• Are HTTP requests cached? [closed]

  Many HTTP requests are sent repeatedly by browsers on almost every page load, such as requesting the jQuery .js file etc. Since these are already used on too many sites doesn't modern browsers keep a cache for this? I am thinking of a system where the browser has a cached copy of the .js file used very very frequently. On a new request for the .js file, it sends the server a request for a hash of the .js file (provided the server can reply to that) and compares the returned hash with the cached copy's hash... rest is intuitive.

  I have a level class in which I make a new turret. I give the turret the level class as parameter. So far so good. Then in the Update function of the Turret I call a function Shoot(), which has that level parameter it got at the moment I created it. But from that moment it gives the following error: Inconsistent accessibility: parameter type 'Space_Game.Level' is less accessible than method 'Space_Game.GameObject.Shoot(Space_Game.Level, string)' All I know it has something to do with not thr right protection level or something like that. • Lost connectivity after configuring multiple network adapters on separate networks

  I am trying to setup an Ubuntu hosting server, currently just for development, and the server has two NICs, each sitting on a different network. eth0 is on 192.168.200.* and eth1 is on 192.168.101.* and each one has a static IP. eth0 is the public facing NIC card and eth1 is strictly for internal access to the server. I initially only setup eth0 and added the eth1 card when I needed it. eth0 was working find until I added eth1, now, can't get any connectivity on eth0 unless I pull eth1 out of the box. The configuration on each system is as follows: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.200.94 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.200.0 broadcast 192.168.200.255 gateway 192.168.200.253 auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.101.64 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.101.0 broadcast 192.168.101.255 gateway 192.168.101.254 Again eth0 worked fine until I added eth1. I have seen this happen with Windows servers if you have a Default Gateway setup for both NICs, but I am not sure if this works the same on Ubuntu. • Help with a formula for Google Adwords [closed]

  Hi guys, This question is more about maths and algorythms in Google Adwords but guess it's the most appropriate community in SE to ask this. I am creating a spreadsheet to calculate Adword formulas and I am stuck in how to calculate the Monthly Net Income for each keyword. I have created a formula which calculates it but can't figure out how to limit the Monthly Budget. • Wordpress serving PHP but not CSS or JS

  I'm trying to set up an Amazon EC2 instance to run a Django app and a WP instance side by side, differing only by the incoming URL. Initially, accessing the site via mysite.com/wordpress worked, but I also needed to catch the incoming requests from a subdomain address blog.mysite.com. To do that, I created a default file in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled and included two virtualhost directives, one of which was <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.blog.mysite.com <Directory /var/www/wordpress> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> This created some errors with the other virtualhost, so I restored the default 000-default file configuration and restarted. Now, accessing mysite.com/wordpress takes forever, and even then the CSS and JS files are not loading. Iside the Firebug Net tab, I can see the HTML response, but the CSS and JS files are not loading at all. What happened here?

• Is it legal or good idea to have a backup of all client sites on my own server

  I have seen many times that if we build a website for a client then there is a possibility that this site gets changed over a period of time. I was thinking that from now onwards whichever site I make I will host a copy of the site on a personal server. Like client1.myserver.com so that even if they change it I have the copy of it. So that if I need to show someone or I need to refer myself few things I have the proof there. I will not make them public but will password protect it. I want to know whether this is legal and a good idea or not.

• Changed folder icon in WinXP and now clicking a folder opens in a new window.

  I got bored and decided to change my folder icon from the boring yellow default. Somewhere in my experiments, I discovered that anytime I open a folder it opens in a "search" window. This happened because when I go to the "(file folder)" type, the only option in there is "find" that is not supposed to be the default; upon saving this form XP tries to do me a favour and sets this as the new default. Now whenever I try to click a folder it opens the search window. How do I fix this?

• Grub menu not waiting despite of GRUB_TIMEOUT=10

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed along side of windows 7. The grub menu doesn't seem obey GRUB_TIMEOUT=10, I see the grub menu there for a split second and it immediately defaults to the first option. Grub menu worked fine when I first installed ubuntu. I am not able to pinpoint what exactly broke it(maybe some update?). I did resize my ubuntu partition using gparted but am not sure if that is what caused it. here are my settings from etc/default/grub GRUB_DEFAULT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" How do I fix this? • maxItemsInObjectGraph limit required to be changed for server and client

  We have a wcf service, that expects to return a huge XML data. It worked ok in testing, but in production it failed with error  "Maximum number of items that can be serialized or deserialized in an object graph is '65536'. Change the object graph or increase the MaxItemsInObjectGraph quota."The MSDN article about   dataContractSerializer xml configuration  element  correctly  describes maxItemsInObjectGraph attribute default as 65536, but documentation for of the DataContractSerializer.MaxItemsInObjectGraph property and DataContractJsonSerializer.MaxItemsInObjectGraph Property are talking about Int32.MaxValue, which causes confusion, in particular because Google shows properties articles before configuration articles.When we changed the value in WCF service configuration, it didn't help, because the similar change must be ALSO done on client.There are similar posts:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6298209/how-to-fix-maxitemsinobjectgraph-error/6298356#6298356You need to set the MaxItemsInObjectGraph on the dataContractSerializer using a behavior on both the client and service. • Can I virtualize a pre-installed Windows 7?

