  • Server 2012 R2 DNS Conditional forwarding not working reliably, possible caching issue?

    I have a bit of a home lab setup with a domain controller that is acting as the DNS server for my network. For everything, it's working fine and forwards external DNS requests to my ISP. The household recently wanted to get Netflix going and it seemed a DNS option was better than a VPN to get around the region locking, so I signed up for unblock-us.com Since I have a Windows DNS server I thought I'd be clever and make use of conditional forwarders and added the Netflix domain to the list. Initially this worked well and all devices on the network could now access Netflix, however after about an hour going to the Netflix site would result in a page cannot be found. Doing an nslookup of Netflix.com from my PC resulted in it not returning any IP addresses. As a test, I deleted the Netflix domain from the DNS servers cache and things started working again - devices could get to the site again however the same thing happens again after around half an hour to an hour. Have I missed something here that's causing it to stop working?

  • SSL connection error for only one site (of many) on server

    I have a server running many websites, each with SSL. One of the sites is now refusing connections over SSL. This was previously working and I'm looking for assistance in determining what has been changed. Here's the situation: http://site1.com/ - works https://site1.com/ - works http://site2.com/ - works https://site2.com/ - Doesn't work (but did previously) Both sites are on the same server (Win Server 2003 SP2 - IIS6) Both sites use certificates from the same authority and are both valid (according to IIS). As far as I can tell, both sites have certificates configured identically in IIS. (Checked by a manual/visual check of properties, side by side) Through use of OpenSSL I can see that there's a "ssl handshake failure" when trying to connect to site2 using https. What could be the cause of this? How can I investigate further? Without SSL connections being available to this site, users are unable to log in or register. :( disclaimer: I'm not a server admin and not responsible for the box. Yes, there are wider issues here but I need to get this working again first.

  • Making Active Directory changes atomic

    I've got a Windows 2003 Active Directory infrastructure, and there are times (such as when terminating an employee) that I want instantaneous propagation across both of my AD servers. Currently, I make the change in both places, which I suspect is unhealthy, but it's the only way I know to make sure that the account is disabled to every machine. Is there a better way? Do I have to wait for the normal propagation time for convergence, or is there a way to "force" it?

  • Is there a way for Windows 7 to show remaining disk space in the status bar?

    This is really driving me nuts. I do a lot of moving media files to and from USB drives, and I am constantly looking to the status bar to see how much remaining space I have on a drive. It's quick, and doesn't involve any clicking. At least, that's what I used to do using Windows XP. Is there a way to get the status bar in Windows 7 to behave in the same way? I saw in a Wikipedia article that some features have been removed from Windows 7, including these two that seem to be affecting me the most: The size of any selected item and free disk space are not shown on the status bar. When no items are selected in a folder, neither the details pane nor the status bar show the total size of files in the folder. Are there any plug-ins or registry tweaks that can be made to return this functionality? If not what is the quickest way to get the remaining space on a drive without having to click on something and leaving the directory you are working in?

  • Is it possible to manually install RDP client 6.1 for platforms that aren't directly supported?

    I have some clients that need RDP client 6.1 in order to utilize the new easy print driver. However, the installer doesn't allow it to install on several platforms such as Windows Home Server or Windows Server 2003 because they are not XP. The version check prevents it going further. I'm reasonably confident that it should actually run however and want to try it. Has anyone done this before? what I should really ask is... what files should I manually copy (backing up originals first)... just the exe or are there lots of dependant dll's that need upgrading too?

  • Exchange 2007 backup / restore

    To explain my situation I have a exchange 2007 server and I have recently upgraded to SP2 so that I can use windows server backup to take an "exchange aware" backup of the server. Is there an easy way of restoring this data onto a second server to which I have pre-installed server 2008 / exchange 2007 without upsetting my current exchange server set-up. Also is there a better way to do this, such as running one as a fall over should the primary exchange server develop a fault. I am still new to all this so please excuse any stupidity in my questions. Thanks in advance for any help and assistance

I can't do this using apache mod_rewrite and .htaccess is disabled. thanks.

