• Python: How do I create a reference to a reference?

  Hi, I am traditionally a Perl and C++ programmer, so apologies in advance if I am misunderstanding something trivial about Python! I would like to create a reference to a reference. Huh? Ok. All objects in Python are actually references to the real object. So, how do I create a reference to this reference? Why do I need/want this? I am overriding sys.stdout and sys.stderr to create a logging library. I would like a (second-level) reference to sys.stdout. If I could create a reference to a reference, then I could create a generic logger class where the init function receives a reference to a file handle reference that will be overrided, e.g., sys.stdout or sys.stderr.   Hi All, I'm trying to call a function in JavaScript via Java. This works fine when directly reading a script as a string but I'm using CompiledScripts. When I do this with a compiled script it gives me method not found if I also add bindings. Without bindings it works but of course the function fails because it needs the bindings. Any ideas? • Output to jTextArea in realtime

  I have some code which takes a few minutes to process, it has to connect to the web for each string in a long array, each string is a url. • Is it possible to temporarily disable Python's string interpolation?

  I have a python logger set up, using python's logging module. I want to store the string I'm using with the logging Formatter object in a configuration file using the ConfigParser module. The format string is stored in a dictionary of settings in a separate file that handles the reading and writing of the config file. The problem I have is that python still tries to format the file and falls over when it reads all the logging-module-specific formatting flags. { "log_level":logging.debug, "log_name":"C:\\Temp\\logfile.log", "format_string": "%(asctime)s %(levelname)s: %(module)s, line %(lineno)d - %(message)s" } My question is simple: how can I disable the formatting functionality here while keeping it elsewhere. My initial reaction was copious use of the backslash to escape the various percent symbols, but that of course permanently breaks the formatting such that it wont work even when I need it to. Also, general pointers on good settings-file practices would be nice. This is the first time I've done anything significant with ConfigParser (or logging for that matter). Thanks in advance, Dominic

  I need to change the log format of my rails app. I put this file in lib directory and required it in development.rb env file. require 'hodel_3000_compliant_logger' config.logger = Hodel3000CompliantLogger.new(config.log_path) and I should get the output of the development.log file as follows: Jun 28 03:05:13 millisami-notebook rails[18243]: Memory usage: 86888 | PID: 18243 I get this exact log when I start my app with script/server (Mongrel). But when I run the app via Passenger, the format being logged is Rails' default. Why doesn't Passenger write to the log file like Mongrel does?

  I have yet to find a way of setting up Python logging with Django that I'm happy with. My requirements are fairly simple: Different log handlers for different events - that is, I want to be able to log to different files Easy access to loggers in my modules. The module should be able to find its logger with little effort. Should be easily applicable to command-line modules. Parts of the system are stand-alone command line or daemon processes. Logging should be easily usable with these modules. My current setup is to use a logging.conf file and setup logging in each module I log from. It doesn't feel right. Do you have a logging setup that you like? Please detail it: how do you setup the configuration (do you use logging.conf or set it up in code), where/when do you initiate the loggers, and how do you get access to them in your modules, etc.

• Kohana 3 and CRON always accessing index.php (not following the URI argument)

  OK, I hope this is my last question about CRON jobs and Kohana 3. Note: others are not duplicates, just other problems. Here is my CRON job (setup in cPanel) php /home/user/public_html/index.php --uri=properties/update As per this answer. I have set it up so it emails me the output. It is running every 5 mins. Unfortunately, it always emails me the source of the home page of my site (index.php or /). I can access that URL fine in my browser, i.e. http://www.example.com/properties/update and it works and does it's job correctly. I can tell the Cron is never hitting the script because I have a file logger in place. Would this have anything to do with .htaccess? Has this happened to anyone before, and how did they fix it?   What is the recommended way to log application-specific messages in web2py? I found the documentation on HTTP logging, but I'm thinking more of messages for debugging and tracking. Should I simply use the logging module in each separate controller file? Is there a central place in which I could initialize a logger that can be shared between controllers? Or, is something built-in to web2py that I should use? Update: It looks like I can't even fully use the logging module in web2py. It looks like web2py ships with it's own version of the python libraries (in library.zip), which I'm not a big fan of. Is that by design? I'm guessing there will be issues with simply adding my installed Python libraries to the sys.path at run-time, so what should I do?

The context for my question should not be important, but I'll share anyway: I'm thinking of making a logger (or log-wrapper) that always knows what "log source" to target, regardless of whether the assemblies using it are in one appdomain, or spread across several appdomains. I think one way to achieve that, is to have a domain-neutral assembly with a static "LogSource" property. If that static property is set in a domain-neutral assembly, I think all appdomains will see it.

  So I have made a stripe payment option in my app. When I click the button pay now, it shows me that the payment is successful. and when I go to my stripe account and go to stripe-test and check logs, I can see my test payment with the code 200 OK. But this payment doesn't show in stripe-test events, or in stripe-test payments. • Should I catch exceptions thrown when closing java.sql.Connection

  Connection.close() may throw SqlException, but I have always assumed that it is safe to ignore any such exceptions (and I have never seen code that does not ignore them). Normally I would write: try{ connection.close(); }catch(Exception e) {} Or try{ connection.close(); }catch(Exception e) { logger.log(e.getMessage(), e); } The question is: Is it bad practice (and has anyone had problems when ignoring such exeptions). When Connection.close() does throw any exception. If it is bad how should I handle the exception. Comment: I know that discarding exceptions is evil, but I'm reffering only to exceptions thrown when closing a connection (and as I've seen this is fairly common in this case). Does anyone know when Connection.close() may throw anything?

• While Loop Taking Alot of CPU Usage

  I am creating a keystroke logger for my personal interest, as well wanting to know how to capture and use them as functions (like key shortcuts). I got the code to learn how keylogger and GetAsyncKeyState() work: http://www.rohitab.com/discuss/index.php?showtopic=9931 I got it to run under Code::Blocks, but the weirdest things is that when I check my task manager, my CPU Usage rises to 100%. When I close the program, it goes back down, and goes back up to 100 when I turn it back on. I presume it's because of the infinite while loop, constantly checking for inputs, but I wanna know if there's anyway to decrease the CPU usage, without losing function. P.S How would I make a key shortcut? Like press (Ctrl + E) to make the program exit?
