  • Javascript AJAX function returns undefined instead of true / false

    - by Josh K
    I have a function that issues an AJAX call (via jQuery). In the complete section I have a function that says: complete: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus) { if(textStatus == "success") { return(true); } else { return(false); } } However, if I call this like so: if(callajax()) { // Do something } else { // Something else } The first is never called. If I put an alert(textStatus) in the complete function I get true, but not before that function returns undefined.

  • ASP.NET MVC pass information from controller to view WITHOUT ViewData, ViewModel, or Session

    - by josh
    I have a unique scenario where I want a base controller to grab some data and store it in a list. The list should be accessible from my views just as ViewData is. I will be using this list on every page and would like a cleaner solution than just shoving it in the ViewDataDictionary. After attempting to come up with a solution, I thought I would create a custom ViewPage with a property to hold my list. My custom ViewPage would inherit from System.Web.MVC.ViewPage. However, I do not know where MVC passes the viewdata from the controller off to the view. More importantly, how do I get it to pass my list down to the view? Thanks for the help.

  • MSI Installer start auto-repair when service starts

    - by Josh Clark
    I have a WiX based MSI that installs a service and some shortcuts (and lots of other files that don't). The shortcut is created as described in the WiX docs with a registry key under HKCU as the key file. This is an all users install, but to get past ICE38, this registry key has to be under the current user. When the service starts (it runs under the SYSTEM account) it notices that that registry key isn't valid (at least of that user) and runs the install again to "repair". In the Event Log I get MsiInstaller Events 1001 and 1004 showing that "The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MyInstaller\Foo' does not exist." This isn't surprising since the SYSTEM user wouldn't have this key. I turned on system wide MSI logging and the auto-repair created its log file in the C:\Windows\Temp folder rather than a specific user's TEMP folder which seems to imply the current user was SYSTEM (plus the log file shows the "Calling process" to be my service). Is there something I can do to disable the auto-repair functionality? Am I doing something wrong or breaking some MSI rule? Any hints on where to look next?

  • UIView Animation Inconsistent Result

    - by Josh Kahane
    I am trying to make use of UIView animation to slide my views across the screen. I have a UIScrollView in my view controller, in which I have my UIViews. I alos have this method: -(void)translateView:(UIView *)view toRect:(CGRect)rect withDuration:(CGFloat)duration { [UIView animateWithDuration:duration animations:^ { view.frame = rect; } completion:^(BOOL finished) { //Finished }]; } I call this to move my UIView in an animated fashion to a CGRect of my choice over a certain time. I have a loop which creates and slides out 7 views. This works great, I call it like below, the loop of course calling this 7 times on different views: [self translateView:cell toRect:translationRect withDuration:0.7]; However, I can't then call this again immediately afterwards, just nothing happens. Although, lets say I call this again after a 2 second NSTimer, the animation does run, but then when i scroll my UIScrollView, the view I just animated jumps back to its previous CGRect. Hope you can help, its all feeling very un-explanetory, Ill post more code if it isn't making any sense, thanks.

  • Hot python input loop

    - by Josh K
    I'd like to have something similar to the following pseudo code: while input is not None and timer < 5: input = getChar() timer = time.time() - start if timer >= 5: print "took too long" else: print input Anyway to do this without threading? I would like an input method that returns whatever has been entered since the last time it was called, or None (null) if nothing was entered.

  • Read OAuth2.0 Signed_Request Facebook Registration C# MVC

    - by Josh
    My question is very similar this but I guess I need to take it one step further. Facebook says "The data is passed to your application as a signed request. The signed_request parameter is a simple way to make sure that the data you're receiving is the actual data sent by Facebook." After a user has logged into my asp c# MVC site and clicked "Register", the redirect-url is http://site/account/register. At that point (the post to the account/register control), I would like to gather the user's information using the signed request so that I can register them with my site locally. I cannot figure out how to access the data facebook makes available. $data = json_decode(base64_url_decode($payload), true); What is the equivalent in C#? What type of variable/data is facebook passing in the post? And how do I access "$payload"?

