• My LAN USB NIC is not working in ubuntu 11.10?

• Best way to load application settings

  A simple way to keep the settings of a Java application is represented by a text file with ".properties" extension containing the identifier of each setting associated with a specific value (this value may be a number, string, date, etc..). C# uses a similar approach, but the text file must be named "App.config". In both cases, in source code you must initialize a specific class for reading settings: this class has a method that returns the value (as string) associated with the specified setting identifier. // Java example Properties config = new Properties(); config.load(...); String valueStr = config.getProperty("listening-port"); // ... // C# example NameValueCollection setting = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings; string valueStr = setting["listening-port"]; // ... In both cases we should parse strings loaded from the configuration file and assign the ??converted values to the related typed objects (parsing errors could occur during this phase). After the parsing step, we must check that the setting values ??belong to a specific domain of validity: for example, the maximum size of a queue should be a positive value, some values ??may be related (example: min < max), and so on. Suppose that the application should load the settings as soon as it starts: in other words, the first operation performed by the application is to load the settings. Any invalid values for the settings ??must be replaced automatically with default values??: if this happens to a group of related settings, those settings are all set with default values. The easiest way to perform these operations is to create a method that first parses all the settings, then checks the loaded values ??and finally sets any default values??. However maintenance is difficult if you use this approach: as the number of settings increases while developing the application, it becomes increasingly difficult to update the code. If I run phpunit --configuration phpunit.xml --coverage-html \log or phpunit --configuration phpunit.xml --coverage-html log I get the error The Xdebug extension is not loaded. But I installed it (version 2.0.5)! phpinfo() says I installed it, also var_dump(extension_loaded('xdebug')) I get true. I installed it as Zend Extension and I tried also as normal extension. Bot worked, but PHPUnit says everytime Xdebug is not loaded!

  Hello, I am upgrading a project from EntLib 4.1 to EntLib 5. I've skimmed through the Migration Guide, changed all the references and updated all the config files to point to EntLib 5. All worked fine accept Oracle database access. With the config file: <configuration> <configSections> <section name="dataConfiguration" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Configuration.DatabaseSettings, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data, Version=5.0.414.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" requirePermission="true" /> </configSections> <dataConfiguration defaultDatabase="prod"> <providerMappings> <add databaseType="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Oracle.OracleDatabase, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data" name="Oracle.DataAccess.Client" /> </providerMappings> </dataConfiguration> <connectionStrings> <add name="prod" connectionString="Data Source=dev;User Id=dev;Password=dev;" providerName="Oracle.DataAccess.Client" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> which worked with 4.1 all calls to DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase() fails with: System.InvalidOperationException: The type Database cannot be constructed. You must configure the container to supply this value. If I replace Oracle.DataAccess.Client with the Microsoft System.Data.Oracleclient it all works again, but is not full of ODP.net lovelyness.   I'm trying to add <session-management> in my Spring Security namespace configuration so that I can provide a different message than the login page when the session times out. As soon as I add it to my configuration it starts throwing "IllegalStateException: Cannot create a session after the response has been committed" when I access the app. I'm using Spring Security 3 and Tomcat 6.   I've been working on a little Silverlight utility which calls a Silverlight web service. It works from my dev machine (XPsp2). I've tried publishing it to a 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 server and it doesn't work when trying to contact the web service. So I've tried using the WcfTestClient to connect to the web service. That gave an error. So I turned off CustomErrors and used IE and I get the following. Any idea why? There's no App_Code folder in the app. Failed to map the path '/app42/App_Code/'.   I want to enable form based authentication by using database as realm but I'm always getting that message whenever I try to authenticate as Tomcat manager in Tomcat 6. I have already created a table user_name and user_roles and mapped the username(blue) to admin and manager as role in user_roles table in mysql, but still I'm unable to authenticate and enable form based authentication. • Sharing an assembly between ASP.NET and Silverlight

  Hi, I've created an assembly to share it between my main app and the silverlight app. At the beginning it looked like it was going to work but now I get this exception: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException was caught, Message="Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq". I'm using .NET 3.5 Sp1 and Silverlight 3. That shared assembly uses System.Xml.Linq, and it cannot find it... I think because it is trying to find that version in the .NET framework instead looking in the silverlight one. How can I fix this? Cheers. • Eclipse Helios - Not Stopping at Breakpoints (Help!)

