  • Eclipse on mac: how comes that everytime I install an Eclipse plug-in on my mac I always get this er

    I'm using Eclipse for several projects on Leopard OSX. I've installed several versions (Classic, PDT, etc).   • Linux: find thin server running on port 80 and kill it

    On my Linux server I ran: sudo thin start -p 80 -d Now I'd like to restart the sever. The trouble is, I can't seem to get the old process to kill it. I tried: netstat -anp But what I see on port 80 is this: Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN - So, it didn't give me a PID to kill... I tried pgrep -l thin but that gave me nothing. Meanwhile pgrep -l ruby gives me like 6 processes running. I don't really understand why multiple ruby threads would be running, or which one I need to kill... How do I kill / restart the thin daemon?

  • Differing packages between Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10

    So I've been playing around with VirtualBox and both of the above Ubuntu versions and I've noticed that there are some differences between the available packages when doing a apt-cache search <package>. Some of these I'm sure are obvious, as they potentially only work on their respective systems. But I've noticed specifically several ruby packages differ. So my question is whether or not there's a way to get some of the ruby packages (ruby1.9.1-full for example) which only seem to be available on 9.10 (yup, I did a sudo apt-get update on both 9.10 and 9.04) on my 9.04 system? Is there a way I can just do a kernel upgrade on 9.04, or whatever else may be needed in order to get at these more recent packages?

  • How to adjust Aspect Ratio in Windows Media Center

    Is there any way of adjusting the aspect ratio of movies I view in Windows Media Center on Windows 7 RTM x64? Any hidden features? Any brilliant light weight plugins? Using Shark007 Codecs, and otherwise just default Media Center and Media Player. I know I could reprocess the videos, but that would probably ruin the already bad quality. I also know I could use VLC media player, but I really would like to find a solution that works in Media Center, since VLC media player isn't especially Remote Control and media collection friendly... Update: By the way, I know I can Ctrl+Drag an edge of the media center in window mode and change the aspect ratio of the player, but that doesn't do anything to the video.

  • Ubuntu on Pandaboard giving me troubles

    I'm trying to install the OMAP4 extras for ubuntu on my pandaboard. For some reason, a few packages can't seem to be agree with eachother. This what I did so far: installed on Ubuntu 11.10 on sd card Powered on Pandaboard and let it finish it's initial install Did an "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade", to install updates So far, everything went fine, and I was quite happy with my Pandaboard, but then I made the mistake of typing this: apt-get install ubuntu-imap4-extras At first, everything seemed ok, and it started downloading and installing.   • How to Install PCRE Development Headers on Mac OSX

    I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and my local Ruby on Rails development environment isn't running straight off the bat, when I visit localhost I see It works! and remembered I needed to start Phusion Passenger, so when I run passenger start it checks all the requisites and fails when it gets to the PCRE Development Headers: * Checking for PCRE development headers... Found: no It tells me to go to http://www.pcre.org/ to download them so I downloaded 8.33 from here which went to my Downloads folder, so I unzipped it, cd'd to the folder and ran: ./configure make make install Then cd'd back to my rails app directory on my Desktop and re-ran passenger start but it's still the same. Tried a new Terminal window but that didn't make any difference. I must have done this before to get my dev environment working but can't seem to solve it this time. I also tried brew install pcre but it says Warning: pcre-8.33 already installed.

  • Passenger not working with SSL on Apache 2

    I have a Rails app running on Passenger; It works as expected over unencrypted connections. I also have a working Apache SSL setup; I can access any static file available via http with https. When I try to access the Rails app via https, I get a 403 error (Directory index forbidden by rule). Turning on indexes for the directory simply causes Apache to display an index. I do have +ExecCGI set for the appropriate directory in the SSL version of the VirtualHost directive. I'm sure there's something obvious I'm overlooking. I'm just not sure where I need to be looking.

  • Error running phusion passenger in standalone mode

    I'm trying to run standalone phusion passenger so that I can run different ruby rvm configurations on the same host. I already have ruby and passenger running fine on this host. I am following the instructions here. When I run standalone passenger the first time, it appears to successfully install nginx.   • How to stop basic Postfix after-queue script from BCC-ing sender?

