    Ever since installing Ubuntu 10.04 I've had issues getting things to auto-start. I have installed webmin and VirtualBox but every time I reboot I have to manually run: sudo /etc/init.d/webmin start sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv start I have run: sudo update-rc.d -f webmin remove and then hodge@hodge-fs:~$ sudo update-rc.d webmin defaults update-rc.d: warning: webmin start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) do not match LSB Default-Start values (2 3 5) Adding system startup for /etc/init.d/webmin ... /etc/rc0.d/K20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc1.d/K20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc6.d/K20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc2.d/S20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc3.d/S20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc4.d/S20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin /etc/rc5.d/S20webmin -> ../init.d/webmin But it they still refuse to start on boot.     hi, i have homegroup on my pc and laptop, both running windows 7 , i can share the folders & files easily, but the problem is i cant stop sharing the folder. even i went to computer manage and stop sharing from there, but inside the homegroup the "stopped" share files are still showing. but now i cant open them because its showing the network resource is unavailable. but still the folders are showing how to hide them?

  • IPsec Policy Agent flip-flopping demand start/auto start in Windows Server 2008?

    Looking through the event logs on my web server I noticed a strange pattern. The following events have been occurring over and over again, always back to back: The start type of the IPsec Policy Agent service was changed from demand start to auto start. The start type of the IPsec Policy Agent service was changed from auto start to demand start. Each one produces event id 7040 from the Service Control Manager. And sometimes this will happen 20 times in one minute. Any idea what would cause this? I've been trying to pinpoint an intermittent performance problem for the past several days and this is the most peculiar thing I've found so far. I'm running Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, and ASP.NET 3.5 w/ MVC 1.

But grep continue to Search other same param on other files and its take almost 30 seconds How to stop the grep immediately after param match? THX

    I have a laptop that fails to boot with the BSOD error: "page_fault_in_non_paged_area" STOP: 0x00000050 (0xEC6B738D, 0x00000000, 0x8649308C, 0x00000000) The laptop has 2 memory DIMMs. I removed each DIMM one at a time and the error remained with just one DIMM installed. I have run spinrite 6.0 on the hard drive no errors found. Booted to recovery mode and ran CHKDSK /R, it found and fixed errors but still gets the stop error. Any other suggestions to try?

  • Hyper-V/Ubuntu server 12.04 - VM does not stop

    i just installed a ubuntu 12.04 server on a 2008 R2 Hyper-V server and all is fine (networking/storage ...). There is just one thing, when i halt my linux (using "sudo halt"), i can see on the console that the system is halted but the vm status on hyper-v is still "started". Then i need to stop it on the hyper-v management tool. Anybody has an idea on how to properly stop this VM on hyper-V automatically ? Thanks, Alex

    Every developer is familiar with hitting F5 and debugging their application, which starts their app with the Visual Studio debugger attached from the start (instead of attaching later). This is one way to achieve step 1 of the Live Debugging process. Hitting F5, F11, Ctrl+F10 and the other ways to start the process under the debugger is covered in this MSDN "How To". The way you configure the debugging experience, before you hit F5, is by selecting the "Project" and then the "Properties" menu (Alt+F7 on my keyboard bindings). Dependent on your project type there are different options, but if you browse to the Debug (or Debugging) node in the properties page you'll have a way to select local or remote machine debugging, what debug engines to use, command line arguments to use during debugging etc. Currently the .NET and C++ project systems are different, but one would hope that one day they would be unified to use the same mechanism and UI (I don't work on that product team so I have no knowledge of whether that is a goal or if it will ever happen). Personally I like the C++ one better, here is what it looks like (and it is described on this MSDN page): If you were following along in the "Attach to Process" blog post, the equivalent to the "Select Code Type" dialog is the "Debugger Type" dropdown: that is how you change the debug engine. Some of the debugger properties options appear on the standard toolbar in VS.   • First time application where to start?

    After many years of searches and copy pasting, I'm still looking for simple solution that can transliterate text input on the fly from one key set to another. There are quite few online services that provide this feature but it still quite annoying to go online all the time. Unfortunately there is not that many applications left which are capable of doing so, and none of them supported by this day. I decided to make my own and at same time to learn something new for my self. The idea is quite simple: application should sit in system tray and wait until input language get changed, for example to Russian. If Russian language is activated, application should start to listen for user key strokes combination and replace them based on custom dictionary for example R = ?, SH = ? etc. I should be able to bind application to any installed language (Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Belarusian etc.) and customise dictionary for any of them. So my question is: Which language should I chose for this task C++, C# or might be something hardcore like Assembler, as application should work natively with Windows XP/Vista/7 or possibly Mac. (cross platform support is good but my main target is Windows) Due to nature of application behaviour how can I tell anti-virus software that it is not a "Key Logger" and basically not a virus? Where should I start and what should I be aware of? P.S. My current programming knowledge is quite basic, PHP and JavaScript with Object Oriented approach.

