Still prompted for a password after adding SSH public key to a server

I'm attempting to setup a git repository on my Dreamhost web server by following the "Setup: For the Impatient" instructions here. I'm having difficulty setting up public key access to the server. After successfully creating my public key, I ran the following command: cat ~/.ssh/[MY KEY].pub | ssh [USER]@[MACHINE] "mkdir ~/.ssh; cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" ...replacing the appropriate placeholders with the correct values. Everything seemed to go through fine. The server asked for my password, and, as far as I can tell, executed the command. There is indeed a ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the server. The problem: When I try to SSH into the server, it still asks for my password. My understanding is that it shouldn't be asking for my password anymore. What am I missing? JCP.next.3: time to get to work

As I've previously reported in this blog, we planned three JSRs to improve the JCP’s processes and to meet our members’ expectations for change. The first - JCP.next.1, or more formally JSR 348: Towards a new version of the Java Community Process - was completed in October 2011. This focused on a small number of simple but important changes to make our process more transparent and to enable broader participation. We're already seeing the benefits of these changes as new and existing JSRs adopt the new requirements. However, because we wanted to complete this JSR quickly we deliberately postponed a number of more complex items, including everything that would require modifying the JSPA (the legal agreement that members sign when they join the organization) to a follow-on JSR. The second JSR (JSR 355: JCP Executive Committee Merge) is in progress now and will complete later this year. This JSR is even simpler than the first, and is focused solely on merging the two Executive Committees into one for greater efficiency and to encourage synergies between the Java ME and Java SE platforms. Continuing the momentum to move Java and the JCP forward we have just filed the third JSR (JCP.next.3) as JSR 358: A major revision of the Java Community Process. This JSR will modify the JSPA as well as the Process Document, and will tackle a large number of complex issues, many of them postponed from JSR 348. For these reasons we expect to spend a considerable amount of time working on it - at least a year, and probably more. The current version of the JSPA was created back in 2002, although some minor changes were introduced in 2005. Since then the organization and the environment in which we operate have changed significantly, and it is now time to revise our processes to ensure that they meet our current needs. We have a long list of topics to be considered, including the role of independent implementations (those not derived from the Reference Implementation), licensing and open source, ensuring that our new transparency requirements are implemented correctly, compatibility policy and TCKs, the role of individual members, patent policy, and IP flow. The Expert Group for JSR 358, as with all process-change JSRs, consists of all members of the Executive Committees. Even though the JSR has just been filed we started discussions on the various topics several months ago (see the EC's meeting minutes for details) and our EC members - including the new members who joined within the last year or two - are actively engaged. Now it's your opportunity to get involved. As required by version 2.8 of our Process (introduced with JSR 348) we will conduct all our business in the open. We have a public java.net project where you can follow and participate in our work. All of our deliberations will be copied to a public Observer mailing list, we'll track our issues on a public Issue Tracker, and all our documents (meeting agendas and minutes, task lists, working drafts) will be published in our Document Archive. How to split a string with negative numbers using ActionScript 3.0

I'm having trouble loading my level. I'm using Ogmo to create my level then I import it. I have no problem converting 0's and 1's into an Array, but I can't figure out how to do the same for -1's. It separates the "-" and the "1". Any help would be great. Will not supporting IE or older browsers drive away potential visitors/users of my site? [closed]

