csutom converter in XStream

Hi All, I am using XStream to serialize my Objects to XML format. The formatted xml that I get is as below: node1, node2, node 3 are attributes of pojo,DetailDollars 100 25 10 I have requirement where in I have to calucluate a percentage, for example 100/ 25 and add the new node to the existing ones. So, the final output should be : 100 25 10 4 I wrote a custom converter and registered to my xstream object. public void marshal(..){ writer.startNode("node4"); writer.setValue(getNode1()/ getnode2() ); writer.endNode(); } But, the xml stream I get has only the new node: 4 I am not sure which xstream api would get me the desired format. could you please help me with this . Hello All, I am trying to write a webservice that takes in an XML string, does parsing of it using DOM and extract particular things I want. My XML string happens to be very long so I do not want to pass it as a @QueryParam or @PathParam. Say If I write that XML string into a file, How do I go about writing a RESTful service that takes in this file, extracts whatever I want and return the results. I am actually trying to extract some number of strings, so my output should probably be an ArrayList having all these strings. Could somebody please shed some light on how I should go about doing this. Thanks in advance

C# .Net file in use issue

I'm having an issue opening files that have recently been closed by the .Net framework. Basically, what happens is the following: -Read in an XML file using DataSet.ReadXml() -Make some changes to the data -Write out the XML file using DataSet.WriteXml() -Copy the XML file to a new location using File.Copy -FTP the file using a custom control This sequence can intermittently fail either after the WriteXML or the File.Copy with a file in use exception. I'm guessing it could be the Windows write cache not flushing right away. Can anyone confirm that this could be causing my issue? Any solutions to suggest? Thanks, Dan

Is there a way to export an XSD schema from a DataContract

I'm using DataContractSerializer to serialize/deserialize my classes to/from XML. Everything works fine, but at some point I'd like to establish a standard schema for the format of these XML files independent of the actual code. That way if something breaks in the serialization process I can always go back and check what the standard schema should be. Or if I do need to modify the schema the modification is an explicit decision rather then just a later affect of modifying my code. In addition, other people may be writing other software that may not be .NET based that would need to read from these XML files. I'd like to be able to provide them with some kind of documentation of the schema. Is there some relationship between a DataContract and an XSD schema. Is there a way to export the DataContract attributes in classes as an XSD schema?

Rails Action and Fragment Caching during Development?

I'm just starting to get into Rails caching and am wondering how to test whether or not caching is working in my development environment. I have set these two config variables for both the development (temporarily) and production environments: config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_controller.page_cache_directory = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'public', 'cache') And my controller basically looks like this (using the resource_controller gem): class EventsController < Spree::BaseController resource_controller caches_page :index index.response do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @collection.to_xml } end # ... end If I do that, I get these files: public/cache/events.html public/cache/events.xml But when I change caches_page to caches_action, I don't see any generated files and am not sure how to tell if the response has been cached. What do I need to know to know that this is working? I've read the docs and related, the rails caching guides, the railscast, and a few other docs, but I'm still wondering where everything is stored. Is there a quicker way? Speed seems to be a bit slow on it as it pulls down the entire feed before parsing.

Account preferences crashes on ListPreference

I have created an account type using the AccountAuthenticator stuff as done in the SampleSyncAdapter tutorial. I am now trying to get account preferences working. I have added the line android:accountPreferences="@xml/account_preferences" to my account-authenticator and account_preferences.xml looks like so: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <PreferenceCategory android:title="@string/alum_settings_title"/> <CheckBoxPreference android:key="sync_alum" android:title="@string/sync_alum" android:summaryOn="@string/sync_alum_check" android:summaryOff="@string/sync_alum_nocheck"/> <ListPreference android:key="sync_alum_since" android:title="@string/alum_years" android:entries="@array/years" android:entryValues="@array/years" android:dependency="sync_alum"/> </PreferenceScreen> The checkbox preference works exactly like it should but the ListPreference crashes the entire system with the following message: 05-14 22:32:16.794: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(63): android.view.WindowManager$BadTokenException: Unable to add window -- token null is not for an application I get the same error with EditTextPreference and with the custom subclass of DialogPreference I created.

