  • Help with route rewrite in asp.net mvc

    Im having a really hard time understanding routing. Please help me with this problem. Each of my controllers have these three actions right now Users have Index, Create and Edit Locations have Index, Create and Edit Companies have Index, Create and Edit The thing is, it all gets done through ajax. I have jquery ui tabs with two tabs for each, Create and Edit So the Index method is always the one that gets called for action links. and inside this main view is that you can call(by clicking on the tab icon) the other methods that return an ajax view that gets output into the jqeury tab (I hope thats clear) I have a sidebar with links to the controllers. and to specific methods of these controllers. The wanted behavior is that it should actually go into the Index Method and then with some logic autoload the wanted tab. It all works just fine right now. But my urls are horrible. To get to the create method for Users I have to go this url http://localhost/Users/Index/1 http://localhost/Users/Index/2 I want the behavior of these links to be remapped to these links http://localhost/Users/Create http://localhost/Users/Edit So even though it seems as if you are calling the Create method of the controller you are actualling always calling the Index Method.... (I know how to transform Create into "1" and Edit into two, so dont worry about that part Hope thats clear. Thanks in advance Edit: Just realized that this might not be possible cause then when I actually need to call the methods (with ajax) it wont know what to do.... am I correct?

    I have the following Solution: SomeProject.Ria (non Silverlight code) SomeProject.Ria.Silverlight (Silverlight light code, namespace is still SomeProject.Ria) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices (RIA Services Domain Service) SomeProject.Ria.MyServices.Proxies (RIA Services Silverlight Generated Code) SomeProject.Shell (Silverlight Applicaiton) SomeProject.Web (Web Application) I would like to use Resource Files for my Annotations on the meta data class in SomeProject.Ria.MyServices. The format for that appears to be: [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessageResourceName="ThisFieldIsRequired", ErrorMessageResourceType(MyResource))] Which project does MyResource belong in? (Assuming that someday I need to support other culture files). Also the use of the string in here really seems to breed room for error, is it possible to do something like this and still achieve localization, or does this just get compiled into the meta data? If not, how can I get round the resource name being a string? [Required(AllowEmptyStrings=false,ErrorMessage=MyResources.RequiredMessage)]

  • HTML: Place an image on top of another one

    Inside a div, there is a picture that should have 10px margin in all directions from the DIV's border. On the left bottom corner of the picture there is an about-image. The picture is only displayed when its loaded in the DOM through jquery. The problem is that the existence of the about-image dislocates the picture downwards as many pixels as the height of the about-image. I am looking for the cleanest possible alternative to keep the picture inside the DIV and still display the about-image on top of it. Setting the picture as background will not work since i need the picture to load at once. Any improvement on the #about css would be greatly appreciated.   • rails best practices where to place unobtrusive javascript

    Hi there, my rails applications (all 2.3.5) use a total mix of inline javascript, rjs, prototype and jquery. Let's call it learning or growing pains. Lately i have been more and more infatuated with unobtrusive javascript. It makes your html clean, in the same way css cleaned it up. But most examples i have seen are small examples, and they put all javascript(jquery) inside application.js Now i have a pretty big application, and i am thinking up ways to structure my js. I like somehow that my script is still close to the view, so i am thinking something like orders.html.erb orders.js where orders.js contains the unobtrusive javascript specific to that view. But maybe that's just me being too conservative :) I have read some posts by Yehuda Katz about this very problem here and here, where he tackles this problem. It will go through your js-files and only load those relevant to your view. But alas i can't find a current implementation. So my questions: how do you best structure your unobtrusive javascript; manage your code, how do you make sure that it is obvious from the html what something is supposed to do. I guess good class names go a long way :) how do you arrange your files, load them all in? just a few? do you use content_for :script or javascript_include_tag in your view to load the relevant scripts. Or ... ? do you write very generic functions (like a delete), with parameters (add extra attributes?), or do you write very specific functions (DRY?). I know in Rails 3 there is a standard set, and everything is unobtrusive there. But how to start in Rails 2.3.5? In short: what are the best practices for doing unobtrusive javascript in rails? :)

  • Place Query Results into Array then Implode?

    Basically I pull an Id from table1, use that id to find a site id in table2, then need to use the site ids in an array, implode, and query table3 for site names. I cannot implode the array correctly first I got an error, then used a while loop.   • ASP.NET MVC 2 - do UrlParameter.Optional entries have to be at the end of the route?

    I am migrating a site from ASP.NET MVC 1 to ASP.NET MVC 2. At the moment, the site supports the following routes: /{country}/{language}/{controller}/{action} /{country}/{controller}/{action} /{language}/{controller}/{action} /{controller}/{action} The formats for country and language are distinguishable by Regex and have suitable constraints. In MVC 1, I registered each of these as a separate route - for each of around 20 combinations. In MVC 2, I have been trying to get the same thing working with one route to cover all four cases, using UrlParameter.Optional, but I can't seem to get it working - if I define country and language as both optional, then the route /Home/Index for example doesn't successfully match the route. This is what I am trying to do: routes.MapRoute("Default", "{country}/{language}/{controller}/{action}", new { country = UrlParameter.Optional, language = UrlParameter.Optional, controller = "Home", action = "Index" }, new { country = COUNTRY_REGEX, language = LANGUAGE_REGEX }); Is this just impossible because my optionals are at the beginning of the route, or am I just missing something? I can't find any documentation to either tell me what I am doing is impossible or to point me in the right direction.

