  • Doing a "Diff" on an Associative Array in javascript / jQuery?

    - by Matrym
If I have two associative arrays, what would be the most efficient way of doing a diff against their values? For example, given: array1 = { foreground: 'red', shape: 'circle', background: 'yellow' }; array2 = { foreground: 'red', shape: 'square', angle: '90', background: 'yellow' }; How would I check one against the other, such that the items missing or additional are the resulting array. In this case, if I wanted to compare array1 within array2, it would return: array3 = {shape: 'circle'} Whilst if I compared array2 within array1, it would return: array3 = {shape: 'square', angle: '90'} Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Can you declare <canvas> methods within a template in javascript?

    - by Binarytales
    Not entirely sure I posed the question in the best way but here goes... I have been playing around with the HTML5 canvas API and have got as far as drawing a shape in the canvas and getting it to move around with the arrow keys. I then tried to move my various variables and functions to a template so I could spawn multiple shapes (that would eventually be controlled by different keys). This is what I have: function player(x, y, z, colour, speed){ this.lx = x; this.ly = y; this.speed = 10; this.playerSize = z; this.colour = colour; } playerOne = new player(100, 100, 10, "#F0F"); function persona(z, colour){ zone.fillStyle = colour; offset = 0 - (z / 2); zone.fillRect(offset, offset, z, z); } function move(x, y){ playerOne.lx = playerOne.lx + x; playerOne.ly = playerOne.ly + y; zone.clearRect(0, 0, 500, 500); zone.save(); zone.translate(playerOne.lx, playerOne.ly); persona(playerOne.playerSize, playerOne.colour); zone.restore(); } window.onkeydown = function() { var direction = this.event.keyCode; var s = playerOne.speed; // Arrow Keys if( direction == 38 && playerOne.ly >= 10){ // Up move(0,-s); } if( direction == 40 && playerOne.ly <= 490){ // Down move(0,s); } if( direction == 37 && playerOne.lx >= 10){ // Left move(-s,0); } if( direction == 39 && playerOne.lx <= 490){ // Right move(s,0); } }; window.onload = function() { zone = document.getElementById('canvas').getContext('2d'); zone.save(); zone.translate(playerOne.lx, playerOne.ly); persona(playerOne.playerSize, playerOne.colour); zone.restore(); }; So what I tried to do was move the persona function into the player template like this: function player(x, y, z, colour, speed){ this.lx = x; this.ly = y; this.speed = 10; function persona(){ zone.fillStyle = colour; var offset = 0 - (z / 2); zone.fillRect(offset, offset, z, z); } } And then where before it said persona(playerOne.playerSize, playerOne.colour); it now just says playerOne.persona(); But this is just totally flaking out and not working and I can't figure out why. I'm probably going about it all the wrong way and I think the problem is that I'm trying to manipulate the canvas.context (call zone in my script) from within a object/template. Perhaps its nothing to do with that at all and I an just not declaring my persona functions properly in the context of the template. Documentation for the canvas API is very thin on the ground and any hint in the right direction will be very much appreciated.

  • Rotate a feature Image in Open Layers - Javascript variable from JSON.

    - by Ozaki
I have an open layers map. It adds and removes my "imageFeature" every 10secs or so. I have a JSON feed that gives me the rotation that I need, I have a request to get that rotation and set it as a variable of rotationv. Everything works but the fact when the image is recreated it does not update the rotation. My code is as follows: JSON request: var rotationv = (function () { rotationv = null; $.ajax({ 'async': false, 'global': true, 'url': urldefault, 'dataType': "json", 'success': function (data) { rotationv = data.rotation; } }); return rotationv })(); Creating image feature: imageFeature = new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector( new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(mylon, mylat), { rotation: rotationv } ); The image is set in the styling elsewhere. Why does this not rotate my image? Debugging with firebug I now notice that "rotationv" is updating as per it should be. But when the point is destroyed then added again it does not apply the new rotation... Add: I realised that the "image" is applied as per the layer. So I need to figure out how to re apply the stylemap to the layer so it will trigger the "update" on the page. //redefine layer 2 so it can be updated// //test.js is just a 0.0 testref// var layer2 = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("Layer 2", "test.js", { format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: styleMap }); But even if I add the above into my function still no luck. Included map.addLayers([layer2]); into the function as well.