  • VNC grey screen and start on boot 12.04

    I have 12.04 LTS installed and I am trying to get VNC to work. I want to be able to connect to existing sessions, and have it start on boot. I followed this guide and have left a comment to try and fix my problems but no dice. I have also tried all solutions I have found on google, including the one here, but I could not get it to work (I am missing something easy I am sure). When I connect to the VNC session I get a grey screen with three checkboxes: Accept clipboard from viewers Send clipboard to viewers Send primary selection to viewers Here is my xstartup: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: unset SESSION_MANAGER # exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc gnome-session -session=gnome-classic & [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey vncconfig -iconic & #x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & #x-window-manager & I have also edited my to include: /usr/bin/vncserver -geometry 1024x768 It does not start on boot, but when I run the command it starts, but I get the grey screen.     I'm trying implement A* Start path finding in my games(which are written with JavaScript, HTML5 Canvas). And with this library, I'm trying write a simple test, but stuck with one problem. I'm now done when in HTML5 canvas screen click with mouse show path until my mouse.x and mouse.y.   • DHCP-server doesn't start at boot because of wrong startup order

    Apparently the isc-dhcp-server is started too early in the boot sequence, it states that it has nothing to do. If I just log directly in as root and start it using the init.d-script, it starts normally. My setup is basically an utterly standard router, with an eth0 on the inet side, and an eth1 on the lan side. However, I've defined a bridge instead of the eth1 for the lan-side. Thus, the lan-part of the network isn't up until the bridge is up. I currently believe that the dhcp server is brought up before the bridge is brought up, probably because the bridge is brought up with the 'networking' task, while the eth's are taken up with the 'network-interface' tasks - which are run earlier. (also, the bridge takes a small age to get up compared to the eth's). If I do take away the bridge config, instead using eth1 directly for the lan side, things work. (However, judging by syslog, things are still tight.) Ideas of how the get DHCP to start later? (The reason for the bridge, is to be able to use KVM with bridged networking..)

  • Where to Start?

    my name is Chase. I've been programming for over 3 years now and I've made very little progress towards game development. I blame myself for it due to reasons. I have experience in many languages such as C++, C#, and Java. I have a little bit of knowledge in JavaScript/HTML and Python. My question is where to start on actually understanding jumping into game development. Whenever I watch game development tutorials it mostly makes sense until points of things like OpenGL or advanced topics that make no sense at all. An example is something like glOrhho Matrix or whatever. Videos either don't explain things like this or they're not explained very well. Do I not know enough basics? I find myself always copying code from a video but understanding very little of it. It's like i'm memorizing things I don't understand which makes it hard to program at all. If I were to want to get to the point where I could write my own game engine or just a game by myself in general in C++ using at the most documentation how would I start at mastering to that level. Should I learn C first, or get really good at basics in general with C++. I know there is a similar posted question on this site but it's not the same due to the fact the person asking the question has a well knowledge level in programming. I'm stuck in a loop of learning the same things but if I go farther I don't understand. I'm stuck in the same spot and need to make progress.

  • X won't start, root filesystem mounted read only

    I just experienced a very strange and puzzling problem on my machine that I can't seem to get sorted out. I was running Windows on a second partition, and everything was working great. I then went to restart into Linux, and noticed that X wouldn't start. Everything was displayed in super-low resolution, so I tried reinstalling my NVIDIA driver. I started seeing all of these I/O error problems, so I figured that my SSD was bad. After a bit more playing around, I ran fsck on the drive when mounted from a startup disk as well as badsectors and everything looked great. The SMART drive tests all passed and again, everything was looking good, so I rebooted again and still, no joy. I started then getting some weird USB errors, so I followed someone's advice and unplugged my computer's power supply, then started back up again and my graphics looked a lot better in the BIOS and in the boot logo, but X still wouldn't start. I then found out that my main boot drive was being mounted read-only for some reason. What's going wrong? I've done some pretty extensive tests on the SSD from a startup disk such as writing massive files, reading big files, running filesystem checks on the entire disk, and everything is looking great, until I try to boot. Whenever I try installing the drivers with apt-get, I get a ton of ata error messages looking like this: How can I diagnose what's going wrong and fix it so I can get back to work?

    There are a few common issues reported when starting weblogic server using scripts. 1. User is not able to access weblogic console. 2. After a few days/hours weblogic server stops abruptly. 3. When user closes putty, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 4. When user closes windows command prompt, they are not able to connect to weblogic server anymore. 5. Weblogic is started using startManagedWebLogic.cmd/startManagedWebLogic.sh. By default, WebLogic Server does not run in background mode, so after you close the window the process finishes as well. In Linux/Unix based platforms, you need to use: nohup ./startManagedWebLogic.sh <Server> <URL> & In Windows platforms, you need to start Managed Servers using Windows Services: How to Install MS Windows Services For FMW 11g WebLogic Domain Admin and Managed Servers (Doc ID 1060058.1) http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e13708/winservice.htm There a few more reasons that could cause similar symptoms, like JVM crash, signals sent by the Operating System, and many other reasons.  But the above steps is the first one to start.   • Shell Script Launching Child Processes

    Disclaimer: I'm totally new to shell scripting, but have quite a bit of experience in other languages like PHP and Obj-C. I'm writing my first daemon script. Here are the goals: I want it to run in the background I want it to be triggered by an init.d script that includes start/stop/restart commands I want each process in a loop to trigger its own subprocess. When the parent process kicked off by the init.d script is killed, I want the subprocesses to die as well. Essentially, I'm looking for the same kind of behavior that appears to be very common among software like apache, spamd, dovecot, etc. But, based on my research, I haven't found a single, simple answer as to how this kind of thing is achieved. Any help is greatly appreciated.
