• Changing location in Google Chrome when searching

  I've recently moved to the Czech Republic from Scotland and I can't find a way to permanently stop Google from automatically defaulting back to google.cz all the time. I've checked to ensure that all my google accounts and cookie based settings (e.g. Advanced Search Options) are set to English but it's still clearly doing an IP address lookup and disregarding everything else. The default Search Engine for Google Chrome (and switches to google.cz automatically): {google:baseURL}search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s I've tried hardcoding it to: http://www.google.com/search?{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}sourceid=chrome&ie={inputEncoding}&q=%s this kind of works, but won't work for inline searching, i.e. I always have to press enter in order to get any results which is a bit annoying as I've gotten so used to AJAX style searching I can't have been the only one to get this issue? Any help is appreciated

  I'm learning by mostly reading the documentation. Unfortunately, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/set-transaction.html#isolevel_read-committed doesn't say anything, while it says everything. Confused? Me too. ndb engine supports only "READ_COMMITTED" transaction isolation level. A. It starts by saying "sets and reads its own fresh snapshot", which I translate to: The transaction is having a separated 'zone' which whatever it stores there - is what it reads back. B. While out-side of the transaction, the old-values are unlocked. C. It continues with: "for locking reads" sentence - No idea what it means. Question: they claim only READ_COMMITTED transaction isolation level is supported, but while handling a BLOB or a TEXT, they say the isolation is now "locked for reading" too. So is it a contradiction? can a transaction LOCK for reading just as well while handling something other than BLOB/TEXT? (such as integers)

  Background In Excel 2010, for some ridiculous reason, there is no built-in hotkey (or even a button on the toolbar) for subscripting/superscripting text within a text cell. You can, however, highlight the text, right-click the selection, click format, and then check the [x] subscript or [x] superscript checkbox. Question Are there any kinds of excel macros or workarounds to map two keyboard hotkeys to the subscript and superscript keys, respectively? (It should only be, like, two lines of code - one for the event handler and one for the actual procedure call... I would write one myself but my VBA is rusty, at best, and I am pretty confident there is probably already some kind of solution, despite my inability to find one via search engine) Thanks for any help you can provide!

  Since 2.3, OpenLDAP uses a configuration engine called slapd-config. They said that use it make all LDAP configuration can be changed on fly. This is the header of /etc/ldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif: # AUTO-GENERATED FILE - DO NOT EDIT!! Use ldapmodify. I've changed data in it and some other files which have that header, after restarting slapd, my changes took effects. Is there anything else happen if I change those files manually? If I don't need 'change on fly', should I edit those file manually instead of using ldapmodify? Which application generated those files, and when? NOTE: I'm using openldap-2.4.28 on Ubuntu 12.04

• Firefox - order of search engines reverts (toolbar)

  When I change the order of the search engines (Toolbar - Manage Search Engines - Move up / down - Ok) it changes the order, until I close and reopen the browser. I can't imagine that's the way it's supposed to work. I want it to stay in the order I select. I have no add-ons installed that have anything to do with search engines, nor that add any toolbars. I am not using a customized theme. Apparently this problem is rare, as Googling [ "manage search engine list" ("order reverts" OR "order changes") ] return 0 results. Firefox 3.6.12; Windows XP Pro SP3.

• Forward Request to Multiple Servers

  We have 2 servers. One is old server and another is the new one. Currently we about doing a migration because the old server is not capable enough to handle everyday requests. The specs are: Old server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx as Reverse Proxy Apache WSGI Python/Django New Server Ubuntu 10.04 Nginx Gunicorn Python/Django Celery+Redis Our manager asked us to research if the old server can perform multiple forwarding to all incoming request, for example, set Nginx of old server to forward all request to both old and new server. The purpose is to perform unit testing to new server using old server as comparer, see if the new server is ready to take over the role. Please help, if there is an idea, or must install some engine, or what we do is impossible. Many thanks.

• Why is there no 64-bit Linux Firefox build?

  It seems that I have to build my own 64-bit Firefox for Linux, as Mozilla won't support it until Firefox 4. Why is this? It looks to me as though it works fine, although without some of the speed improvements to the Javascript engine which the 32-bit version gets. (Edit: Yes I could run the 32-bit version but I'm trying to keep my system clear of 32-bit cruft and libraries etc, and all the plug-ins worked fine in 3.0.11 64-bit unofficial builds.) Update : No longer relevant as Mozilla provide 64-bit builds, but they don't show them on the download pages of mozilla.org, just on the ftp site as mentioned in one of the answers below.

I am afraid is a bug in the regexp engine but I am not sure.

  I am based in the UK, and as such typically use google.co.uk as my search engine. However, my employer is based in continental Europe, and thus my internet proxy is located overseas. As a result, IP geo-location presents a location outside of the UK. Google detects this, and as a result will redirect my searches from the address bar to a foreign Google domain. This leads to "local" answers having a higher ranking, many of which are not written in English language! Is there a specific search provider / URL I can give to IE which will use a specific gTLD of google (.co.uk), rather than performing the location-based redirect?

