• Sprite sheets, Clamp or Wrap?

  I'm using a combination of sprite sheets for well, sprites and individual textures for infinite tiling. For the tiling textures I'm obviously using Wrap to draw the entire surface in one call but up until now I've been making a seperate batch using Clamp for drawing sprites from the sprite sheets. The sprite sheets include a border (repeating the edge pixels of each sprite) and my code uses the correct source coordinates for sprites. But since I'm never giving coordinates outside of the texture when drawing sprites (and indeed the border exists to prevent bleed over when filtering) it's struck me that I'd be better off just using Wrap so that I can combine everything into one batch. I just want to be sure that I haven't overlooked something obvious. Is there any reason that Wrap would be harmful when used with a sprite sheet?

• Extended validation certificate not changing browser bar green in Firefox

  I'm having some problems with an Extended validation certificate on a site that isn't showing the green bar correctly in Firefox. Chrome and IE are working fine. When I load the page the bar appears for a few seconds and then disappears when the page has fully loaded. Someone mentioned it could be because of loading images over HTTPS, but I'm not sure how valid this case is. We have one image on the page that is loaded from another source over HTTPS, the rest of the images are stored in the file system on the server. FYI - its Windows Server 2008 and ASP.net UPDATE: Solved this problem - the style sheet was loading in a Google Font url using http, not https - changed it and now it's working.

• Recycle Old Hardware into a Showcase Table

  If you have a plethora of old hardware laying around, especially motherboard and expansion cards, this obsolete-hardware-to-table hack is just the ticket for your office or geek cave. The table’s design is simple. They took a regular coffee table, affixed old mother boards to it and then, over the motherboards and elevated by acrylic standoffs, they put a heavy sheet of acrylic to serve as the table top. You could replicate the design with any sort of old hardware that is interesting to look at: memory modules your company is sending off to be recycled, old digital cameras, mechanisms from peripherals headed for the scrap heap, etc. Hit up the link below to see more photos of the table. • How do I get an Epson al-c 1700 printer working?

  I have a brand new epson aculaser c1700 and i'd like to have it working fine on ubuntu 12.04. so i did my homework, kind of, no printer driver comes for this printer in cups ... so i asked epson support who drove me to avasys who no longer handle support since december 2011. This the question that is still in my mind : as this printer comes with an osx driver which uses cups as printer server, how come no driver can be found for cups? I tried to get ppd and filters from osx driver and use them to install the printer on ubuntu but no answer from printer and none printed sheet i have .... i'm so disappointed i could cry ... I'd like to work with someone to get this working fine, please help me!

• How to change the sprite colors

  In my rhythm game, I have a note object which can be of different colors depending on the note chart. I could use a sprite sheet with all the different color variations I use, but I would prefer to parametrize this. (For information, a note sprite is compound with one main color, for example a red note has only red, light red and dark red.) So, how to change the colors of a sprite basing on a new color ? I'm working with opengl, but any algorithm or math explanation will do. :) Thanks

• Determining Cost of API Calls

I think the question is more appropriate here.] I was going through the adwords API and came across their rate sheet - http://code.google.com/apis/adwords/docs/ratesheet.html . They charge $0.25 per 1000 API units and under the 'Operation Costs' sections list the cost (in API units) of different API calls. I am curious - based on what factors do they (and others API developers) calculate the cost of an API call? Is there any simple formula or a standard way to determine this? Note: When I say 'cost' of an API call, I don't mean the money but the API units. For example, how do you determine one API call costs 100 'units' and another 1000?

• Routing PHP memcached calls to Oracle Coherence

  A new post Getting Started with the Coherence Memcached Adaptor from David Felcey shows how PHP memcached calls can automatically be routed to store data in Oracle Coherence 12c. This is possible now Coherence 12.1.3 supports Memcached clients using the Binary Memcached protocol. David's post shows how the Coherence Memcached adaptor can be configured as a proxy service that runs in the Coherence cluster. There's nothing particular to configure in the PHP application, except to enable memcached.use_sasl = 1 So what is Coherence? • How can I create and animate 2D skeletons for HTML5 Javascript games? [on hold]

  I'm trying to make a 2D fighting game in HTML5(somewhat like street fighter). So basically there are two players, one AI and one Human. The players need to have animations for the body movements. Also, there needs to be some collision detection system. I'm using createjs for coding but to design models/objects/animations, I need some other software. So I'm looking for a software that can: easily make custom animation of 2d objects. The objects structure(skeleton etc.) will be same once defined but need to be defined once. Can export the animations and models in a js readable format(preferably json) Collision detection can be done easily after the exported format is loaded in a game engine. For point 1, I'm looking for some generic skeleton based animation. Sprite-sheet based animations will be difficult for collision detection.

  I want to use LWJGL to create a shader that all it does is change the color of the given texture. For example I tell it to draw the letter A using a sprite sheet then I can tell the shader to draw the letter in a certain color. How would you do something like this without needed to create different colored letter sprite sheets? Task for the shader: Simply change all pixels to a certain color in the texture. Input: Color , texture. Output: it draws onto the screen the new colored texture. How do i accomplish such a thing?

  I am developing a 2D platform game in Java. The player has a gun in his hand every time. He needs to walk and shoot with the gun(arrow keys for walk and X key to shoot). The walk cycle takes 6 frames and i am able to import the sprite sheet and animate the sequence when I press arrow key. But i need to add the gun motion. The player holds the gun upwards and when X key is pressed he brings it straight and shoots. How to implement the walk + shoot action?

  I have used the css style sheet as font-family:arial,helvicta,sans-serif,etc... in a php file when i checked it in browser i dont know which font it is using from the font-family . i wanted to know the exact font used by the browser to display. i.e whether it is using arial or helvicta or sans-serif for the text i have displayed. please any one let me know to find this. i have checked by putting this in wordpad but it is taking my default system font. • Graphically intensive silverlight design

  I'm designing a silverlight application for showing sheet music from a midi file. I want to create a horizontally scrolling musical staff. At my job I maintain a winforms application that is a scrolling Gantt chart of airplane schedules, and it basically has a rows collection, and it maps the left-most pixel and right-most pixels of the control to datetimes. Then the paint method loops through what it determines will be the visible rows, and draws a screen that shows the schedule information between the two dates. Would I be correct in assuming that I would need to something similar in silverlight for my sheetmusic, or would it be better to just create a horizontal scrollviewer containing a canvas that I have drawn programmaticially on. Am I headed in the right direction? I havent seen any articles on designing such a custom control: can you point me at any?

• The actual difference between styesheet in the header and a seperate file

  Am wondering if someone can give me an opinion on this. I have always been taught to have all of the CSS in a separate file that is referenced from the head of the page. Reading this article http://www.lukew.com/ff/entry.asp?1792 the author is talking about making the Guardian website responsive. One of the things he notes they did to make the site faster and more resilient is to add the CSS inline into the header, thus reducing HTTP requests. Now this got me thinking about the right/best/fastest way of using the CSS If you have one main CSS file, its going to be called and read by the site on every page, no mater how big it is. So with that in mind, Im actually starting to think its better to just inline the whole style sheet and remove one HTTP roundtrip. I know for the purposes of neatness and being able to edit the file a seperate file is better. But which would you recommend and which do you think is faster? Thanks!