  I am considering buying a new computer with Windows 7 (64-bit) pre-installed. Would it be possible to install Ubuntu (preferably 64-bit) dual-boot on such a machine, and then, using VirtualBox / VMWare, etc. under Ubuntu, make a virtual machine that "points to" the existing Windows 7 OS (without making a copy of it)? Just to be clear... at the end of this process: I would have a machine that dual-booted both Windows 7 (64-bit) and Ubuntu (64-bit). If I choose to boot Ubuntu, I would then have the possibility of running a visualization of Windows 7 within Ubuntu. There would only be 1 copy of Windows 7 on the hard disk.

• Apply email retention policy to Inbox but not subfolders?

  Our official email policy states that email older than 90 days in the Inbox is moved to Deleted Items, not including subfolders of the Inbox. This wasn't a problem to implement in Exchange 2003. In 2010, however, it appears that Policy Tags applied to the Inbox also apply to its subfolders. How can I prevent this from occuring? • Windows 7 Boot Loader - Remove 30 second waiting time

  I've installed Fedora 17 and Windows 7 on two different hard disks as a dual-boot system. The default boot loader is GRUB 2 maintained and configured in Fedora 17. When I startup and choose "Windows 7 bootloader (on /dev/sda1)" in GRUB 2, Windows 7 boot loader will appear, with only Windows 7 as the only choice and also the default operating system, with a 30 second waiting time if no input is detected. I'm trying to see if it is possible to remove this 30-second waiting time. I've tried to follow the instructions on the Web by configuring default operating system in the control panel but seems there is something wrong with it. I've also tried to use "bcdedit enum /all" but still receives error prompts. Update: Added my boot tab screen in msconfig.

• Is there a certain way that I have to include a library and it's license?

  I know this may be a dumb question, but I'm only 15 so I don't really know how the legal part of it works. When I choose a .dll to be included in my project, Visual Studio only includes the .dll file with my project (of course) so I just copy the license and stick it in a folder called licenses. But now, I'm going to be making a program for a contest so I need to make sure I have the licenses done right or I'll get disqualified. So is there any specific location I have to keep the licenses in my project, is there a way for Visual Studio to automatically copy the license the way it does with .dll files and is there anything else I have to watch out for legally? PS: If it matters the libraries I'm planning on using right now are WriteableBitmapEx and AvalonDock Thanks

• SharePoint Session Management - which SQL Server option?

  We're developing some custom web parts for our WSS 3 intranet, and have just run into something we'd like to use ASP.NET sessions for. This isn't currently enabled on the development server. We'd like to use SQL Server as the storage mechanism, because the production environment is a web farm with very simple load-balancing. There are 3 options you can choose from to set up the SQL Server session storage, tempdb, default separate DB, named DB. Both tempdb and default separate DB create a new DB to store certain information in; tempdb stores the actual session info in tempdb, which doesn't survive a reboot, and default separate DB stores everything in the new DB. Since you've got to create the new DB either way, my question is this: why would you ever choose to store the session info in tempdb? The only thing I can think of is if you'd like to have the ability to wipe the session by rebooting the server, but that seems quite apocalyptic!

  I am looking for where the default Amazon AMI linux image sets up the privileges for the default ec2-user account. After logging in with this account I can use sudo successfully. Checking via the sudoers file, which I open by running visudo (with no other options) I see a few default settings and permissions for root ALL ALL So ... Where is the permissions for ec2-user assigned? I have not yet tried to add a new permission but ultimately I want to resign ec2-user for systems management tasks and use a non-full root user for administering the applications (stop and start mysql, httpd, edit apache's vhost files, and upload / edit web content under the web root)

• Is it possible to have a mutable type that is not garbage collected?

