  • Using CALayer Delegate

    - by Shaun Budhram
I have a UIView whose layers will have sublayers. I'd like to assign delegates for each of those sublayers, so the delegate method can tell the layer what to draw. My question is: What should I provide as CALayer's delegate? The documentation says not to use the UIView the layers reside in, as this is reserved for the main CALayer of the view. But, creating another class just to be the delegate of the CALayers I create defeats the purpose of not subclassing CALayer. What are people typically using as the delegate for CALayer? Or should I just subclass? Also, why is it that the class implementing the delegate methods doesn't have to conform to some sort of CALayer protocol? That's a wider overarching question I don't quite understand. I thought all classes requiring implementation of delegate methods required a protocol specification for implementers to conform to.

  • New to iPhone SDK: touchesBegan not called

    - by coriolan
Hi, I created a very very basic iPhone app with File/New Projet/View-Based application. No NIB file there. Here is my appDelegate .h @interface MyAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; MyViewController *viewController; } .m - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } And here is my loadView method in my controller - (void)loadView { CGRect mainFrame = [[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]; UIView *contentView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:mainFrame]; contentView.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor]; self.view = contentView; [contentView release]; } Now, in order to catch the touchesBegan event, I created a new subclass of UIView: .h @interface TouchView : UIView { } .m - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"Touch detected"); } and modified the second line in my loadView into this : TouchView *contentView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:mainFrame]; Why is touchesBegan never called?

  • How to change color of divider in NSSplitView?

    - by Akki
Can we change the color of the divider? Apple documentations says, that we can override -dividerColor in subclass of NSSplitView for this, but it doesn't works for me, or my understanding isn't correct. Also I've try create color layer over divider, e.g.: colorLayer = [CALayer layer]; NSRect dividerFrame = NSMakeRect([[self.subviews objectAtIndex:0] frame].size.width, [[self.subviews objectAtIndex:0] frame].origin.y, [self dividerThickness], self.frame.size.height); [colorLayer setBackgroundColor:[color coreGraphicsColorWithAlfa:1]]; [colorLayer setFrame:NSRectToCGRect(dividerFrame)]; [self.layer addSublayer:colorLayer]; Not works.

  • iPhone first responders

    - by William Jockusch
I am confused about the iPhone responder chain. Specifically, in the iPhone event handling guide http://developer.apple.com/iPhone/library/documentation/iPhone/Conceptual/iPhoneOSProgrammingGuide/EventHandling/EventHandling.html, we have the following: The first responder is the responder object in an application (usually a UIView object) that is designated to be the first recipient of events other than touch events. But UIView is a subclass of UIResponder. And the UIResponder class reference says this: - (BOOL)canBecomeFirstResponder Return Value YES if the receiver can become the first responder, NO otherwise. Discussion Returns NO by default. If a responder object returns YES from this method, it becomes the first responder and can receive touch events and action messages. Subclasses must override this method to be able to become first responder. I am confused by the apparent contradiction. Can anyone clear it up for me? For what it's worth, I did set up a simple view-based application, and call canBecomeFirstResponder and isFirstResponder on its view. Both returned NO.

  • How does one check if a table exists in an Android SQLite database?

    - by camperdave
I have an android app that needs to check if there's already a record in the database, and if not, process some things and eventually insert it, and simply read the data from the database if the data does exist. I'm using a subclass of SQLiteOpenHelper to create and get a rewritable instance of SQLiteDatabase, which I thought automatically took care of creating the table if it didn't already exist (since the code to do that is in the onCreate(...) method). However, when the table does NOT yet exist, and the first method ran upon the SQLiteDatabase object I have is a call to query(...), my logcat shows an error of "I/Database(26434): sqlite returned: error code = 1, msg = no such table: appdata", and sure enough, the appdata table isn't being created. Any ideas on why? I'm looking for either a method to test if the table exists (because if it doesn't, the data's certainly not in it, and I don't need to read it until I write to it, which seems to create the table properly), or a way to make sure that it gets created, and is just empty, in time for that first call to query(...)

  • UIScrollView subviews not showing at first

    - by igul222
I created a custom UIScrollView subclass that works a like a UITableView, keeping a collection of subviews and re-using them whenever the user scrolls. It's implemented like this: -(void)layoutSubviews { for(UIView *subview in [self subviews]) [subview removeFromSuperview]; // then re-add subviews after changing the frame and some attributes } This works fine with simple UIViews, but when I try to do it with a UIView that has a UILabel subview, the "base" view appears fine, but the UILabel doesn't show up at all. I can get the UILabel to show up by scrolling the entire UIView off screen and then bringing it back on. What could be causing this? So far, I've tried calling [myUIView setNeedsLayout], [myUIView setNeedsDisplay], and [myUIView layoutIfNeeded] from various places. None of them worked, and the last one crashed my app. I've also done the same thing to myUIScrollViewSubclass, with similar results.

