• How to customize the Combobox dropdown list?

  I have created a Combo box using HIComboBoxCreate(). When I have a long string in the dropdown list, it goes beyond the screen and the starting of the string is not visible. I want the string to be truncated with ellipsis in such a case. I have looked into the ComboBox attributes but couldn't find any that I can use to set this. I'm ready to write some extra code to do this, but I'm not sure if it possible. Can someone please help?

• Flex 1009 error Chart datatip

  I am simply trying to hide a datatip on a chart if the hit data item (yfield item) is == 101 for two differnt series an areaseries and a line series. The following funciton works in IE but throws an error in firefox. • iPhone: InterfaceBuilder nibs disconnected from my project

  Since upgrading to XCode 3.2, InterfaceBuilder doesn't play nice. All of my image links are broken in IB but they'll show fine when I compile. When I go to the combo box to select an image for my UIImageView, it doesn't have the image files I've added to my app. I also can't create a new .nib and associate it with a class I've written. Like images, my custom viewcontrollers aren't available to pick from. I'm going to try a reinstall but I was curious if anyone's dealt with this?

• Overhead of serving pages - JSPs vs. PHP vs. ASPXs vs. C

  I am interested in writing my own internet ad server. I want to serve billions of impressions with as little hardware possible. Which server-side technologies are best suited for this task? I am asking about the relative overhead of serving my ad pages as either pages rendered by PHP, or Java, or .net, or coding Http responses directly in C and writing some multi-socket IO monster to serve requests (I assume this one wins, but if my assumption is wrong, that would actually be most interesting). Obviously all the most efficient optimizations are done at the algorithm level, but I figure there has got to be some speed differences at the end of the day that makes one method of serving ads better than another. How much overhead does something like apache or IIS introduce? There's got to be a ton of extra junk in there I don't need. At some point I guess this is more a question of which platform/language combo is best suited - please excuse the in-adroitly posed question, hopefully you understand what I am trying to get at.

• Removing item from a comma delimited string when removed from list view

  I'm using a combo box to select an item from a list of 25 items. The selected item is input in a text box in a comma delimited string. It is updating a list view and showing each item separately by breaking the comma delimited string. The text box is not visible to users but doing the work in back end. Now I want to remove any item from list view and want it so that the text box containing the comma delimited string should also change and remove that item from the string. Is it possible?

• Why does my ConfirmButtonExtender cause full postbacks after I've toggled its parent usercontrol's v

  Hello all, I have a series of usercontrols on a page that are displayed based on a selection. Each usercontrol contains a Delete button with a ConfirmButton/ModalPopupExtender combo attached to it. This works great when first loading any of the usercontrols--clicking delete shows my Confirm Modal popup and hitting yes or no causes an async postback to perform the operation. But if I move away from the usercontrol and come back to it, the Confirm Modal Popup appears but clicking yes or no now causes a full postback (the operation does still take place). Why does changing the visible property cause this?

• Why I cannot access the properties of my Custom ComboBox

  Ok, I created a windows control project....dropped a comboBox on it, wrote some custom code that I wanted on its event ( Text Changed event, etc) ... I can also compile it and drop it on a new WinForms App... good. But in my sample WinForms app that I want to use it, I cannot access the properties of that combo box.. it does not list them .. properties like SelectedItems, etc... what Am I doing wrong? this is my first time creating a custom control tho. • UI to allow 700+ multiple choices

  In my desktop .NET application I have written(for internal use) where I need to allow my users to apply diagnosis's to a Member Plan. There are currently 700 in the system and growing. I need to allow them to add multiple diapnosis's at once. I currently am allowing this through a combo check list box. This works but is INSANELY unweildly for both myself and the users. What I am looking for is a how I could go about displaying these to the users. Ideally I would need to show two criteria for each each as well. Diagnosis Name and Diagnosis Code Ideas? How would you tackle this? I am using .Net 3.5sp1 and SQL 2005 for the backend. I don't care if the solution is WPF or Winforms.

