• Detect language of text

  Is there any C# library which can detect the language of a particular piece of text? i.e. for an input text "This is a sentence", it should detect the language as "English". Or for "Esto es una sentencia" it should detect the language as "Spanish". I understand that language detection from text is not a deterministic problem. But both Google Translate and Bing Translator have an "Auto detect" option, which best-guesses the input language. Is there something similar available publicly, preferably in C#?

• Move Image or Div Up As Window Resizes?

  Hi, I have an image in my html with a class of "stretch". Currently, with css, this image re-sizes as the window re-sizes to be 100% of the screen width. I would also like it to move upwards as the window is being re-sized. I'm assuming this can be done with jQuery but I am not quite sure. Basically the "top" css value just needs to change as the screen width does. Here is the css that is currently re-sizing it: .stretch { width: 100%; height: auto; min-height: 420px; position: absolute; top: -200px; } Thanks, Wade

• Changing a Container while using Visitor

  Hi everyone, I implemented the Visitor pattern in C++ using a STL-like iterator for storing the Visitor's current position in the container. Now I would like to change the container while I iterate over it, and I'm especially interested in deleting items from the container, even the one I'm currently visiting. Now obviously this will invalidate the Visitors internal iterator, because it was pointing to exactly this item. Currently, I store a list of all iterators in the container and update them, as soon as anything is added to or removed from the list. So in a way this is similar to the Observer pattern applied to the iterator (as Observer) and the list (as Observable). Alternatively I considered having the visitor() methods return some hint to the Visitor about what happend to the current item and how to proceed iterating, but that doesn't sound like such a good idea either, because the visit() implementation shouldn't really care about finding the next item. So, my question is: What's the best way to keep a visitor working, even when items are added to the container or removed from it. Regards, Florian

• .NET WebService Custom Attribute

  I would like to add a custom attribute to a asmx web service to determine if the request is valid based on the client IP address. This is a similar idea to the AuthorizeAttribute in ASP.NET MVC. Is there anywhere (e.g. a HTTP module) I can put the code to look at the attribute on the webservice and decide whether to allow the request or not? In my web.config the handler for asmx is the ScriptHandlerFactory from the System.Web.Extensions dll. I have already implemented the functionality with a HTTP module and a config file with a list of allowed URLs, but I would prefer to get rid of the config file and just add an attribute to the webservice class. • GUI for Build Process

  Hi All, I've just implemented build and deploy process which consists of java files, ant script and cmd files. In the process, a release manager will have to check out source, hit the build.cmd button and then carry a zip file over to a server. I am wondering if it is worthwhile to make a GUI for it? So that the release manager does not need to check out source manually for example? How do I start? I have quite limited knowledge of javax, but I very much like to learn. Thanks, Sarah

• jQuery UI Draggable-Droppable overflow:visible

  Sadly, I am unable to provide any JSFiddle for this issue, as I cant seem to reproduce it outside my project. I have a container where there are some boxes, that can be arranged using drag and drop, by utilizing jQuery UI. The problem is, that the container is overflow:auto; but it needs to be overflow:visible;, but if I do that, jQuery UI malfunctions. When a box drag is initiated, it will immediatly jump up aproximately 400-500px. This is how the draggable is created: $(".draggable").draggable({ revert: 'invalid', // when not dropped, the item will revert back to its initial position containment: '#editContainer', // stick to demo-frame if present helper: 'original', cursor: 'move' }); Is this a bug with jQuery UI, or can this be fixed on my end? • Defining a SPI in Clojure

  I'm looking for an idiomatic way(s) to define an interface in Clojure that can be implemented by an external "service provider". My application would locate and instantiate the service provider module at runtime and delegate certain responsibilities to it. Let's say, for example, that I'm implementing a RPC mechanism and I want to allow a custom middleware to be injected at configuration time. This middleware could pre-process the message, discard messages, wrap the message handler with logging, etc. I know several ways to do this if I fall back to Java reflection, but feel that implementing it in Clojure would help my understanding. (Note, I'm using SPI in a general sense here, not specifically referring to the way it's defined in the JAR file specification) Thanks