  • Display an Image using C# in Web Application

    - by Josh
    Hello again, I have a Web Application that I built a C# class in that generates a Report. This report takes nearly 40 seconds to generate because it searches hundreds of folders for certain files. So I was hoping there was a way to display a "Loading.." icon as this report is generating. I have a gif stored in my Images folder that would be perfect. The research that I've done at this point mostly talks about picturebox's and image controls that can hold the image but I was hoping there was just a way of displaying the image above the report while its being created. The Web Application is from a Web ADF Geocortex website and again I created a C# class that generates this report. Below is some code that may help. /// <summary> /// Generates HTML for the current report using the data in /// the given table. /// </summary> /// <param name="reportLayers">The layers to include in the report.</param> /// <returns> public override string GenerateReportHtml(List<ReportLayer> reportLayers) { StringBuilder htmlString = new StringBuilder(); StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter(htmlString); HtmlTextWriter writer = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWriter); string holdAPI = ""; List<string> exclusions = GetExcludedFields(); foreach (ReportLayer layer in reportLayers) { string[] strFiles = null; Boolean val = false; if (layer.Layer.Name == "Bottom Hole Location (OP)") writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.P); // <p> writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Strong); // <strong> writer.Write(layer.Layer.Name); writer.RenderEndTag(); // end </strong> writer.RenderEndTag(); // end </p> writer.WriteBreak(); // <br /> foreach (ReportFeature feature in layer.ReportFeatures) { // each feature will be in a table writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Table); // <table> foreach (ReportField field in feature.ReportFields) { string fieldName = field.Alias; if (!exclusions.Contains(fieldName)) {

  • jQuery click event to make a div slide down and push next div out of viewport

    - by Josh
    I'm trying to figure out how to make jQuery slide #content2 down and replace content1 with it while making it look like #content1 is actually being pushed down by #content1 removing it from view... Then the same button that was clicked to make #content2 replace #content1 would also need to do the reverse effect by replacing #content2 with #content1 making them slide up and push each other out of the way... I'm not all that great with jQuery so I'm sure I've gone about this the wrong way, but here's what I've tried: $(document).ready(function() { $('#click').click(function() { if($('#content1').is(':visible')) { $('#content1').slideUp(); } else { $('#content2').slideDown(); } }).click(function() { if($('#content1').is(':visible')) { $('#content2').slideDown(); } else { $('#content1').slideUp(); } }); });

  • Why is this bookmarklet code saying jQuery is not defined even though jQuery is included?

    - by Josh Brown
    I am creating a bookmarklet and the code below is not working on first try. When I goto a page, it says "jQuery is not defined". But, if I click it again, it works perfectly? var qrcodetogo = { jQURL: 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js', jQUIURL: 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/jquery-ui.min.js', jQUIThemeURL: 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.1/themes/ui-lightness/jquery-ui.css', init: function(){ this.createLink('qrcodetogo_UI-Lightness', this.jQUIThemeURL); this.createScript('qrcodetogo_jQuery', this.jQURL); this.createScript('qrcodetogo_jQueryUI', this.jQUIURL); this.createHiddenDiv('qrcodetogo_dialog','This is a Test.'); jQuery.noConflict(); }, showQRCode: function() { jQuery('#qrcodetogo_dialog').dialog(); }, createLink: function(id, url) { var l = document.createElement('link'); l.href = url; l.rel = 'stylesheet'; l.type = 'text/css'; l.media = 'screen'; l.charset = 'utf-8'; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(l); }, createScript: function(id, url) { var s = document.createElement('script'); s.src = url; s.id = id; document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s); }, createHiddenDiv: function(id, body) { var div = document.createElement('div'); div.id = id; div.innerHTML = body; div.style.display = 'none'; document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(div) } } qrcodetogo.init(); qrcodetogo.showQRCode();

  • Does a System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement.Principal ever have a null GUID?

    - by Josh
    I have a situation where I need to store a globally unique identifier that points to an Active Directory user account. I'm leaning towards the Guid because it is easier to store than the Sid. According to the MSDN entry, the property (which is a Nullable), will always return null if the ContextType is set to "Machine." I don't need to worry about this because our ContextType will always be set to "Domain." My question is, will this property ever return null if the ContextType is "Domain"? In other words, will an account in an AD DS store always have a Guid?

  • Implementing IXmlSerializable on a generated class that has XmlTypeAttribute

    - by Josh
    Basically, the initial problem is I need to make a boolean value serialize as 0 or 1. The solution I found was to implement IXmlSerializable, which I did. Unfortunately the class I'm trying to serialize is generated code off a schema and has an XmlTypeAttribute on it. When I try to (de)serialize the object with the XmlSerializer created in the usual manner ( new XmlSerializer(type)) it throws this exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Only XmlRoot attribute may be specified for the type ______ Please use XmlSchemaProviderAttribute to specify schema type. Two options come to mind immediatly: 1) remove the attribute in the generated code. This change would have to be made every time the code was re-generated. 2) Use an XmlAttributeOverrides object when creating the serializer to remove the attribute. This would require the rest of the code base to "know" that it needs to override that attribute. Also, the exception thrown gives absolutly no clue as to what needs to be done to fix it. Both options kinda stink. Is there a third option?

