  • How to create a closure and pass in variable length argument list?

    - by Jian Lin
    We can create a closure p by capturing the arguments in the scope in the following code: var p = function() { }; if (typeof(console) != 'undefined' && console.log) { p = function() { console.log(arguments); }; } but the arguments are passed like an array to console.log, instead of passed one by one as in console.log(arguments[0], arguments[1], arguments[2], ... Is there a way to expand the arguments and pass to console.log like the way above? Note that p = console.log; works well in Firefox and IE 8 but not on Chrome.

  • Java / Android self naming

    - by ngreenwood6
    I am about to start developing an Android application and had a question if in Java there self naming. For instance say I had a variable named dog that held the value of scruffy. Could I then create a variable named scruffy from that variable. In PHP it would be $$dog. That would make a variable with the name scruffy. If this is possible please provide example

  • PHP: Over-writing session variables

    - by Tom
    Hi, Question related to PHP memory-handling from someone not yet very experienced in PHP: If I set a PHP session variable of a particular name, and then set a session variable of the exact same name elsewhere (during the same session), is the original variable over-written, or does junk accumulate in the session? In other words, should I be destroying a previous session variable before creating a new one of the same name? Thank you.

  • Who "invented" i,j,k as integer counter variable names? [closed]

    - by mjy
    Possible Duplicate: Why are we using i as a counter in loops I've used these myself for more than 15 years but cannot really remember how/where I picked up that habit. As it is really widespread, I'm curious to know who originally suggested / recommended using these names for integer loop counters (was it the K&R book?).

  • Use jQuery on a variable instead on the DOM ? [solved]

    - by Stef
    In jQuery you can do : $("a[href$='.img']").each(function(index) { alert($(this).attr('href')); } I want to write a jQuery function which crawls x-levels from a website and collects all hrefs to gif images. So when I use the the get function to retrieve another page, $.get(href, function(data) { }); I want to be able to do something like data.$("a[href$='.img']").each(function(index) { }); Is this possible ? ...UPDATE... Thanks to the answers, I was able to fix this problem. function FetchPage(href) { $.ajax({ url: href, async: false, cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#__tmp__").append("<page><name>" + href + "</name><content>" + html + "</content></page>"); } }); } See this zip file for an example how to use it.

  • Controlling ASP.NET output cache memory usage

    - by Josh Einstein
    I would like to use output caching with WCF Data Services and although there's nothing specifically built in to support caching, there is an OnStartProcessingRequest method that allows me to hook in and set the cacheability of the request using normal ASP.NET mechanisms. But I am worried about the worker process getting recycled due to excessive memory consumption if large responses are cached. Is there a way to specify an upper limit for the ASP.NET output cache so that if this limit is exceeded, items in the cache will be discarded? I've seen the caching configuration settings but I get the impression from the documentation that this is for explicit caching via the Cache object since there is a separate outputCacheSettings which has no memory-related attributes. Here's a code snippet from Scott Hanselman's post that shows how I'm setting the cacheability of the request. protected override void OnStartProcessingRequest(ProcessRequestArgs args) { base.OnStartProcessingRequest(args); //Cache for a minute based on querystring HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current; HttpCachePolicy c = HttpContext.Current.Response.Cache; c.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.ServerAndPrivate); c.SetExpires(HttpContext.Current.Timestamp.AddSeconds(60)); c.VaryByHeaders["Accept"] = true; c.VaryByHeaders["Accept-Charset"] = true; c.VaryByHeaders["Accept-Encoding"] = true; c.VaryByParams["*"] = true; }

  • Static variable definition order in c++

    - by rafeeq
    Hi i have a class tools which has static variable std::vector m_tools. Can i insert the values into the static variable from Global scope of other classes defined in other files. Example: tools.h File class Tools { public: static std::vector<std::vector> m_tools; void print() { for(int i=0 i< m_tools.size() ; i++) std::cout<<"Tools initialized :"<< m_tools[i]; } } tools.cpp File std::vector<std::vector> Tools::m_tools; //Definition Using register class constructor for inserting the new string into static variable. class Register { public: Register(std::string str) { Tools::m_tools.pushback(str); } }; Different class which inserts the string to static variable in static variable first_tool.cpp //Global scope declare global register variable Register a("first_tool"); //////// second_tool.cpp //Global scope declare global register variable Register a("second_tool"); Main.cpp void main() { Tools abc; abc.print(); } Will this work? In the above example on only one string is getting inserted in to the static list. Problem look like "in Global scope it tries to insert the element before the definition is done" Please let me know is there any way to set the static definiton priority? Or is there any alternative way of doing the same.

