  • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

    For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still? EDIT - I followed the direction with the following code in notepad and it didn't do the job: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] “Scancode Map”=hex:00000000 00000000 0200000000 00003A00 00000000

  • TightVNC (or any VNC) client windows scaling

    Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC instances, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), set Hextile encoding, and then select all windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC screens. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC clients. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again?     Bright Green Projects have an admittedly older blog post entitled Review of Agile Project Management Software | Scrum Kanban Methodology. Since I haven't had time to review Scrum project management tools in quite awhile, it was nice to find a write-up that's as succinct as this one. The thing I like the best about Bright Green's site, besides the product, is the vocabulary they use to describe Agile software development. For example, the couple Scrum with the development methodology they're using (Lean Kanban). Many organisations simply say they're using Scrum, which itself doesn't proscribe any engineering practices. It would add some clarity for teams to adopt the Scrum-Method terminology. At least then you could know if you're walking into a Scrum-Chaos situation.

  • Configure Postfix to use external MX servers for delivery of local mail if user is unknown

    I have a following setup: linux box with postfix configured to be responsible for example.com domain domain's MX servers are configured so that mail sent to example.com is sent to google mail servers several user accounts on linux machine exist (same machine also hosts example.com site) When someone from the outside attempts to send mail to address ending with @example.com, it gets routed to google mail (and there handled appropriately). When linux machine tries to send mail to outside world, mail is delivered correctly, as reverse dns and spf records are configured correctly, so linux machine is valid mail sender for example.com domain (along with google mail servers). However, here's the problem. When php application (hosted at linux box) tries to send mail to [email protected] (and someuser doesn't exist on linux box), it fails, since it doesn't even consult google mail servers, but postfix smtp locally concludes that "someuser" is unknown. So, the question is: how do I tell postfix to relay mails sent to @example.com domain to google mail servers (so, to servers specified in MX records), IF and only if a mailbox is not found locally.

  • Automatically switch to workspace with active application

    Hi, I currently have 4 workspaces. If I have a pidgin chat window open on one workspace that is currently not active and I get a message in that already open chat window, I want do be able to click on the green envelope symbol in the upper menu-bar and be switched to the workspace the window is situated. Currently if I click on the green envelope symbol there will be appear a button on the lower menu-bar on which I have to click to be switched to the other workspace. Same with opening links. If in some application I click on a link the last activated Firefox window will open the link. Even this last active firebox window is on a currently not active workspace, and there is a Firefox window on the currently active workspace. So either open the link in the Firefox on the currently active workspace, or switch to the workspace on which the link was opened. Is/are there any solution(s) to this problem?

  • Power Supply Not Working?

    So I recently made some purchases for a new computer including: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R CPU : Intel Core2Quad 2.66Ghz Power Supply: Antec Basiq 500w UPDATE: I got the Power Supply working, the motherboard's lights come on, the video card fan spins, BUT the CPU fan does NOT spin and there is no video. Whats the possibility of lacking power? In the mobo guide it says the use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V connector is recommended (I do not have this connector) by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition (I'm using Core2Quad) UPDATE: Got it working, intstalling windows 7 now.   • How to detect when a user copies files from a server over the network?

    I have a few virtual servers + desktops that are used for shared development with remote users, including some consultants. Each user has an account with access to most aspects of the server. I don't want to prevent people from being productive, or track passwords or read emails, but I do want to know when and what files they copy from the virtual server or what they upload from the server to a remote site, and what if any applications they install. This will help make sure my IP is protected, that no one is installing tools they shouldn't, and that things are licensed appropriately. What is the simplest way to do this? In order of importance I would say detecting file transfers off the machine to be most critical. Thanks

  • Apache reverse proxy with VirtualHost not serving a page

    I have an Apache reverse proxy set to move requests to a Tomcat Applet. The config is similar to: <VirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80> ProxyPass /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App ProxyPassReverse /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App </VirtualHost> I also have a page called summary.html that exists on 1.1.1.1 as: http://1.1.1.1/AppName/summary.html When I browse directly to it I have no problem viewing it, however if I try to get there via the reverse proxy I get a blank page. Wireshark shows me a 503, but this one is coming from the Apache reverse proxy (IP 100.100.100.100) and not the Tomcat (IP 1.1.1.1). Should I add http://1.1.1.1/AppName/ to the config? How? I tried it but I get a blank page, however this one shows on the URL bar of the browser the internal IP of the Tomcat, so, no go. Help is appreciated. Thanks.   • VMware - Watching multiple virtual machine screens

    Hi, I don't know even if I put the question right, but here's what I'd like to accomplish. I have avoided specifying exact Vmware virtualization product here because I'm not sure which one would be most suitable for the task at hand. I am developing an application that works in local network. This application has to run on several computers at the same time, and it's important to me, as a developer and tester, to see (literally) how it behaves at all times on all computers. Is there any way to connect to screens of virtual machines deployed on ESX, ESXi, Sever 2.0, or some other product, so that I can see something like grid of screens, say 4x4 or 6x4 or whatever number of scaled screens, at the same time? Ability to interact with screens directly from grid (by double-clicking a screen, for instance, and then getting full resolution screen) would be greatly appreciated, of course. I hope that someone understood what I meant here. :)

