  • I think I have multiple postgresql servers installed, how do I identify and delete the 'extra' ones?

    I seem to have a few installations of postgresql on my machine somehow. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or, if Ubuntu for some odd reason duplicates direcotories and keeps them elsewhere. I have a postgresql directory in /etc one in /usr/lib and one in /opt I'm properly confused at this point. How do I go about deleting the extra ones.which ones are he extra one? I also need to make sure that my 'pg' gem in my rails env is pointing towards the correct posgresql db server. Any thoughts on my issue would be huge.

  • Converting encoding of multiple files with iconv (Mac OS)?

    I need to convert a whole bunch of files from Windows-1251 to UTF-8. After doing 10 of them by hand in BBEdit, I got bored ;-) I found out that there is an iconv CL tool. I tried this: iconv -f WINDOWS-1251 -t UTF-8 inputfile However it seems that iconv just outputs the converted text instead of writing it to file. Also, there is no outputfile parameter for it. How do I write the changes back to original files? Thanks. Edit: Please note, that inputfile value is actually *.txt, so the solution has to work with that.

  • nginx, php-fpm, and multiple roots - how to properly try_files?

    I have a server context which is rooted in a login application. The login application handles, well, logins, and then returns a redirect to "/app" on the same server if a login is successful. The application is rooted elsewhere, which is handled by the location block shown here: location ^~ /app { alias /usr/share/nginx/www/website.com/content/public; location ~ \.php$ { try_files $uri =404; fastcgi_pass unix:/tmp/php5-fpm.sock; include fastcgi_params; } } This works just fine, however the $uri getting passed to PHP still contains /app, even though I am using alias rather than root. Because of this, the try_files directive fails to a 404 unless I link app -> ./ in /usr/share/nginx/www/website.com/content/public. It's obviously silly to have that link in there, and if that link ever gets lost, bam dead website without an obvious cause. The next thing I tried... Was to remove the try_files directive entirely. This allowed me to rm the app link in my /public folder, and PHP had no problem locating the file and executing it. I used that to dump my $_SERVER global from PHP, and found that "SCRIPT_FILENAME" => "/usr/share/nginx/www/website.com/content/public/index.php" when the browser URI is /app. This is exactly right. Based on my fastcgi_params below, this led me to beleive that try_files $request_filename =404; should work, but no dice. nginx still doesn't find the file, and returns 404. So for right now, it will only work without any try_files directive. PHP finds the file, whereas try_files could not. I understand this may be a PHP security risk. Can anyone indicate how to move forward?   • What kind of DNS and IIS configuration is needed to allow multiple domains to point to a multi-tenant web application?

    I'm developping a multi-tenant web application in ASP.NET MVC and it will provide my users the ability to have a custom subdomain pointing to their account page (like user.myapp.com). I already have it working by using a wildcard DNS entry and a code to query the database to load the user data based on the domain. I'm planning to offer the possibility of using custom domains, allowing the users to buy their own domains and use it instead of the subdomains that will be provided by default. I currently use DNSMadeEasy to host the DNS for the application main domain. I just don't know what kind of settings I must make to allow this feature to work, since the users will have domains hosted in several companies. Will I have to create my own nameservers and provide it to my users? What other things I must consider to implement it efficiently?

  • Can you configure multiple KMS hosts in a primary / secondary relationship?

    We have two datacenters in our environment: primary and DR. I need to deploy a KMS service, and to be proactive, I would like to have a host in both datacenters. From what I have read, you can have up to 6 hosts without calling Microsoft, and it appears that what will happen is that a SRV record for each host will be placed in DNS. The client will query for those SRV records and randomly choose a host for the initial activation and will use that same server for all renewals. The server can be changed manually through a script and will automatically change if the initial server is unavailable when activating or renewing. My question is has anyone found a way to designate one server as the primary KMS host and designate the other as failover only? The reason I ask is that it is preferred that the client communicate with the primary datacenter during normal operations and only talk to the DR datacenter when needed because the bandwidth between the offices and the DR datacenter is limited compared to the primary. I am sure that this has been done before but I can not find it MSFT's documentation. Thanks, Mark

  • Multiple IPs on firewall, are these virtual interfaces or what?

