    I'm trying to give myself permissions to /var/www/ however for some reason I am unable to do so.     i have installed rkhunter on ubuntu 10.04 LTS when i try to test rkhunter report it doesn't send email to my external root email recipient. i can send email only editing /etc/default/rkhunter by replacing this row REPORT_EMAIL="root" with the desired recipient REPORT_EMAIL="[email protected]" These are my config file settings: /root/.forward [email protected] and /etc/aliases root: [email protected] But it doesn't work with root recipient. Any suggestion?

    We have a small project we are working on part-time that runs on Nginx/MongoDB on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server. We'd like to be able to see reports on things like server load, requests/sec, response time, DB load, DB response time, etc. Is there an open source or free (as in beer) tool that can parse such logs and provide a real-time report? I looked into Splunk briefly, but I wanted to see if there are any others that are highly recommended.

    I have Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS with Firefox 3.6.3. Unfortunately it is super easy to accidentally click Add To Dictionary on a word you do not want added into one's personal dictionary used in Firefox. How do I remove the word 'intsead' out of it? I tried some tutorials on the web that said to find ~/.mozilla/*.default/persdict.dat, but I could not see one. As well, others have complained that this file no longer exists in Firefox 3.

    I have a dual core Intel i5 Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS system running kernel 2.6.32-22-server #33-Ubuntu SMP with three 1TB SATA hard drives set up in a RAID5 array using linux md devices. I have read about the RAID5 write hole and am concerned: if my linux system locks up or kernel panics, should I be assume that the integrety of my data has been compromised and restore from backup? How can I know if the data on the RAID5 array is "safe"?

  • Apache - slow response

    Hi, I have a Ubuntu 64-bit 10.04 LTS box running Virtualmin and Apache2, fully updated. It's an ESX VM with 2GB RAM. There are currently two sites (one CMS and one Wordpress 3) running on the server and both have the same issue. The request takes about 5s and then the page loads. This behaving seems to be the case with all page loads. I'm looking for advice on where to start troubleshooting. Thanks, Sean

    Hey, Is anyone running Zend Server under Daemontools? I know I can use -D NO_DETACH to run apache under daemontools. But, I'm not sure if the other Zend Server components (monitor, lighthttpd, scd, jobqueue) have similar options. (The end goal is "run Zend Server with service supervision", so upstart would be fine too. For reference, my servers are running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.) Ben

    Getting a kernel panic with this error on my XEN VPS's. (all on 8.04 LTS) The kernel version on my Dom-0 is 2.6.24-25-xen and the kernel version on the Xen VPS is also 2.6.24-25-xen. I read something about disabling APIC from here http://muffinresearch.co.uk/archives/2008/08/20/ubuntu-bug-soft-lockup-cpu0-stuck-for-11s/ but that doesn't seem to help as well. Anyone experienced this and are there any workarounds? Thanks in advance!

    A Linux server running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LAMP has a strange behaviour since last week: - cpu %sys higher than before, nearly equal %usr (before that, %sys just little compare with %usr) - IO reduce by half or 1/3 compare with the week before I try to diagnostic the process/cpu by some command (top/vmstat/mpstat/sar), and see that maybe it's a bit high on interrupt timer/resched. I don't know what that means, now open to any suggestion.

I can access my other NTFS partitions directly in Ubuntu without any problem. But lately I just figured that I could not see my J: partition (where I installed Wubi) in my Ubuntu.     I'm curious if it is possible to mount a partition encrypted by cryptsetup with LUKS securely and automatically on Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS. For example, if I use the key for the encrypted partition, than that key has to be presented on a device that is not encrypted and if someone steals my disk they'll be able to find the key and decrypt the partition. Is there any safe way to mount an encrypted partition? If not, does anything exist to do what I want?

    I have a urgent problem to solve today, but I'm lost. Please help. I've cloned a Virtual Machine hosted on VM Ware ESXi 4.1 The OS is now Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS, but at the time of cloning it was 10.04 LTS. I fixed the MAC address manually inside /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. It is a known problem on Ubuntu. I had to remove the old MAC address and set the new one as eth0. Everything seems to work fine, except ARP. My provider OVH sent me a warning to resolve it today (this is the second day) or they will block my IP! The log contains many lines like this: Tue Jun 5 01:04:29 2012 : arp who-has 178.32.136.212 tell 178.32.136.224 where .224 is the cloned server that is causing problems, and .212 is the cloned one. arp -na returns: ? (178.33.230.254) at 00:07:b4:00:00:02 [ether] on eth0 ? (178.32.136.212) at 00:50:56:09:8e:f1 [ether] on eth0 The first IP is the ESXi machine. The second one should not be there. I'm not an expert and I don't know what else to do to fix this problem. Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks.
