• Verify windows log-in via smart card

  Hi I need to verify in my WPF application if the user log in to his computer via password or via smart-card. Both login options are available in my company clients but my application need to open only in the smart-card login. All the clients are windows 7 OS. I look at some sites: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff404285(v=ws.10).aspx http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/240655/Using-a-Smart-Card-Certificate-with-NET-Security-i and I'm thinking I need to get the enhanced key usage (EKU) attribute field. If the EKU is empty = then the user was loged via password and not via smartcard. I only need this simple check, I do not care for creating/validations on certificates atc.

• Rails CSS not Loading using Heroku

• AppDomain.UnhandeledException event not fired

  In a WPF application, the app simply crashes, without the above event being fired. (I'm also registered to DispatcherUnhandeledException, which doesn't fire as well.) I conclude that it doesn't fire since the handler is defined to place a log entry. When looking at the log, there's no corresponding entry. It happens in a production environment; I'm unable to point at a particular scenario. I've read few descriptions on scenarios where this might happen, but I still don't have a clear grasp on this. Can anyone share his experience / knowledge on this? How can I find the root of the crash and solve it? Many thanks.

  Hello! Please, don't judge strictly if this question was discussed previously or indirectly answered in huge nearby prism and mvvm blogs. In WPF implementation of RelayCommand or DelegateCommand classes there is a such eventhandler /// <summary> /// Occurs whenever the state of the application changes such that the result of a call to <see cref="CanExecute"/> may return a different value. /// </summary> public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged { add { CommandManager.RequerySuggested += value; } remove { CommandManager.RequerySuggested -= value; } } but in SL subset of namespaces there are no CommandManager class. And this is where I'm stuck. I haven't yet found an workaround for this in MVVM adoptation for SL (PRISM is so complex for me yet). Different simple HelloWorldMVVM apps don't deal with at all.   I'm currently setting up an application config for a WPF application written in .Net 4.0. The connection string in the app.config is encrypted like so: <connectionStrings configProtectionProvider="DataProtectionConfigurationProvider"> <EncryptedData> <CipherData> <CipherValue>CypherValue</CipherValue> </CipherData> </EncryptedData> </connectionStrings> To use the EncryptedData element I need to include the XMLNS "http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0". Attempting to include it produces an error as the schema cannot be found. Is there a way to include the schema or perhaps a different element I could use instead of EncryptedData?

I have a wcf service that has data objects with validation rules defined with attributes, using the validation application block . On my client side (WPF), I have a service reference. When I update the service reference the generated classes do not have the validation rules attributes in them. How can I get the rules from the service? Am I missing some step, or is it not possible?

• Our GUI Situation

  These days, any decent Windows desktop application must perform well and look good under the following conditions: 1) XP and Vista and Windows 7. 2) 32 bit and 64 bit. 3) With and without Themes. 4) With and without Aero. 5) At 96 and 120 and perhaps custom DPIs. 6) One or more monitors (screens). 7) Each OS has it's own preferred Font. Oh My! What is a lowly little Windows desktop application developer to do :(. I'm hoping to get a thread started with suggestions on how to deal with this Gui dilemma. First off, I'm on Delphi 7. a) Does Delphi 2010 bring anything new to the table to help with this situation? b) Should we pick an aftermarket component suite and rely on them to solve all these problems? c) Should we go with an aftermarket skinning engine? d) Perhaps a more html type gui is the way to go. Can we make a relatively complex gui app with html that doesn't require using a browser? (prefer to keep it form based) e) Should we just knuckle down and code through each one of these scenarios and quit bitching about it? f) And finally, how in the world are we supposed to test all these conditions? thanks, shawnH

• Script Errors in Silverlight WebBrowser Control

  Hi, I am showing a HTML page with a Flash video player on it in a Silverlight app using the WebBrowser control. The site itself is displayed perfectly and everything works just fine. But when I want to close the player component, I somehow need to completely dispose the current HTML page with the flash player. I tried navigating to about:blank, or even to other pages like google.com before the player component is hidden. But the flash video keeps on playing and the WebBrowser shows several Script Errors, which must be clicked in order to really leave the flash page. Is there any way to instantly "clear" the WebBrowser control or to surpress the Script Errors so that it leaves the html/flash page? In WPF there seem to be some methods for that, but I couldnt find any on the Silverlight WebBrowser control. Any hints are appreciated, Whiskas

