  • Starting a new business with former colleagues, advice needed

    I was recently contacted by a former boss of mine who is thinking of starting a new business. The business will be online only it will by my job to design, build, and maintain the software going into it. I will also have to maintain the server it's running on, being the only technical person on the team. I will be one of four members of the business, the other three being the actual business know-hows and salesmen. The other three are shouldering the cost of getting the business going (incorporation, attorney fees, etc) and we will be splitting the cost of the server. I have no business knowledge at all, and don't want any part of it, I am only interested in the technical aspects. Now that we are finalizing our plans, determining roles, and getting ready to start actual work, we have come to the point where we have to determine what percentage stake each of us has. Since I have never done anything like this before, or met anyone that has, I don't know what I should expect. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to ask for in this deal?

I was thinking of something like; if($checkuser != 0) { if($myusername == $_POST['myusername']) (...dont show error.) but my php skills are limited. can anyone advise please, thanks

    How can I systematically determine which jars I'll need, and thus should include in my pom.xml file (I'm using maven as my project management tool)? When learning spring, to keep things simple, added all the jars (even the ones I never used) to the classpath. Right now for the most part, I'm guessing which jars to include. For example, I know in my spring configuration file, I have: <tx:annotation-driven /> <context:annotation-config /> <aop:aspectj-autoproxy /> So, I guess I'll need: spring-context-x.x.x.jar, spring-tx-x.x.x.jar, spring-aop-x.x.x.jar Thanks.

  • bash tips needed for understanding how to escape characters in command-line

    My knowledge of commandline bash is missing on a particular area: I constantly forget how to properly escape characters. Today I wanted to echo this string into a file: #!/bin/env bash python -m SimpleHTTPServer echo "#!/bin/env bash\npython -m SimpleHTTPServer" server.sh && chmod +x server.sh -bash: !/bin/env: event not found That's right: Remember to escape ! or bash will think it's a special bash event command. But I can't get the escaping right! \! yields \! in the echoed string, and so does \\!. Furthermore, \n will not translate to a line break. Do you have some general tips that makes it easier for me to understand escaping rules? To be very precise, I'll accept an answer which tells me which characters I should escape on the bash command line? Including how to correctly output newline and exclamation mark in my example.

    I'm trying to set the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities properties in my Info.plist file. My app requires a persistent network connection. If I look at the definition for the "wifi" key, it says: Include this key if your application requires access to the networking features of the device. So: does the "wifi" key indicate that I need WiFi, as the key name would suggest? Or does it mean that I simply need network access, as the key definition would suggest?

We are using custom GUI text i/o components inherited from Component class using e.g. Drawstring, how well is arabic supported within Component class ? The keyboard input is done with KeyListener getKeyChar, getKeyCode etc.

    I have a project to do in Visual Basic. My problem is that the outcome is always wrong (ex. instead of 2011 it gives 2000). And i cannot set as Desired unit the Inch(1) or feet(3), it gives the Infinity error. And if i put as Original and Desired unit the inch(1), the outcome is "Not a Number".   • In App Purchase - can get product info but can't connect to itunes for purchase

    I'm trying to make "In App Purchase " works in my iphone app. I created some products and a few test accounts in itunes connect. I have no problem to retreive the products data (prices etc..) but when I try to make a payment - I am asked to log in - I use a test account - the transaction always fail with the following error : failedTransaction with error : Error Domain=SKErrorDomain Code=2 "Connexion à l’iTunes Store impossible" UserInfo=0x65d02a0 {NSLocalizedDescription=Connexion à l’iTunes Store impossible} I tried with several products and test account (even in other stores like us) but I still get the same error...     So, as described on this msdn page, when you define a Connection String for SQL Server Compact 3.5, you can use the "Data Directory" macro, like this: quote from this msdn page: Data Directory Support SQL Server Compact 3.5 now supports the Data Directory macro. This means that if you add the string |DataDirectory| (enclosed in pipe symbols) to a file path, it will resolve to the path of the database. However, the 'for more information' link on msdn doesn't actually give any more information. So my question is: How does the |Data Directory| macro translate at run time? For WinForm apps, it seems to just give the location of the executable. Or is it more complicated than that?

  • "Replay" the steps needed to recreate an error

    I am going to create a typical business application that will be used by a few hundred consultants. Normally, the consultants would be presented with an error message with a standard text. As the application will be a complicated one with lots of changes being made to it constantly I would like the following: When an error message is presented, the user has the option to "send" the error message to the developers. The developers should be able to open the incoming file in i.e. Eclipse and debug the steps of the last 10 minutes of work step by step (one line at a time if they want to). Everything should be transparent, meaning that they for example should be able to see the return values of calls to the database. Are there any solutions that offer such functionality today, my preferred language is Python or also Java. I know that there will be a huge performance hit because of such functionality, but that is acceptable as this kind of software is not performance sensitive. It would be VERY nice if the database also had a cronology so that one could query the database for values that existed at the exact time that a specific line of code was run in the application, leading up to the bug.

  • Type casting needed for byte = byte - byte?

    I have the following code: foreach (byte b in bytes) { byte inv = byte.MaxValue - b; // Add the new value to a list.... } When I do this I get the following error: Cannot implicitly convert type 'int' to 'byte'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) Each part of this statement is a byte. Why does C# want to convert the byte.MaxValue - b to an int? Shouldn't you be able to do this some how without casting? (i.e. I don't want to have to do this: byte inv = (byte) (byte.MaxValue - b);)
