwifi tar cfvz madwifi.tgz cd madwifi make && make install echo "blacklist ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo "ath_pci" /etc/modules modprobe ath_pci sudo reboot After installation I am facing the same problem. My wifi wont work after I shutdown. Infact it didn't work after suspend but I rectified that problem by the following commands: Command 1: sudo rmmod -f ath_pci sudo rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe ath_pci along with the command SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci added to the /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi directory. So if I suspend and then on my laptop the wifi loads well and doesn't create a problem. But if I shutdown my laptop the wifi never loads again and eachtime I have to run a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to load it. I did try adding the Command 1 to the /etc/rc.local directory but still it doesn't work. So my question is: What should I do in order to make my wireless work without having to run a live CD of ubuntu 9.04 everytime after shutdown? Thanks.     I would like to know more about JuJu cache. After I start a charm and JuJu provisions a machine for the first time, the charm will be downloaded and all dependencies installed (apt-get, etc). This process can be very long. Once the charm has been build, configured and deployed once, can JuJu provision more instances of the same charm pre-built and configured? I presume that's what the cache is for, but the documentation is not very explicit: https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/charms-deploying.html How JuJu tracks the state of the charm if it works that way?     Ethernet works fine after system is rebooted The onboard card is seen in 'lspci' as: 43:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11) After system being suspended the sky2 driver loads but does not enable the NIC. I have noticed that it happens when PC is left suspended for longer period of time (few houres) Trying to reproduce it I have tried to load the sky2 driver with 'modprobe sky2'. Unfortunately typing 'ifconfig -a' for the onboard ethernet adapter does not list the driver once the sky2 driver is loaded. I have searched internet and I found some information about a bug in kernel. Hovewer it was reported in 2010 so I hope it has been fixed.   • Upgrade to 12.04, nothing in dash, no date&time

    I've upgraded from ubuntu netbook remix something to 12.04 lts, and I've got two issues. (Got an Asus eeePc 32bits, Intel 945GME x86/MMX/SSE2 and Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.6Ghz x2) Nothing in the dash. Only the "home" tab, other tabs are missing. No search result whatsoever. Missing elements in the system panel, privacy and date&time. No date&time on the right corner either. I've tried to reset unity with the terminal but the process was a whole mess full of errors. It did show date&time in the system panel (not on the top-right corner) while the process was going on in the terminal. But then it was such a mess (no more icons on the right corner amongst other things), and the process wouldn't complete: so I had to reboot the computer and get unity as before, still no date&time and privacy.   • upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 killed my network connectivity

    I have a wired network connection that worked fine in version 11.10. I upgraded to 12.04 and immediately after the upgrade was completed, the OS reported my "cable unplugged". It is not unplugged and it is not defective. I have a D-link DFE-530TXS 10/100 ethernet NIC and I see what seems to be the generic 10050 driver loaded. Is there any way to just flush anything and everything to do with the network configuration and have Ubuntu reset/find everything again? If not...is there any way I can get it to realize that my network cable is not unplugged? (considering it worked mere minutes before). Thanks.

  • How to define default gateway with multiple DHCP interfaces?

    How does ifconfig determine which network interface to use as the default when DHCP assigns a default route for each NIC? It seems like it's in a race-condition and I need to have a more reliable solution. Is there a setting in /etc/network/interfaces that could define the preferred gateway? I read about "metric" but that did not seem to function. 10.04 LTS Server with two NICs on a managed network. IP addresses are assigned via DHCP which I do not manage. eth0 is assigned a private NAT address; eth1 is assigned a public IP.

The DNS settings are setup to register the connections's addresses on the DNS server. nslookup shows both IP addresses for the server name. How is name resolution done in this case, i.e. which IP address does the DNS server return for a host lookup? Or does it return both, and the client selects one of the addresses?

