  • ASP.NET MVC User authentication - why it should be so sophisticated?

    Hello guys, I'm trying to use ASP.NET MVC to my new project and have been expected that the user authentication should be rather simple there. My goal is to have a separate user database table in my main database. I thought that the SqlTableProfileProvider should be the solution. So I added the corresponding table into my database and changed the web.config file. But it seems no matter what I change there, my web application still using the default authentication (via ASPNETDB.mdf file). What could be the problem? (my web.config file beginning is:)

  • Is it dangerous to store user-enterable text into a hidden form via javascript?

    In my asp.net MVC application I am using in place editors to allow users to edit fields without having a standard form view. Unfortunately, since I am using Linq to Sql combined with my data mapping layer I cannot just update one field at a time and instead need to send all fields over at once. So the solution I came up with was to store all my model fields into hidden fields, and provide span tags that contain the visible data (these span tags become editable due to my jquery plugin). When a user triggers a save of their edits of a field, jquery then takes their value and places it in the hidden form, and sends the whole form to the server to commit via ajax. When the data goes into the hidden field originally (page load) and into the span tags the data is properly encoded, but upon the user changing the data in the contenteditable span field, I just run $("#hiddenfield").val($("#spanfield").html(); Am I opening any holes this method? Obviously the server also properly encodes stuff prior to database entry.

    Hello, I come from PHP side, but I'm in need to develop a site using ASP .NET So far I manage to create a master page. Now I'm dealing with menus and submenus What I'm trying to do is, if the user picks "About Us" from the main menu, under the about us page I want to display a submenu with the options "who we are, what we do, contact us" If the user picks "Our Products" from the main menu, then under the products page I want to display a submenu with the options "product 1, product 2, product 3" Is this possible with only one master page? I read something about menu control but not sure that is what I need. So far I found how to display a sitemap, but not specific sections of a sitemap, if this is the way to do things. Any links, sample code, point of reference will be appreciated. Thanks

    Hello guys, I am new to XMPP. I am using Openfire server, and created a console client using Smack library. My usecase: All users anonymous, logged in (In future, website visitors) will be able to see other anonymous, logged-in users. And they can initiate a private chat (one-to-one) with any of them. So, I am able to logged in as Anonymous user, but I am not able to see other Anon / Logged in users (using Roster), because they are not in anon user's roster. So, What should be configuration OR custom=component/code to to achieve this usecase? Do I need to create server component? Any hint? OR It can be done using proper configuration? Cheers

  • Linux: Ways to communicate with kernel module from user space.

    Hello, What are the ways to communicate with a kernel module from user space? By communication i mean sending information and commands between the module and a user space process. I currently know of two way: open/close/read/write/ioctl on published device node. read/write on exported and hooked /proc file. More specifically, can someone advice the best way to communicate with a kernel module that does not actually drives any hardware and therefore should not be littering /dev with stub nodes that exists solely for ioctl calls? I mostly need to check its various status variables and send it a block of data with a request type tag and see if the request succeeded. Inso.

  • How do I change the effective user of psql?

    I'm using psql to run a simple set of COPY statements contained in a file: psql -d mydb -f 'wbf_queries.data.sql' where wbf_queries.data.sql contains lines: copy <my_query> to '/home/gvkv/mydata' delimiter ',' null ''; ... but I get a permission denied error: ... ERROR: could not open file ... for writing: Permission denied I'm connecting under my user account (gvkv) which is also a superuser in PostgreSQL. Obviously, psql is running under a different (effective) user but I don't know how to change this. Can it be done within psql or do I need some unix-fu?

  • Is it possible to register a user and submit a comment with one form with Wordpress?

    Is it possible to do both registering for an account and submit a comment at the same time? I want the user to be able to do this all on one page to ecourage the registration rather than be discouraged about typing something, not realizing they had to be registered and thus having to leave the page. I think that this could be done by adding register user action to the submit comment action, but not sure how to do it with the prebuilt wordpress add_action or do_action functions. Has anyone tried this, or know of any plug-ins that do this already? I searched but couldn't find anything helpful. Thanks.

  • PHP Serialization Will not work correctly.

    Hi, I am developing and doing all the testing on a local machine using PHP Version 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.1 version. The host machine is PHP Version 5.2.15. All the seriliaze arguments are identical. The problems is when i try to login the user on my test local machine i do the following : $user->getByUserId($results['id'],$db); $_SESSION['user'] = serialize($user); which retrieved me and serialize the user. and i just load it back when ever i detect that a session exists $user->LoadFromObject(unserialize($_SESSION['user'])); This works perfectly on my test machine. Just transfered the files on the host to see if i can get a beta version out but i keep on getting Warning: unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/gamerent/public_html/beta/includes/header.php on line 19 i have noticed that if i echo the $_SESSION['user'] in both system the test will indeed display me the serializated one but the main one will just show me the object and will not serialize the $user

    Hello, everybody. I'm here to ask if any of you know how to develop an app for Mac OS X that keeps reading everything the user types in. An example of app that implements this behavior is Text Expander. Text Expander reads everything the user types in, searching for abbreviations previously added on it. When one of this abbreviations is found, Text Expander replace the abbreviation form for the entire content related to that abbreviation. So, I would like to know what resource of Objective-C or Cocoa let you do this kind of stuff. P.S.: Just to mention, I'm not thinking about developing something like a key logger. I'm just curious and thinking about at developing a snippet platform.

  • How can I intercept Drupal User Registration after it has passed all validations?