  • Reference from UITableViewCell to UITableView to UINavigationController

    - by Nick
If the user taps and holds on a Foo table view cell for 2 seconds, a modal view should be shown. The modal view is also displayed when a new Foo is added to the cell. The modal view's delegate protocol is implemented by the parent UITableView subclass. My tap and hold detection code is in the Foo UITableViewCell class. I'm having difficulty referencing the parent tableview's navigation controller to display the modal view. FooModalViewController *modalController = [[FooModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FooModalViewController" bundle:nil]; FooTableViewController *tableView = (FooTableViewController *) self.superview; foo.delegate = tableView; Seems OK but I'm having problems referencing the navigation controller that contains the tableview.. The code below builds OK but throws an exception - NSOBject DoesNotRecognizeSelector. UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:modalController]; [[tableView.navigationController] presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; I think that perhaps my design is flawed..?

  • Cannot bind text field to selected item in JTable in NetBeans

    - by titaniumdecoy
I am trying to use NetBeans to bind a JTextField to the selected element of a JTable. The JTable gets its data from an AbstractTableModel subclass which returns Cow objects. At present, each Cow object is displayed as a string through its toString method. The binding seems obvious but does not work; the bound value of the text field is always null. I bound the text property of the JTextField in NetBeans to: flowTable[${selectedElement.prefix}] This produces the following line of generated code: org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Binding binding = org.jdesktop.beansbinding.Bindings.createAutoBinding( org.jdesktop.beansbinding.AutoBinding.UpdateStrategy.READ_WRITE, flowTable, org.jdesktop.beansbinding.ELProperty.create("${selectedElement.prefix}"), courseNameTextField, org.jdesktop.beansbinding.BeanProperty.create("text")); What am I doing wrong?

  • WPF DataGrid duplicates new row when new item is attached to the source collection.

  • Ext GWT (GXT) tooltip over a grid row

    - by Eduardo Palma
I'm developing a custom tooltip using Ext GWT (GXT) for a project of mine, and this tooltip has to appear over Grid rows when they're selected. I can't use the default GXT tooltip or quicktip because I need be able to add Components (like buttons) to this tooltip. The problem is that the GXT Grid component doesn't expose a event related to mousing over a row (although there's RowClick and RowMouseDown). I tried adding a listener to the Grid with the OnMouseOver and OnMouseOut events anyway, but it doesn't work as expected. It fires these events up whenever you mouse over any of the divs and spans that composes a row. The only way I see to solve this is to subclass the GridView component and make each row become a Component itself, but that would be a lot of work and would probably impact performance as well. I can't help but think there's a better way to do this. Could someone more experienced with GXT give me a light?

  • Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the didSelectRowAtIndexPath moethod?

    - by John Wells
I am having an odd problem when searching a UITableView using a UISearchDisplayController. The UITableViewController is a subclass of another UITableViewController with a working didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Without searching the controller handles selections fine, sending the superclass a didSelectRowAtIndexPath call, but if I select a cell when searching the superclass receives nothing but the cell is highlighted. Below is the code from my subclass. @implementation AdvancedViewController @synthesize searchDisplayController, dict, filteredList; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Programmatically set up search bar UISearchBar *mySearchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] init]; mySearchBar.delegate = self; [mySearchBar setAutocapitalizationType:UITextAutocapitalizationTypeNone]; [mySearchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = mySearchBar; // Programmatically set up search display controller searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:mySearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; // Parse data from server NSData * jsonData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; NSArray * items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray:[[CJSONDeserializer deserializer] deserializeAsArray:jsonData error:nil]]; // Init variables dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; listIndex = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; fullList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; filteredList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Get each item and format it for the UI for(NSMutableArray * item in items) { // Get the first letter NSString * firstKey = [[[item objectAtIndex:0] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0,1)] uppercaseString]; // Put symbols and numbers in the same section if ([[firstKey stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[[NSCharacterSet letterCharacterSet] invertedSet]] isEqualToString:@""]) firstKey = @"#"; // If there isn't a section with this key if (![listIndex containsObject:firstKey]) { // Add the key to the index for faster access (because it's already sorted) [listIndex addObject:firstKey]; // Add the key to the unordered dictionary [dict setObject:[NSMutableArray array] forKey:firstKey]; } // Add the object to the dictionary [[dict objectForKey:firstKey] addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; // Add the object to the list for simple searching [fullList addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; } filteredList = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[fullList count]]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view data source // Custom method for object oriented data access - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView dataForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath withKey:(NSString *)key { return (NSString *)((tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) ? • TTPhotoViewController: Images not loading until swipe