Normally a SO browser but this question doesn't fit there, hopefully it fits here. I just want to ask from web designers' point of view if it's wrong to not care about supporting Internet Explorer or older browsers. The site I'm designing looks great in all browsers except IE9-. There are certain things that IE doesn't support or behave like other browsers; webkit stuff, some CSS styles, drop-and-drop files from OS etc etc, but it all works great in Safari, FireFox, Chrome etc. Should I be that concerned? I know there are several people that use IE, but it's limitations have just been causing me more work by having to come up with workarounds. From what I've read, many of the issues I've been having should be solved with IE10, but not everybody keeps up to date. I know of several people who are still using IE6! Again, I'm hoping this is the right place to ask a question like this, and if not, please point me to the right stack exchange site instead of just downvoting me. Thanks! EDIT: Upon further research.... So far this year, IE(all versions) and Chrome have been neck and neck as the top, with IE only squeaking by Chrome, and FireFox a close 3rd. But looking at the top 10 browsers, IE6 doesn't even show up on this list in which the lowest percentage is 1.92%. However, my site will not be going to a live beta until October or November, and I'm hoping that IE10 will have more features coded into it. Currently, I've written my upload page which is a "drag-and-drop files from the OS" type to simply display "IE is not supported", leaving no other option for IE users to upload pictures because I've spent so much time writing the uploader which does many things other than just upload the files. I will be changing this kinda cold "Access Denied" to a suggestion to upgrade, or install other browsers, with download links for each. Big thanks for the posts here and the interesting links!

Beyond Cloud Technology, Enabling A More Agile and Responsive Organization

This is the second part of the blog “Clouds, Clouds Everywhere But not a Drop of Rain”. In the first part, I was sharing with you how a broad-based transformation makes cloud more than a technology initiative, I will describe in this section how it requires people (organizational) and process changes as well, and these changes are as critical as is the choice of right tools and technology. People: Most IT organizations have a fairly complex organizational structure. There are different groups, managing different pieces of the puzzle, and yet, they don't always work together. Provisioning a new application therefore may require a request to float endlessly through system administrators, DBAs and middleware admin worlds – resulting in long delays and constant finger pointing. Cloud users expect end-to-end automation - which requires these silos to be greatly simplified, if not completely eliminated. Most customers I talk to acknowledge this problem but are quick to admit that such a transformation is hard. As hard as it may be, I am afraid that the status quo is no longer an option. Sticking to an organizational structure that was created ages back will not only impede cloud adoption, it also risks making the IT skills increasingly irrelevant in a world that is rapidly moving towards converged applications and infrastructure. Process: Most IT organizations today operate with a mindset that they must fully "control" access to any and all types of IT services. This in turn leads to people clinging on to outdated manual approval processes . While requiring approvals for scarce resources makes sense, insisting that every single request must be manually approved defeats the very purpose of cloud. Not only this causes delays, thereby at least partially negating the agility benefits, it also results in gross inefficiency. In a cloud environment, self-service access should be governed by policies, quotas that the administrators can define upfront . For a cloud initiative to be successful, IT organizations MUST be ready to empower users by giving them real control rather than insisting on brokering every single interaction between users and the cloud resources. Technology: From a technology perspective, cloud is about consolidation, standardization and automation. A consolidated and standardized infrastructure helps increase utilization and reduces cost. Additionally, it enables a much higher degree of automation - thereby providing users the required agility while minimizing operational costs. Obviously, automation is the key to cloud. Unfortunately it hasn’t received as much attention within enterprises as it should have. Many organizations are just now waking up to the criticality of automation and it still often gets relegated to back burner in favor of other "high priority" projects. However, it is important to understand that without the right type and level of automation, cloud will remain a distant dream for most enterprises. This in turn makes the choice of the cloud management software extremely critical. For a cloud management software to be effective in an enterprise environment, it must meet the following qualifications: Broad and Deep Solution It should offer a broad and deep solution to enable the kind of broad-based transformation we are talking about. Its footprint must cover physical and virtual systems, as well as infrastructure, database and application tiers. Too many enterprises choose to equate cloud with virtualization. While virtualization is a critical component of a cloud solution, it is just a component and not the whole solution. Similarly, too many people tend to equate cloud with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). While it is perfectly reasonable to treat IaaS as a starting point, it is important to realize that it is just the first stepping stone - and on its own it can only provide limited business benefits. It is actually the higher level services, such as (application) platform and business applications, that will bring about a more meaningful transformation to your enterprise. Run and Manage Efficiently Your Mission Critical Applications It should not only be able to run your mission critical applications, it should do so better than before. For enterprises, applications and data are the critical business assets As such, if you are building a cloud platform that cannot run your ERP application, it isn't truly a "enterprise cloud". Also, be wary of vendors who try to sell you the idea that your applications must be written in a certain way to be able to run on the cloud. That is nothing but a bogus, self-serving argument. For the cloud to be meaningful to enterprises, it should adopt to your applications - and not the other way around. Automated, Integrated Set of Cloud Management Capabilities At the root of many of the problems plaguing enterprise IT today is complexity. A complex maze of tools and technology, coupled with archaic processes, results in an environment which is inflexible, inefficient and simply too hard to manage. Management tool consolidation, therefore, is key to the success of your cloud as tool proliferation adds to complexity, encourages compartmentalization and defeats the very purpose that you are building the cloud for. Decision makers ought to be extra cautious about vendors trying to sell them a "suite" of disparate and loosely integrated products as a cloud solution. An effective enterprise cloud management solution needs to provide a tightly integrated set of capabilities for all aspects of cloud lifecycle management. A simple question to ask: will your environment be more or less complex after you implement your cloud? More often than not, the answer will surprise you. I recently upgraded from windows eight to windows 8.1 I do not know if this has anything to do with anything I have a 64 bit OS. My Internet goes off by itself every 5 minutes even though my wireless icon at the lower right of the screen still shows connected I had an error message in the last event in it said that might DHCP settings were out of range. I get my internet at my house through a wireless portable hotspot through my smart phone. But i haven't ever had any problems before and i only have this problem on this network. If i turn airplane mode on and reset my network card, the internet will come back to life but soon die. i don't experience this problem while on a different network or if i'm on WiFi. Questions about TinyMCE. Or suggestions on a compariable product.