  • National Give Camp Weekend - January 14-16, 2011

    What is a Give Camp?  I get asked this question constantly in the SharePoint Community.  About 3 years ago there was an event called "We Are Microsoft" in Dallas, TX.  A lady named, Toi Wright, gathered up a bunch of charities and gathered up a bunch of IT Professionals in the community.  They met for an entire weekend devising better ways to help these charities with 3 days projects.  None of these charities had in house IT staff or they were lacking.  The time these projects would save would help out other people in the long run.  The first give camp was really popular that a couple guys from Kansas City decided to come up with a give camp in the Kansas City regiona.  The event was called Coders 4 Charity.  I read Jeff Julian's post on the "We Are Microsoft" event that it inspired me to get involved.  i showed up to this event and we were split into teams.  On that team I met a couple really awsome guys: Blake Theiss, Lee Brandt, Tim Wright, and Joe Loux.  We created a SharePoint site for a boyscout troup.  It was my first exposure to Silverlight 1.1.  I had so much fun that I attended the event the next year and the St. Louis Coders 4 Charity.  Last year in 2010 when I moved i searched high and low.  Sure enough they had an event in Philadelphia.  I helped out with two SharePoint Projects for a team of firefighters and another charity.  This year there are a series of give camps around the U.S.  They have consolidated most of the give camps.  The first ever New York City Give Camp is on National Give Camp Day.  If you guys are interested I see there is a give camp in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Northwest Arkansas, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, and more...Here is a link to the site I would definitely encourage you to get involved: http://givecamp.org/national-givecamp/.  Also, if you feel like it's only developer focused that's entirely wrong.  They need DBAs, Project Leads, Architects, and many other roles fulfilled aside from development.  It is a great experience to meet good people and help out a charity doing what we all love to do.  I strongle encourage getting involved in a give camp.  if you are coming to the NYC Give Camp I would love to meet you.  i will be there on Saturday somewhere in the morning until around dinner time.

  • Script For Detecting Availability of XMLHttp in Internet Explorer

    Having the XMLHttpRequest API available is key to any ADF Faces Rich Client application. Unfortunately, it is possible for users to switch off this option in Internet Explorer as a Security setting. Without XMLHttpRequest available, your ADF Faces application will simply not work correctly, but rather than giving the user a bad user experience wouldn't it be nicer to tell them that they need to make some changes in order to use the application?  Thanks to Blake Sullivan in the ADF Faces team we now have a little script that can do just this. The script is available from https://samplecode.oracle.com here - The attached file browserCheck.js is what you'll need to add to your project.The best way to use this script is to make changes to whatever template you are using for the entry points to your application. If you're not currently using template then you'll have to make the same change in each of your JSPX pages. Save the browserCheck.js file into a /js/ directory under your HTML root within your UI project (e.g. ViewController)In the template or page, select the <af:document> object in the Structure window. From the right mouse (context) menu choose Facet and select the metaContainer facet.Switch to the source code view and locate the metaContainer facet. Then insert the following lines (I've included the facet tag for clarity but you'll already have that):      <f:facet name="metaContainer">        <af:resource type="javascript"                      source="/js/browserCheck.js"/>        <af:resource type="javascript">           xmlhttpNativeCheck(                     "help/howToConfigureYourBrowser.html");        </af:resource>      </f:facet>Note that the argument to the xmlhttpNativeCheck function is a page that you want to show to the user if they need to change their browser configuration. So build this page in the appropriate place as well. You can also just call the function without any arguments e.g. xmlhttpNativeCheck(); in which case it will pop up default instructions for the user to follow, but not redirect to any other page.

