  • DevExpress Refactor Pro vs JetBrains ReSharper

    In my department, we are currently using ReSharper 4.0 and deciding whether to upgrade to 4.5 upon its release next week. I personally am a huge fan of ReSharper however a number of my colleagues have pointed out that they have been using a plug in from DevExpress called Refactor Pro that performs similar functionality. http://www.devexpress.com/Refactor http://www.jetbrains.com/resharper/beta.html Has anyone previously compared these tools and hold any strong views on which tool would give us the greatest increase in productivity and why?

  • How to put a div above flash file ?

    Hi , I used jquery tools tooltip and i positioned icons 30 px under flash banner . The problem is when i hover icons , tooltips hide under flash banner , I gave high z-index to the tooltip div or other parent div in order position that above flash banner, but no difference . Is there any way to overcome this problem ? At the bottom picture , The green section is flash file and as you can see part of tooltip is hidden

    I am attempting to set up NCover for usage in my FinalBuilder project, for a .NET 4.0 C# project, but my final coverage output file contains no coverage data. I am using: NCover 3.3.2 NUnit 2.5.4 FinalBuilder 6.3.0.2004 All tools are the latest official as of today. I've finally managed to coax FB into running my unit tests under NCover for the .NET 4.0 project, so I get Tests run: 184, ..., which is correct.     #!/usr/bin/perl This is the shebang line to a lot of scripts I'm writing lately. Hard coding the path of the binary seems like it could create some problems. For instance, if one of my users has Perl installed at /something_else/bin then they'd have to change all the shebangs. I've seen some tools that will automatically replace the shebangs, but I'm wondering if there is something simpler.

  • Best practices for sending automated daily emails from web service

    I am running a web service that currently sends confirmation emails out to new users via the gmail smtp servers. As I'm only getting a few new users each day, this hasn't been a problem. I've recently added new features to the webapp that will require a customized message to be sent out to each user every day. Think of this as similar to the regular messages LinkedIn sends out that give you a status report on the activity in your network. Every user's message will be different. With thousands of users, this means thousands of unique messages will be sent each day. Edit: I've since found that these types of email are called "transactional or relationship messages". Spamtacular has a good article on differentiating between marketing and transactional email. I don't think using gmail's smtp servers will cut it anymore, but I don't know that for sure. I don't know what gmail's maximum outgoing messages per account is (it might be 100/day), but they limit outgoing mail to 500 recipients per message. I'm not sending a single message to 500 recipients, but I'm going to be sending 1000's of customized messages with each recipient getting one per day. I'm interested to learn any best practices for doing this (especially for Java-based webapps). Here are some of my thoughts and concerns on it: Should I set up my own outgoing mail server? If I do this, it seems like I'll have all sorts of other issues to worry about, such as preventing mail server abuse, monitoring bounces, allowing ways to opt-out of emails, etc. Are there any tools or services to help with this? Maybe something like OpenEMM or a services like MailChimp? But those seem focused more toward email marketing campaigns. I don't think I should have the webapp itself handle sending emails as it currently is for new user signups. I'm thinking I should setup a separate messaging server that can access the same backend/datastore as the webapp. Thoughts on this? Should I consider setting up some sort of message queueing service to help with this, such as JMS, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc.? Do I need to provide users a way to opt-out? Do I need to flag these as bulk messages? I don't really consider these email marketing messages, but I'm unsure what is considered appropriate or proper netiquette. Any advice is appreciated. I'm also very interested in open source tools or web services that simplify things and could help me to ramp up as quickly as possible. Thanks!

    When I'm debugging or even coding, it would be really uesful to examine third party assemblies but I can only see their metadata. Given that tools like reflector can decompile assemblies, is there someway or some tool which would allow visual studio to do the same thing? If I happen to have access to the PDB files for an assemblies, would placing them into my applications bin folder allow me to examine the assemblies content through visual studio?

Now my problem with it. When using Postgres as the database, it does not setup foreign keys. I would like the benefits of foreign keys in my schema such as referential integrity. So how do I apply foreign keys with Migrations?

    I want to process all incoming requests through a single script (index.php in web-root). So, the following is what currently happens: http://localhost/foo/bar/baz Is routed by Apache (through .htaccess) to: http://localhost/index.php?url=foo/bar/baz This works well, however, in Firefox I am able to do this: http://localhost/foo\ - notice the backslash. And Apache, instead of doing: /index.php?url=foo\ Emits a generic error page saying: Object not found! The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.     Clojures clojure.xml/parse, clojure.zip/xml-zip and clojure.contrib.zip-filter.xml/xml- are excellent tools for pulling values out of xml, but what if I want to change the xml (the result of clojure.zip/xml-zip) based on what I learn from xml- "queries" and write the result back out as xml? I would have expected that (clojure.contrib.prxml/prxml (clojure.xml/parse xml-content)) spit back xml, but that is not the case.

    Hi all. I've written in PHP a script that takes a long time to execute [Image processing for thousands of pictures]. It's a meter of hours - maybe 5. After 15 minutes of processing, I get the error: ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: The URL which I clicked Read Timeout The system returned: [No Error] A Timeout occurred while waiting to read data from the network. The network or server may be down or congested. Please retry your request. Your cache administrator is webmaster. What I need is to enable that script to run for much longer. Now, here are all the technical info: I'm writing in PHP and using the Zend Framework. I'm using Firefox. The long script that is processed is done after clicking a link. Obviously, since the script is not over I see the web page on which the link was and the web browser writes "waiting for ...". After 15 minutes the error occurs. I tried to make changes to Firefox threw about:config but without any success. I don't know, but the changes might be needed somewhere else. So, any ideas? Thanks ahead.