• ASP.NET - fast Segmented downoad of file through webservice

  Hi, Im doing this project where i need to download files through a webservice (images, videos). The download MUST go through an existing webservice. The existing webservice was made when there were no need to upload and download files but the project has changed and now we need to do It through a webservice. Right now I have implemented the download as a method that returns a byte[], I open a streamreader and resds the entire file into a byte[] and returns it to my method. This is working file on small files <~1Mb, above it takes too long time. I want to show some progress (e.g. when the user downlaods a 20Mb video) which i cannot do right now. And i want to make it download much faster (is a strategy to use multithreading and several threads that downloads a part of the file?). It is within a WPF application i need to do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?

• High memory usage for dummies

  I've just restarted my firefox web browser again because it started stuttering and slowing down. This happens every other day due to (my understanding) of excessive memory usage. I've noticed it takes 40M when it starts and then, by the time I notice slow down, it goes to 1G and my machine has nothing more to offer unless I close other applications. I'm trying to understand the technical reasons behind why its such a difficult problem to sol ve. Mozilla have a page about high memory usage: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/High+memory+usage But I'm looking for a slightly more in depth and satisfying explanation. Not super technical but enough to give the issue more respect and please the crowd here. Some questions I'm already pondering (they could be silly so take it easy): When I close all tabs, why doesn't the memory usage go all the way down? Why is there no limits on extensions/themes/plugins memory usage? Why does the memory usage increase if it's left open for long periods of time? Why are memory leaks so difficult to find and fix? App and language agnostic answers also much appreciated.

• .NET 3.5 SP1 prerequisite, MS giving the clients 4.0

  I have been using an MSI to install a WPF application using the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I have set up .NET 3.5 as a prerequisite in the MSI, and what has been happening for ages is that when the user does not have .NET 3.5 SP1, the MSI first has them download and install that before resuming the installation of my application. Since yesterday when MS released .NET 4.0, when users don't have .net 3.5 SP1, the MSI is directing them to install 4.0 instead. What happens though, is that after they finish installing 4.0, the MSI still detects that they don't have 3.5, and directs them to the 4.0 install site again. So the user has 4.0, but the MSI doesn't ever get to installing my application. What do I have to change in my application? This seems like an error with how MS is handling the prerequisites either on their server or in the MSI in VS 2008.

  Hi, I am working on a project, in which I am particularly using the CSS with themes. I am facing a compatibility problem between IE7 and IE8. I have placed a ASP.Net menu on page in <div>. Applying CSS style on the div as follows. .TopMenuPanel {           background-color:#3783a9;           position:relative;           left:597px;           top:0px;           width:573px;           height:24px;           text-align:left center; } When I am seeing the page on IE7, the menu showing in one position whereas in IE8 it is showing in another position. Specific talking, in IE7, on the position of Left:597px Top:0px it is showing in before the half page, and in IE8 it is showing after the half page. Anybody else have any experience of such a problem, then please give me the expert solution on this problem.

  First I need to state that I am not the developer so I will state the issue in business terms but please respond with a technical solution as I will be passing on your posts to the developer. We are building a web based application in SilverLight and WPF that consists of communication between a customer service rep and a customer. The application will inlcude a webcam that will provide the customer with the ability to see the customer service rep and the rep will also be able to see an image of themselves but will not be able to see the customer. Similar functionality to a live web chat with video component. There could potentially be bandwidth issues and we do not want the customer to have to download anything. Any recommendations on how to do this?