  Trying to tidy up scope and avoid possible multiple calls to RegisterWindowMessage. Currently have a class used once with the following member [DllImport("user32.dll", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] static extern int RegisterWindowMessage(string lpString); private int m_message = RegisterWindowMessage("MY_MSG"); As we only have one instance this seems ok, but think it would be more tidy to use. With my basic C# understanding this should call RegisterWindowMessage and assign the result to int and not allow it to change. private const int message = RegisterWindowMessage("MY_MSG"); however attempting to do so leads to a error CS0133: The expression being assigned to 'someclass.messageEvent' must be constant so now I'm confused, does this mean the function was being assigned and called each time m_message was used previously, is there something else missing?

  For performance tests I need a way to measure the time needed for a form to load its definition from the DFM. All existing forms inherit a custom form class. To capture the current time, this base class needs overriden methods as "extension points": start of the deserialization process after the deserialization (can be implemented by overriding the Loaded procedure) the moment just before the execution of the OnFormCreate event So the log for TMyForm.Create(nil) could look like: - 00.000 instance created - 00.010 before deserialization - 01.823 after deserialization - 02.340 before OnFormCreate Which TObject (or TComponent) methods are best suited? Maybe there are other extension points in the form creation process, please feel free to make suggestions. Background: for some of our app forms which have a very basic structure (with some PageControls and QuantumGrids) I realized that it is not database access and other stuff in OnFormShow but the construction which took most of the time (around 2 seconds) which makes me wonder where this time is spent. As a reference object I will also build a mock form which has a similar structure but no code or datamodule connections and measure its creation time.

• Eager loading vs. many queries with PHP, SQLite

  I have an application that has an n+1 query problem, but when I implemented a way to load the data eagerly, I found absolutely no performance gain. I do use an identity map, so objects are only created once. Here's a benchmark of ~3000 objects. first query + first object creation: 0.00636100769043 sec. memory usage: 190008 bytes iterate through all objects (queries + objects creation): 1.98003697395 sec. memory usage: 7717116 bytes And here's one when I use eager loading. query: 0.0881109237671 sec. memory usage: 6948004 bytes object creation: 1.91053009033 sec. memory usage: 12650368 bytes iterate through all objects: 1.96605396271 sec. memory usage: 12686836 bytes So my questions are Is SQLite just magically lightning fast when it comes to small queries? (I'm used to working with MySQL.) Does this just seem wrong to anyone? Shouldn't eager loading have given much better performance?

For work I'm dealing with a large database (160 million + rows a year, 10 years of data) and have a quandary; A large percentage of the data we upload is null data and I'd like to stop it from being uploaded. The data in question is spatial in nature, so I have one table like so: idLocations (Auto-increment int, PK) X (float) Y (foat) Alwaysignore (Bool) Which is used as a reference in a second table like so: idLocations (Int, PK, "FK") idDates (Int, PK, "FK") DATA1 (float) DATA2 (float) ... DATA7 (float) So, Ideally I'd like to find a method where I can do something like: INSERT INTO tblData(idLocations, idDates, DATA1, ..., DATA7) VALUES (...), ..., (...) WHERE VALUES(idLocations) NOT LIKE (SELECT FROM tblLocation WHERE alwaysignore=TRUE ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE DATA1=VALUES(DATA1) So, for my large batch of input data (250 values in a block), ignore the inserts where the idLocations matches an idLocations values flagged with alwaysignore. • Firefox Extension needs to get cookie from PHP redirected external page.

  I am writing a firefox extension that interacts with a JSON server interface. I receive a url to the server which then redirects to the client site that provides the cookie. I need to be able to set this cookie in the users browser without physically loading it in the browser. Is this possible through an AJAX call? I tried using a hidden iframe, however firefox does not seem to like a php redirect in the iframe. My current solution is to load the site in a second tab that never gains focus and then auto close it when the cookie is set. This is very messy and would prefer something more streamlines. Any thoughts?