  • Curious redirection problem using location.href

    - by Jose M Balaguer
I face a curious problem with redirection... Look at this small example: it works only if I add the alert() call after the redirection sentence! If I remove the alert() it does not work anymore!!! Any idea why (I'm using Firefox 3)? Thanks. <html> <script type="text/javascript"> function GotoPage() { location.href = "http://www.yahoo.com"; // Without this alert redirection does not work!!! alert("Hello!"); } </script> <body> <form> <button onclick="javascript:GotoPage()">Go</button> </form> </body> </html>

  • File input javascript event, is there an event fire when someone click okay on the dialog box?

    - by Mickey Cheong
Hi, When someone click on Browse for the input file below: <input type="file" name="blah" /> A dialog box will appear. The user will then select a file and click 'Ok'. The dialog box will close. Is there an event fire because of that? I tried onfocus and onblur, it didnt work out. The only way is, i start a timer to check the value content when it is onfocus. Not that elegant. Any solution? Cheers, Mickey

  • Any ideas on how to implement a 'touchMoveOver' event in Javascript?

    - by gargantaun
I'm faffing around with SVG, specifically for web content aimed at iPad users. I've created a little dial type thingy that I'm calling a "cheese board" that I'd like to use as an interface element. http://appliedworks.co.uk/files/times/SVGTests/raphael.html Clicking on a piece of cheese (to keep the analogy going) will do "something". That bit's easy. However, I'd like the user to be able to drag their finger around the 'cheese board', firing a new event (touchesMovedOver?) every time they their finger moves over a new piece of cheese. But I can't figure out how to do it since there's no 'mouseOver' equivalent for touch interfaces. If the whole thing was made of squares, I could have created some sort of 'rectContainsPoint' method to be called for every 'touchesMoved', but that approach wouldn't work here. If anyone has any idea about how something like this could be achieved, I'd love to hear it.

  • Why doesn't the highlighted part of the JavaScript work?

    - by Dor Cohen
Why isn't the 'confirm password and password the same' part working? Meaning, the part that uses the 'getElementById' to adress the password and confirmpassword. • jQuery/Javascript: Click event on a checkbox and the 'checked' attribute.

    - by b. e. hollenbeck
The code: $('input.media-checkbox').live('click', function(e){ e.preventDefault(); var that = $(this); if (that.attr('checked') == 'checked'){ var m = that.attr('media'); var mid = 'verify_' + m; that.parents('div.state-container').find('ul.' + mid).remove(); that.attr('checked', false); } else { var url = AJAX_URL; $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: url, dataType: 'html', success: function(data){ that.parents('li').siblings('li.verification').children('div.media-verification').append(data).fadeIn(500); that.attr('checked', 'checked'); } }); } return false; }); I am ajaxing in a form, then firing the click event on relevant checkboxes to ajax in another partial if necessary. The form is inserted nicely, and the click events are fired, checking the boxes that need to be checked and firing the second ajax, since the checked attribute of the checkbox was initially false. What's curdling my cheese is if I UNCHECK one of those boxes. Despite e.preventDefault(), the checked attribute is set to false BEFORE the test, so the if statement always executes the else statement. I've also tried this with $.is(':checked'), so I'm completely baffled. It appears that unchecked - checked state reads the original state, but checked - unchecked doesn't. Any help?

  • how to perform click to the output of ActionLink by jQuery or javascript?