I tried using an Index and Match combo, but I couldn't quite understand it.

  all! I'll try to be as detailed as possible in describing my predicament. I have a little background knowledge in Visual Basic, but none really in VBA or VBscript in Outlook 2010. I'm working with Outlook 2010. I created a custom form (this is my first time). I have a combo box named ComboBox1 and a text box named TextBox1. I am trying to auto-populate TextBox1 with a number based on the selection made from ComboBox1 (ex. I select Value 1 from ComboBox1 and TextBox1 populates with 124). I made an attempt using this code in the Visual Basic Editor (VBA version 7.0): Sub popBox() If ComboBox1 = "Value 1" Then TextBox1 = "124" End If End Sub My question is what am I doing wrong?   Before the days of Aero Snap you would need to arrange your Windows in some weird way to see all of your files. Today we show you how to quickly use the Aero Snap feature get it done in few key strokes in Windows 7. You can of course navigate the windows in Explorer to get them so you can see everything side by side, or use a free utility like Cubic Explorer.   Getting Explorer Windows Side by Side The process is actually simple but quite useful when looking for a large amount of data. Right-click the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar and click Windows Explorer. Our first window opens up and you can certainly drag it over the the right or left side of the screen but the quickest method we’re using is the “Windows Key+Right Arrow” key combo (make sure to hold the Windows key down). Now the Windows is nicely placed on the right side. Next we want to open the other window, simply right-click the Explorer icon again and click Windows Explorer.   Now we have our second window open, and all we need to do this time is use the Windows Key+Left Arrow combination. There we go! Now you should be able to browse your files a lot more simply than relying on the expanding tree method (as much). You can actually use this method to snap a window to all four corners of your screen if you don’t feel like dragging it. Once you play with Aero Snap more you may enjoy it, but if you still despise it, you can disable it too!   Which platform as the edge today in 2012 with the rise of cloud computing, mobile development and the revolution of HTML5/Javascript between J2EE, .Net framework and IOS Objective-C ??? I want to start learning 1 language between Java, C# and Objective-C and get back into programming after 14 years and I don't know which to choose I need expert advices... I already know a little C++ and I remember my concepts in example pointers arithmetic, class etc so I tend to prefer learning C# and Objective-C but I've been told by some experienced programmers that Windows 8 could flop and .Net could be going away slowly since C++ and Html5/Javascript could be king in mobile is that true ? and that C# is more advanced compared to Java with Linq/Lambda... but not truly as portable if we consider android, etc but Java as a lot going for him too Scala, Clojure, Groovy, JRuby, JPython etc etc so I am lost Please help me, and don't close this right away I really need help and expert advices thanks you very much ANSWER : ElYusubov : thanks for everything please continue with the answers/explanations I just did some native C++ in dos mode in 1998 before Cli and .Net I don't know the STL,Templates, Win32 or COM but I remember a little the concept of memory management and oop etc I already played around a little with C# 1.0 in 2002 but things changed a lot with linq and lambda... I am here because I talked with some experienced programmers and authors of some the best selling programming books like apress wrox and deitel and they told me a few things are likely to happen like .Net could be on his way out because of Html5/Javascript combo could kill xaml and C++ native apps on mobile dev will outperform them by a lot... Secondly ios and android are getting so popular that mobile dev is the future so Objective-C is very hard to ignore so why get tied down in Windows long term (.Net) compared to Java (android)... but again android is very fragmented, they also said Windows 8 RT will give you access to only a small part of the .Net framework... so that's what they think so I don't know which direction to choose I wanted to learn C# & .Net but what if it die off or Windows 8 flop Windows Phone marketshare really can't compare to ios... so I'll be stuck that's why I worry is Java safer long term or more versatile if you want 'cause of the support for android ??