  • Why is ARG_MAX not defined via limits.h?

    - by Josh Matthews
    On Fedora Core 7, I'm writing some code that relies on ARG_MAX. However, even if I #include <limits.h>, the constant is still not defined. My investigations show that it's present in <sys/linux/limits.h>, but this is supposed to be portable across Win32/Mac/Linux, so directly including it isn't an option. What's going on here?

  • How to determine which side of a 3D plane is showing?

    - by Josh Santangelo
    This is a 3d n00b question. I'm working on a WPF control which implements the basics of Silverlight's PerspectiveTransform feature, allowing a 2D plane to be rotated on any of the three axes. It works pretty well. However I'm a little stuck on the math required to determine whether or not the back of the plane is showing. My naive code for figuring that out now is: bool isBackShowing = Math.Abs(RotationX) > 90 && Math.Abs(RotationY) < 90; if (!isBackShowing) { isBackShowing = Math.Abs(RotationX) < 90 && Math.Abs(RotationY) > 90; } However, this fails when the rotation is between +-270 and +-360 on either axis. The underlying transform is using a Quaternion object to do the actual rotation, and that has nice Axis and Angle properties, so I'm guessing I could just use that if I knew how.

  • ExpertPDF and Caching of URLs

    - by Josh
    We are using ExpertPDF to take URLs and turn them into PDFs. Everything we do is through memory, so we build up the request and then read the stream into ExpertPDF and then write the bits to file. All the files we have been requesting so far are just plain HTML documents. Our designers update CSS files or change the HTML and rerequest the documents as PDFs, but often times, things are getting cached. Take, for example, if I rename the only CSS file and view the HTML page through a web browser, the page looks broke because the CSS doesn't exist. But if I request that page through the PDF Generator, it still looks ok, which means somewhere the CSS is cached. Here's the relevant PDF creation code: // Create a request HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(url); request.UserAgent = "IE 8.0"; request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.Method = "GET"; // Send the request HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); if (resp.IsFromCache) { System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Trace.Write("FROM THE CACHE!!!"); } else { System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Trace.Write("not from cache"); } // Read the response pdf.SavePdfFromHtmlStream(resp.GetResponseStream(), System.Text.Encoding.UTF8, "Output.pdf"); When I check the trace file, nothing is being loaded from cache. I checked the IIS log file and found a 200 response coming from the request, even after a file had been updated (I would expect a 302). We've tried putting the No-Cache attribute on all HTML pages, but still no luck. I even turned off all caching at the IIS level. Is there anything in ExpertPDF that might be caching somewhere or something I can do to the request object to do a hard refresh of all resources? UPDATE I put ?foo at the end of my style href links and this updates the CSS everytime. Is there a setting someplace that can prevent stylesheets from being cached so I don't have to do this inelegant solution?

  • Can I improve this regex check for valid domain names?

    - by Josh
    So, I have been working on this domain name regular expression. So far, it seems to pick up domain names with SLDs and TLDs (with the optional ccTLD), but there is duplication of the TLD listing. Can this be refactored any further? params[:domain_name].downcase.strip.match(/^[a-z0-9\-]{2,63} \.((a[cdefgilmnoqrstuwxz]|aero|arpa)|(b[abdefghijmnorstvwyz]|biz)| (c[acdfghiklmnorsuvxyz]|cat|com|coop)|d[ejkmoz]|(e[ceghrstu]|edu)|f[ijkmor]| (g[abdefghilmnpqrstuwy]|gov)|h[kmnrtu]|(i[delmnoqrst]|info|int)| (j[emop]|jobs)|k[eghimnprwyz]|l[abcikrstuvy]| (m[acdghklmnopqrstuvwxyz]|me|mil|mobi|museum)|(n[acefgilopruz]|name|net)|(om|org)| (p[aefghklmnrstwy]|pro)|qa|r[eouw]|s[abcdeghijklmnortvyz]| (t[cdfghjklmnoprtvwz]|travel)|u[agkmsyz]|v[aceginu]|w[fs]|y[etu]|z[amw]) (\.((a[cdefgilmnoqrstuwxz]|aero|arpa)|(b[abdefghijmnorstvwyz]|biz)| (c[acdfghiklmnorsuvxyz]|cat|com|coop)|d[ejkmoz]|(e[ceghrstu]|edu)|f[ijkmor]| (g[abdefghilmnpqrstuwy]|gov)|h[kmnrtu]|(i[delmnoqrst]|info|int)| (j[emop]|jobs)|k[eghimnprwyz]|l[abcikrstuvy]| m[acdghklmnopqrstuvwxyz]|mil|mobi|museum)| (n[acefgilopruz]|name|net)|(om|org)| (p[aefghklmnrstwy]|pro)|qa|r[eouw]|s[abcdeghijklmnortvyz]| (t[cdfghjklmnoprtvwz]|travel)|u[agkmsyz]|v[aceginu]|w[fs]|y[etu]|z[amw]))?$/)

