  As part of our current project the Build Management team asked for a solution to undeploy multiple composites at one time. Of course you have the “Undeploy All from This Partition” menu option in Enterprise Manager but since we have a lot of deployments every day the guys wanted to have a script solution. It is even more important for the nightly deployments on our continuous integration environment – strange, we couldn’t find anybody who wants to do the undeployment via Enterprise Manager manually every night ;-) However with WLST or ANT the SOA Suite comes with two options to undeploy composites via script. In this article I’d like to explain you both ways. Undeployment with WLST You can test the steps below on Oracle's Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g. • django & postgres linux hosting (with SSH access) recommendations

  We're looking for a good place to host our custom Django app (a fork of OSQA) and its postgresql backend. Requirements include: Linux Python 2.6 or (ideally) Python 2.7 Django 1.2 Postgres 8.4 or later DB backup/restore handled by the hoster, not us OS & dev-platform-stack patching/maintenance handled by the hoster, not us SSH access (so we can pull source code from GitHub, so we can install python eggs, etc.) ability to set up cron jobs (e.g. to send out dail email updates) ability to send up to 10K emails/day good performance (not ganged up with a zillion other sites on one CPU, not starved for RAM) FTP or SCP access to web logs dedicated public IP SSL support Costs under $1000/month for a relatively small site (<5M pageviews/month) Good customer service We already have a prototype site running on EC2 on top of a Bitnami DjangoStack. The problem is that we have to patch the OS, patch postgres, etc. We'd really prefer a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering, like Heroku offers for Rails apps, where all we need to worry about is deploying our code instead of worrying about system software patching and maintenance. Google App Engine is closest to what we're looking for, but they don't offer relational DB access (not yet at least). Anyone have a recommendation?

• Modded Portal Gun Levitates a Companion Cube [Video]

  This cleverly designed Portal gun prop levitates a model Companion Cube; the whole setup just begs to be paired with a Halloween costume. Courtesy of Caleb over at Hack A Day: I was out to lunch with a couple friends, brainstorming ideas for fun projects when one of them says “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could build a working gravity gun?”. We all immediately concurred that while it would in fact be cool, it is also a silly proposition. However, only a few seconds later, I realized we could do a display piece that emulated this concept very easily. Floating magnetic globes have been around for quite some time. I determined I would tear the guts out of a stock floating globe and mount it on a portal gun, since they’re easier to find than a gravity gun. • TechEd 2010 - New Orleans

  We're a little more than half way through TechEd 2010 in New Orleans and I am having a hard time finding interesting breakout sessions to attend.  Laura Chappell has completed all of her sessions, and Andy Malone is almost done.  Laura's sessions on Wireshark have been amazing.  Andy is always entertaining and informative.  I did sit through a session this afternoon on IPv6 that was interesting.  I will spend the final day in the Hands on Labs area working through some PowerShell, and Communication Server 14 labs.  The speakers for two of my breakouts had written interesting books.  I went to the conference bookstore to pick them up and found both to be sold out.  They did offer to ship the books to me with the TechEd 20 percent discount. I'm not real sure who thought it would be a good idea to hold a conference in June in New Orleans.  It has been HUMID.  On top of that TechEd 2011 will be in my hometown, Atlanta.

• Almost time to hit the road again

  I’ve had a few months of not much traveling, but now that the weather is improving… conference season is starting up again. That means it’s time for me to start hitting the road. In June, I have Tech Ed 2010 in New Orleans, LA. I lived in New Orleans for several years, both as military and civilian and I have a few friends still down there. I haven’t been there since before Hurricane Katrina, so I have mixed feelings about returning… but I am still looking forward to it. Also in June, I have Codestock in Knoxville, TN. Codestock is one of my favorite events, primarily because of the excellent people that speak there and also attend sessions. It’s a great mix of people and technologies. Sometime in July or August, I’m headed to Austin, TX for a couple days. I don’t know the exact date yet, but if you have an event down there in that timeframe, let me know and maybe we can sort something out. In September, I’m heading to Seattle for my first PAX (Penny Arcade Expo.)  I’m going strictly as an attendee and it looks like a LOT of fun. Really excited to check it out. Also in September, I’m headed to Omaha for the Heartland Developers Conference. This is a FANTASTIC event, and certainly one of my local favorites. (I guess local is relative, it’s about a 6 hour drive.) In addition to speaking on WP7, I’ll be doing a series of hands on labs on XNA they day before the conference starts, so that should be a lot of fun as well.   In addition to all this stuff, I have my own XNA User Group to take care of. In August, Andy “The Z-Man” Dunn is coming to speak and check out the various food on a stick offerings at the Minnesota State Fair!