    We have 5 static IP addresses from our ISP: XXX.XXX.XXX.180 XXX.XXX.XXX.181 XXX.XXX.XXX.182 XXX.XXX.XXX.183 XXX.XXX.XXX.184 On our firewall box, the NIC that is connected to our cable modem, appears to have all 5 IP addresses set on it. A previous IT guy set this thing up, and I'm not sure exactly what he did. Are these virtual interfaces on this NIC or what? In that environment they would access to their own account of PHPMyAdmin, SQL, Subversion and FTP which is not a big problem, but I would like to emulate like if each one would be in their own server. I mean so that they could change the PHP configuration (for example) and would be done only in its own environment. Any idea how to do this? Do I have to make something "special" at the installations of my server or something like that?

    I have 2 mice: Logitech MX Revolution and Razer DeathAdder. I use my mx revolution for browsing internet (I set up a lot of hotkeys on all my buttons to make browsing really convenient) and the deathadder for gaming (the mouse is a lot more accurate and smooth).   • Multiple IP addresses to one NIC, but advanced IP settings window only shows one?

    The ipconfig of my Windows Server 2003 server shows that the IP addresses 10.0.0.3, 10.0.0.11, and 10.0.0.12 are assigned to it. However, when I look in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window for that connection, I only see the IP address of 10.0.0.3 listed there. In the Support tab for the connection, it shows that it's connected through 10.0.0.12, and in the Support Details window, it shows all the previously mentioned IP addresses. Where are these phantom IP addresses being stored and how can I free them up so I don't have any IP conflicts?

  • How To Map Fn+Key (Multiple Keys) To Other Key in Windows?

    I've got a ThinkPad W530 laptop, which replaces the Application Key (also known as Menu Key or Mouse Right Click key, usually between Right Alt and Right Ctrl) with the Print Screen key. So, I need to replace Prt/Scr with Application key. That's easy, all key mapping software like SharpKeys or whatever can do that. There are even a few threads in SuperUser about dozen of those. But then, the different part to this question from the others (which is why it's not a duplicate, I think) is that I also don't want to completely lose the Prt/Scr key. I'm thinking about replacing it with either: Fn + Prt/Scr Fn + F2 These seemed to have no special meaning, so, I'm not overriding anything, just adding functionality to either of them (one of them, not both), to be the new Prt/Scr key. I couldn't find any key mapping software that can detect or let me select more than one key to map, even when the other key is something like Fn key (although they all can map Fn key itself, without combination). I know it may make sense why this restriction exists, but it'll be really useful if I can override it though. Do you know any program that can do that? Thanks a lot.

  • Debian/OVH: How to configure multiple Failover IP on the same Xen (Debian) Virtual Machine?

    I have a problem on a Xen virtual machine (running latest Debian), when I try to configure a second failover IP address. OVH reports that my IP is misconfigured and they complaint they receive a massive quantity of ARP packets from this IPs, so they are going to block my IP unless I fix this issue. I suspect there's a routing issue, but I don't know (and can't find any useful info on the provider's website, and their support doesn't provide me a valid solution, just bounce me to their online - useless - guides). I need both AAA.AAA.AAA.AAA and BBB.BBB.BBB.BBB to be publicly reachable from Internet and point to my domU, and to be able to access Internet from inside the virtual machine (domU). I am using eth0 and eth0:0 because due to OVH support, I have to assign both IPs to the same MAC address and then create a virtual eth0:0 interface for the second IP. Any suggestion?     In Apple's The Objective-C Programming Language: Defining a Class the section named "Redifining self" recommends that that class methods allocate and return instances use 'self' only to allocate an instance and then refer only to that instance. Thus, I have a number of subclasses, that have class methods along the lines of: + (id)scrollViewWithFrame: (NSRect)rectFrame { id newInstance = [[[self alloc] initWithFrame:rectFrame] autorelease]; [newInstance setHasHorizontalScroller: YES]; [newInstance setHasVerticalScroller: YES]; [newInstance setBorderType: NSNoBorder]; [newInstance setAutoresizingMask: (NSViewWidthSizable | NSViewHeightSizable)]; return newInstance; } The above is, of course, a subclass of NSScrollView. Unfortunately, Xcode 3.x all these NSView subclasses now raise warnings: "Warning: Multiple methods named '-setAutoresizingMask' found". I believe it has something to do with GCC 4.2, the settings of which I have not changed. The warning is correct, of course, since NSView and its various subclasses all implement setAutoresizingMask, but it is also unnecessary. Since they're only warnings, I ignore them but there is a risk that in between the thirty or so unnecessary ones, a really useful warning lurks which I simply don't see. So, what to do? I do want to adhere to good coding practices and I want to build warning-free apps -- how can I do both?