    - by Raj
Hi, I am trying to implement TTPhotoViewController in a sample iPad application. I have implemented properly TTPhotoSource and TTPhoto protocols. The TTPhotoViewController does show image, but not until swiped. The right and left button in the tab bar below doesnt seem to work at all, they never change the image displayed. The UIActivityIndicatorView is never put up, nor the right and left buttons are validated when last or first images are reached. I am initializing the subclass of TTPhotoViewController as a rootViewController of a UINavigationController object which I am adding it onto a view. This rules out the possibility of the problem faced here: http://three20.stackexchange.com/questions/78/ttphotoviewcontroller-not-loading-images-immediately What else am I missing? Anybody faced similar problems and found a way around? Thanks, Raj

  • Dolphin Smalltalk - adding method

    - by bialpio
Hi, I am trying to create a custom class in Dolphin Smalltalk. When I open the Workspace, type in and evaluate the code: Object subclass: #Sudoku instanceVariableNames: 'board' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'JiPP SudokuSolver'. everything works fine and the class is created and visible from Class Browser. The problem is, I want to add custom member method to this class, but without using Class Browser. Is it possible from the Workspace? I want to have one file with all the source code, so I don't have to worry about saving entire image.

  • Why is -[UISwitch superlayer] being called?

    - by Jonathan Sterling
I've got sort of a crazy thing going on where I have an NSProxy subclass standing in for a UISwitch. Messages sent to the proxy are forwarded to the switch. Please don't comment on whether or not this is a good design, because in context, it makes sense as an incredibly cool thing. The dealio is that when I try to add this object as an accessory view to a UITableViewCell, I get the following crash: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[UISwitch superlayer]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5889740' Yes, I could just set the proxy's target as the accessory view, but then I would have to keep track of the proxy so that I could release it at the right time. So, what I really want is to be able to have the proxy retained by the table cell, and released when it is removed from the view just like a normal accessory view. So, why is -[UISwitch superlayer] (a method which does not exist) being called, and how do I save the world?

  • Animating a CALayer's mask size change

    - by Alexander Repty
I have a UIView subclass which uses a CAShapeLayer mask on its CALayer. The mask uses a distinct shape, with three rounded corners and a cut out rectangle in the remaining corner. When I resize my UIView using a standard animation block, the UIView itself and its CALayer resize just fine. The mask, however, is applied instantly, which leads to some drawing issues. I've tried animating the mask's resizing using a CABasicAnimation but didn't have any luck getting the resizing animated. Can I somehow achieve an animated resizing effect on the mask? Do I need to get rid of the mask, or will I have to change something about the way I currently draw the mask (using - (void)drawInContext:(CGContextRef)ctx). Cheers, Alex

  • UITableView background customization strange behavior

    - by Omer
Hi, There is a couple of hours that I'm trying to set a tableView background image. My controller is a subclass of UITableViewController, and I simply wrote this lines of code in ViewDidLoad method. UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"home-portrait-iphone.png"]; UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; Everything looks great on the simulator, I mean, I see my table and as background view, y can see the image. But when the app is running on the device (ipod touch), I get this error: Program received signal: “SIGABRT”. and the stack says: * -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00 Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '** -[UITableView setBackgroundView:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x812e00' and the exception is thrown in the assignment, a mean this line: self.tableView.backgroundView = imageView; any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  • Python: Inheritance of a class attribute (list)

    - by Sano98
Hi everyone, inheriting a class attribute from a super class and later changing the value for the subclass works fine: class Unit(object): value = 10 class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.value print Archer.value Archer.value = 5 print Unit.value print Archer.value leads to the output: 10 10 10 5 which is just fine: Archer inherits the value from Unit, but when I change Archer's value, Unit's value remains untouched. Now, if the inherited value is a list, the shallow copy effect strikes and the value of the superclass is also affected: class Unit(object): listvalue = [10] class Archer(Unit): pass print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Archer.listvalue[0] = 5 print Unit.listvalue print Archer.listvalue Output: 10 10 5 5 Is there a way to "deep copy" a list when inheriting it from the super class? Many thanks Sano

  • C#: Semantics for generics?