  • In search of a network file system with extended caching to speed up file access

    - by Brecht Machiels
    I'm running a small home server that stores my documents. The disks in this server are in a RAID 1 configuration (using Linux md) and it's also periodically being backup up to an external hard drive to make sure I don't lose them. However, I'm always accessing the files from other computers on the home network using an SMB share, and this results in a considerable speed penalty (especially when connected over WLAN). This is quite annoying when editing large files, such as digital camera RAWs, for example. I've been looking for a solution to this problem. It would have to offer some kind of local caching to speed up the file access. The client would preferably not keep a copy of all data on the server, as it consists of a very large collection of photographs, most of which I will not access frequently. Instead, it should only cache the accessed files and sync the changes back in the background. Ideally, it would also do some smart read-ahead (cache the files that are in the same directory as the currently opened file, for examples), but I suppose that's asking a bit much. Synchronization should be automatic (on file change). Conflicting file changes (at the same time on different clients) are unlikely to happen in my use case, but I would prefer if they are handled properly (notification to the user). I've come across the following options, so far: something similar to Dropbox. iFolder seems to be the only thing that comes close, but its reputation (stability) and requirements put me off. A distributed file system such as OpenAFS. I'm not sure this will speed up file access. It is probably overkill for what I need. Maybe NFS or even Samba offer these possibilities. I read a bit about Windows' Offline Files, but its operation seems limited (at least on Windows XP). As this is just for personal use, I'm not willing to spend a lot of money. A free solution would be preferred. Also, the server needs to run on Linux, and I need a client for at least Windows.

  • Output Caching with IIS7 - How To for an dynamic aspx page?

    - by Lieven Cardoen
    I have a RetrieveBlob.aspx that gets some query string variables and returns an asset. Eeach url corresponds to a unique asset. In the RetrieveBlob.aspx a Cache Profile is set. In Web.Config the profile looks like (under system.web tag: <caching> <outputCache enableOutputCache="true" /> <outputCacheSettings> <outputCacheProfiles> <add duration="14800" enabled="true" varyByParam="*" name="AssetCacheProfile" /> </outputCacheProfiles> </outputCacheSettings> </caching> Ok, this works fine. When I put a breakpoint in the code behind of RetrieveBlob.aspx, it gets triggered the first time, and all the other times not. Now, I throw away the Cache Profile and instead I'm having this in my Web.Config under System.WebServer: <caching> <profiles> <add extension=".swf" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".flv" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".gif" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".png" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".mp3" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".jpeg" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> <add extension=".jpg" policy="CacheForTimePeriod" kernelCachePolicy="CacheForTimePeriod" duration="00:08:00" /> </profiles> </caching> Now the caching doesn't work anymore. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to configure under Caching tag of System.WebServer a Caching Profile for a Dynamic aspx page?

  • How can I configure apache to cache the images that it is serving? Right now it is giving headers t

    - by Tchalvak
    Serving up images that don't seem to cache There's a LAPP (postgresql instead of mysql) running over on http://ninjawars.net. I just recently noticed that images don't seem to be caching with any kind of good frequency as I was reloading a page with a few images on it here: http://www.ninjawars.net/attack_player.php Here is an example image (they're probably all being served exactly the same): http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png Checking the header, it seems that the caching is set to: Cache-Control:max-age=0 (the full header for this image-like-all-the-others is... Request URL:http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png Request Method:GET Status Code:200 OK Request Headers Accept:application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,/;q=0.5 Cache-Control:max-age=0 Referer:http://www.ninjawars.net/images/characters/fighter.png User-Agent:Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.3 Safari/533.4 Response Headers Accept-Ranges:bytes Content-Length:938 Content-Type:image/png Date:Thu, 13 May 2010 21:24:07 GMT ETag:"ffd4d-3aa-4837efc120540" Last-Modified:Mon, 05 Apr 2010 15:28:45 GMT Server:Apache ) So what modules or config or htaccess or whatever do I change to have it cache images, e.g. for 24 hours?

  • APC (php accelerator). What situations should I use this?

    - by matthewsteiner
    So I've just got a small vps. I've installed apc, which sped up normal pages by 20% - 30%. I was reading about memcached and came to the conclusion that I can use apc for the same thing (caching objects from database results) if I'm not distributing over other servers. Since I only have the one server, apc will be just as beneficial for caching things in memory. I'm still in development mode, and I'm sure it's hard to tell what would be best for production mode. The thing is, my database queries seem pretty fast (between .0008 and .02). None of my pages are way database intensive. Would it be beneficial to me to cache results in memory? If the database is running well right now, is it going to be having a hard time later? Also, is connecting to the database at all something that costs speed (even if I cache most of my queries, every page has to have a little database interaction for session data). So, basically if I have a limited ram, and one machine, will using apc rather than just letting the database be uncached be much faster? Ideas?

