• How to improve performance of map that loads new overlay images

  I have inherited a website to maintain that uses a html map overlaying a real map to link specific countries to specific pages. previously it loaded the default map image, then with some javascript it would change the image src to an image with that particular country in a different colour on mouseover and reset the image source back to the original image on mouse out to make maintenance (adding new countries) easier i made the initial map a background image by utilising some CSS for the div tag, and then created new images for each country which only had that countries hightlight so that the images remain fairly small. this works great but theres one issue which is particularly noticeable on slower internet connections when you hover over a country if you dont have the image file in your browser cache or downloaded it wont load the image unless you hover over another country and then back onto the first country - i guess this is due to the image having to manually be downloaded on first hover. My question: is it possible to force the load of these extra images AFTER the page and all the other assets have finished loading so that this behaviour is all but eliminated? the html code for the MAP is as follows: <div class="gtmap"><img id="Image-Maps_6200909211657061" src="<?php echo cdnhttpsCheck(); • Objective C loop logic

  Hi guys, I'm really new to programming in Obj-C, my background is in labview which is a graphical programming language, I've worked with Visual Basic some and HTML/CSS a fair amount as well. I'm trying to figure out the logic to create an array of data for the pattern below. I need the pattern later to extract data from another 2 arrays in a specific order. I can do it by referencing a = 1, b = 2, c = 3 etc and then creating the array with a, b, c but I want to use a loop so that I don't have 8 references above the array. These references will be used to generate another generation of data so unless I can get help figuring out the logic I'll actually end up with 72 references above the array. // This is the first one which gives the pattern 0 0 0 0 (etc) // 1 1 1 1 // 2 2 2 2 NSMutableArray * expSecondRef_one = [NSMutableArray array]; int a1 = 0; while (a1 < 9) { int a2 = 0; while (a2 < 8) { NSNumber * a3 = [NSNumber numberWithInt:a1]; [expSecondRef_one addObject:a3]; a2++; } a1++; } // This is the second one which I'm stumbling over, I am looking for the pattern 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 // 0 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 // 0 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 // 0 1 2 4 5 6 7 8 // etc to -> // 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 If you run it in a line every 9th number is -1 but I don't know how to do that over a pattern of 8. Everything works fine except the correct texture mapping (importing the resource/image into opengl etc works fine). I don't know how to populate the texture related data from the obj-file into an texturebuffer-object. • WYSIWYG with Qt - font size woes

  I am creating a custom Qt widget that mimics an A4 printed page and am having problems getting fonts to render at the correct size. My widget uses QPainter::setViewport and QPainter::setWindow to mimic the A4 page, using units of 10ths of a millimetre which enables me to draw easily. However, attempting to create a font at a specific point size doesn't seem to work and using QFont:setPixelSize isn't accurate. Does anyone else know how to use font sizes in points when using custom mapping modes like this? It must be possible. Note that I cannot see how to convert between logical/device points either (i.e. the Win32 DPtoLP/LPtoDP equivalents.)

I suspected that the problem is due to Node.js update (Opa = 1.1.1 requires Node 0.10.* - now I am using 0.10.12, but I also tried other 0.10-s), but "Hello world" from the Node's from page works fine. I am running the app on OSX developer box and Linux Debian 7.0 server. Any suggestions what am I doing wrong? PS. I was off the business for a while. Anyone knows what happened to the Opa forum? Signing is seams not to work.

After creating that i'm trying to open that file and read contents and process them,, but i end up file could not read error..   I have a table with 200 rows. I'm running a cron job every 10 minutes to perform some kind of insert/update operation on the table. The operation needs to be performed only on 5 rows at a time every time the cron job runs. So in first 10 mins records 1-5 are updated, records 5-10 in the 20th minute and so on. When the cron job runs for the 20th time, all the records in the table would have been updated exactly once. This is what is to be achieved at least. And the next cron job should repeat the process again. The problem: is that, every time a cron job runs, the insert/update operation should be performed on N rows (not just 5 rows). So, if N is 100, all records would've been updated by just 2 cron jobs. And the next cron job would repeat the process again. Here's an example: This is the table I currently have (200 records).   I have an array in PHP as a result of the following query to a Wordpress database: SELECT * FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id = :id I am returned a multidimensional array that looks like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [meta_id] => 380 [post_id] => 72 [meta_key] => _edit_last [meta_value] => 1 ) ... etc. What is the best way to find a particular key-value pair in this array? For instance, how would I located the row where [meta_key] = event_name so that I can extract that same row's [meta_value] value into a PHP variable? I realize I could turn this into many individual MySQL queries. Does anyone have an opinion of the efficiency of doing 10 SQL queries in a row rather than searching the array 10 times? I would think since the array is in memory, that will be the fastest method to find the values I need. Alternatively, is there a better way to query the database from the beginning so that my result set is formatted in a way that is easier to search?