  Dear Eclipse Expert, I recently upgraded from Eclipse Galileo to Helios. Helios stops at breakpoints ONLY when debugging "as a PHP Script", but not when debugging "as a Web Page". When debugging as a web page, it looks like the correct debug query string to start a debug session is getting tacked on to the url, like so: http://localhost/hello.php?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP &KEY=129798139020511 but elipse does not stop at the breakpoints. It just zooms thru the code and displays the output in the browser.   How bad is it to use Location Manager to retrieve the location information when MapView.showUserLocation is also TRUE? I have a situation where i want to show the blue dot to indicate the user's current location, and i want to record the user's current location after some time interval. Having said that, there may be situations where the user's current location is now being shown, but i still want to get the user's current location. I think i'll have to use the Location Manager in my controller class, but setting showUserLocation = YES would mean that i'll be draining more battery since two Location Managers are working at the same time? Is this assumption correct?

• Why does CLLocationManager returns null locations on the iphone SDK 4 beta in the Simulator?

  Hi everyone, I have this piece of code: - (void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"Manager did update location!!"); self.currentLocation = newLocation.description; } I have this code inside a class that conforms to the CLLocationManagerDelegate. I tested earlier in sdk 3.0 and works nice (on both simulator and device). I'm testing this class on the SDK 4, in the simulator, but it gives null as a newLocation. I can't even get the NSLog for the first call. I checked other app where I use the location framework and it doesn't work either. I implemented the locationManager:didFailWithError: message also, wich is never called. Can anyone please confirm that the simulator can't do any CLLocationManager capabilities? (a link where the bug is reported as a known issue will be awesome). Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

  Followed the instructions on the Rails wiki and have had success connecting to SQL Server 2000 with TSQL -- both with DSN-less and DNS connections. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.3. Wiki instructions here. Installed ruby-odbc, dbi (0.4.0), dbd-odbc (2.4.5), activerecord-sqlserver-adapter (2.3.5). In my database.yml (Rails 2.3.6): development: adapter: sqlserver mode: ODBC dsn: 'DRIVER=/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so;TDS_Version=8.0;SERVER=mssql01.discountasp.net;DATABASE=DB_164368_dmusd;Port=1433;uid=DB_164368_dmusd_user;pwd=Schools77;' This yields the following error: ODBC::Error: S1090 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Invalid string or buffer length When I attempt to use a DSN connection, I get the following error: ODBC::Error: IM002 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified I have in fact verified that the FreeTDS driver (libtdsodbc.so) is installed and the path correct. • Problem with room/screen/menu controller in python game: old rooms are not removed from memory

  I'm literally banging my head against a wall here (as in, yes, physically, at my current location, I am damaging my cranium). Basically, I've got a Python/Pygame game with some typical game "rooms", or "screens." EG title screen, high scores screen, and the actual game room. Something bad is happening when I switch between rooms: the old room (and its various items) are not removed from memory, or from my event listener. Not only that, but every time I go back to a certain room, my number of event listeners increases, as well as the RAM being consumed! (So if I go back and forth between the title screen and the "game room", for instance, the number of event listeners and the memory usage just keep going up and up. The main issue is that all the event listeners start to add up and really drain the CPU. I'm new to Python, and don't know if I'm doing something obviously wrong here, or what. • Make a service monitor and restart process

  Hi, i'm making an app that needs to be up and running at all times. (24/7) I'm not very expirienced with services, but I read on the internet that services can be made uncolasble by setting their "onclose" property to false. I have got the service monitoring my app, and the service can't be closed directly from the task manager services window... but, when I click "go to process" task manager leads me to the process the service spawned. From there I can close the process and instantly close the service. Since I don't have much expirience with services i'm wondering, is this behavior normal? If not, how to make the service unstopable?

• IIS 6 with wildcard mapping and UNC virtual directory problem

  Hi. On our production servers (win 2003 with IIS6 and load balanced with an F5 BIGIP), we have a problem when introducing wildcardmapping on IIS6. We use .net Framework 3.5 SP1. The issue manifests itself as by the server only sometimes serving the images stored on a virtual directory pointing to a UNC path. Sometimes the images are displayed, and sometimes not. Removing the wildcard mapping solved this problem. I will need wildcard mapping on the server for future features, so any help/pointers to if this is a known problem will be very helpful. In advance, thanks for any help.
