• IoC container configuration

  How should the configuration for an IoC container be organized? I know that registering by code should be placed at the highest level in an application, but what if an application had hundreds of dependencies that need to be registered? Same with XML configurations. I know that you can split up the XML configurations into multiple files, but that would seem like it would become a maintenance hassle if someone had to dig through multiple XML files. Are there any best practices for organizing the registration of dependencies? From all the videos and tutorials that I've seen, the code used in the demo were simple enough to place in a single location. I have yet to come across a sample application that utilizes a large number of dependencies.

• Why is C# winforms application not working without VS.NET installed?

  Hi folks, I have a winforms c# app that has an embedded webbrowser control inside it generated through VS.NET 2008. We sink events by inheriting our events class from HTMLDocumentEvents2. public class IEHTMLDocumentEvents : mshtml.HTMLDocumentEvents2 { public bool onclick(mshtml.IHTMLEventObj pEvtObj) { // Clicking on an input (checkbox, radio, button, image) if (pEvtObj.srcElement.tagName == "INPUT") { // The following will result in a null pointer without VS.NET installed HTMLInputElementClass input = pEvtObj.srcElement as HTMLInputElementClass; } } } The code above works fine when clicking on elements in the webbrowser control on our dev machines with VS.NET installed. However it fails to cast the pEvtObj.srcElement when VS.NET is not installed. This immediately starts working when we install the most basic VS.NET with C# that you can. To note: The rest of the c# app works fine, and you can browser the web through the control fine as well, just that the events like the above 'onclick' can't be handled properly. • What is the simplest way to implement multithredding in c# to existing code

  I have already implemented a functionnal application that parses 26 pages of html all at once to produce an xml file with data contained on the web pages. I would need to implement a thread so that this method can work in the background without causing my app to seems unresponsive. Secondly, I have another function that is decoupled from the first one which compares two xml files to produce a third one and then transform this third xml file to produce an html page using XSLT. This would have to be on a thread, where I can click Cancel to stop the thread whithout crashing the app. What is the easiest best way to do this using WPF forms in VS 2010 ? Note: I cannot use the BackgroundWorker component as it is grayed out in the toolbox.

  I am attempting to create an enrollment process similar to SO's: route to an OpenID provider provider returns the user's information to the UsersController (a guess) UsersController creates user, then routes to the ProfilesController's new or edit action.   Hey Guys, I was wondering if you could share best practices and common mistakes when it comes to making large numbers of time-sensitive web service calls. In my case, I have a SOAP and an XML-RPC based web service to which I'm constantly making calls. I predict that this will soon become an issue as the number of calls per second will grow. On a higher level, I was thinking of batching those calls and submitting those to the web services every 100 ms. Could you share what else works? On a lower level side of the things, I use Apache Xml-Rpc client and standard javax.xml.soap.* packages for my client implementations. • Specifying culture for http request/reponse

  I have a ReSTful web service which needs to parse culture-sensitive data from the request. This data could either be in an XML body or part of the query string. Is there any acepted way of determining which culture the data is being sent in (and by extension the culture in which the response should be sent)? One option is simply to specify to the clients the culture in which all requests should be sent. A friendlier option seems to be to allow the client to specify the culture. I've considered: a) using the accept-language http header to encode this information. b) using the xml:lang attribute for XML POSTs, and an extra field for query strings (e.g. ...&culture=en-GB) http://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-accept-lang-locales warns of limitations in using the accept-language header, but most of the warnings seem to center around requests originating from browsers. In my case the requests will come from other applications. All advice greatly appreciated!

What am I doing wrong here? So how can be it in use?

The formatted xml that I get is as below: node1, node2, node 3 are attributes of pojo,DetailDollars 100 25 10 I have requirement where in I have to calucluate a percentage, for example 100/ 25 and add the new node to the existing ones. So, the final output should be : 100 25 10 4 I wrote a custom converter and registered to my xstream object. public void marshal(..){ writer.startNode("node4"); writer.setValue(getNode1()/ getnode2() ); writer.endNode(); } But, the xml stream I get has only the new node: 4 I am not sure which xstream api would get me the desired format. could you please help me with this . My XML string happens to be very long so I do not want to pass it as a @QueryParam or @PathParam. Say If I write that XML string into a file, How do I go about writing a RESTful service that takes in this file, extracts whatever I want and return the results. I am actually trying to extract some number of strings, so my output should probably be an ArrayList having all these strings. • Is there a way to export an XSD schema from a DataContract

  I'm using DataContractSerializer to serialize/deserialize my classes to/from XML. Everything works fine, but at some point I'd like to establish a standard schema for the format of these XML files independent of the actual code. That way if something breaks in the serialization process I can always go back and check what the standard schema should be. Or if I do need to modify the schema the modification is an explicit decision rather then just a later affect of modifying my code. In addition, other people may be writing other software that may not be .NET based that would need to read from these XML files. I'd like to be able to provide them with some kind of documentation of the schema. Is there some relationship between a DataContract and an XSD schema. Is there a way to export the DataContract attributes in classes as an XSD schema?