  • Close Flash Player from FlashDevelop IDE

    - by Josh Mohan
    Whenever I compile my project using FlashDevelop in 'Debug' the Flash Player window remains after I have clicked the 'Stop' button in Flash Develop. I have to then switch over to the flash player, click through any error messages and then close the player, which wastes a lot of time in the long run. Any way to make it so Flash Player closes when I click 'Stop' in the Flash Develop debug tools? EDIT: My setup is a fresh install of Windows 7, a new copy of Flash Develop 4 and Flash Player 10. Thanks! J

  • Why hasn't MSSQL made a WHERE clause mandatory by default?

    - by Josh Einstein
    It seems like a no brainer to me. I've heard countless stories about people forgetting the WHERE clause in an UPDATE or DELETE and trashing an entire table. I know that careless people shouldn't be issuing queries directly and all that... and that there are legitimate cases where you want to affect all rows, but wouldn't it make sense to have an option on by default that requires such queries to be written like: UPDATE MyTable SET MyColumn = 0 WHERE * Or without changing the language, UPDATE MyTable SET MyColumn = 0 WHERE 1 = 1 -- tacky, I know

  • Advantages/disadvantages of browser-based interface vs. graphics

    - by Josh
    Hello everyone, I'm in the design phase for a desktop-based application. Because of the nature of this particular application, I believe it would benefit greatly from a web-based approach (i.e., allowing a user to interface with the application through a browser running in kiosk mode) in order to leverage the simplicity of HTML/CSS/JS and the availability of many great JS interface plugins. Does taking this approach (rather than coding in a native or cross-platform graphics library) come with any gotchas?

  • How to obtain a pointer out of a C++ vtable?

    - by Josh Haberman
    Say you have a C++ class like: class Foo { public: virtual ~Foo() {} virtual DoSomething() = 0; }; The C++ compiler translates a call into a vtable lookup: Foo* foo; // Translated by C++ to: // foo->vtable->DoSomething(foo); foo->DoSomething(); Suppose I was writing a JIT compiler and I wanted to obtain the address of the DoSomething() function for a particular instance of class Foo, so I can generate code that jumps to it directly instead of doing a table lookup and an indirect branch. My questions are: Is there any standard C++ way to do this (I'm almost sure the answer is no, but wanted to ask for the sake of completeness). Is there any remotely compiler-independent way of doing this, like a library someone has implemented that provides an API for accessing a vtable? I'm open to completely hacks, if they will work. For example, if I created my own derived class and could determine the address of its DoSomething method, I could assume that the vtable is the first (hidden) member of Foo and search through its vtable until I find my pointer value. However, I don't know a way of getting this address: if I write &DerivedFoo::DoSomething I get a pointer-to-member, which is something totally different. Maybe I could turn the pointer-to-member into the vtable offset. When I compile the following: class Foo { public: virtual ~Foo() {} virtual void DoSomething() = 0; }; void foo(Foo *f, void (Foo::*member)()) { (f->*member)(); } On GCC/x86-64, I get this assembly output: Disassembly of section .text: 0000000000000000 <_Z3fooP3FooMS_FvvE>: 0: 40 f6 c6 01 test sil,0x1 4: 48 89 74 24 e8 mov QWORD PTR [rsp-0x18],rsi 9: 48 89 54 24 f0 mov QWORD PTR [rsp-0x10],rdx e: 74 10 je 20 <_Z3fooP3FooMS_FvvE+0x20> 10: 48 01 d7 add rdi,rdx 13: 48 8b 07 mov rax,QWORD PTR [rdi] 16: 48 8b 74 30 ff mov rsi,QWORD PTR [rax+rsi*1-0x1] 1b: ff e6 jmp rsi 1d: 0f 1f 00 nop DWORD PTR [rax] 20: 48 01 d7 add rdi,rdx 23: ff e6 jmp rsi I don't fully understand what's going on here, but if I could reverse-engineer this or use an ABI spec I could generate a fragment like the above for each separate platform, as a way of obtaining a pointer out of a vtable.