    I'm building a content filter for Postfix (2.9.3 package installed via apt on an Ubuntu 12.04 test VM) and I'm starting with a very basic Ruby (1.9.3) template and building up functionality. Strangely, when the script is enabled, messages sent are being forwarded on as normal, but also sent back to the sender which is not normal. Disabling the script disables this behavior. Any suggestions about what I have to change to stop that from happening?     Hi. I really need help debugging an error I'm getting with Passenger on Apache. I've just made a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.4 and have Apache, Ruby and Passenger installed.     How to play .swf file in Google Chrome? Because when I open .swf files it says Missing Plug-in. though when I open chrome://plugins it shows that it has Shockwave Flash plugin installed already.     I have tried/researched 8 or so different plugins for Winamp that allow this functionality, and none of them seem to work on Windows 7 x64! I need a plugin for Winamp that will send the current playing track information to a PHP script, via GET or POST. I have almost no requirements... it can be the name/artist, or the filename (preferred). No fancy functionality needed, just something basic!     I have a signup page on a subdomain like: https://signup.mysite.com It should only be accessible via HTTPS but I'm worried people might somehow stumble upon it via HTTP and get a 404. My html/server block in nginx looks like this: html { server { listen 443; server_name signup.mysite.com; ssl on; ssl_certificate /path/to/my/cert; ssl_certificate_key /path/to/my/key; ssl_session_timeout 30m; location / { root /path/to/my/rails/app/public; index index.html; passenger_enabled on; } } } What can I add so that people who go to http://signup.mysite.com get redirected to https://signup.mysite.com ?   • What's the typical latency for key strokes using an ssh connection on a local wifi network?

    I develop software on a Macbook Air 1.6 Ghz but find running Rails test suites and generators on this computer very slow. I'm thinking about buying a Linux tower to put on my local wireless network to do my Rails development on. I would want to use my Macbook Air and ssh into the Linux box and do my development with Gnu Screen, vim, etc. Can I expect the keystroke and echo latency for a ssh session between two machines on a local wireless network to be negligible? Does anyone develop using this kind of local setup?

  • PDF files are opening in Firefox, undesiredly

    PDF files have suddenly started to open within the browser windows of Firefox 17. The PDF files are being displayed with the Adobe Acrobat plugin, which is odd, since I have explicitly disabled the Adobe Acrobat plugin in Firefox. I would like for Firefox to show the download prompt when opening a PDF file, instead. I have disabled the Adobe Acrobat plugin and I have made sure that PDF files are set to "Always Ask" in the Options dialog. For good measure, I've also tried disabling all plugins and extensions, and associating all file types to "Always Ask", but to no avail. So why is Firefox 17 suddenly ignoring these settings?

  • Apache Bench length failures

    I am running Apache Bench against a Ruby on Rails XML-RPC web service that is running on Passenger via mod_passenger. All is fine when I run 1000 requests without concurrency. Bench indicates that all requests successfully complete with no failures. When I run Bench again with a concurrency level of 2, however, requests start to fail due to content length. I am seeing failures rates of 70-80% when using concurrency. This should not happen. The requests I am sending to the web service should always results in the same response. I have used cURL to verify that this is in fact the case. My Rails log is not showing any errors as well so I am curious to see what content Bench actually received and interpreted as a failure. Is there any way to print these failures?

  • UFW blocking webrick on port 3000

    On a ubuntu 10.0.4 server runs redmine. starting webrick with: ./server webrick -e production -b lvps46-173-79-113.dedicated.hosteurope.de -d makes redmine available in browser. as soon as we enable ufw, webrick can´t be accessed anymore. of course we allowed Port 3000 from anywhere ufw allow 3000/tcp ufw allow 3000/udp also a grep for iptables doesn´t show a deny rule iptables -nL | grep 3000 find the whole iptables output here http://pastebin.com/k6WNqdPU checking lsof -ni tcp:2222 tells me ruby is listening on port 3000 ruby 3457 root 5u IPv4 864846667 0t0 TCP 46.173.79.113:3000 (LISTEN) What else can we check? what´s wrong with the ufw rules for port 3000?
