  • Coding for fun

    - by Klelky
I would describe myself as a career coder - i.e. a developer at work but never really coded for fun. Early in my career I've hit the management track though. I really like my current job and can't see me going back to coding anytime soon so: Whats the best way to develop my coding skills and learn new languages in my spare time?

  • What’s the ROI of Continuous Integration?

    - by Liggy
Currently, our organization does not practice Continuous Integration. In order for us to get an CI server up and running, I will need to produce a document demonstrating the return on the investment. Aside from cost savings by finding and fixing bugs early, I'm curious about other benefits/savings that I could stick into this document.

  • C# OOP File Structure?

    - by Soo
Hey SO, I just started programming with objects recently and am trying to learn good habits early on. The way I plan to structure my application is to have two files: 1: Program.cs - This file will contain the main logic for the application 2: Class.cs - This file will contain all of the class definitions Pretty simple. What I'm wondering if I should have any more files for ... well, you tell me. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Reading all compile errors in Windows command-line?

    - by ArdillaRoja
Noob question, apologies. I'm compiling Java in Windows Vista's command-line and have so many syntax errors that some are being pushed off the top (a lot of 'class, interface or enum expected' errors which leads me to believe it's an obvious syntax mistake early on in the code that I can't spot). Does anyone know how I could get it to display those first errors? Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Are there other search options for heroku

    - by Jonathan
I am about to launch a beta site, and heroku looks like a great option. The only think that is getting me down is that the only search option is $20/mth for the Websolr add-on. I am sure that Websolr is great, but at this very early point in this project, I rather not light up that expense. Are there any free search options to couple with heroku's Blossom (free) plan. I feel like such a cheapskate!

  • How have you implemented SCRUM for working alone?

    - by chipk
I am working alone at the beginning of a sizable open source project and would like to leverage some of the core ideas/methods from Scrum to help manage my time and remain focused on development and deploying early, demonstrable functionality. I would like to hear from others who have used Scrum alone and what you have found particularly useful to these ends. Thanks.

  • REST, HTTP verbs and current development in .NET and silverlight

    - by vtortola
Hi, I've read several posts in the internet about that Silverlight only supports GET and POST, and that the most of the web browsers too. Is this true? has it changed lately? I'm developing a RESTful web service for a Silverlight application, still in early stage, and I'd like to know if I should use just POST and GET, or otherwise I could use PUT and delete. Cheers

  • Visual Studio 2010 - service pack 1

    - by Jinath Sanjitha
Hi, Does anybody knows when will Microsoft release (in their plans or in roadmaps) a 'service pack' for Visual Studio 2010. I know it's too early to ask, but my client requires a stable release of VS 2010 + .Net 4.0 before going into development of his project. Thanks.

  • Rails 2.3.2: Accessing Model Specific Data in Another Model

    - by Gimli
I'm using Rails 2.3.2 and using Paperclip to upload photos. I'm also using a slightly customized subdomain_accounts.rb to set some account-specific variables. My question is this: How can I set the bucket used in Paperclip to be dependent on the current account? Since this looks to be a model attribute set up early on, how can I override it later? Thanks.

  • Storing data in HTML, javascript book, articles recommendations.

    - by michael
I'm looking for articles or books that discuss schemes and techniques adopted by pro javascript developers to store and organize data with html tags. In other words, how to emulate xml data storage with html as semantically as possible. Some various solutions that I've seen mentioned in passing are custom DTD, custom attributes with xhtml, early adoption of html5 and its data- attribute. Now, I'm looking for some tangible material that goes in depth with these concepts.

  • Visual Studio Web Testing - Are there any good books/videos available?

    - by JP
Hello, I am trying to find a good resource on web and load testing. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 ultimate and, while i'm sure it is too early for much material to be released, i'm hoping there are some good resources for Visual Studio 2008 that are still relevant. While MSDN has some good information I'm looking for something more cohesive that i can view on my way to/from work - hence a book or a video Thanks in advance, JP