  I'm having an issue opening files that have recently been closed by the .Net framework. Basically, what happens is the following: -Read in an XML file using DataSet.ReadXml() -Make some changes to the data -Write out the XML file using DataSet.WriteXml() -Copy the XML file to a new location using File.Copy -FTP the file using a custom control This sequence can intermittently fail either after the WriteXML or the File.Copy with a file in use exception. I'm guessing it could be the Windows write cache not flushing right away. Can anyone confirm that this could be causing my issue? Any solutions to suggest? Thanks, Dan

• JSF2 and Richfaces 3.3.3 application on tomcat 6.0 crashes with a StackOverflowError

  Hi, I am using JSF 2 and richfaces 3.3.3 for an application hosted on tomcat 6.0.20. The application crashes as soon as a request is made via the browser (Mozilla and IE). If I remove all the configurations related to Richfaces, the application works like charm. Any advice is much appreciated.

  I define two XML type (base and derived types). <xs:complexType name="ParentType"> ... </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="ChildType"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="ParentType"> ... </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> Now, I have an XML instance of ChildType. The question, If I once unmarshall the XML into ParentType java object, can I downcast the java object to its subclass of ChildType? Is that possible to that? thanks

• Rails Action and Fragment Caching during Development?

  I'm just starting to get into Rails caching and am wondering how to test whether or not caching is working in my development environment. I have set these two config variables for both the development (temporarily) and production environments: config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_controller.page_cache_directory = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'public', 'cache') And my controller basically looks like this (using the resource_controller gem): class EventsController < Spree::BaseController resource_controller caches_page :index index.response do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @collection.to_xml } end # ... end If I do that, I get these files: public/cache/events.html public/cache/events.xml But when I change caches_page to caches_action, I don't see any generated files and am not sure how to tell if the response has been cached. What do I need to know to know that this is working? I've read the docs and related, the rails caching guides, the railscast, and a few other docs, but I'm still wondering where everything is stored. Is there a quicker way? Speed seems to be a bit slow on it as it pulls down the entire feed before parsing.

• Account preferences crashes on ListPreference

  I have created an account type using the AccountAuthenticator stuff as done in the SampleSyncAdapter tutorial. I am now trying to get account preferences working. I have added the line android:accountPreferences="@xml/account_preferences" to my account-authenticator and account_preferences.xml looks like so: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <PreferenceCategory android:title="@string/alum_settings_title"/> <CheckBoxPreference android:key="sync_alum" android:title="@string/sync_alum" android:summaryOn="@string/sync_alum_check" android:summaryOff="@string/sync_alum_nocheck"/> <ListPreference android:key="sync_alum_since" android:title="@string/alum_years" android:entries="@array/years" android:entryValues="@array/years" android:dependency="sync_alum"/> </PreferenceScreen> The checkbox preference works exactly like it should but the ListPreference crashes the entire system with the following message: 05-14 22:32:16.794: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(63): android.view.WindowManager$BadTokenException: Unable to add window -- token null is not for an application I get the same error with EditTextPreference and with the custom subclass of DialogPreference I created.

  Hi All, I am using XStream to serialize my Objects to XML format. The formatted xml that I get is as below: node1, node2, node 3 are attributes of pojo,DetailDollars DetailDollars node1 100 /node1 node2 25 /node2 node3 10 /node3 /DetailDollars I have requirement where in I have to calucluate a percentage, for example 100/ 25 and add the new node to the existing ones. So, the final output should be : DetailDollars node1 100 /node1 node2 25 /node2 node3 10 /node3 node4 4 /node4 DetailDollars I wrote a custom converter and registered to my xstream object. public void marshal(..){ writer.startNode("node4"); writer.setValue(getNode1()/ getnode2() ); writer.endNode(); } But, the xml stream I get has only the new node: DetailDollars node4 4 /node4 /DetailDollars I am not sure which xstream api would get me the desired format. could you please help me with this . • AJAX vs AHAH Is there a performance advantage?

  My concern is performance, is there a reason to to send the client XML instead of valid HTML? Like most things, I am sure it is application dependent. My specific situation is where there is substantial content being inserted into the web page that has been pulled from a database. What are the advantages of either approach? Is the size of the content even a concern? Or, in the case of using XML, will the time for the Javascript to process the XML into HTML counterbalance the extra time that would have been required to send HTML to start with? Thanks, Jeff

  Say you have a one to one relationship in your entity model. The code generator will decorate it with the following attributes: [global::System.Xml.Serialization.XmlIgnoreAttribute()] [global::System.Xml.Serialization.SoapIgnoreAttribute()] public RelatedObject Relationship { get {...} set {...} } I want to serialize my parent object together with all its properties for which data has been loaded through an XML web service. Obviously, these related properties do not get serialized because of these attributes. So for my purposes I just want to remove these "don't serialize me" attributes. I can do a find and replace in the designer code, but any modifications I make in the designer will put these attributes back in. How do I permanently get rid of these attributes? VS 2008 / EF 3.5.