Hi I am using jquery 1.3.2 and asp.net mvc 1.0. Originally I was using some other rich html editor but I ran into one major problem when a user pasted in text from open office or MS office it would bring along tons of styling junk. If a user like wrote one sentence what was like 25 characters and pasted that into my current html editor the count would 25,000 characters and I don't want to store all that junk( I can't afford to). So tinyMCE seems to not have this problem. However I got some questions. It seems if you want to use for commercial use(what my site is but currently is not making very much at this time) you need to get a commercial license. However it does not say if it is free or if it will cost money. I am assuming it means that you will have to pay but I would like to confirm this. So do you have to pay for a license to use tinyMCe if your using it for commercial use? (Yes/ No) ------------------ Answer the following questions if you said "no" to the first question ----------- So would I use the jQuery package then or is it better to use the other versions? What is this .net compressor zip for? Do I need it? I only want a few of the buttons(like bold,font size) can I remove the other buttons? It seems to display a word count. How to parse out MS Word formatting?

I have a rich html textbox on my asp.net mvc application. The rich html textbox is some jquery plugin that I use and has basic stuff like bold,underline and etc. Now I am anticipating that people will maybe write something in word and then copy and paste it into my textbox. However I limit the number of characters a person can have. This is a test to show how much formatting gets made. • One • Two • Three So I wrote that above(it does not copy to well into here). Basically it is a line of text and "how" is bold and the "one,two,three" are a bullet list. Word says it is 70 characters long with spacing. Using Nortel Netdirect on Windows 7 64bit

Does anyone know how to use Nortel Netdirect (Version 7.1.3.0) with Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium)? There are several ways available to me for connecting, all of which work for me on a 32-bit XP machine: Nortel Contivity VPN client (v6_02.022). The installer appears to be 16-bit, so I can't even install it on a 64-bit machine. Web-based SSL via IE Web-based SSL via Firefox The Web-based SSL process is supposed to load Netdirect and start it up, establishing the VPN connection. Using Firefox, I'm able to authenticate with my smartcard, but when it tries to download the applet, the process stops with a message box saying that it couldn't download the zip file. If I run Firefox in Vista compatibility mode, it gets a little farther, and manages to start Netdirect, but then exits after notifying me that the netdirect adapter was not installed. I am downloading reports from an AIX-based system by directing them to a TT printer which the terminal emulator (MultiView 2000) intercepts and directs to the default printer on the local system. This local printer is configured as a vanilla Generic/Text printer attached to a FILE port. When I print from AIX, the output is spooled down and the local printer prompts for a file name into which to save the file...but not under Windows 7. This has worked fine for many years, on both Win2K and WinXP. However, on Windows 7 the output gets spooled as a file into spool\PRINTERS (and looks as expected) but the print job then hangs with a status of "Error - Printing" and never prompts for a file name. I have to cancel the job. The Generic/Text printer works as expected with other applications. I have tried setting the printer to print directly rather than spooling but this only serves to hang the terminal session too. I've also tried to run the emulator in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator in case it was something like that but with no luck. As you might expect, it does work fine in XP Mode (as long as I print to a printer defined therein and not the host's printer) but operationally this isn't going to be an option. Obviously this emulation software is a decade old (at least) and I could just cross/upgrade all the users (at a cost) but, before I do so, has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before and found some sort of fix? Moving from ColdFusion 8 to ColdFusion 10 - Migration Fails