    - by Rosarch
I have a list: private readonly IList<IList<GameObjectController>> removeTargets; PickUp inherits from GameObjectController. But when I try this: public IList<PickUp> Inventory // ... gameObjectManager.MoveFromListToWorld(this, user.Model.Inventory); I get a compiler error: cannot convert from 'System.Collections.Generic.IList' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IList' Why does this occur? Shouldn't this be fine, since PickUp is a subclass of GameObjectController? Do I need something like Java's Map<E extends GameObjectController>? Earlier, I was having a similar problem, where I was trying to implicitly cast inventory from an IList to an ICollection. Is this the same problem?

  • Adding a subview to UITableCellView

    - by hanno
I want to add a subview to my UITableCellView subclass. However, non of the provided views in the class seem to be able to do exactly what I was looking for. I basically want to add my own background view, filling the whole cell. However, if I replace the backgroundView, the style from the grouped table view layout isn't displayed anymore. If I add a subview to backgroundView, the subview is not shown at all. If I add a subview to the contentView, I can't draw behind the accessory icon. What am I missing?

  • Iphone build error - literal-pointer symbol(s) not found

    - by Nick
Sorry I imagine I'm missing something basic here. Before I write up a bunch of details on the specifics of the class I'd appreciate a nudge or smack on the head about the meaning of this build error. I have a subclass of NSObject SiteAnnotation that should be conforming to the MKAnnotation protocol. It is #imported in the ViewController in question When I try to alloc/init: SiteAnnotation *thisAnnotation = [[SiteAnnotation alloc] init]; This is the build error which occurs: Link /build/Debug-iphonesimulator/testbed.app/testbed ".objc_class_name_SiteAnnotation", referenced from: literal-pointer@__OBJC@__cls_refs@SiteAnnotation in MapViewController.o Symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Any tips appreciated.

  • Aaron Hillegass Chapter 18 Challenge Question

    - by jasonbogd
I am working through Aaron Hillegass' Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X and am doing the challenge for Chapter 18. Basically, the challenge is to write an app that can draw ovals using your mouse, and then additionally, add saving/loading and undo support. I'm trying to think of a good class design for this app that follows MVC. Here's what I had in mind: Have a NSView-subclass that represents an oval (say JBOval) that I can use to easily draw an oval. Have a main view (JBDrawingView) that holds JBOvals and draws them. The thing is that I wasn't sure how to add archiving. Should I archive each JBOval? I think this would work, but archiving an NSView doesn't seem very efficient. Any ideas on a better class design? Thanks.

My draw() is not called neither from setDrawingCacheEnabled(), nor from getDrawingCache(). Please, what am I doing wrong?

  • Interface Builder: Resize View From NIB

    - by alexey
I have a custom UIViewController and a corresponding view in a nib file. The view is added to the UIWindow directly. [window addSubview:customViewController.view]; Sizes of the window and the view are default (480x320 and 460x320 correspondingly). When I create CustomViewController inside the nib file and check "Resize View From NIB" in IB Attributes tab everything works just fine. But when I create CustomViewController programmmatically with initWithNibName message the view is not positioned on the window correctly. There is an empty stripe at the bottom. Its height is 20px. I see it's because of status bar offset. IB handles that with "Resize View From NIB". How to emulate that programmatically? It seems that IB uses some custom subclass of UIViewController. So the question: how is "Resize View From NIB" implemented there?

  • Javassist: how to create proxy of proxy?

    - by Bozho
I'm creating proxies with javassist ProxyFactory. When creating a single proxy all works fine. However, when I pass a proxied class to the proxying mechanism, it fails with javassist.bytecode.DuplicateMemberException: duplicate method: setHandler in com.mypackage.Bean_$$_javassist_0_$$_javassist_1 I'm creating the proxies with this: public Object createProxiedInstance(Object originalInstance) throws Exception { Class<?> originalClass = instance.getClass(); ProxyFactory factory = new ProxyFactory(); factory.setSuperclass(originalClass); factory.setHandler(new MethodHandler() {..}); Class<T> proxyClass = factory.createClass(); return proxyClass.newInstance(); } So, how do I create proxies of proxies? Update: The actual problems is that each proxy implements the ProxyObject which defines setHandler(..) method. So the 2nd proxy is trying to redefine the method, instead of overriding it in the subclass.