    - by user324003
<%= Ajax.ActionLink("Edit", "Update", "Home", new { id = item.mID }, new AjaxOptions { OnBegin = "function(){ $('#edit" + item.mID + "').show();}", HttpMethod = "get", UpdateTargetId = "edit" + item.mID })%> The above code generates the html source code. when user click the link, it works well. But there're so many links there, I must click them one by one. Is there any method to click once, all of them excutes? I tried the method: $("a.buttonID").click() and modified the above code: <%= Ajax.ActionLink("Edit", "Update", "Home", new { id = item.mID }, new AjaxOptions { OnBegin = "function(){ $('#edit" + item.mID + "').show();}", HttpMethod = "get", UpdateTargetId = "edit" + item.mID } new{@class="buttonID"})%> But it doesn't work. Because it only excutes the onclick event of a tag, the href attribute doesn't work.

  • JavaScript / jQuery: is it possible to change font-size to fill a set width?

    - by Marius
Hello there :) I am writing an application, and in it, I would like to have some h1 elements with variable font size. I use the full width (1000px) of a div as a limiter, and a script that automatically sets the font of the h1-element so that it fits the width of the div without line break. This is quite easy to do with php GD, but I thought I wanted to do this client side. Thank you for your time. Kind regards Marius

  • Why does Safari/Opera not work with this javascript code?

    - by robinjfisher
Hi, I am working on a calendar that will show bookings. The height of containing the booking is calculated dynamically in proportion to the length of the booking. The following code works perfectly well in Firefox but not in Safari or Opera: function calculateBookingHeight(from, to) { var today = new Date; var end = new Date.UTC(today.getUTCFullYear(),today.getUTCMonth(),today.getUTCDate(),23); var start = new Date.UTC(today.getUTCFullYear(),today.getUTCMonth(),today.getUTCDate(),6); var from = new Date(from); var to = new Date(to); if (from > start && to < end) { var difference = (to - from) / 120000; } else if (from > start && to > end) { var difference = (end - from) / 120000; } else { var difference = 510 } return difference; } In summary, each hour on the calendar is a height of 30px. The second if statement deals with the end of the booking being the following day. If I replace the entire code block with return 510, Safari behaves as expected and sets the height of each booking to 510px so I assume it must be something in this function that is causing the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Robin

  • javascript pausing consistently. How do I find what is causing it to pause?

    - by pedalpete
I've got a fairly ajax heavy site and I'm trying to tune the performance. I have a function that runs between 20 & 200 times, depending on the user. I'm outputting the time the function takes to execute via console.time in firefox. The function takes about 4-6ms to complete. The strange thing is that on my larger test with 200 or runs through that function, it runs through the first 31, then seems to pause for almost a second before completing the last 170 or so. However, that 'pause' doesn't show up in the console.time logs, and I'm not running any other functions, and the object that gets passed to the function looks the same as all other objects that get passed in. The function is called like this for (var s in thisGroup.events){ showEvent(thisGroup.events[s]) } so, I don't see how or why it would suddenly pause near the beginning. but only pause once and then continue through. The pause ALWAYS happens on the 31st time through the function. I've taken a close look at the 'thisGroup.events[s]' that it is being run through, and it looks like this for #31 "eventId":"5106", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"70","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" The event immediately after the pause, #32 looks like this "eventId":"5111", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"71","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" another event that runs through no problem looks like this "eventId":"5113", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"72","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"4:30 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"6.5", "durationTime":"6:30", "note":"", "desc":"event" From the console outputs, it doesn't appear as there is anything hanging or taking up time in the function itself, as the console.time for each event including #31,32 is 4ms. Another strange thing here is that the total time running the for loop across the entire object is coming out as 1014ms which is right for 200 events at 4-6ms each. Any suggestions on how to find this 'pause'? I find it very interesting that it is consistently happening between #31 & #32 only!

Looking in the jQuery core I found the folloiwng code convention: nth: function(elem, i, match){ return match[3] - 0 === i; }, And I was really curious about the snippet match[3] - 0 Hunting around for '-0' on google isn't too productive, and a search for 'minus zero' brings back a reference to a Bob Dylan song. So, can anyone tell me. Is this some sort of performance trick, or is there a reason for doing this rather than a parseInt or parseFloat? Thanks