• Is .Net Going to Die As far as Server Apps and Desktop Apps are concerned? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What does Windows 8 mean for the future of .NET? The Windows 8 preview doesn't mention .Net, and the demo seems to showcase what HTML, CSS and Javascript can do on Windows 8 OS. The impression I get from watching it is that HTML , Javascript is going to figure prominently in Windows 8, even for the traditional windows desktop applications. That, couple with the fact that there is no mentioning of .Net 5 and Visual Studio 2012 or 2013( MS is pretty quick to announce the next generation VS tools) yet, makes me worry that sooner or later, Microsoft will abandon the .Net platform completely. Yes, not just abandoning Silverlight, but the .Net platform in general. Which means that all the desktop apps, server apps you wrote in .Net is going to be obsolete, much like how VB6 apps are now obsolete. Is .Net going to die? Of course you won't find that all .Net apps stop running tomorrow. But will there be a day-- even when at that time Microsoft is alive and kicking-- when .Net apps are looked upon as legacy apps in the way we perceive VB6 apps? • Bright Minds in Singapore: Oracle Graduate Hiring

   Last week I was in Singapore and had the opportunity to take part in our graduate interviewing that we are currently undertaking as part of our ASEAN hiring. I always feel fortunate to get the chance to meet and talk with students in the APAC region and taking time to meet some of the students we interviewed in Singapore last week is no exception. The excitement and enthusiasm of many of the students that I spoke to last week really stands out but what really brought some of them to the forefront for me was their creative ways of thinking and the level of professionalism that I saw in the students. Some of the presentation and communication skills that I saw displayed would rival experienced IT Consultants in the industry.  We still have more interviews to follow up from last week, but I am confident that of the students we had the chance to meet last week some of them will go on to have bright and successful careers here at Oracle.  To all the students that came in and spent the day with us, I want to thank you for giving us your time and for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us. From a business perspective I think you all will go on and do great things and from a personal stand point I enjoyed many of the conversations I had and feel lucky to meet with you. Best of luck with the remainder of your interviews and I hope to see some of you in the halls on my next visit to Singapore.

  It is a good idea to have a unique profile in MOSC. Your activities there are better recognized and might even become a well known brand! This leads to recognition and trust. My Oracle Support Communities (MOSC)  is a well established platform where experiences are shared. Reputation and trust are the basis for the quality of all communication there. A personalized  profile can help to build up a good reputation. Besides the experience counter, a good name, details about your location and business experience are valuable details. Although a little bit hidden, the profile's avatar can be customized, too. The profile's avatar is an eye catcher and can act as an unique visual representation for  you.  How to add / modify MOSC profile avatar (picture, icon)  ?    Don't look in Edit Profile section. After login, click on  your profile's name on top right.   This lists all public information as part of the Bio section. Select the Activity tab. The Change Avatar link is on same level at far right. A list of predefined symbolic pictures is populated. Choose from the list of existing pictures or try Add Another to upload an image file from your local computer (JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP only, maximum file size of 2.0 MB). Note: New added images can be used only after running through a review process. Usually after one business day they can be selected for your personal avatar.

• Dirt Cheap Bi-Directional Antenna Wirelessly Extends Your LAN

  If you’re looking for an effective way to link remote LANs without the hassle of laying cable, this DIY bi-directional antenna is a quick (and cheap) method for bringing internet access to outbuildings and other locations. Tinker Danilo Larizza needed to share internet access between apartments that are relatively close together but not hardwired–ruling out simply sharing the access via existing LAN infrastructure. His solution combines a simple scrap wire antenna array mounted inside a plastic food bin (seen here with the cover removed to show the antenna) and some coaxial cable to link the antenna to two routers. Our favorite part about his build is that he constructed the pair to establish if the antenna setup would even work in his location and intended to buy commercial antennas if it did; his Tupperware models worked so well, however, they’re now the permanent solution. • WordPress injection?

  I don't really know how to express my problem, so bear with me. This is a bit hard to explain. I have a Wordpress installation, the latest, and often (once a day) my site redirects users to the /wp-admin/install.php file. Asking for my login credentials of course. I have tried reinstalling WordPress and still have not been able to figure what they are doing. That happens regularly. Also, a few hours later, I am able to see my site normally. Hope this makes sense. I suspect there myst be some database DoS that allows them to inject a redirect of some sort into my admin area, thus redirecting the user to said directory (install.php). But that's just me. I really have no clue what else could they be doing. I looked at the source code from several php files and noted some of them don't include a ? tag. Could that be an issue? My hosting company is iPage, I've contacted them and they say there's nothing wrong with my files. Anyone have a clue? I can paste the code to any source file.

This is all new to me :) I'm too new to post pictures, but here are my keywords (Searches, SEO Traffic, and SEO Value / Day): Searches | SEO Traffic | PBR | SEO Value | Average PR/Backlinks of Current Top 10 1: 730 | 307 | 20% | 2311.33 | 1.9 / 7k-60k 2: 325 | 137 | 24% | 822.94 | 2.3 / 7k-60k 3: 398 | 167 | 82% | 589.79 | 1.6 / 7k-60k I'm wondering if the PBR (Phrase-to-broad) value of #1 is too low. It seems like the best value because the SEOV is crazy high. That is like $70k a month. #3 has the highest PBR, but also the lowest SEOV. #2 doesn't seem worth it because of the PR competetion. Might be a little too hard to get into the top page of Google. I'm wondering which keywords to target, and if I should be looking at any other metric to see if this is a profitable niche to jump into. Thanks.