    Hi, I am using Drupal 6.16 In the user registration module, I want to hook in AFTER all validations have been made and the row is about to be inserted. Here, I want to run my business logic. If my business logic fails, the drupal registration should be stopped. I can do this by setting an error in the form. If it succeeds, drupal registration SHOULD proceed and complete. I decided to use the validate operation in hook_user. But it is possible for drupal registration to be stopped at the validation phase itself, by some other module that is run after mine. What I want is, when my business logic succeeds, the drupal registration MUST succeed. Which hook and operation should I use so that I can intercept just before the drupal user info insert/update and after all validations have succeeded?

  • ASP.NET MVC: How can I explain an invalid type violation to an end-user with Html.ValidationSummary?

    Serious n00b warning here; please take mercy! So I finished the Nerd Dinner MVC Tutorial and I'm now in the process of converting a VB.NET application to ASP.NET MVC using the Nerd Dinner program as a sort of rough template. I am using the "IsValid / GetRuleViolations()" pattern to identify invalid user input or values that violate business rules. I am using LINQ to SQL and am taking advantage of the "OnValidate()" hook that allows me to run the validation and throw an application exception upon trying to save changes to the database via the CustomerRepository class. Anyway, everything works well, except that by the time the form values reach my validation method invalid types have already been converted to a default or existing value. (I have a "StreetNumber" property that is an integer, though I imagine this would be a problem for DateTime or any other non-strings as well.) Now, I am guessing that the UpdateModel() method throws an exception and then alters the value because the Html.ValidationMessage is displayed next to the StreetNumber field but my validation method never sees the original input. There are two problems with this: While the Html.ValidationMessage does signal that something is wrong, there is no corresponding entry in the Html.ValidationSummary. If I could even get the exception message to show up there indicating an invalid cast or something that would be better than nothing. My validation method which resides in my Customer partial class never sees the original user input so I do not know if the problem is a missing entry or an invalid type. I can't figure out how I can keep my validation logic nice and neat in one place and still get access to the form values. I could of course write some logic in the View that processes the user input, however that seems like the exact opposite of what I should be doing with MVC. Do I need a new validation pattern or is there some way to pass the original form values to my model class for processing?     I need to copy the item that user just added (for example. myresume.doc or financial.xls) with the metadata (doc lib obtains the columns from content type, ct obtains the columns from site colum) and copy the item with metadata in a folder called "NativeFile". Every doc library has this folder. I know itemadded can be used but then I heard itemadded fires before user have a chance to complete the metadata for the item they just added. What are my options? Given the above set of tables relating Users to Groups to Privileges, and then a set of Activities that can each require a Privilege to perform, how do you find out this: Show me all the Activities that can be performed by User X. That is: User X is a member of groups G and F; groups G and F correlate to privileges P, Q, R and S; show me all the activities that require privileges either P, Q, R or S. How do you do this?

  • Can I prevent a user from using windows taskmanager to end a process?

    I have a c# 4.0 application that I hear grumblings and rumors about problems with. Now, this application has a global unhandled exception handler that reports back to me with errors. I also know that it works because SOME people fill it in, and submit it. It seems though; that a large number of people do NOT fill it in, but instead, use the Windows Taskmanager to end the process. Is it possible to prevent a user from using the Windows Taskmanager to end a specific process? My goal would be that if the application crashes, the form that the user is presented with prevents the process from being ended. I'll also accept steps that would prevent the Windows Taskmanager from being launched.

  • How to (legitimately) access files after putting self into chrooted sandbox?

    Changing a Linux C++ program which gives the user limited file access. Thus the program chroots itself to a sandbox with the files the user can get at. All worked well. Now, however, the program needs to access some files for its own needs (not the user's) but they are outside the sandbox. I know chroot allows access to files opened before the chroot but in this case the needed files could a few among many hundreds so it is obviously impractical to open them all just for the couple that might be required. Is there any way to get at the files?

  • WPF - Two way binding use a user control...binding to object, not an element!

    I created an object with a simple property with a default value. I then created a user control that has a text box in it. I set the datacontext of the user control to the object. The text box correctly shows the properties default value but I can't seem to update the property value when the user changes the text box value. I created a simple project to illustrate my code.     I'm wondering what I would do to go about letting a guest use my web application without registering, then if they attempt to save their work they are prompted with a registration. This will be in a rails application by the way. Can I just allow public access to part of the work flow, then when they save check if they're a registered user (by session value, or cookie?). If they aren't a registered user, save all their work into the session and let them fill out a sign out form. On successful registration automatically log them in and initiate the create on the db?

    I'd like to make a very simple thing, replicate the functionality of mysql's interactive mysql_secure_installation script. My question is that is there a simple, built-in way in MySQL to combine the output of a SELECT query with the input of a DROP user or DROP database script? For example, if I'd like to drop all users with empty passwords. How could I do that with DROP USER statement? I know an obvious solution would be to run everything for example from a Python script, run a query with mysql -Bse "select..." parse the output with some program construct the drop query run it. Is there an easy way to do it in a simple SQL query? I've seen some example here, but I wouldn't call it simple: http://stackoverflow.com/a/12097567/518169 Would you recommend making a combined query, or just to parse the output using for example Python or bash scripts/sed?

  • Correct model for a database with a table for each user.

    Kinda stuck here... I have an application with lets say 5000 rows of data per user and was wondering if it was right or wrong to do it this way: On user account creation a new table is created (UserData_[UserID]) or should I just have 1 table for userdata and have everything in there with a column for userid? The reason I am stuck at the moment is that it seems NHibernate isn't able to be mapped to dynamic table names without creating another ISessionFactory which has alot of overhead AFAIK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