• Part 1 Basic Webtrends REST Examples

  In this entry I just want to cover some examples of how to connect to Webtrends DX Web Services.  The DX Web Services use REST as the architecture, providing simple URI based end points to connect to.  With the Webtrends SDK you can connect to these services with your account information.  Here are the basic steps to retrieve a profile list, the reports from one of those profiles, and then the report you want from that report list. First step is to create a Webtrends User. WebTrends.Sdk.Account.User webtrendsUser = new Account.User(); webtrendsUser.UserName = username; webtrendsUser.Password = password; webtrendsUser.AccountName = account; After you create the Webtrends User, simple request a profile list by getting list of ProfileDefinition Objects. List<WebTrends.Sdk.Profile.ProfileDefinition> profiles = WebTrends.Sdk.Factory.NavigationFactory.BuildListing(webtrendsUser); Next you will want to grab a report based on the profile you are in and your credentials. List<WebTrends.Sdk.Report.ReportDefinition> reports = WebTrends.Sdk.Factory.NavigationFactory.BuildListing(profiles[i], webtrendsUser); In the code above, i would equate to the specific profile you want from the retrieved list of profiles in the profiles list.  The common scenario is that one has pulled the profiles into a drop down, combo, or list box that the user can select.  Then when the user selects the specific profile that profile object can then be used to pull the List of ReportDefinitions. Once we have the report definitions, all sorts of criteria can be added together to query for a specific report.  This is also were things can get a little tricky.  For instance, take a look at the code below. WebTrends.Sdk.Factory.ReportFactory.CreateDimensionalReport( report.ID.ToString(), profiles[i].ID.ToString(), "2010m01", webtrendsUser); The CreateDimensionalReport takes 4 parameters for this particular overload.  The report ID, profile ID, the Webtrends Date Format, and the Webtrends User Object.  There are a number of other overloads available within this factory's method that allow for passing the specific REST URI, and other criteria to retrieve the report of your choice.  In the near future we will be adding some more to this method also, which will provide more flexibility without needing to use the full REST URI. • Unable to boot ubuntu 11.10 from external usb drive

  I'm new to Ubuntu (and actually all things Linux) as of this morning, so please excuse any stupid mistakes I may be making. I recently bought an external hard drive for my newly built PC (that is running windows 7 if it matters). I would like to install Ubuntu onto the external drive and boot from there. I downloaded Ubuntu 11.10 and made a bootable cd, unplugged my internal HDDs, plugged in the external drive, installed Ubuntu 11.10 on the external drive via the installer, and replugged in my internal HDDs. Then I set my bios boot order to: Boot from USB-HDD - Boot from Hard Disk - Boot from CD/DVD. Now when I restart I get the message "Starting Operating System..." (or something like that, I forget exactly what it says) that lingers on the screen for a moment and then windows starts. Any idea what the problem may be? ~Relevant info~ BIOS version: Award Software International, Inc. F2, 2/22/2011 Ubuntu Version: 11.10 External Hard Drive: Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB Portable Hard Drive (Black) ~Things I've already tried~ 1) Unplug internal HDDs so that only external drive was plugged in via usb. Same thing happened only obviously my BIOS could not detect any hard drives besides the external one. When booting received error "Could not detect operating system" 2) Formatted external hard drive and re installed. It didn't make a difference, however interestingly when I booted from cd the ubuntu installer said it detected ubuntu 11.10 on the external hard drive. 3) Within BIOS I've messed around with every boot order combo I could think of both in the "Hard Disk boot order" screen and the "Boot order" screen. I'm a little confused of why there are two screens for this. 4) Held F12 during startup which opens (what I think is) the one time boot screen and it gave me the options "Hard Drive", "cd/dvd", "USB-FDD", "USB-cdrom", "USB-HDD", and "USB-something else I can't remember what it was". I tried all of them, but the same thing as before happened each time. ~References~ I noticed several people on askubuntu have tried to do something similar if not the exact same. In fact, I even found a post that pretty much outlines step by step exactly what I did... only their's worked. /jealous. Linky: Install Ubuntu or Kubuntu on a External USB Drive I'm willing to try a different version of ubuntu - it's not like my heart is set on 11.10, but it's a pain to open my case and unplug my internal hard drives so I'd prefer not to do this unless someone is reasonably confident it'll work. • KVM recommendations

  I recently tried out a cheaper KVM solution, a dual monitor one with a USB hub and audio/mic support. It seemed the perfect KVM. However, these are my experiences. When using my keyboard via the PS/2 connection, none of my multimedia keys work (useful, because it has a volume control and my speakers do not, only on a wireless remote control.) I plugged the keyboard in via the USB port - and it seemed to work. However, I believe to switch the hub from PC to Mac, you need to use a keyboard combo, which is only supported when the keyboard is plugged in via PS/2 Sometimes the middle mouse button doesn't work when connected via PS/2. The multi monitor is VGA - I just found out by the looks of things my Mac Mini outputs DVI Digital only (though this is my fault!). Mac works with 2 screens, but switching and switching back can cause it not to display on the 2nd screen unless I go detect displays again. My question is - is there a KVM out there that supports these features? USB keyboard and mouse inputs will full multimedia keys support Dual monitor DVI connections Hotkey to change PCs and physical button USB hub Emulate screens attached when switching to a different computer Works with PC and Mac Audio / Microphone support Does one exist, that won't cost the world? So far the only one that seems to support all this (that I can tell) is this one. UPDATE I ended up buying the Aten CS1642. It's expensive, but it seems to work great!

