However it causes the legend to give birth to a little legend beneath it, entitled "3" and containing nothing but a big dot and the number 3. This does the same ggplot(myDat,aes(VarX,VarY,shape=Descrip)) + geom_point(aes(size=3)) Yes, it is funny. It would have driven me insane a couple hours ago if it weren't so funny. But now let's make it stop.

• How do I get my custom WPF textbox to fill correctly?

  I am trying to create a custom WPF textbox control that extends the standard textbox control but the extended textbox behaves differently when placed in control containers. Within my Window I have a stackpanel with a standard textbox and my extended textbox: <StackPanel Margin="10"> <TextBox Height="21" /> <l:SearchTextBox Search="SearchTextBox_Search" Height="21" Margin="0, 10, 0, 0" SearchMode="Delayed" HorizontalAlignment="Left" /> </StackPanel> The standard textbox stretches the length of the StackPanel whereas the custom textbox does not. • OpenCV Python HoughCircles error

  Hi, I'm working on a program that detects circular shapes in images. I decided a Hough Transform would be the best, and I found one in the OpenCV library. The problem is that when I try to use it I get an error that I have no idea how to fix. Is OpenCV for Python not fully implemented? Is there a fix to the library I need for the program to work? • Visual Studio Windows Forms Designer keyboard shortcuts

  Extremely basic question. Are there common actions I can perform using keyboard shortcuts in the Windows Forms designer in Visual Studio (2008)? Alternately, could I add my own keyboard shortcuts (either through settings or macros)? It'd really be nice if I could, for example, set a control to dock/undock in its parent container by typing Alt+D. Or if I could set a control's name just by typing Alt+N and typing the name. Things like that. It's just kind of tedious to click on the item, scroll in the Properties grid to the property I want to change, type the new value, scroll to the next property I want to change, etc. Which is why I have a feeling this functionality is in there already, or is easily configurable, and I just don't know about it.

• Remove mailmerge data source via OpenXML

  I have some code that uses OpenXML to open up a docx file, find all mailmerge fields, and replace them with data (ignoring the datasource that may have been provided). I initially tested this against a document created in Office 2007 and it seemed to work great. We then created one in 2003 based off an Excel spreadsheet data source and saved it to 2007 docx format. When we open the file produced by my code, Word warns the user that it is going to execute some SQL, specifically "SELECT * from 'Sheet1$'". It has options of Yes/No. Selecting Yes requires I find the data source. Selecting No brings me to the document, which appears to be correct. I'm not sure why I'm now seeing this pop up. Perhaps it's due to a different data source for the 2003 document? My hope was that there was a way to delete all references to any datasources and that the pop-up wouldn't show. I found this, but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

• Automatically calling OnDetaching() for Silverlight Behaviors

  I am using several Blend behaviors and triggers on a silverlight control. I am wondering if there is any mechanism for automatically detaching or ensuring that OnDetaching() is called for a behavior or trigger when the control is no longer being used (i.e. removed from the visual tree). My problem is that there is a managed memory leak with the control because of one of the behaviors. The behavior subscribes to an event on some long-lived object in the OnAttached() override and should be unsubscribing to that event in the OnDetaching() override so that it can become a candidate for garbage collection. However, OnDetaching() never seems to be getting called when I remove the control from the visual tree... the only way I can get it to happen is by explicit detaching the behavior BEFORE removing the control and then it is properly garbage collected. Right now my only solution was to create a public method in the code-behind for the control that can go through and detach any known behaviors that would cause garbage collection problems. It would be up to the client code to know to call this before removing the control from the panel. I don't really like this approach, so I am looking for some automatic way of doing this that I am overlooking or a better suggestion. public void DetachBehaviors() { foreach (var behavior in Interaction.GetBehaviors(this.LayoutRoot)) { behavior.Detach(); } //... //continue detaching all known problematic behaviors.... }

• TwoWay Binding to ListBox SelectedItem on more than one list box in WPF

  I have a scenario where I have a globally available Properties window (similar to the Properties window in Visual Studio), which is bound to a SelectedObject property of my model. I have a number of different ways to browse and select objects, so my first attempt was to bind them to SelectedObject directly. For example: <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding ActiveProject.Controllers}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedObject, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding ActiveProject.Machines}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedObject, Mode=TwoWay}"/> This works well when I have more than one item in each list, but it fails if a list has only one item. When I select the item, SelectedObject is not updated, since the list still thinks its original item was selected. I believe this happens because the two way binding simply ignores the update from source when SelectedObject is not an object in the list, leaving the list's SelectedItem unchanged. In this way, the bindings become out of sync. Does anybody know of a way to make sure the list boxes reset their SelectedItem when the SelectedObject is not in the list? Is there a better way to do this that doesn't suffer from this problem?

• UIButton doesn't listen to content mode setting?

  firstButton is a UIButton of type Custom. I'm programmatically putting three of them across each cell of a table, thusly: [firstButton setImage:markImage forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [firstButton setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit]; [cell.contentView addSubview:firstButton]; Elsewhere, I'm telling it to clipToBounds. What I get is a crop of the center square of the image, rather than an aspect-scaled rendering of it. I've tried this lots of ways, including setting the mode property on firstButton.imageView, which also doesn't seem to work.