  • Dnsmasq offering IP via DHCP, but nobody is accepting

    As clients connect the logs light up with DHCPDISCOVER(wlan0) and DHCPOFFER(wlan0) but the IPs being offered are not being accepted. Currently dnsmasq offers IPs on eth1 which works flawlessly.   • "sh: /usr/sbin/xenstored: not found" - But it's there?

    What would cause running the file /usr/sbin/xenstored to print sh: /usr/sbin/xenstored: not found However, the file /usr/sbin/xenstored is there and is not a symbolic link. Actually I should be running this as root. That prints a similarly odd message. sudo: unable to execute /usr/sbin/xenstored: No such file or directory By the way, xenstored is not a script, it's an ELF executable. My guess is that it's because I haven't gotten all the dependent libraries installed. However, I would expect it to say something like this: ./xenstored: error while loading shared libraries: libxenctrl.so.4.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Which is true of running xenstored on a system that doesn't have all the required libraries. Why do I get "not found" vs the much more useful "cannot open shared object file"?

  • Dump Microsoft SQL Server database to an SQL script

    Is there any way to export a Microsoft SQL Server database to an sql script? I'm looking for something which behaves similarly to mysqldump, taking a database name, and producing a single script which will recreate all the tables, stored procedures, reinsert all the data etc. I've seen http://vyaskn.tripod.com/code.htm#inserts, but I ideally want something to recreate everything (not just the data) which works in a single step to produce the final script.

  • VLC RTP Streaming in FC12

    I'm trying to get VLC to work streaming RTP audio/video over my office network. The goal is multicast a/v streaming. In all test cases, we are streaming from VLC to VLC. I am able to stream from Windows to Windows, and from Fedora to Windows, but not from Windows to Fedora. Additionally, I am unable to receive a LOCAL stream from one instance of VLC to another, within Fedora. I don't see any reason why this would be. The buffer indicator (where the elapsed/total time is normally displayed) never shows any connectivity, so it would appear to be a network problem, but since I am able to stream from Fedora to Windows (same IP, same port) I thought it would be something else. Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?

  • Trouble migrating Joomla from Linux to Windows server

    I'm having some trouble migrating a Joomla website from a Linux server to a Windows server. The database came over fine, Besides that, all I've done is download all the files from the current site, and change configuration.php so the log and tmp directories show "./tmp/" and "./logs/" I keep having an error in the PHP log stating PHP Fatal error: Class 'JTable' not found I've downloaded the site multiple times now, and I'm convinced this is a configuration problem, and not a missing file problem. I've even tried installing a mod for backup on the linux box to try and migrate the site, but sadly the mod had problems installing. The new server is running IIS 7.5 on Windows Web Server.   • How can I connect to my Airport Extreme Shared Disk using Windows?

    I have a shared disk attached to my Airport Extreme, which I can connect to remotely in OS X through the finder via command - k, and entering in the proper address: afp://test.dyndns.org:1111 1111 being the port I've reserved for the disk in the AE port mapping. This is such a great feature, but I don't always have access to a Mac. My question is how can I connect to this drive via Windows XP? Please note, that the shared drive is a Drobo FS and formatted to handle both Windows and Mac OS. I've tried mapping a network drive via My Computer - Tools - Map Network Drive and entering: \\test.dyndns.org:1111\Drobo-Name I've also tried Start - Run and entering the same, both with and without the port #.

    A friend forwarded a contact list to my gmail account from Outlook (2007 or 2010, not sure which). I can see there is an attachment in gmail but when I save it to my local drive it's just a plain text file containing the text This attachment is a MAPI 1.0 embedded message and is not supported by this mail system.   • Office 2007 Calendar Overlays - Combine meetings that everybody shares

    I want to display approximately 10 people's calendar in Outlook 2007 using overlays. The problem is that they all share the same meeting a couple of times a week. Thus, I see that show up 10 times on a single day, which compresses what is actually displayed. Since they are all at the same meeting(s), it would be nice to have them just display once. Is this built into Office 2007?