  • What are some techniques to monitor multiple instances of a piece of software?

    I have a piece of self-serve kiosk software that will be running at multiple sites. I'd like to monitor their status remotely. The kiosk application itself is pretty much finished. I am now in the process of creating a piece of software that will monitor all of the kiosks from a central location so that the customer can view particular details remotely (for instance, how many bills are in the acceptor's cash cartridge, what customer is currently logged in, etc.). Because I am in such an early stage of development, my options are quite open. I understand that I'm not giving very many qualifications, but I'd like to try to get a good variety of potential solutions. Some details: Kiosk software is a VB6 app running on Windows Embedded Monitoring software will be run on a modern desktop version of Windows (either XP, Vista, or 7) Database is SQL Server 2008 My initial idea was to develop a .NET app that would simply report the last database transaction for each kiosk at a set interval (say every second or so) but I'd really like for the kiosk software to report its status directly. I'm not exactly sure where to begin in terms of what modifications may need to be made to the kiosk software, and what the monitoring software will require. Links to articles on these topics would be most welcome.

  • MySQL multiple instances: can you specify a separate general_log/general_log_file option?

    Have two working MySQL instances as well as the default instance. I have general logging enabled on the default; this is working fine. On the second instance, I've added: general_log = 1 general_log_file = /path/to/log/file under [mysqld1]. Restarted the instance (using mysqladmin and confirmed it was not running with mysqld_multi report 1), started it back up again, and the only data in the log file are the connect statements from when mysqld_multi report 1 was executed. Are all the instance #1 queries just being logged to the default instance general log file? The default instance is quite busy and has identical database names, tables, etc. so it's difficult to figure out right now.

  • Setting up Virtual Hosts with Apache on Windows 2008 server for multiple sites. Complicated setup,

    Hey guys! I am setting up apache on my windows 2008 server at my home. It will serve 2 functions. Subversion hosting to allow me and some others to manage company documents with version control Local website hosting for web development. Will need to run several websites since I generally work on more then one site at a time. Heres what I have done so far. I set up subversion and apache 2.2 using some walk troughs. I changed the default port to 1337. (im a nerd) Using dyndns.com I created a domain to forward to my home ip which is dynamic. ( company.gotdns.org) I then went into my DNS for my company.com and added a record to point repo.company.com to company.gotdns.org At this point people who need access to my file repository can access by going to repo.company.com/repo which is good so far. My question comes on the next step, setting up virtual hosts with apache. Ideally I would like to have my local website be viewable by some others in the company from their homes. So, say I am working on site1, I would like to have them be able to view this by going site1.roeland.bythepixel.com. At the same time, I would like to have site10.wouter.bythepixel.com go to his local setup for site10. What I have done for this: I went into my DNS for company.com and added a record to point roeland.company.com to company.gotdns.org (which translates to my ip). I added code to my httpd-vhosts.conf (listed at bottom) I added code to my host file (listed at bottom) Hah, so of course this doenst work as excepted.. going to site1.roeland.bythepixel.com doesnt bring up my test1 site. Could anyone point me where I may be going wrong?   • How can I manage AWS VPC ssh access accounts and keys across multiple instances?

