  • Can you help me think of problems for my programming language?

    I've created an experimental toy programming language with a (now) working interpreter. It is turing-complete and has a pretty low-level instruction set. Even if everything takes four to six times more code and time than in PHP, Python or Ruby I still love programming all kinds of things in it. So I got the "basic" things that are written in many languages working: Hello World Input - Output Countdowns (not as easy as you think as there are no loops) Factorials Array emulation 99 Bottles of Beer (simple, wrong inflection) 99 Bottles of Beer (canonical) Conjatz conjecture Quine (that was a fun one!) Brainf*ck interpreter (To proof turing-completeness, made me happy) So I implemented all of the above examples because: They all used many different aspects of the language They are pretty interesting They don't take hours to write Now my problem is: I've run out of ideas! I don't find any more examples of what problems I could solve using my language. Do you have any programming problems which fit into some of the criteria above for me to work out?

  • Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

    I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so?     Advice needed for backend form submission to aweber and get response. Scenario When customer signup at my form, I will 1. insert the customer details into my own database, 2. send them a welcome email from my system, 3. at the same time I want the email to be added into aweber (this should run in the background, so that customer no need to fill in details for second time) If I use the php curl call alone, is it a good solution? I want to submit form value to aweber, so that aweber add the new email into their system, and then response to my backend script?     I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem.   • Use absolute path for easier modify include path in future?

    config.php put at the root level, this file will be included in any pages. Then at config.php <?php define( 'ROOT_DIR', dirname(__FILE__) ); ?> So at all other pages from different sub/a.php , sub/sub/b.php directories, when I want to include a specific file in specific location, I just need to include( ROOT_DIR.'/include/functions.php' ); In windows server, the ROOT_DIR bring the value to C:/inetpub/vhosts/domain.com Is this a good/secure way? It seems like via this way, when I move the b.php to other upper level folder, I don't need to do any changes to the include file path, which is good for maintenance. Any cons? Like SEO wise, or any other reason... What you guys think.

Enable CIFS access to a cloud-server based installation of Alfresco Allow Eventual implementation of some form of single-sign-on ( OpenLDAP server ) access to Alfresco and other server applications implemented in the future Given: All Servers will live in the public internet cloud (Rackspace Cloud Servers) OpenVPN Server will be a Linux disto, probably Ubuntu 9.x, installed on same server as Alfresco (at least to start) Staff will access server applications and resources from client sites, hotels, trains, planes, coffee shops or their homes over various ISP, using their company laptops or personal home desktops.   • Help! I've learned jQuery... now I want to learn JavaScript

    I am a self-taught web developer/programmer. I started out about two years ago by learning how to make simple dynamic websites with HTML/CSS/PHP. Then I started dabbling with animation... Enter jQuery I've become quite proficient with jQuery over the last year and I've even started making my own plugins. I've spent most of my effort learning how to beautify websites with fancy effects and what not. Upon tackling my first full-blown application, I realized how under-developed my knowledge of JavaScript actually is. jQuery has allowed me to rely on its framework so heavily that I rarely use any interesting functions, techniques, or whatever that are 'native' to the JavaScript language. For example: I have a basic understanding of what a closure is... but I am unsure where this technique can actually benefit me. Although as I understand it, that's what my jQuery plugins do with (function ($){//plugin code here})(jQuery). I've seen many posts/blogs/whatever about memory leaks and circular references which is concerning. I'm frustrated because I can wrap my head around the basic concepts of what these are just by reading the articles, but I'm finding that the deeper I go the more I don't understand. The vocabulary alone is burdensome. Let alone how to actually use these techniques/functions/language features. I am trying to figure out what I don't know I'm looking to gather any advice, techniques, articles, books, videos, snippets, examples, potential pitfalls... really anything you have regarding application development with JavaScript/jQuery.

  • Zend Framework - tinyMCE - plugin folders are mistaken to be controllers? Help

    Hi guys I'm trying to integrate the tinymce plugin however I'm running into problems such that almost every feature which requires a plugin to be rendered i.e the add url popup or add image pop up - it opens an empty pop up window. Even if I try to open it inline I get the same blank popup window.. I noticed that whenever I click on lets say url button in tinymCE it opens with reference to my localhost and because of that I'm assuming my application is mistaking the containing javascript folder to be some controller or action. How can I fix this please - I've set up mod rewrite to allow clean urls as well as ignore the javascript folder but this is a different issue altogether :( what should I be looking at here.. Occurs intermittently when rake jobs:work is pulling a command out of delayed_jobs while my status observer is in the process of parsing a log file for detailed results of the previous delayed_job denizen. I have an observer class (in RAILS_ROOT/lib ) which listens for the events, makes a copy of them and calls the owner class ( in apps/models ) which then calls on the log parser (also in /lib) to do the actual work. (Should both of those classes, the observer and the parser be in app/models?) Am due to deliver this application in a few days and this is killing it (and me). Am using DirectoryWatcher to look for flag files that indicate the start and finish of the delayed_jobs.   • Help with ActiveX Install? Merge Modules - Windows Vista and Windows 7

    I'm building an ActiveX control installer in VS2008 which uses both the CRT and MFC merge modules to install. When my control tries to register on Windows 7 it fails. Dependency Walker says I'm missing the mfc90u.dll, msvcr90.dll and msvcp90.dll dependencies when trying to register my control and the install fails. Are the merge modules supposed to take care of this? My output OCX is being registered with the vsdrpCOMSelfReg option. From what I am reading on other forums, this might not be the best method, what should I try at this point? Install works fine on Windows XP.

    Hi, On my form on left side i have tree-view with check-boxes and on right side grid-view with check-box column. Treeview shows all folders. if user clicked on treenode their files all displayed in gridview. If user checked some files and selects another node and return back it should display checked files as it is. How do i maintain grid-view checked-box column status..? One more query If i checked specific node it should checked all rows of a gridview.

I'm getting the following PHP notice randomly: Warning: fopen(http://api.facebook.com/restserver.php? … &v=1.0) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request in D:\projects........\facebookapi_php5_restlib.php on line 3391 As said, it happens randomly. My app configuration: IFrame Page host configuration: Windows Vista, Apache 2.2.11, PHP 5.1 No support for cURL is possible at the moment. My aim: Get the user's first name & pic_square along with two other preferences. If these two preferences are not set then I'll set them, after doing some internal job. I understand that the REST API is old. Which interface should I use then? Saw FQL, which seem to be fine, but I see no corresponding getUserPreference/setUserPreference interface. Where is it? How do I combine it with the "first name & pic_square" info that I need in one query? How do I read the results of multi-query query? Also, if I understand correctly, the FQL is also executed with the fopen() function, and as we see here it might fail. That means something went wrong, and then I want to handle it. Any suggestions how to do so efficiently? Less important than the above question though. Thank you all.

    I need to access an SQL Server that is on a machine behind a firewall and you access this machine using an ip address like 95.95.95.33:6930 (not the real ip address) ... But, you get my point that by accessing 95.95.95.33 on port 6930, the firewall routes the requests to that particular machine ... My question is ... How do you construct a connection string to access the machine at address 95.95.95.33:6930 and then further access the SQL Server on port 1433 or maybe a different port like 8484 ??? Thanks Mike