• How to detect if a page is an RSS or ATOM feed

  Hello, I'm currently building a new online Feed Reader in PHP. One of the features i'm working on is feed auto-discovery. If a user enters a website URL, the script will detect that its not a feed and look for the real feed URL by parsing the HTML for the proper tag. The problem is, the way im currently detecting if the URL is a feed or a website only works part of the time, and I know it can't be the best solution. Right now im taking the CURL response and running it through simplexml_load_string, if it can't parse it I treat it as a website. Here is the code. $xml = @simplexml_load_string( $site_found['content'] ); if( !$xml ) // this is a website, not a feed { // handle website } else { // parse feed } Obviously, this isn't ideal. Also, when it runs into an HTML website that it can parse, it thinks its a feed. Any suggestions on a good way of detecting the difference between a feed or non-feed in PHP? • Facebook Connect and Hash Password Encryption

  I'm trying to integrate a Zen Cart site with Facebook Connect. So far, I've been able to get Zen Cart to recognize that the user has a facebook account and is logged in, but that's it. True authentication into Zen Cart eludes me because I can't figure out where a password could be stored and how to get it to Zen Cart to be compared with the password hash. I know Facebook Connect has been implemented with webapps that have such passwords like wordpress, so I know there must be a way to do it. Is the password stored in a cookie? In the Facebook application itself? Any help would be appreciated, even if it's just a place to start searching.

I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true? Sure, I can call this directly (RESTfully) with, say, WebClient but I thought the strong typing features in ADO.NET Data Services would "hide" this from me auto-magically.   After some searching i figured out how dragdrop is implemented for a picturebox. But there is one thing - the (inherited of course) allowdrop property isn't accessible from code or property window of picturebox class. So to make it work i added following line to my form-load: ((Control)pictureBox1).AllowDrop = true; Why do i have to do that? In msdn it says: "This API supports the .NET Framework infrastructure and is not intended to be used directly from your code." Any explanation appreciated and sorry for my grammar ;)

• How can I stop my "headerSticky" and "content" divs from overlapping?

  I'm making a page that has three main components: a "headerSticky" header div, "sidenav" left navigation div, and "content" div. The side navigation is fixed and does not move; but the content div should be scrollable on its own. However, the top of the content div is always overlapped by the header div. Here is the CSS for the header: #headerSticky{ float:top; position:fixed; padding:6px; width: 100%;} and the content div: #content { padding-top: 100px; float:right; overflow: auto; height: 90%; width: 840px; padding: 0 20px 20px;} Any help would be appreciated. • Cleanup for control inside a FlowDocument

  I have a custom control that I use inside a FlowDocument. The control uses a System.Drawing.ImageAnimator to display transparent, animated GIF images. Why is this such a pain in the butt in WPF anyway? :P In my original implementation, this was causing memory leaks when a paragraph containing the control was being deleted from the document, because the ImageAnimator kept a reference to the control for event handling. I've now implemented a WeakEventManager pattern which seems to indeed fix the leak itself, but I would like to stop "OnFrameChanged" events from being fired if a particular animated GIF is not currently in the document, instead of relying on the garbage collector to eventually collect the control objects and my event manager to notice that there no longer are valid listeners to the event. Basically, I would like to take a more active role in this and have the control react to being removed from the FlowDocument. Is there some way to do this? I've been unable to find it. OnVisualParentChanged doesn't get fired, because the direct parent (a Paragraph) is unchanged.

• Is there a way to put relationships/contraints into CSS?

  In every design tool or art principle I've heard of, relationships are a central theme. By relationships I mean the thing you can do in Adobe Illustrator to specify that the height of one shape is equal to half the height of another. You cannot express this information in CSS. CSS hard-codes all values. Using a language like LESS that allows variables and arithmetic you can get closer to relationships but it's still a CSS variant. This inability in my mind is the biggest problem with CSS. CSS is supposed to be a language that describes the visual component of a Web page but it ignores relationships and contraints, ideas that are at the core of art. How possible is it to imagine a new Web design language that can express relationships and contraints that can be implemented in JavaScript using the current CSS properties?

Tag may be assigned to 1 or many products. Means relation between products and tags is many-to-many in terms of relational databases. Value of "rating" is updated "very" often. I need to be run the following queries Select objects by keys Select tags for product ordered by rating Select products by tag order by rating Update rating by product_key and tag_key The most important is to make these queries really fast on large amounts of data, considering that rating is constantly updated.