    I have Apache2 running on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. To begin securing network access to the machine, I want to start by blocking everything, then make specific allow statements for specific subnets to browse to sites hosted in Apache. The Ubuntu Server is installed with no packages selected during install, the only packages added after install are: apt-get update; apt-get install apache2, php5 (with additional php5-modules), openssh-server, mysql-client Following are my /etc/hosts.deny & /etc/hosts.allow settings: /etc/hosts.deny ALL:ALL /etc/hosts.allow has no allow entries at all. I would expect all network protocols to be denied. The symptom is that I can still web browse to sites hosted on the Apache web server even though there is a deny all statement in /etc/hosts.deny The system was rebooted after the deny entry was added. Why would /etc/hosts.deny with ALL:ALL be ignored and allow http browsing to sites hosted on the apache web server?

  • Why do some emails sent in Outlook 2010 get stuck in Outbox with date set to "None"?

    I'm using Outlook 2010 against Exchange 2007. Emails I compose sometimes get stuck in the Outbox with date "None" as shown below. These emails never leave the outbox unless I delete them and recompose. Sometimes the problem happens again until I restart the client. Additionally, if I open a good (one with today's date) email from the outbox and then send it, it too gets dated "None" and never gets sent.

  • How to use wget with an input file and filenames

    i have a text file that contains 10,000 url's with a unique number i want to save the file as. Each line has a 10 character code, then the URL of the image to retrieve. How can I make the input file use the first 10 characters as the wget filename? this is an example of the input file: input.txt x100083590http://image.allmusic.com/13/adg/cov200/drt200/t291/t29123q8m19.jpg b200149548http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DoH%2BAWKEL.jpg z100151855http://image.allmusic.com/13/amg/cov200/dri400/i450/i45035hxdrb.jpg p400171646http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61cH4n34IhL.jpg wget -i input.txt would get the file but not with the preceding unique number. I want t29123q8m19.jpg (the first line) to be saved as x100083590.jpg If there is a better way to write out the input file, say with the URL first, then I can do that too, but I will never know the length of the first field. Right now the first 10 characters will always be what I want to save the wget image as. Edit This is being done in a windows environment.

  • Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V very slow

    I have been running several Hyper-V VMs on Windows Server 2008 R2 for the past couple of years and enjoying perfectly adequate performance for my testing/development/r&d environments. I'm a software developer so my hardware knowledge is basic however I built the rig using: •Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard •Intel Core i7 960 3.20GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) •24GB triple channel RAM The host OS is running on an OCZ SSD and all the VMs are running on a 2TB Marvell SATA3 RAID 0 array consisting of 2 Western Digital Caviar Black 7,200rpm drives. I have tested the speed of the 2TB drive and appear to be getting less than 3Mbs but it can adequately run a 4 VM farm including a DC, (SQL) database and IIS application servers. I recently upgraded the SSD on which the host runs to a 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 and took the opportunity to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 and installed the Hyper-V role. I tried importing one of my existing Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs (and converted it to .vhdx) plus I have tried creating a brand new Windows Server 2008 R2 VM but both are running extremely slowly and I can see nothing obvious using the host and guest Task Manager/Resource Monitor tools. In both cases the VM has 8GB RAM (fixed), 4 CPUs, fixed size HD (not expanding) and is using an external virtual network running on a separate NIC to the host. I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest available version and checked the virtualization settings. I have run out of "obvious" (to a developer) things to check/configure and my next option will be to re-install the host OS but before I do I would very much appreciate any advice from any experts out there.     I'm working on getting a Wordpress MU install running on my VPS. I enabled the 'simple-vhost' mod and can access the site fine. The problem is I can only get to it from domain.com. If I try www.domain.com I get shown the lighthttpd page? I'd like to get everything pointing to one place. My DNS records look like this: *.domain.ORG xx.xx.xx domain.ORG 300 A domain.ORG xx.xx.xx domain.ORG 300 A WWW.domain.ORG domain.ORG domain.ORG 300 CNAME domain.ORG domain.ORG domain.ORG 300 MX What is happening?
