  • Extended Events demos on Microsoft Virtual Academy

    I had an opportunity recently to contribute a presentation to the Microsoft Virtual Academy as part of the Mission Critical Confidence using SQL Server 2012 course offering. The MVA offers you a myriad of free training opportunities, so I encourage anyone who is interested in expanding your knowledge to take advantage of this offering.   • Virtual box doesnt have files machine and help tab

    this is the second time im asking this question because someone had to close my question for a reason which i still dont understand. this is the original question Why is my files,machine,help tab missing in ubuntu 11.10? Most importantly ,i cannot access the machine menu that should be there but isnt. im using ubuntu 11.10 with oracle 4.1.10 heres a picture of what ubuntu should look like,or maybe i am wrong, http://i.stack.imgur.com/JgM5S.png The reason why im asking,is because id like to run a usb key inside my virtual box,but since i cannot access machine,i cant access the devices manager either. Just for your information,ive already installed the guest additions.

  • Java me : Can we retrieve bluetooth address of connected device from an open slave connection ?

    Here is a typical sequence of events that occur : Host device opens a service ( Host device accepts and opens all incoming connections) A remote device connects to host device. Now, we have a slave connection open at host device. At host device, I want to know the bluetooth address of remote device. I can always pass it as data from remote to host device, but can I extract it from connection object somehow without any data transfer? Thanks in advance...

  • Updated to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't show well, do I need to update my SDK?

    My Android app has a couple input-lines made to receive numbers, it's a calc app. I just updated my Nexus One to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't respond like the way they should. When I touch the input-line, the Android keyboard used to pop-up just enough to kind of 'lift' the input-line above the keyboard - into the users view. Then when I scrolled down to the next input-line, that input-line used to 'lift-up' into view also. Now, after I updated my N1 to Android 2.2 - the input-lines are not lifting into view all the way. Also, when I scroll down to the next input-line and type in numbers - they don't appear, but when I scroll left...there they are. It's hard to describe my problem but things have definitely changed in the way my apps input-lines respond since the 2.2 update I did. If I try to update my SDk stuff in Eclipse and then recompile my app, might that fix it? Whenever there's an Android update - developers don't always have to recompile all of their apps do they?

  • Device drivers and Windows

    Hi, I am trying to complete the picture of how the PC and the OS interacts together. And I am at point, where I am little out of guess when it comes to device drivers. Please, don´t write things like its too complicated, or you don´t need to know when using high programming laguage and winapi functions. I want to know, it´s for study purposes. So, the very basic structure of how OS and PC (by PC I mean of course HW) is how I see it is that all other than direct CPU commands, which can CPU do on itself (arithmetic operation, its registers access and memory access) must pass thru OS. Mainly becouse from ring level 3 you cannot use in and out intructions which are used for acesing other HW. I know that there is MMIO,but it must be set by port comunication first. It was not like this all the time. Even I am bit young to remember MSDOS, I know you could access HW directly, becouse there ws no limitation, no ring mode. So you could to write string to diplay use wheather DOS function, or directly acess video card memory and write it by yourself. But as OS developed, there is no longer this possibility. But it is fine, since OS now handles all the HW comunication, and frankly it more convinient and much more safe (I would say the only option) in multitasking environment. So nowdays you instead of using int instructions to use BIOS mapped function or DOS function you call dll which internally than handles everything you don´t need to know about. I understand this. I also undrstand that device drivers is the piece of code that runs in ring level 0, so it can do all the HW interactions. But what I don´t understand is connection between OS and device driver. Let´s take a example - I want to make a sound card make a sound. So I call windows API to acess sound card, but what happens than? Does windows call device drivers to do so? But if it does call device driver, does it mean, that all device drivers which can be called by winAPI function, must have routines named in some specific way? I mean, when I have new sound card, must its drivers have functions named same as the old one? So Windows can actually call the same function from its perspective? But if Windows have predefined sets of functions requored by device drivers, that it cannot use new drivers that doesent existed before last version of OS came out. Please, help me understand this mess. I am really getting mad. Thanks.

  • How do I get the Virtual Machines folder on Win7?