  • UITableViewCells of different heights place their accessoryViews at different X positions

    Hey Guys, My app has some table cells that vary in height. The cells can also have a UIButton set to be a detail disclosure button (round, blue with arrow) as their accessory view. Depending on the height of the cell, the accessory view is positioned differently. At first I thought it was my layout code for my cell that was causing the problem, so I set up a quick independent test that uses vanilla UITableCells to remove the possibility that it could be my fault. I set up a view in interface builder, and just added a view table cells to the view, set their heights to different values and then added a detail disclosure button to each. Nothing more, nothing less. This is what I see: I added the size guides (thanks to Xscope) so you can see the difference in the accessory view x positions. The heights are: top 37px mid 68px bottom 44px (default, untouched height) If I increase the height any heigher than 68px the accessory view doesn't move any further to the left. Is this a bug? Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?

  • Git: delete files in a branch, what happens when a merge takes place

    I'm relatively new to source control (at least complex source control). If I'm developing a set of features in a branch, and I happen to delete some cruft out of the source tree in this branch, what happens when I merge? Are the files properly deleted in the trunk/master? Is there anything I should avoid doing that is typically problematic when developing in a branch? This is a 2-3 developer system, so we're not talking about massive changes to source. I'm told you should pull from the trunk often to avoid tangled manual merge situations, and this makes sense.     I'm trying to replace a set of characters within a string. The string may or may not have any data to change. The string is marked up in a way that allows for it to change it's color from a set of characters. The string can reset it's it's formatting to default by using a defined set of characters. This setup is very much like the ECMA-48 standard used on LINUX consoles for colors and other special effects. Where one string could be ^0Black^1Red^2Green^3Yellow^4Blue^5Purple^6Cyan^7White Producing the following HTML: <span style="color: #000">Black</span><span style="color: #F00">Red</span><span style="color: #0F0">Green</span><span style="color: #FF0">Yellow</span><span style="color: #00F">Blue</span><span style="color: #F0F">Purple</span><span style="color: #0FF">Cyan</span><span style="color: #FFF">White</span> Another string (^1Error^8: ^3User Error) could also produce: <span style="color: #F00">Error</span>: <span style="color: #FF0">User Error</span> You might of noticed the ^8 part of that string resets the color for that part of the string.     Hi, i'm having this issue, in ASP.NET MVC 2 where I'm adding a drop down list on the master page and filling it with data from an abstract master controller. When an option is selected an submit button clicked, it reroutes you to a new page. so lets say the page lives on http://domain.com/landingPage i'm on: http://domain.com/landingPage i select option and submit takes me to http://domain.com/landingPage/Projects/FramedPage i select again and now the post tries to go to: http://domain.com/landingPage/Projects/landingPage/Projects/FramedPage because of the action="" i have set on the form tag. Any ideas on how to go about this?     I have a Vehicle model: map.resources :vehicles, :has_many => :suppliers Everything works great, but Vehicle has a boolean attribute is_truck. I want to make an Alias so I can get the same resources but with the "truck" word, I tried with: map.trucks '/trucks', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true map.trucks '/trucks/by_supplier/:supplier', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true The first one works well, but when I search within a Form the second doesn't work and searches all suppliers. Is it possible to map.resources for an alias ?

I wanted to see if there were other sites where people have uploaded or voted on other themes to view and download.     I have a controller: twitter_status with two functions: tweet_post tweet_comment in routes.rb I have map.resources :twitter_status In my show post view, I have a partial: _show and _show_comment In _show I have: tweet_post_twitter_status_path (...) and that works fine. But in the in _show_comment partial I have: tweet_comment_twitter_status_path (...) but I have a NoMethodError in the show.html.erb view. Any ideas?

  • Help, my CentOS servers keep going down , No route to host after a random uptime [closed]

    Hello , I have a couple of Centos linux servers, that have a very simple task, they run nginx + fastcgi for php , and some NFS mounts between them, readonly They have some RPC commands to start some downloading processes with wget, nothing fancy , from a main server, but their behavior is very unstable, they simply go down, we tried to monitor ram , processor usage, even network connections, they don't load up so much, max network connections up to... 250 max, 15% processor usage and memory , well, doesn't even fill up, 2.5GB from 8GB max , I have no ideea why can a linux server go down like that, they aren't even public servers, no domain names installed no public serving, for sites. The only thing that I've discovered was that if i didn't restart the network service every couple of hours or so... the servers were becoming very slow, starting apps very slow, but not repoting a high usage of resources...Maybe Centos doesn't free the timeout connections, or something like that...It's based on Red Hat right? I'm not a linux expert , but I'm sure that there are a few guys out there that can easily have an answer to this , or even have some leads to what i can do ... I haven't installed snort, or other things to view if we have some DOS attacks, still the scheduled script that restarts the network each hour should put the system back online, and it doesn't....