After having made several attempts to migrate from a ColdFusion 8 Standard server to a ColdFusion 10 Standard server, it feels like I am "almost" there. I'm using the 64 bit installer from Adobe's website. I'm using a Windows Server 2008 (64 bit) server with IIS 7.0. The installation itself goes smooth and the services start and are running. But at the end of the installation it says "ColdFusion Installed, but with errors" and it generates a log file. The log file reads: Migration Error: : Check that "C:\ColdFusion8" is a valid directory and is an installation of either ColdFusion MX 6 or ColdFusionMX 7 and further down says: Status: WARNING Additional Notes: WARNING - Could not migrate settings from previous version of ColdFusion Custom Action: com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction Status: ERROR Additional Notes: ERROR - class com.macromedia.ia.action.MigrateColdFusionAction NonfatalInstallException null The applicationHost.config file has new XML referencing the ColdFusion 10 directory, but IIS is still using ColdFusion 8. I'm also going to guess that the settings in the CF Administrator have not been migrated based on the message in the log above. I've followed the instructions on Adobe's site, including ensuring that ASP.NET, CGI, ISAPI Extensions, and ISAPI Filters are all enabled. I've also enabled IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility even though I don't think it's needed. Has anyone else had similar issues with ColdFusion 10 and IIS 7. Hyper-V Server 2012 with Zambezi AMD FX-Series - Hardware assisted virtualization not present

I'm trying to set up VDI across Windows Server 2012 VMs running on Hyper-V 2012. The wizard's compatibility check for the Virtualization Host server failed with "Hardware-assisted virtualization is not present on the server". I'm running an FX-8120 CPU and have the ASUS M5A97 motherboard. I know I'm supposed to enable No-Execute (Hyper-V Hardware Considerations) but I cannot find that or any other synonyms of it in my motherboards UEFI BIOS (NX, XD, EVP, XN... nothing). I found this: PAE/NX/SSE2 Support Requirement Guide for Windows 8 which in short says "Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 requires that systems must have processors that support NX, and NX must be turned on for important security safeguards to function effectively and avoid potential security vulnerabilities." this leads me to believe NX is on by default if I was able to get this far and install Hyper-V 2012 and Windows Server 2012.. Also I tried to disable AVX in cmd with "bcdedit /set xsavedisable 1". Did not resolve My processor is Zambezi FX-8120 and also supports RVI/SLAT/other synonym: processor: Newegg Processor FX-8120 support proof: AMD Processors with Rapid Virtualization Indexing Required to Run Hyper-V in Windows 8 What's going on here? I bought this CPU specifically after I had the same problems with an older AMD Athelon II and made sure to buy one with AMD-V and RVI. Thank you

Why can't I ssh into my server using my private key?