AJAX vs AHAH Is there a performance advantage?

My concern is performance, is there a reason to to send the client XML instead of valid HTML? Like most things, I am sure it is application dependent. My specific situation is where there is substantial content being inserted into the web page that has been pulled from a database. What are the advantages of either approach? Is the size of the content even a concern? Or, in the case of using XML, will the time for the Javascript to process the XML into HTML counterbalance the extra time that would have been required to send HTML to start with? Thanks, Jeff

Say you have a one to one relationship in your entity model. The code generator will decorate it with the following attributes: [global::System.Xml.Serialization.XmlIgnoreAttribute()] [global::System.Xml.Serialization.SoapIgnoreAttribute()] public RelatedObject Relationship { get {...} set {...} } I want to serialize my parent object together with all its properties for which data has been loaded through an XML web service. Obviously, these related properties do not get serialized because of these attributes. So for my purposes I just want to remove these "don't serialize me" attributes. I can do a find and replace in the designer code, but any modifications I make in the designer will put these attributes back in. How do I permanently get rid of these attributes? VS 2008 / EF 3.5.

The incoming message needs to be logged for debug inspection. Hosting a WCF service in a Windows service. Works, but I can't reach it from Silverlight.

I've made me an application hosted WCF service for my Silverlight application to consume. When I host the WCF service in a forms application everything works fine. But when I host my WCF service in a windows service (as explained brilliantly here) I get the dreaded 'NotFound' Web Exception when I call it from Silverlight. The 'WCF Test Client' tool does not complain. I'm' exposing a decent clientaccesspolicy.xml at root. Yet Silverlight won't have it. I'm stumped. Anybody have an idea about what could be going on here?

Can't create flex4 project in flexbuilder using remoting or LiveCycle Data Servcies ES

I'm trying out the FlasBuilder ide with ColdFusion 8 on OS X. When I try to create a new project, I get stuck at the server setup screen that forces you to validate your paths for your ColdFusion root folder and your webroot. Every combination I try says either "LiveCycle Data Services is not installed at the specified location" or "Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml." The flex-config.xml file is sitting in that directory. Is there some trick to getting this to work?

(The above is a paraphrased example taken from one of the 2008 SummerofNHibernate videos) I cannot find any examples of how to do this with fluent (even in C#), is it possible? If it isn't is there a VB example of how to mix Fluent and .hbm.xml

Help with parsing lxml

Hi To implement a college project, I need to handle XML files. For this I choose lxml after doing some research. However I can't seem to find some nice tutorial to help me get started. I can't choose most specifically which type of parsing I need to use. My XML files don't have that much data but speed is main concern, not memory. Can anyone point me to some tutorial that would help me or some book that I can lookup? I have already tried the tutorial on lxml site but that didn't help me much. Is there some small application I can look up to get a hang of parsing XML with lxml

AS3 Pass FlashVars to loaded swf

Hi I have a A.swf which loads B.swf onto a movieclip and needs to pass it some FlashVars. When loading B.swf with html, I can pass FlashVars fine. When passing from A.swf, it gets a Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: file: The code in A.swf is var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("B.swf"); var variables : URLVariables = new URLVariables(); variables.xml = "test.xml"; // This line causes the error 2044, else B.swf loads fine with FlashVars request.data = variables; loader.load (request); In B.swf, it is checking the Flashvars like so. It works fine from html side this.loaderInfo.parameters.xml

Easy XPath question for iPhone

Hey guys! This is driving me NUTS! Here's my XML document <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <container version="1.0" xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:opendocument:xmlns:container"> <rootfiles> <rootfile full-path="content.opf" media-type="application/oebps-package+xml"/> </rootfiles> </container> All I want to do is get the root file element. I'm using TouchXML on the iPhone and here is my xPath query: /container/rootfiles/rootfile It doesn't work! I've tried everything. Any help would be appreciated... Sam
