• How to achieve jQuery scrolling/overlay effect (video in description)

  I have two columns. The left column contains text of dynamic lengths. The right column is of fixed height and will contain a set of images selected at random per page load. I am trying to create an effect where while the user scrolls, the Image 2 scrolls above Image 1. When it reaches the top, the Image 1 begins to scroll up until it disappears, then Image 3 comes in and repeats the process. As this is rather confusing, I made a short video describing the desired effect. Video - MP4 I have begun trying to get it working in this jsbin but am at a loss for when the user scrolls back down and also when more images are required. I am thinking my current path is not the right direction. I'm thinking that employing something like jQuery waypoints is more the direction I should be pursuing?

• How can I make a table move in JavaScript?

  My problem is that I was creating a simple website the other day and I needed the content to move according to the button pressed. I managed to do so in CSS3, but the solution did not work for IE whatsoever. Therefore I would like to ask if there is a simple solution for that in js? I don't know js at all but I heard what I need is much easier in js than in css. • When open-sourcing a live Rails app, is it dangerous to leave the session key secret in source contr

  I've got a Rails app that's been running live for some time, and I'm planning to open source it in the near future. I'm wondering how dangerous it is to leave the session key store secret in source control while the app is live. If it's dangerous, how do people usually handle this problem? I'd guess that it's easiest to just move the string to a text file that's ignored by the SCM, and read it in later. Just for clarity, I'm talking about this: # Your secret key for verifying cookie session data integrity. # If you change this key, all old sessions will become invalid! # Make sure the secret is at least 30 characters and all random, # no regular words or you'll be exposed to dictionary attacks. • What causes session/forms authentication timeouts in MVC3

  Can somebody please let me know what are the reasons for your authentication to die suddenly, even when you are working on an application without any idle time? Both with and without AJAX calls. And what are the different reasons for getting a 302 redirect from an MVC3 application to the Logon page. Been struggling with an issue with timeouts that happen at random. Sometimes within a few minutes of login to the application and sometimes you can go for hours (with/without idle time) without being thrown out. Thank You

• document.getElementByIdContains?

  Hello Is there, by any chance, a way to solve this problem: I have elements that have IDs such as "x_y_z". The unique part is "x_y", thus there is no two items that have the same combination of x and y.. However, using getElementById won't work because when I do it I only have the "x" and "y" part and not the Z (think of Z as a random incremental counter). Is there a way around this? So that when I have the "x" and "y" I say something like getElementByIdContains("x_y")? Thanks!

• Reading line by line from a file in C

  What I am trying to do is print out the contents of a file line by line. I run the program in terminal by doing: ./test testText.txt. When I do this, random characters are printed out but not what is in the file. The text file is located in the same folder as the makefile. • How do database servers decide which order to return rows without any "order by" statements?

  Kind of a whimsical question, always something I've wondered about and I figure knowing why it does what it does might deepen my understanding a bit. Let's say I do "SELECT TOP 10 * FROM TableName". In short timeframes, the same 10 rows come back, so it doesn't seem random. They weren't the first or last created. In my massive sample size of...one table, it isn't returning the min or max auto-incrementing primary key value. I also figure the problem gets more complex when taking joins into account. My database of choice is MSSQL, but I figure this might be an interesting question regardless of the platform.

The first button (smaller one) works properly, but the second button (bigger one) isn't adding the order to the shopping cart. • Would Lisp be extremely difficult for a new(ish) programmer to learn?

  I've got a little experience with Python (enough to where I can do if/else/elif and some random number generation), but I've always had a weird fascination with the Lisp languages. I downloaded some scheme source code to look at the syntax but it was pretty much gibberish to me. For a programmer with only a little programming experience like myself, given some good books, websites, and some time, would it be particularly difficult to learn either Common Lisp or Scheme? Which of the two would be easier? How do they compare with Python and C, as far as ease of learning? Thanks

• Why does SQL Server consider N'????' and N'???' to be equal?

  We are testing our application for Unicode compatibility and have been selecting random characters outside the Latin character set for testing. On both Latin and Japanese-collated systems the following equality is true (U+3422): N'????' = N'???' but the following is not (U+30C1): N'????' = N'???' This was discovered when a test case using the first example (using U+3422) violated a unique index. Do we need to be more selective about the characters we use for testing? Obviously we don't know the semantic meaning of the above comparisons. Would this behavior be obvious to a native speaker?

