  • Learning C++ from scratch in Visual Studio?

    I need to get up to speed with C++ quite quickly (I've never used it previously) - is learning through Visual Studio (i.e. Managed C++) going to be any use? Or will I end up learning the extensions and idiosyncracies of C++ in VS, rather then the language itself? If learning in VS is not recommended, what platform / IDE do you guys suggest? Edit: Can anyone elaborate on what VS will hide or manage for me when coding unmanaged C++? I really need to be learning things like pointers, garbage collection and all the nuts and bolts of the low level language.. does VS abstract or hide any of this kind of stuff from you?     does current version of libcurl support firefox 3.0 and above cookies file (cookies.sqlite) ? I'm trying to set the file to allow cookies to be used when retrieving the data from web address. int return_val = curl_easy_setopt(hCurl, CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE, \..\cookies.sqlite); return_val is zero but i don't get to see the expected data.

    If I load the following URL in Firefox and login to Facebook, I'm getting a page displaying "An invalid next or cancel parameter was specified." https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=c8caf78d724d142ee82334131ef5c9ce&redirect_uri=http://www.facebook.com/connect/login_success.html&type=user_agent&display=touch&scope=offline_access,publish_stream But if I change the display parameter to display=page I no longer get this error. Any ideas as to why?

  • .htaccess makes php files downloadable

    I have an .htaccess file with following content: AddHandler x-httpd-php5 .php For some reason, whenever I upload it to the server, Firefox then wants to download PHP files instead of showing them, I think the Apache server has some error. What's wrong? Thanks in advance ^^

    It's about html/css/javascript menu ;) I am looking for unified solution to hide extra tabs of horizontal/tabbed menu when it overflows it's container. The initial idea plagiarized from firefox tabs workflow, i.e. when you have too much tabs it will wrap extra ones into collapsible dropdown button "List all tabs". I am thinking to play with overflow:auto in conjunction with javascript, but is there anything like this already implemented or maybe some better idea? Thanks.

  • Shoes and Gems and how to get them working.

    I have seen this question asked all over the internet and answered in many different ways. None of them seem to be working for me. I am trying to get Gems to work in Shoes (specifically the gem Mechanize). Whenever I use the code: Shoes.setup do gem 'mechanize' end require 'mechanize' It gives me the popup that says it is installing native extensions and sits at that screen for 30 minutes and longer (I've only ever waited as long as 30 minutes). I have seen people say that you should be putting the .gem files in ~/.shoes/+gem/gem (on OS X) but that hasn't worked for me. Neither has putting the source code for the gem there. On another odd note, both the gems RedCloth and Nokogiri come with Shoes...but using the above code for them gets me No such file to load errors for both of them. Anyone have any expertise in this area and can help me out?

    I want to set the Expires header for all image/* and text/css. I'm doing this in a Filter. However: before calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is not yet "realized" after calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is set, but so is content-length, which forbids adding new headers (at least in Tomcat implementation) I can use the extensions of the requested resource, but since some of the css files are generated by richfaces by taking them from inside jar-files, the name of the file isn't x.css, but is /xx/yy/zz.xcss/DATB/.... So, is there a way to get the Content-type before the response is committed.

Unknown property 'border-top-left-radius' Line 274. Unknown property 'border-top-right-radius' Line 275. unknown property 'zoom' Lines 300,306,336,345,385,408. Q: Should I just ignore these errors?

    Hi, How would I reset my asp:DropDownList element (which has a runat="server") to index 0 every time the page is "reloaded" in firefox (F5 is pressed).     Hello, I'm using the WebDevHelper toolbar for Internet Explorer to troubleshoot HTTP requests/roundtrips on my SSL site and noticed that IE re-downloads my CSS :hover images every time they are triggered. This causes a huge amount of roundtrips. How can I prevent this from happening? Edit: All static content is served with cache-control: public, so images, javascript etc. are cached in Firefox and Chrome. This problem is IE specific.

  • Visual Studio 2010 + ReSharper Not Working

    I've installed ReSharper 5 on two installations of Visual Studio 2010 Professional. In both cases, ReSharper claims it has installed successfully - but Visual Studio doesn't recognize the extension. It doesn't show up in the Extensions Manager, doesn't appear in Help - About - Installed products, and can't be found anywhere else in the environment. I've tried install / uninstall of both Visual Studio and ReSharper, computer restarts, etc. Both machines have Visual Studio 2008 and ReSharper 5 works fine in these IDEs, and both machines are running Windows 7. I've found other people online with this issue, but no solutions. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Visual Studio: How to override the default "Build Action" for certain extension types per project or solution?

    I'm serving my asp.net mvc views from many assemblies and copying views to the main application on post-build event. This works, however, I realized, that when I change something in view and just hit F5, changes are not included. What I have to do to see changes is to: save, build<- explicitly clicking, and then hit F5. However, it's pretty annoying solution. I discovered that setting Build action to "Embedded Resource" on view solves the problem as well, however other devs may not remember that they have to do this after adding every view to the solution. Is there a way to override the default build action for certain file extensions, such as: *.aspx, *.ascx in project or (better) in solution ? What I've found is an ability to add this setting globally, per machine, but I do not want to do that (link: http://blog.andreloker.de/post/2010/07/02/Visual-Studio-default-build-action-for-non-default-file-types.aspx) Any ideas ?