  Basically, my question is "Does this combo work for anyone," and, "Can you see what I am doing wrong" I have installed 64 bit ODBC driver for sqlite, downloaded from this page. I am running powershell version 2 on window 7. In ODBC configuration I create a system DSN with name LoveBoat, pointing at a valid file. I don't have any "real" apps to test whether the ODBC connection works, but a simple program I list below works.   We used to use Collabnet SVN/Apache combo on a Windows server with LDAP authentication, and whilst the performance wasn't brilliant it used to work perfectly. After switching to a fresh Ubuntu 10 install, and setting up an Apache/SVN/LDAP configuration, we have HTTPS access to our repositories, using Active Directory authentication via LDAP. We're now having a very peculiar issue. Whenever a new user accesses a repository, our SVN clients (we have a few depending on the tool, but for arguments sake, let's stick to Tortoise SVN) report "Error 500 - Unknown Response". To get around this, we have to log into the repo using a web browser and navigate 'backwards' until it works E.G: SVN Checkout https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/MyModule/ - Error 500 (bad) Webbrowse to https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/MyModule/ - Error 500 (bad) Webbrowse to https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/ - Error 500 (bad) Webbrowse to https://svn.example.local/SVN/ - Forbidden 403 (correct) Webbrowse to https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/ - OK 200 (correct) SVN Checkout https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/MyModule/ - Error 500 (bad) Webbrowse to https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/MyModule/ - OK 200 (correct) SVN Checkout https://svn.example.local/SVN/MyRepo/MyModule/ - OK 200 (correct) It seems to require authentication up the tree, starting from the svnparentpath up through to the module required. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any ideas on where to start before I ditch it back to Collabnet's SVN server?

• WebSeal and jsp content updated by Ajax

  Hey, I have a problem running an application on environment with WebSeal. It is a web application with Java server that contains many parts that are replcaed within the page according to user input. For instance - a form called Outer.jsp may contain a form:options combo-box (by spring-forms), that uppon selection of an option, a certain Div is updated with a content produced by a jsp and fetched by an Ajax call (the ajax impementation in the client is done by Prototype JavaScript framework 1.5.1.2). Let's call the content fetched by ajax - Inner.jsp So Outer.jsp is fetching Inner.jsp, which in turn uses js functions in files included by the Outer.jsp. This, I think, is where my problem starts - Inner.jsp is not familiar with any of the functions included in Outer.jsp. And so, almost any operation performed by Inner.jsp is failing miserably. Needless to say - this works perfect when running on environment without WebSeal. Note that the scripting is enabled in WebSeal junction (with the -J option). I also see that the content returned by the Ajax call includes a document.cookie added by WebSeal (not sure it matters to this problem) Can anyone assist? Thanks! Lior

• Remotely managing Scheduled Tasks on another computer: Access Denied

  I need to remotely create new scheduled tasks from a Windows 7 computer in my company (which according to this Microsoft TechNet article I should be able to do. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766266.aspx ) From within Task Scheduler, on the menu I click Action Connect to another Computer. I browse for the remote computer's name (I use Check Names to verify that the name is correct) and then I check 'Connect as another user' and enter \Administrator and the local admin password. Whenever I try this, I get the error message Task Scheduler: You do not have permission to access this computer Firewall isn't the problem I am able to use Remote Desktop with this username & password combo, so I would expect it to work when remotely managing as well. The remote computer has firewall exceptions for Remote Scheduled Tasks Management, Remote Service Management, and Remote Desktop among other things. Heck, I even tried turning off the firewall for that individual computer and it still didn't work. More details: I have administrative remote access to several other Windows 7 Enterprise computers, though I log in as the local Administrator (whose administrative rights are only recognized by that local machine, not by the domain). The computer I am managing from is on the domain, and also has administrative rights that are recognized on the domain. More experimentation: If I go the other way around and remote-desktop into the other machine and from there open task scheduler then 'connect to another computer', I am able to connect back to my main computer using the username & password that is recognized by an administrator on the domain, and successfully schedule a task on my main computer. So it's not a company firewall issue that's preventing anything from working. The only permissions requirement Microsoft talks about is "The user credentials that you use to connect to the remote computer must be a member of the Administrators group on the remote computer". I'm logging in as an Administrator on each of the local machines, so why doesn't it work?