• file layout and setuptools configuration for the python bit of a multi-language library

  So we're writing a full-text search framework MongoDb. MongoDB is pretty much javascript-native, so we wrote the javascript library first, and it works. Now I'm trying to write a python framework for it, which will be partially in python, but partially use those same stored javascript functions - the javascript functions are an intrinsic part of the library. On the other hand, the javascript framework does not depend on python. since they are pretty intertwined it seems like it's worthwhile keeping them in the same repository. I'm trying to work out a way of structuring the whole project to give the javascript and python frameworks equal status (maybe a ruby driver or whatever in the future?), but still allow the python library to install nicely. Currently it looks like this: (simplified a little) javascript/jstest/test1.js javascript/mongo-fulltext/search.js javascript/mongo-fulltext/util.js python/docs/indext.rst python/tests/search_test.py python/tests/__init__.py python/mongofulltextsearch/__init__.py python/mongofulltextsearch/mongo_search.py python/mongofulltextsearch/util.py python/setup.py I've skipped out a few files for simplicity, but you get the general idea; it' a pretty much standard python project... except that it depends critcally ona whole bunch of javascript which is stored in a sibling directory tree. What's the preferred setup for dealing with this kind of thing when it comes to setuptools? I can work out how to use package_data etc to install data files that live inside my python project as per the setuptools docs. The problem is if i want to use setuptools to install stuff, including the javascript files from outside the python code tree, and then also access them in a consistent way when I'm developing the python code and when it is easy_installed to someone's site. Is that supported behaviour for setuptools? Should i be using paver or distutils2 or Distribute or something? (basic distutils is not an option; the whole reason I'm doing this is to enable requirements tracking) How should i be reading the contents of those files into python scripts?

Module Level Delegate Sub GetPartListDataFromServer(ByVal dvOriginal As DataView, ByVal ProgramID As Integer) Dim dlgGetPartList As GetPartListDataFromServer The following code I use in a method Dim dlgGetPartList As New GetPartListDataFromServer(AddressOf AsyncThreadMethod_GetPartListDataFromServer) dlgGetPartList.BeginInvoke(ucboPart.DataSource, ucboProgram.Value, AddressOf AsyncCallback_GetPartListDataFromServer, Nothing) The method runs and does what it needs to The Asyn callback is fired upon completion where I do an EndInvoke Sub AsyncCallback_GetPartListDataFromServer(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult) dlgGetPartList.EndInvoke(Nothing) End Sub It works as long as the method that starts the BeginInvoke on the delegate only ever runs while there is not a BeginInvoke/Thread operation already running. Problem is that the a new thread could be invoked while another thread on the delegate is still running and hasnt yet been EndInvoke'd. The program needs to be able to have the delegate run in more than one instance at a time if necessary and they all need to complete and have EndInvoke called. Once I start another BeginInvoke I lose the reference to the first BeginInvoke so I am unable to clean up the new thread with an EndInvoke. What is a clean solution and best practice to overcome this problem?

• Saving selected rows in a jqGrid while paging

  I have a jqGrid with which users will select records. A large number of records could be selected across multiple pages. The selected rows seem to get cleared out when the user pages through the data. Is it up to the developer to manually track the selected rows in an array? I'm fine doing this, but I'm not sure what the best way is. I'm not sure I want to be splicing an array whenever any number of records are selected as that seems like it could really slow things down. My end goal is to have a jQueryUI dialog that, when closed, while store all the selected rows so I can post it to the server. Insight, questions, comments; all are appreciated! • Killing a deadlocked Task in .NET 4 TPL

  I'd like to start using the Task Parallel Library, as this is the recommended framework going forward for performing asynchronous operations. One thing I haven't been able to find is any means of forcible Abort, such as what Thread.Abort provides. My particular concern is that I schedule tasks running code that I don't wish to completely trust. In particular, I can't be sure this untrusted code won't deadlock and therefore I can't be certain if a Task I schedule using this code will ever complete. I want to stay away from true AppDomain isolation (due to the overhead and complexity of marshaling), but I also don't want to leave a Task thread hanging around, deadlocked. Is there a way to do this in TPL?

  I see these terms banded around all over the place in programming and I have a vague notion of what they mean. A search shows me that such things have been asked all over stack overflow in fact. As far as I'm aware Static/Dynamic typing in languages is subtly different to Strong/Weak typing but what that difference is eludes me. Different sources seem to use different different meanings or even use the terms interchangeably. I can't find somewhere that talks about both and actually spells out the difference. What would be nice is if someone could please spell this out clearly here for me and the rest of the world.

• Move a legend in ggplot2

  I'm trying to create a ggplot2 plot with the legend beneath the plot. The ggplot2 book says on p 112 "The position and justification of legends are controlled by the theme setting legend.position, and the value can be right, left, top, bottom, none (no legend), or a numeric position". The following code works (since "right" it is the default), and it also works with "none" as the legend position, but "left", "top", "bottom", all fail with "Error in grid.Call.graphics("L_setviewport", pvp, TRUE) : Non-finite location and/or size for viewport" library(ggplot2) (myDat <- data.frame(cbind(VarX=10:1, VarY=runif(10)), Descrip=sample(LETTERS[1:3], 10, replace=TRUE))) qplot(VarX,VarY, data=myDat, shape=Descrip) + opts(legend.position="right") What am I doing wrong?   I have an OpenGl program in which I am displaying an image using textures. I want to be able to load a new image to be displayed. In my Init function I call: Gl.glGenTextures(1, mTextures); Since only one image will be displayed at time, I am using the same texture name for each image. Each time a new image is loaded I call the following: Gl.glBindTexture(Gl.GL_TEXTURE_2D, mTexture[0]); Gl.glTexImage2D(Gl.GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, Gl.GL_LUMINANCE, mTexSizeX, mTexSizeY, 0, Gl.GL_LUMINANCE, Gl.GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, mTexBuffer); Gl.glTexParameteri(Gl.GL_TEXTURE_2D, Gl.GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, Gl.GL_LINEAR); Gl.glTexParameteri(Gl.GL_TEXTURE_2D, Gl.GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, Gl.GL_LINEAR); The first image will display as expected. However, all images load after the first, display as all black. What am I doing wrong?