  I'm wondering if such a thing can exist. Can there be an object that is mutable but not flagged as garbage collected ( specifically, tp_flags & Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_GC ) I have a C++ struct-like object that I'm writing and I'd like to know if all of its members are immutable. I'm thinking of checking for the Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_GC flag to determine this. If all members are immutable I want to speed up the deepcopy by doing a faster shallow copy, since I know members are immutable then it shouldn't have to go through an expensive deep copy. Is this logically sound, or is there some mythical type that will blow me out of the water here.

  motherboard gigabyte GA-8I915PL-G, pentium 4 630 3,0 ghz dont run at default speed ; fsb 800, cpu host 200, cpu 3000 mhz but run some time at fsb 533 cpu host 133 cpu 2025 mhz some time at fsb 75 and cpu 1128 mhz only. when i set in easy tune default parametrs pc dont work. some time i clear cmos and i can set in bios default parametrs, some time clearing cmos dont help, bios i update. how i can fix this problem? sorry about my bad english.

• Someone tried to hack my Node.js server, need to understand a GET request in the logs

  Alright, so I left my Node.js server alone for a while and came back to find some really interesting stuff in the logs. Apparently some moron from China or Poland tried to hack my server using directory traversal and what not, while it seems though he did not succeed I am unable understand few entries in the log. This is the output of a "hohup.out" file. The attack starts, apparently he is trying to find out some console entry in my server. All of which fail and return a 404. How did the hacker even manage to send a GET request to my server such that "http://www.google.com" shows up in the log while my server is simply an API that works on relative URLs such as "/api/login". And, while I looked up the OPTIONS, TRACE and PROPFIND HTTP requests that my server has logged it would be great if someone could explain what exactly was the hacker trying to achieve by using these verbs? Also what in the world does "[90m [32m [90m1ms - 240b[0m" mean? The "ms" makes sense, probably milliseconds for the request, rest I am unable to understand. Thank you!

• Open mail-links with gmail in Chrome 9

  it happens quite often, that I click a link over a persons name, just to see that it launches the default mail client of my system. I thought it would be a normal link, but it was a "mailto:"-link. I would like Chrome to start gmail, not my default email client. For Firefox, I had only to paste this in the URL-Bar: javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","GMail") Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Chrome 9. I have found this tutorial for Ubuntu, but I would like a solution in Chome. If it is only in Chrome, I can sync the settings. • unable to start regionservers in HBase

  I have a problem starting regionservers on slave PCs. When I enlist only master PC in conf/regionservers everything works fine but when I add two more slaves to it the hbase does not start. If I delete all hbase folders in the tmp folder from all PCs and then start regionserver (with 3 regionservers enlisted) the hbase gets started but when I try to create a table it again fails (gets stuck). I am using hadoop 0.20.0 which is working fine and hbase 0.92.0. I have 3 PCs in cluster, one master and two slaves. Also tell that is DNS (both forward and backward lookup working) necessary for hbase in my case? Is there any way to replicate hbase table to all region servers? I.e. I want to have a copy of table at each PC and want to access them locally (when I execute map task they should use their local copy of hbase table).

• Get root access for copying files to /usr/share/...?

  To be short, I want to copy a folder to a location /usr/share/screenlets/..... I don't know how to do it. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I tried by logging in as root from terminal giving "su with my password". I even changed my user account type to ADMINISTRATOR by giving the root password when asked, yet, no use. Think all of you know that, even the option PASTE in the context menu's list in the folder "/usr/share/..." is INACTIVE. How can I copy those files?

• Change ip route metric

  I'm constantly switching between eth0 and wlan0 interface on my archlinux because I often change OpenWrt fw images on my second router (which isn't connected anywhere). So I have problem with my routes when I'm connected to my wlan and want to connect with Ethernet to my router. Both routers are on 192.168.1.1/24 and after connecting to my Ethernet profile eth0 route becomes default one (which is ok for the time), because of smaller metric I guess. So I'm interested, how can I change routes metric so my applications can be connected to the internet (through out wlan)? Maybe there is solution not to use Default Gateway on Ethernet profile, however I still want to know how to change metric. Or default route if there are more then one.

• OS X - Automatically Set Execute Permissions for New Files?

  I'm using OS X 10.6.4 and am trying to set a folder to automatically enable execute permissions on new script files copied or created in a directory. I have used Sandbox 2 to set every permission for the folder to enabled with sticky bits and the inherit flag set but I still have to manually set the execute flag using chmod for every new flag. I've done: chmod -R a+rwxs ~/scripts I've done: chmod 7777 ~/scripts And the permissions for the folder show as: drwsrwsrwt+ for the folder. But if I add a new script file it's set to "-rw-r--r--+" (the default) I looked at setting "unmask 000" in the .profile file but the default value for files is 666 with an unmask of 022 so that's not relevant since I would need a default value of 777 for files. I have figure out how to use chmod in an AppleScript triggered by a folder action to automate this but I'm wondering if there is a simple ACL or chmod setting I'm missing. So, is there a way to automatically set execute permission for new files? (Without using a folder action and AppleScript?)