• Linq to SQL EntitySet Records causing duplicate insertion

  In a WPF application i'm using Linq to SQL in a multi tier application. (This is an archailogy photo filing application), so every excavation has its corresponding Pictures, thus a one-to-many relationship. This relationship is correctly created by SQLMetal (which i'm using to create the POCOs). So here is the situation i 'm having trouble with: Saving changes (either of new or altered objects) is done through UnitOfWork() pattern this way: using (IUnitOfWork unitOfWork = UnitOfWork.Begin()) { //if this is a new record if (SelectedExcavation.excavation.ExcavationId == 0) { IsNewRecord = true; excavService.Add(SelectedExcavation.excavation); } //send the actual changes to the dbms unitOfWork.Commit(); } Everything works fine! BUTTTT!!! Whenever a record gets updated which has (already at least one ) corresponding Picture Record: 1) a new Excavation Record is inserted 2) the current Excavation Record gets updated 3) the previous Picture Record gets its Id changed to the newly created ExcavationId What is going on under the hood? Most of the examples I have read see links below and books such as Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM by Gary Hall use a silverlight application with a datagrid.   Some people consider WordPress a blogging platform, some think of it as a CMS, some refer to WordPress as a development framework. Whichever it is, the question still remains. Is WordPress MVC compliant? I've read the forums and somebody asked about MVC about three years ago. There were some positive answers, and some negative ones. While nobody knows exactly what MVC is and everybody thinks of it in their own way, there's still a general concept that's present in all the discussions. I have little experience with MVC frameworks and there doesn't seem to be anything about the framework itself. Most of the MVC is done by the programmer, am I right? Now, going back to WordPress, could we consider the core rewrite engine (WP_Rewrite) the controller? Queries & plugin logic as the model? And themes as the view? Or am I getting it all wrong? • Should I use the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern in Silverlight projects?

• How do I convert a windows forms app from C# to VB ?

  I've been converting all kinds of other things, classes, interfaces, ASP.NET MVC apps, and WPF applications, but I am stumped as to how to convert a windows forms application, as the whole structure seems to be different. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem? I see essentially that you have two files, Form1.cs and Form1.Designer.cs. Literally translating them from C# to VB doesn't work because of some intricacies or other of how Visual Basic works. I think you /might/ be able to convert Form1.cs in this way, as it's just a constructor plus event handlers, but the designer contains the references to the controls etc. and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.

• Problem in VS2010 IDE in analog monitor in a dual-monitor setup

  I am using VS2010 Premium with a dual-window setup. One of the monitors is on a digital (DVI) cable and other one is on an analog (VGA) cable. I have noticed that when I put VS2010 in the analog monitor, there are garbled texts and refresh problems while coding and/or scrolling. This does not seem to be the case when I put VS2010 in the digital monitor. Note that, I am not expanding VS IDE to use 2 screens, just making it 1 full screen, either analog or digital. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I also work with VS2008 and have not seen this problem in either screen. VS IDE has started using WPF from the 2010 release, not sure if this has something to do with it.

  I've got a div in my app that is displayed each time my theme options panel is "saved". • Top navigation link in Magento that I can't get rid of

  I'm working on a new theme for an existing Magento installation, and I've got a rogue link. The last guy apparently decided to hard code a link to the AW Blog extension he was using in the top navigation. See here: derm2go.com - link is "articles". I'm getting rid of AW Blog in favor of an integrated wordpress install, but when I uninstall AW Blog, the site breaks (everything after the nav dissapears) and I get this error in my logs: 2011-11-19T08:56:19+00:00 ERR (3): Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'Mage/Blog/Helper/Data.php' for inclusion (include_path='/chroot/home/dermtwog/derm2go.com/html/app/code/local:/chroot/home/dermtwog/derm2go.com/html/app/code/community:/chroot/home/dermtwog/derm2go.com/html/app/code/core:/chroot/home/dermtwog/derm2go.com/html/lib:.:/usr/share/pear') in /chroot/home/dermtwog/derm2go.com/html/lib/Varien/Autoload.php on line 93 I've searched everywhere, I can think of that might effect the nav menu, and I don't know where the link is coming from - it's not in the CMS/static blocks, its not in any of the default template files on the server (I deleted and reinstalled all of them) and it's showing up even when I change templates, so it's probably not in on the sub themes. Does anyone out there know of other files it could be hiding in? I'm assuming the last guy did a quick and dirty hack somehow - and maybe messed with core files? Would really rather not have to do a full reinstall.