    I implemented the minimum translation vector from codezealot's tutorial on SAT (Separating Axis Theorem) but I'm having an issue I can't quite figure out. Here's the example I have: As you can see in top and bottom left images regardless of the side the of the green car which red car is penetrating the MTV for the red car still remains as a negative number also here is the same example when the front of the red car is facing the opposite direction the number will always be positive. When the red car is past the half way through the green car it should switch polarity. I thought I'd compensated for this in my code, but apparently not either that or it's a bug I can find.     Key Performance Indicators are typically displayed in a scorecard with stop light indicators, which are either red, amber or green light icons. The limitation for these kind of indicators is that you can see the actual and target values in two different fields as well as see the status of the KPI in red, amber or green color. If the user wants to figure out the thresholds associated with the KPI, these values are generally not visible. Further, representing the threshold values in the scorecard itself defeats the purpose of the scorecard.   • How can I obtain/build a wireless volume knob for Windows?

    I use my computer as a media center and simply love it. It's an older box running XP and it works better than everything else I've tried turning into a media center (Windows 7, Vista, several Linux distros, etc). The only thing I hate is having to walk to my audio amp to turn the volume up or down. I can use the Windows volume slider or any keyboard with keys to control volume. What I'd really love is to have a wireless knob which I can put anywhere when listening to music (e.g. kitchen) which controls the volume. It seems so simple yet I can't find it anywhere. Having controls for pausing and moving to next song would also be terrific. Griffin's Powermate could do the trick but I'd really want it to be wireless. Do you know of something I can buy or build myself to serve this purpose?

  • vista issue with shift key

    for some reason when i press the shift key on my laptop keyboard is mapped to 'ctrl+v' which does a paste. i thought it was the keyboard but then i replaced it with a wireless one,it still gives me the same issue. can someone help me. i cant just turn off the shift key all together because i do need it at times. model 8510w; vista operating system

  • MacBook (13 in. Aluminum late 08) power adapter starting to fail

    I have a MacBook (Late '08 13 In. Aluminum) with the Apple provided power adapter. I think it may be failing because It takes a little moving around with the cable nearest where it connects to the MacBook to get it to charge (small light turns on). The area of cable nearest the MacBook gets very hot, almost burning. Any ideas of how I could fix it? Hopefully without replacing the adapter. Thanks in advance!

  • Apache freezing, How to detect which virtual host is getting hit?

    I have a production server that in the last 24 hours has been hard rebooted 4 times due to freezes. Ping is fine but all other services time-out (Apache, SSHd, etc). I have now diagnosed it to Apache running out of memory due to an exorbitant amount of child processes forking suddenly within seconds of starting Apache. Stopping Apache just after rebooting keeps the server stable again. My two questions are: Is there a way to detect which of the vhosts is being suddenly hammered without looking into each vhost's access log one by one? Is there a way to quickly enable/disable vhosts without commenting (#) them all out in httpd.conf?

  • Show Slave Status not working from console, nor client.

    Hello, I have a somewhat strange case. Whenever one of my coworkers executes this line: show slave status; from their MySQL clients, it works smoothly. But if I do that, it says: ERROR 1227 (42000): Access denied; you need the SUPER,REPLICATION CLIENT privilege for this operation We are all going against the same database, and if I check privileges I can see: GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON . TO 'usermysql'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'password' There's something wrong with my computer.. but I can't pinpoint where it is.. Thanks EDIT: It's kinda bizarre.. it goes through a VPN remotely. But if I change the internet connection, then it works.. If the previous internet connection is restored, it doesn't.. Could we classify this among the great mysteries of the world? Or someone has an idea?

  • Pin same app multiple times in Windows 7

    I use some programs with command line arguments and like to have shortcuts for launching those programs with those arguments. For example, I keep several Firefox profiles around and like to specify the profile name on the command line. Similarly I have several Eclipse shortcuts with a command line argument specifying the workspace to open. I would like to be able to pin these shortcuts to the start menu or taskbar in Windows 7. The problem I have is that once I've pinned one of these, no other shortcuts which launch the same exe can be launched. I'm also open to suggestions such as a suitable desktop gadget which can contain a bunch of arbitrary shortcuts, yet remain in a fixed position on my desktop somewhere, or some way of adding a secondary taskbar (this was possible in XP).

  • Random shut down? Asus N53J Laptopi

    My Laptop is pretty new and today it random shut down on its own. I was surfing the net and the computer shut down on its own (Like losing power, without any warning). It was the 2nd time, the first time was 3 weeks ago. Btw it happens during cold days. I remember one time I was unable to turn on my laptop at all. So I'm pretty sure it's not related to heat issue... could it be the laptop is too "cold"? My room temperature is around 17=18 degree on average :P edit -I use Windows 7 Professional. -I run memtest86 once and it passed. -I run my laptop WITHOUT battery all the time.