  I have MySQL MASTER/SLAVE replication working on two test boxes (Centos 6.4 / MySQL 5.5.32) over LAN. Securing the connection over ssh causes connection problems from the SLAVE machine: (Sample of show slave status \G Output) Last_IO_Errno: 2003 Last_IO_Error: error connecting to master '[email protected]:3305' - retry-time: 60 I have granted the replication user the relevant privileges on the master server with both 127.0.0.1 and the network IP. I have forwarded the port from slave to master over SSH ssh -f 192.168.0.128 -L 3305:192.168.0.128:3306 -N I can connect to master MySQL from slave with mysql -urep -ppassword -h127.0.0.1 -P3305 The master server setup would seem fine, as it works without a tunnel, and the tunnel seems fine, as I can connect to MySQL between the two. Change Master Statement: CHANGE MASTER TO MASTER_HOST='127.0.0.1', MASTER_PORT=3305, MASTER_USER='rep', MASTER_PASSWORD='password'; Note: I know there are reasons to use SSL, instead of SSH, but I have reasons why SSH is a better choice for my setup.

  I'm trying to send an IPP print job using the ipptool. Using the sample .test files, I can send commands to the printer, but I am unable to successfully use the print-job.test file. Here's an example using ipptool. c:\...>ipptool -v ipp://name.local.:631/ipp/printer print-job.test ipptool: Filename "$filename" on line 21 cannot be read. ipptool: Filename mapped to "". It looks like it's failing resolving the variable $filename within the test file so I attempted to hardcode this value in the test file. In this case I get no error, but still no print. Does anybody have any experience using ipptool to test ipp printing?

• Rotate haproxy logs

  I tried few things but still not able to rotate haproxy logs efficiently. I need to rotate logs when log files crosses 500 MB size. Considering haproxy is serving large no. of static tcp connections, I can not restart haproxy process though a reload is doable. Daily haproxy log file size normally crosses 3 GB on my machine. After applying the latest round of updates (including Root Certificates for April 2012 KB931125 (See:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933430/)), EAP authentication is failing due to being malformed. Sample error (Security/Event ID 6273), truncated for brevity: Authentication Details: Proxy Policy Name: Use Windows authentication for all users Network Policy Name: Wireless Access Authentication Provider: Windows Authentication Server: nps-host.corp.contoso.com Authentication Type: PEAP EAP Type: - Account Session Identifier: - Reason Code: 266 Reason: The message received was unexpected or badly formatted. The NPS policy (Wireless Access) is configured accordingly (for Constraints/Authentication methods) EAP Types: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) - with a valid certificate from ADCS Microsoft: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) Less secure authentication methods: Microsoft Encrypted Authentication version 2 (MS-CHAP-v2) User can change password after it has expired Microsoft Encrypted Authentication (MS-CHAP) User can change password after it has expired We've tested a different RADIUS server without the aforementioned patch, and removed EAP as an authentication type and experienced success. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

• Linux: setting up an elite/high-anonimity Web proxy on a dedicated server

  I'm renting a dedicated server which I'd like to use to "surf the Web": basically I want to always surf the Web from the same static IP (the one of my dedicated server). I can do it by running Xvnc/FreeNX on the dedicated server, but this is kinda slow and clumsy (I tried it). What are the steps needed to install an "elite/high-anonimity" Web proxy on a dedicated (Debian) Linux server knowing that my two requirements are: I'm the only person that needs access to the proxy all I want is that my broadband (dynamic) IP is completely hidden (I want to always surf from my dedicated server's IP). Note that using the static IP people can find my domains and my real name and I'm perfectly fine with that (actually it is what I want). What I don't want is people knowing from which dynamic IP (broadband) I'm connecting. What are the steps needed to do that? (basically I don't care about "anonimity", what I want is to appear to surf from a static IP and I think I need what is called an "elite" Web proxy to do that, but I'm not sure) Technical infos and sample configuration most welcome :)

• Tomcat 6 HTTPS connector: keep alive timeout not being respected

  I'm using Tomcat 6.0.24 on Ubuntu (JDK 1.6) with an app that does Comet-style requests on an HTTPS connector (directly against Tomcat, not using APR). I'd like to set the keep-alive to 5 minutes so I don't have to refresh my long-polling connections. Here is my config: <Connector port="8443" protocol="HTTP/1.1" SSLEnabled="true" maxThreads="1000" keepAliveTimeout="330000" scheme="https" secure="true" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS" /> Unfortunately it seems that the server closes the connection after 65 seconds. The pcap from a sample session goes something like this: T=0 Client sends SYN to server, handshake etc. T=65 Server sends FIN to client T=307 Client sends FIN to server (I'm guessing the 5 minute timeout on the client is due to the HTTP lib not detecting the socket close on the server end, but in any case -- the server shouldn't be closing the connection that early) (edit: this works as expected when using the standard HTTP connector)

• Outlook 2003: How to print embedded images in e-mails?

  My boss has been trying to print his e-mails with embedded images, but the images don't print. All we get is a placeholder space where the image should be. Ideally, we'd like to have an option to control whether images get printed or not. I Googled this already and the one solution I found, trying to print the e-mail from the separate window using the print icon, did not work. Edit: also tried the solution here without success. I had him forward a sample e-mail to me, and I printed it fine in my Outlook (same version).