There are numerous load modules and I am wondering which modules I can safely disable for performance and / or security improvements.   Do anyone knows any kind of apps or services for "taking care of servers"? (besides managed servers) There are hundreds of ways your server or application can stop working properly. Small things are easy to miss but usually easy to fix. Log overgrouth, configuration issues, etc. Of course there are best practice checklists, but its not a human task to check configuration best practices. Im sure it can be automated: some kind of agent can monitor all system settings, say what is right and wrong and give suggestions on how to make it right. I have to admin several servers and I need some kind of overview of overall situation. As well as a tool, that will fix problems automatically. Can you people suggest something?   Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

  I'm working on a social website with an approximate read/write split of 90/10. Trying to decide on a MySQL engine. The ones I'm interested in are: XtraDB PBXT TokuDB What are the pros and cons of them for my use case? A few specific questions: PBXT uses log-based structure that avoids double-writes. It sounds very elegant, but the benchmark I've seen doesn't show any/much advantages over XtraDB. Do you have any experience with PBXT/XtraDB you can share? TokuDB sounds VERY interesting. But all the benchmarks I've seen are about single-threaded bulk inserts - inserting 100M rows for example. that's not very relevant for OLTP. What about its performance with large number of concurrent threads writing and reading at the same time? Anyone has tried that?

  We're running InnoDB as a MySQL engine and using phpMyadmin to administer our database. Under Status - Query statistics, phpMyadmin gives us the following: We would like to know where these figures come from because we would like to create a Munin graph showing the evolution of these statistics over time. When we run the SHOW STATUS; query here is what we get: Innodb_rows_deleted 247555 Innodb_rows_inserted 822911 Innodb_rows_read 694934413 Innodb_rows_updated 15048 As you can see there is a substantial difference although both were taking almost at the same time. Q: Do you know where phpMyadmin gets its values from?

• Solr on Tomcat (Ubuntu OS) installation help

  I have to install Solr on my Ubuntu Server. However, Solr wont work without Tomcat or another container, and also Java. I have successfully installed tomcat6 and java. BUT, in a tomcat6 guide online, it says I should configure iptables to allow connections via port 8080, which I have done. Then the guide says I can test the tomcat6 by going to: http://my_ip_adress:8080 But this makes the browser just load and wait somehow for a response, and finally display "website not available". I have NO clue how to install Solr with Tomcat. Does anybody know how? How do I know Tomcat6 works? BTW: When I do this: /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start then it says OK. • How can I set clean urls (enable rewrite) if I don't have a domain ?

  In order to enable clean urls in Drupal, I add the lines below to the lighttpd configuration file. However I'm now working on a local server and I don't have a domain available. So I need to work with this address http://local.ip/Sites/mywebsite I've tried to replace ["host"] with ["socket"] and replace the domain with ip and subfolders (see address above), but unsuccessfully. • Firefox Address Bar Search Returns Web Server Running?

  When I type "trends" in Firefox 25.0 address bar, it returns what looks like a web server running on my PC, although I am not running a web server. I don't have the score to post the screen shot, but specifically it says: It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet. Why would this display, instead of the normal behavior of the search engine? I'm using Windows 7 with the Anaconda Python distribution installed, but there is no Python interpreter fired up.

  In .NET 2.0, Microsoft introduced the Web Site. This was the default way to create a web Project in Visual Studio 2005. In Visual Studio 2008, the Web Application has been restored as the default web Project in Visual Studio/.NET 3.x The Web Site is a file/folder based Project structure. It is designed such that pages are not compiled until they are requested ("on demand"). The advantages to the Web Site are: 1) It is designed to accommodate non-.NET Applications 2) Deployment is as simple as copying files to the target server 3) Any portion of the Web Site can be updated without requiring recompilation of the entire Site. The Web Application is a .dll-based Project structure. ASP.NET pages and supporting files are compiled into assemblies that are then deployed to the target server. Nuestro primer parametro FormatType es un valor de tipo ExportFormatType, que puede corresponder a cualquiera de los metodos que enumeramos a continuación: CrystalReport: El formato al cual se exporta es de Tipo CrystalReport. Excel: El formato al cual se exporta es de tipo Excel ExcelRecord: El formato al cual se exporta es de Tipo Excel Record. NoFormat: No se ha especificado un formato de exportación. PortableDocFormat: El formato al cual se exporta es de Tipo PDF.  No voy a enumerar todos, pues me imagino que ya sabrán la idea de cada uno de los formatos, los numerados arriba son los mas importantes. Nuestro segundo parametro el objeto response nos permite adozar el archivo. Y por último, nuestro tercer parametro, definirá si debe ir como un objeto adjunto o no. • Integrating Silverlight BING Maps with SharePoint 2010

WHAT? YOU HAVEN’T!? DAMMIT! You should! Seriously, the bing silverlight maps are way way way cooler than their google counterpart. They are simply mindblowing. Now, what if I told you, you could integrate those, and the power of the bing geocoding api, AND, the bing search engine, AND routing capabilities, all on a silverlight map, and throw in the Yahoo geocoding api over a REST interface, all running inside SharePoint? No seriously! I am not joking! In this video, I demonstrate exactly the above, all integrated and running happily inside of SharePoint 2010. Note that you can also make this work in SharePoint 2007. I used the Telerik Silverlight Controls to make all this happen. And as always, only about 2% of the video is slides, all of the rest is all hands-on code.