  I am trying to write a simple MATLAB program that will find the first chain (more than 70) of consecutive nonzero values and return the starting value of that consecutive chain. I am working with movement data from a joystick and there are a few thousand rows of data with a mix of zeros and nonzero values before the actual trial begins (coming from subjects slightly moving the joystick before the trial actually started). I need to get rid of these rows before I can start analyzing the movement from the trials. I am sure this is a relatively simple thing to do so I was hoping someone could offer insight. Thank you in advance -Lilly EDIT: Here's what I tried: s = zeros(size(x1)); for i=2:length(x1) if(x1(i-1) ~= 0) s(i) = 1 + s(i-1); end end display(S); for a vector x1 which has a max chain of 72 but I dont know how to find the max chain and return its first value, so I know where to trim. I also really don't think this is the best strategy, since the max chain in my data will be tens of thousands of values. Thanks for helping me edit, Steve. :)

• Parallelize or vectorize all-against-all operation on a large number of matrices?

  I have approximately 5,000 matrices with the same number of rows and varying numbers of columns (20 x ~200). Each of these matrices must be compared against every other in a dynamic programming algorithm. In this question, I asked how to perform the comparison quickly and was given an excellent answer involving a 2D convolution. Serially, iteratively applying that method, like so list = who('data_matrix_prefix*') H = cell(numel(list),numel(list)); for i=1:numel(list) for j=1:numel(list) if i ~= j eval([ 'H{i,j} = compare(' char(list(i)) ',' char(list(j)) ');']); end end end is fast for small subsets of the data (e.g. for 9 matrices, 9*9 - 9 = 72 calls are made in ~1 s). However, operating on all the data requires almost 25 million calls. I have also tried using deal() to make a cell array composed entirely of the next element in data, so I could use cellfun() in a single loop: # who(), load() and struct2cell() calls place k data matrices in a 1D cell array called data. nextData = cell(k,1); for i=1:k [nextData{:}] = deal(data{i}); H{:,i} = cellfun(@compare,data,nextData,'UniformOutput',false); end Unfortunately, this is not really any faster, because all the time is in compare(). Both of these code examples seem ill-suited for parallelization. I'm having trouble figuring out how to make my variables sliced. compare() is totally vectorized; it uses matrix multiplication and conv2() exclusively (I am under the impression that all of these operations, including the cellfun(), should be multithreaded in MATLAB?). Does anyone see a (explicitly) parallelized solution or better vectorization of the problem?

The reason is, I have a function that supposed to get the settings of an entity, and merge them with the global defaults. //So for example, let's say globalOptions is something like this var globalOptions={opt1:'foo',opt2:'something'}; //and this is entityOptions var entityOptions={opt1:'foofoo',opt2:null}; The only difference is it has objects in objects and objects in objects in objects, so what I made was a function that loops through all objects, thinking I would later, easily be able to loop through it all. Here's the situation: Touch: * iPhone 3G/S ~ 160 dpi * iPhone 4 ~ 300 dpi * iPad ~ 126 dpi * Android device @ 480p ~ 200 dpi Point / click: * Laptop @ 720p ~ 96 dpi * Desktop @ 720p ~ 72 dpi There is certainly a clear distinction between desktop and mobile so having two separate front-ends to the same app is logical, especially when considering one is "touch"-based and the other is "point/click"-based. The challenge lies in designing static graphical elements that will scale between, say, 160 dpi and 300+ dpi, and get consistent and clean design across zoom levels. Any thoughts on how to approach this? Here are some scenarios, but each has drawbacks as well: * Design a single set of assets (high resolution), then adjust zoom levels based on detected resolution / device o Drawbacks: Performance caused by code layering, varying device support of Zoom * Develop & optimize multiple variations of image and CSS assets, then hide / show each based on device o Drawbacks: Extra work in design & QA. Anyone have thoughts or experience on how to deal with this? We should certainly be looking at methods that use / support HTML5 and CSS3.