I just setup my new server as I used to, and this time I can't login using my private key. The server is ubuntu 11.04. It is caused by uploading the key using rsync -chavz instead of scp, after I used scp to upload my key, the issue is gone. Can someone explain it? Later, I tried rsync -chv, still not working

Cannot connect to my EC2 instance because of "Permission denied (publickey)"

In AWS console, I saw that my key pair was deleted. I created a new one with the same name. 3GB RAM Installed and Detected by BIOS, Windows Vista 32bit Only Sees 2GB

I am attempting to install more RAM on a Windows Vista 32bit machine which is using a X6DAL-XG motherboard and the RAM amount reported in the BIOS is 3GB+, but Windows is only reporting 2GB installed. The motherboard has 6 RAM bays which I have populated with various combinations of 4 1GB sticks, and 2 512mb sticks, but no matter how I configure them Windows doesn't see more than 2GB. I realize of course 32-bit Windows has a 3gb cap on memory, but that doesn't explain why it will only report 2GB when there are in fact (currently) 5GB installed. I should think I would be able to see at least 3GB. According to the spec list for the motherboard the minimum RAM requirements are DDR333/266mhz installed in pairs. I have done this exactly, and the BIOS isn't reporting any problems at POST. RAM Configuration (according to CPU-Z): Slot #1: Kingston 128mx72D266C25 - 1024mb PC2100 (133mhz) Slot #2: Kingston KVR266X72RC25/1024 - 1024mb PC2100 (133mhz) Slot #3: PQI - 512mb PC2700 (166mhz) Slot #4: Kingston 128mx72D266C25 - 1024mb PC2100 (133mhz) Slot #5: Kingston KVR266X72RC25/1024 - 1024mb PC2100 (133mhz) Slot #6: PQI - 512mb PC2700 (166mhz) I'm not sure if memory specs above conflict with this statement in the motherboard manual or not: Memory Support The X6DAL-XG supports up to 12GB/24GB of registered ECC DDR333/266 (PC2700/PC2100) memory. The motherboard was designed to support 4GB (PC2100) modules in each slot, but only the 2GB modules have been tested. When using registered ECC DDR333 (PC2700) memory, installing four pieces of double-banked memory or six pieces of single-banked memory is supported. So, am I doing something wrong with the RAM I have now, or is there some sort of compatibility problem which I am missing? Thanks!

memcached append() php ubuntu - bad protocol

I am running ubuntu gutsy(7.1) , php5 and I am trying to get memcached running locally. I installed everything as per the docs: memcached daemon, php PECL extension, libevent, etc. But now I can only run half of the example script for memcached append(): <?php $m = new Memcached(); $m->addServer('localhost', 11211); $m->setOption(Memcached::OPT_COMPRESSION, false); $m->set('foo', 'abc'); $m->append('foo', 'def'); var_dump($m->get('foo')); ?> the script terminates @ append() with an RES_BAD_PROTOCOL error message. It still runs the get(). I don't know why memcached would otherwise be working fine (connect, set, get - with the correct value of 'abc') and not work for append. it also doesnt work with prepend. I believe I have the setup correct, but I am not sure. Maybe there are compatibility problems between the versions of the dependecies? thanks much

Tomcat 7 on Ubuntu 12.04 startup issues

I am having trouble getting tomcat 7 to start up on my new VPS. I am really scratching my head since I have done this often. So I'm thinking it might be the VPS. I just got a new VPS from CINFU. After a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 32bit, I install openjdk-6-jdk, update JAVA_HOME to point to: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386 and JRE_HOME to: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386/jre But when I try to run: ./catalina.sh run it simply outputs: Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29 Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/temp Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-i386 Using CLASSPATH: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/bin/bootstrap.jar:/opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-7.0.29/bin/tomcat-juli.jar and stops. It just hangs there doing nothing. I have also tried a few other things like explicitly exporting the paths etc in catalina.sh, and running ./startup.sh rather than catalina.sh, but the furthest I have gotten is that it finishes deploying all the WARs (the default ones that comes with tomcat like the host-manager etc), but then it hangs: Aug 24, 2012 8:47:30 PM org.apache.coyote.AbstractProtocol init INFO: Initializing ProtocolHandler ["http-bio-8080"] and does nothing. Anyone have any pointers that might help? As I said, I must really be missing something stupid since this has worked on all other VPSs that we have. UPDATE I figured out that the problem is actually the fact that they use OpnVZ virtualization and that there are known compatibility problems with Java.