  • Squid not caching files (Randomly)

    - by Heinrich
    I want to use an intercepting squid server to cache specific large zip files that users in my network download frequently. I have configured squid on a gateway machine and caching is working for "static" zip files that are served from an Apache web server outside our network. The files that I want to have cached by squid are zip files 100MB which are served from a heroku-hosted Rails application. I set an ETag header (SHA hash of the zip file on the server) and Cache-Control: public header. However, these files are not cached by squid. This, for example, is a request that is not cached: $ curl --no-keepalive -v -o test.zip --header "X-Access-Key: 20767ed397afdea90601fda4513ceb042fe6ab4e51578da63d3bc9b024ed538a" --header "X-Customer: 5" "http://MY_APP.herokuapp.com/api/device/v1/media/download?version=latest" * Adding handle: conn: 0x7ffd4a804400 * Adding handle: send: 0 * Adding handle: recv: 0 ... > GET /api/device/v1/media/download?version=latest HTTP/1.1 > User-Agent: curl/7.30.0 > Host: MY_APP.herokuapp.com > Accept: */* > X-Access-Key: 20767ed397afdea90601fda4513ceb042fe6ab4e51578da63d3bc9b024ed538a > X-Customer: 5 > 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- 0:00:09 --:--:-- 0< HTTP/1.1 200 OK * Server Cowboy is not blacklisted < Server: Cowboy < Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2014 14:13:27 GMT < Status: 200 OK < X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN < X-Xss-Protection: 1; mode=block < X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff < ETag: "95e888938c0d539b8dd74139beace67f" < Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="e7cce850ae728b81fe3f315d21a560af.zip" < Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary < Content-Length: 125727431 < Content-Type: application/zip < Cache-Control: public < X-Request-Id: 7ce6edb0-013a-4003-a331-94d2b8fae8ad < X-Runtime: 1.244251 < X-Cache: MISS from AAA.fritz.box < Via: 1.1 vegur, 1.1 AAA.fritz.box (squid/3.3.11) < Connection: keep-alive In the logs squid is reporting a TCP_MISS.   • How do I reduce number of redundant requests with mod_perl properly?

    - by rassie
    In a fairly big legacy project, I've refactored several hairy modules into Moose classes. Each of these modules requires database access to (lazy) fetch its attributes. Since those objects are used pretty heavily, I want to reduce the number of redundant requests, for example for unchanged data. Now, how do I do that properly? I've got several alternatives: Implement caching in my Moose classes via a role to store them in memcached with expiration of 5-10 minutes (probably not too difficult, but tricky with lazy attributes) update: KiokuDB could probably help here, have to read up about attributes Migrate to DBIx::Class (needs to be done anyway) and implement caching on this level (DBIC will probably take most of the pain away just by itself) Somehow make my objects persist inside the mod_perl process (no clue how to do this :() How would you do this and what do you consider a sane way? Is caching data preferred on object or the ORM level?

  • Sending variable to $.getScript

    - by oshirowanen
    Is it possible to send a variable to the script loaded using $.getScript? At the moment I have: $.getScript( "js/my_script.js", function() { // do something here after script has loaded }); But I want to send a variable to the loaded script. Is this possible, if yes, how? For example // this is a variable set outside of the script loaded via `$.getScript` var my_variable = 1 // how do I get that variable sent to `my_script.js` $.getScript( "my_script.js", function() { // do something here after script has loaded });

  • AutoComplete and VS2010 Internal WebDevServer caching ?

    - by Renshai
    Ok this is a simple setup: DB has a view with personnel who have not been added to the system. The AutoComplete dynamically lists a numeric column field from the view. (Using Linq2SQL) (with autotracking off) Once this number is consumed - a refresh is done on the sqlserver's view. The Problem: This number still shows up in the Autocomplete UNTIL the VS WebDev Server is closed. Question: Why is the WebDev caching the data? I have tried turning off viewstate of the textbox, turned off caching on the autocompleteextender, to no avail. Any help please ...

  • Caching asp.net viewdata

    - by Tomh
    Hey guys, I'm currently thinking about caching most of my viewdata excpt user specific data after a user logs on. I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach? Are there better ways? string cacheKey = "Nieuws/show/" + id; if (HttpRuntime.Cache[cacheKey] != null) { ViewData = HttpRuntime.Cache[cacheKey] as ViewDataDictionary; } else { // add stuff to view data HttpRuntime.Cache.Insert(cacheKey, ViewData, null, DateTime.Now.AddSeconds(180), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.NotRemovable, null); }

  • Should I go with Varnish instead of nginx?

    - by gotts
    I really like nginx. But recently I've found that varnish gives you an opportunity to implement smart caching revers proxy layer(with URL purging). I have a cluster of mongrels which are pretty resource-intensive so if this caching layer can remove some load from mongrels this can be a great thing. I didn't find a way to implement the caching layer(with for application pages; static content is cacheable of course) same with nginx.. Should I use Varnish instead? What would you recommend?