    I'm writing a tool called XP-More, which should help manage Windows 7 Virtual Machines. The first thing the tool has to do when launched is find the VM folder. However, turns out that folder is not listed as a Windows Special Folder. I use a workaround, but it's unreliable. Ideally, Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.VMFolder) or so would have done the job, but VMFolder is a fiction of my imagination. Is there any real way to get that folder?

    Hi, When I generate Javadoc for my android project in eclipse, there are lots of warnings like cannot find symbol symbol : class TextView and warning - Tag @see: reference not found: android.app.Dialog I also tried -link http://developer.android.com/reference/ -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ in Extra javadoc options tab in Configure Javadoc Arguments dialog of eclipse-Export Javadoc. But only -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/ is working i.e for String class link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html?is-external=true is generated. but for android.app.Dialog , no link is generated. Please help !!

  • android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE not available on all devices?

    I've got a receiver set up in my android application to catch android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE intents. On my Evo, it works fine - when a notification is cleared from the notification bar, I catch that event and can run some code. I tried running this on a Samsung Moment though, and it is never caught. So now I'm trying to figure out why, and I can't seem to find anything on Google about this intent action - and I set this code up a few months ago, so I don't remember where I even found this action, it doesn't seem to be in the API. The evo is running 2.2, and the moment is running 2.1-update1, so I'm guessing that it's undocumented, and only available in 2.2. Is there any other way to catch an event that a notification has been cleared? Note that I'm not trying to cancel a notification that I put up, or trying to cancel another app's notification, just catch an event when a notification has been cleared.   • Ubuntu Server - Virtual Box?

    So I got VirtualBox just for Ubuntu Server, I'm currently Running Ubuntu 12.04 as my main OS. But when I got everything set up in Ubuntu Server 12.04, including my ports forwarded and a test Minecraft server up... I realized that nobody could join my public IP I sent out, not even me! I can connect to the ipv4 address. It acts like I didn't forward my ports. But I forwarded 25565 to Input and Output and they're both TCP and UDP. Is this just a virtual box issue or am I doing something wrong? * Using Eth0 wired connection

  • downgrading a ubuntu 10.04 LTS virtual server

    I am downgrading an existing ubuntu 10.04 LTS Virtual Server to one with less memory and a smaller drive ( from 80GB to 40GB ). My hoster ( hetzner.de ) does not give me the possibility of doing an inplace downgrade, so I have to create a new server. What is the best way to make an image of the first system and "apply it" to the new one ? I know there other answer but in my situation I am not sure I would be able to use Clonezilla or other GUI tools, because the installation is minimal with no GUI. Thanks in advance Michele

    Hi, I have a really strange problem. I need to build custom sqlite3 database engine under Android OS, but I also want to use database provider implementation. Unfortunately when examining sources of Android 1.6 I noticed that it's not so easy. Many classes including android.database.; packages use original provider, also many other parts of framework use android.database.sqlite.; packages directly, wich ofcourse make this abstraction a bit confusing and unnesesary. But going to my question. If there is any way that I could extend database interfaces to use custom implmentation of sqlite (or any other database)?

  • Is there a way to develop C#/.NET on Android devices?

    Hi, I want to run C# programs on my HTC Magic, I can find the mono app on the Android market but I have no clue on how to run C# using. The code is just for fun, I don't want official support and such. After coding Visual Basic on windows mobile, I really want to code C# on Android, whether directly using some sort of editor if exists, or compiling it on a PC then installing it on Android. Or should I go some other route to beef up my knowledge of OOP concepts before launching into Android?     The company I work for produces allot of video and we want to target as many devices as possible, but the question came up of what does the Android do? I personally own an Android based phone running 2.1, but I can't seem to get the HTML 5 tag to work.   • Did anyone created the Java Code Formatter Profile for Eclipse IDE that conforms to the Android Code

    Android Code Style Guide defines "Android Code Style Rules". To conform to these rules one have to change quite a number of settings of the Java Code Formatter (Window-Preferences-Java-Formatter) default profile (in Eclipse IDE). Did anyone managed to configure the formatter to follow the "Android Code Style Rules" already? PS: I've tried to do this myself but I've found that there are too many formatter options available, and most of them are not mentioned in the Code Style Guide :-(