    In April Microsoft will hold the next MIX event. MIX was usually targeted at web designers and developers but has grown over the years to be more a general conference focused on the web and devices. In other words: everything the normal consumer might encounter. It’s not your typical developers conference, although you’ll find many developers there as well. But next to the developers you’ll probably run into designers and user experience specialists as well. This year I am proud to say that I will be one of the people presenting there. Together with all the Surface MVP’s in the world (sounds impressive, but there are only 7 of us) we’ll host a panel discussion on all things Surface, NUI and everything else that matches those subjects. Here’s what the abstract says: The Natural User Interface (NUI) is a hot topic that generates a lot of excitement, but there are only a handful of companies doing real innovation with NUIs and most of the practical experience in the NUI style of design and development is limited to a small number of experts. The Microsoft Surface MVPs are a subset of these experts that have extensive real-world experience with Microsoft Surface and other NUI devices. This session is a panel featuring the Microsoft Surface MVPs and an unfiltered discussion with each other and the audience about the state of the art in NUI design and development. We will share our experiences and ideas, discuss what we think NUI will look like in the near future, and back up our statements with cutting-edge demonstrations prepared by the panelists involving combinations of Microsoft Surface 2.0, Kinect, and Windows Phone 7. We, as Surface MVPs think we are more than just Surface oriented. We like to think we are more NUI MVP’s. But since that’s not a technology with Microsoft you can’t actually become a NUI MVP so Surface is the one that comes the closest. We are currently working on the details of our session but believe me: it will blow you away. Several people we talked to have said this could potentially be the best session of Mix. Quite a challenge, but we’re up for it! Of course I won’t be telling you exactly what we’re going to do in Las Vegas but rest assured that when you visit our session you’ll leave with a lot of new ideas and hopefully be inspired to bring into practice what you’ve seen. Even if the technology we’ll show you isn’t readily available yet.     I originally tried to rejoin a computer to a network which led to a "cannot find domain" error. The username/password box don't even come up. some tests i ran: I can ping the server, however I can't ping the domain name domain1.local. nslookup can't find the domain either. It looks to the isp's dns instead of my own to resolve the local machines. So i go to the dns and run netdiag.exe and gives me this error.   • Supermicro IPMI on MBD-X8DAH+-F-O motherboard. Keyboard and mouse do not work after booting Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hell Everyone, I built a server with the mentioned motherboard. I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise on this server. IPMI is integrated on the motherboard with its own dedicated NIC. I've got that NIC configured with its own IP address. I can remote into it using IPMI, and I can remotely control the server settings before booting the OS ( BIOS, RAID configuration, etc). When the OS boots, I lose the mouse and keyboard. I cannot use the keyboard or mouse when installing the OS either. So the Keyboard and Mouse only work when no OS is loaded. Once the OS loads I lose it - that is my problem. I've been doing some research and trying a few things, but I have not been successful in fixing this issue. I may be wrong, but based on the things I've found online, it seems that the problem could be caused by the way the OS handles USB. The server is headless. There is no keyboard, mouse, or monitor plugged into it. When I boot up the OS and remote into it, I cannot see a mouse or keyboard listed in the Device Manager. Based on what I've read, it seems that the OS should detect a mouse and a keyboard when connecting remotely via IPMI. The following are the solutions I've tried. Nothing has worked so far: I've updated the firmware of the IPMI component to the latest firmware - 1.33. I made sure that the mouse mode was set to Absolute (Windows OS). I've loaded the factory defaults several times. I've enabled Port64h/60h Emulation under the USB settings in the BIOS. I've disabled USB legacy support in the BIOS. I made sure the firewall wasn't blocking IPMI (disabled the firewall). And that's about it. I've found threads in some forums from people having the same issue as me, but they were not running the same OS. They were either running Linux or FreeBSD. Most of them fixed their problem by selecting the right mouse mode (Linux in their case). There was one other that solved the problem by disabling USB Mass Storage mode. He stated "When I set it to disable USB Mass Storage when no image is loaded, the ukbd came alive, and I'm typing this on the IPMI Console. I've found several threads on the internet with issues describing the same problem, but none of them were with Windows Server 2008 R2. Again, I may be wrong, but it seems like that could be the issue. I just don't know how I go about applying a solution in Windows Server 2008 R2. In any case, I could use your expertise. Maybe I am missing something, or maybe I'm on the right track. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance,