    I am setting up a standard AWS VPC structure: a public subnet some private subnets, hosts on each, ELB, etc. Operational network access will be via either an ssh bastion host or an openvpn instance. Once on the network (bastion or openvpn), admins use ssh to access the individual instances. From what I can tell all of the docs seem to depend on a single user with sudo rights and a single public ssh key. But is that really best practice? Isn't it much better to have each user access each host under their own name? So I can deploy accounts and ssh public keys to each server, but that rapidly gets unmanageable. How do people recommend managing user accounts? I've looked at: IAM: It doesn't like like IAM has a method for automatically distributing accounts and ssh keys to VPC instances. IAM via LDAP: IAM doesn't have an LDAP API LDAP: set up my own LDAP servers (redundant, of course). Bit of a pain to manage, still better than managing on every host, especially as we grow. Shared ssh key: rely on the VPN/bastion to track user activities. I don't love it, but... What do people recommend? NOTE: I moved this over from accidentally posting in StackOverflow.

  • Which server software and configuration to retrieve from multiple POP servers, routing by address to correct user

    I am setting up a small email server on a Debian machine, which needs to pick up mail from a variety of POP servers and figure out who to send it to from the address, but I'm not clear what software will do what I need, although it seems like a very simple question! For example, I have 2 users, Alice and Bob. Any email to [email protected] ([email protected] etc) should go to Alice, all other mail to domain.example.com should go to Bob. Any email to [email protected] should go to Bob, and [email protected] should go to Alice Anything to *@bobs.place.com should go to Bob And so on... The idea is to pull together a load of mail addresses that have built up over the years and present them all as a single mailbox for Bob and another one for Alice. I'm expecting something like Postfix + Dovecot + Amavis + Spamassassin + Squirrelmail to fit the bill, but I'm not sure where the above comes in, can Postfix deal with it as a set of defined regular expressions, or is it a job for Amavis, or something else entirely? Do I need fetchmail in this mix, or is its role now included in one of the other components above. I think of it as content-filtering, but everything I read about content-filtering is focussed on detecting spam rather than routing email.

    Hi there, I have an application in which I would like to support multiple orientations. I have two .xib files that I want to use, myViewController.xib and myViewControllerLandscape.xib. myViewController.xib exists in project/Resources and myViewControllerLandscape.xib exists in the root project directory. What I want to do is use a separate NIB (myViewControllerLandscape.xib) for my rotations. I try detecting rotation in viewDidLoad like this: if((self.interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) || (self.interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)) { NSLog(@"Landscape detected!"); [self initWithNibName:@"myViewControllerLandscape" bundle:nil]; } But I can see in gdb that this isn't executed when the app is started with the device in landscape. The NSLog message doesn't fire. Why is this? What have I done wrong? Also, if I explicitly put the initWithNibName function call in the viewDidLoad method, that nib is not loaded, and it continues with the myViewController.xib file. What's wrong with my call? Should I specify a bundle? Thanks!

    I'm on Debian Lenny and the latest backports django is 1.1.1 final. I don't want to use sid so I probably have to download django. I have my sites located at: /www/ and I plan on using mod_wsgi with Apache2 as a reverse proxy from nginx. Now that I downloaded pip and virtualenv through pip, can someone explain how I could get my /www/ sites which are yet to be made to all use django-1.2? Question 1.1: Where do you suggest I download django-1.2? I know you can store it anywhere but where would you store it? Question 1.2: After installing it how do you actually tie that django-1.2 instead of the system default django 1.2 to the reverse proxied Apache conf? I would prefer it if answers were more specific than vague and have examples of setups.

    I have turned on Wake On Lan on all of the BIOSes in the PCs and I have a simple batch file that runs a free command wolcmd.exe Wake on Lan Command Line The syntax is as follows: wolcmd [mac address] [ip address] [subnet mask] [port number] The batch file looks a little like this.... wolcmd 009027a324fe 195.188.159.20 255.255.255.0 8900 wolcmd 009024a731da 212.86.64.31 255.255.255.0 8900 It's OK but It's not very user friendly (I need to set this up for other people to use and administer) Can you suggest a Windows (XP/Vixta/7) Alternative with a GUI? Free is cool, but a good paid for version is fine if you think it's worth it! Thanks in advance for your informed suggestions