• MSDN Live 2010 &ndash; Delivered : 24 sessions (4 x 6) on Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server

  We (Mikael Nitell and me) got a whole track on the Norwegian MSDN Live tour this year.  We did these as a pair, and covered 4 cities over 4 days, 6 sessions per day, taking 8 hours to come through it.  The Islandic volcano made the travels a bit rough, but we managed 6 flights out of 8. The first one had to go by van instead, 7-8 hour drive each way together with other MSDN Live presenters – a memorable tour! Oslo was the absolute top point.  We had to change hall to a bigger one. People were crowding, and even the big hall was packed!  The presentations were mostly based on demos, but we had a few slides as well.  They have been uploaded to my SkyDrive.  Info to aliens – some of the text may be Norwegian. The sessions were as follows: Overview of news in Visual Studio and Team Foundation server 2010 Ensuring Quality with VS/TFS 2010 Releasing products with VS/TFS 2010 No More No Repro with VS/TFS 2010 Performance Testing and Parallel Programming with VS/TFS 2010 Migrating to VS/TFS 2010 Tips, tricks, news and some best practices with VS/TFS 2010   In the coming days, I will post up examples from the demos too, with explanations of how they are intended to work. These entries will also contain stuff we had to remove from the actual presentations due to the time constraints. We managed to create recordings of two of the sessions, which will be uploaded to Channel 9 by Microsoft, afaik.   I will update this blog with information about exact locations when that is done. • Advancing my Embedded knowledge.....with a CS degree.

  So I graduated last December with a B.S. in Computer Science, in a pretty good well known engineering college. However towards the end I realized that I actually like Assembly/Lower level C programming more than I actually enjoy higher level abstracted OO stuff. (Like I Programmed my own Device Drivers for USB stuff in Linux, stuff like that) But.....I mean we really didn't concentrate much on that in college, perhaps an EE/CE degree would've been better, but I knew the classes......and things weren't THAT much different. I've messed around with Atmel AVR's/Arduino stuff (Mostly robotics) and Linux Kernals/Device Drivers. but I really want to enhance my skills and maybe one day get a job doing embedded stuff. (I have a job now, it's An entry level software dev/tester job, it's a good job but not exactly what my passion lies in) (Im pretty good with C and certain ASM's for specific microcontrollers) Is this even possible with a CS degree? or am I screwed? (since technically my degree usually doesn't involve much embedded stuff) If Im NOT screwed then what should I be studying/learning? How would I even go about it........ I guess I could eventually say "Experienced with XXXX Microcontrollers/ASM/etc...." but still, it wouldn't be the same as having a CE/EE degree. Also....going back to college isn't an option. just fyi. edit: Any book recommendations for "getting used to this stuff" I have ARM System-on-Chip Architecture (2nd edition) it's good.....for ARM stuff lol

• How to mange big amount users at server side?

  I built a social android application in which users can see other users around them by gps location. at the beginning thing went well as i had low number of users, But now that I have increasing number of users (about 1500 +100 every day) I revealed a major problem in my design. In my Google App Engine servlet I have static HashMap that holding all the users profiles objects, currenty 1500 and this number will increase as more users register. Why I'm doing it Every user that requesting for the users around him compares his gps with other users and check if they are in his 10km radius, this happens every 5 min on average. That is why I can't get the users from db every time because GAE read/write operation quota will tare me apart. The problem with this desgin is As the number of users increased the Hashmap turns to null every 4-6 hours, I thing that this time is getting shorten but I'm not sure. I'm fixing this by reloading the users from the db every time I detect that it became null, But this causes DOS to my users for 30 sec, So I'm looking for better solution. I'm guessing that it happens because the size of the hashmap, Am I right? I have been advised to use spatial database, but that mean that I can't work with GAE any more and that mean that I need to build my big server all over again and lose my existing DB. Is there something I can do with the existing tools? Thanks.

• Ubuntu boot problem/unity failure

  So here I am sitting in a big pile of muck...over the last 2 days things have just been going from bad to worse with version of Ubuntu 12.10. So 2 days ago I was fiddling around with kismet and airmon-ng. I had added a bunch of libraries, I remember adding GTK+, Glib, Pango, etc. After restarting the other day my desktop opened fine but my background was changed to the default and none of my files on the desktop were visible and the top bar and side bar were not visible or functioning. The window managers were still working. I then tried reinstalling my nvidia drivers to see if that would change anything, it did not. Then after doing some searching online I found something that suggested I try deleting the file "libgtk-3.so.0". I deleted this and tried to restart the computer. Upon restart, I was greeted by a black screen with some writing saying something about -starting clamAV [OK] -problem with Apache Server could not verify correct...something... - checking battery state [ok]. After it gets to battery state it just stops and sits there indefinitely. So to sum, I cannot login to ubuntu because it just sits at this black screeen. If anyone has any idea as to what is going on and how to fix it please let me know. Thanks!
