• How to handle customers with multiple addresses in CakePHP

  I'm putting together a system to track customer orders. Each order will have three addresses; a Main contact address, a billing address and a shipping address. I do not want to have columns in my orders table for the three addresses, I'd like to reference them from a separate table and have some way to enumerate the entry so I can determine if the addressing is main, shipping or billing. Does it make sense to create a column in the address table for AddressType and enumerate that or create another table - AddressTypes - that defines the address enumeration and link to that table? I have found other questions that touch on this topic and that is where I've taken my model. The problem I'm having is taking that into the cakePHP convention. I've been struggling to internalize the direction OneToMany relationships are formed - the way the documentation states feels backwards to me. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

  To build a HTML table I use direct DOM instead of a predefined Widget to set thead and tbody. But when I insert a cell with the insertCell() method GWT inserts an td element but should insert an th element. So TableElement table = Document.get().createTableElement(); TableSectionElement thead = table.createTHead(); TableRowElement headRow = thead.insertRow(-1); headRow.insertCell(-1).setInnerText( "header1" ); gives table/thead/tr/td but should give table/thead/tr/th Any idea how to solve this problem? Use the "old-school" DOM.createXXX()-Methods?

• MS SQL Server 2000 tables

  We currently have an MS SQL Server 2000 database with one table containing data for multiple users. The data is keyed by memberid which is an integer field. The table has a clustered index on memberid. The table is now about 200 million rows. Indexing and maintenance are becoming issues. We are debating splitting the table into one table per user model. This would imply that we would end up with a very large number of tables potentially upto the 2,147,483,647, considering just positive values. My questions: 1) Does anyone have any experience with a MS SQL Server (2000/2005) installation with millions of tables? 2) What are the implications of this architecture with regards to maintenance and access using Query Analyzer, Enterprise Manager etc. 3) What are the implications to having such a large number of indexes in a database instance. • MySQL Removing Some Foreign keys

  I have a table whose primary key is used in several other tables and has several foreign keys to other tables. CREATE TABLE location ( locationID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignment ( assignmentID INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, locationID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY locationIDX (locationID) REFERENCES location (locationID) ... ) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE TABLE assignmentStuff ( ... assignmentID INT NOT NULL, FOREIGN KEY assignmentIDX (assignmentID) REFERENCES assignment (assignmentID) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; The problem is that when I'm trying to drop one of the foreign key columns (ie locationIDX) it gives me an "ERROR 1025 (HY000): Error on rename" error. How can I drop the column in the assignment table above without getting this error?

• Storing users in a database

  Im wondering whats the best way of storing different types of users in my database. I am writing an application that has 4 main user types (admin, school, teacher, student). At the moment I have a table for each of these but i'm not sure thats the best way of storing user information. For instance... Allowing students to PM other student is simple (store sender and receiver student_id) but enabling teachers to PM students requires another table (sender teacher_id, sender student_id). Should all users be stored in one users table with a user_type field? If so, the teacher / student specific information will still have to be stored in another table. users user_id, password_hash, user_type students user_id, student_specific_stuff... teachers user_id, teacher_specific_stuff... How do I stop a user who has a user_type = student from being accidentally being entered into the teachers table (as both have a user_id) Just want to make sure I get the database correct before i go any further.   I have two tables: a Files table, which includes the file type, and a File Properties table, which references the file table via a foreign key. Sample Files table: | id | name | type | --------------------- | 1 | file1 | zip | | 2 | file2 | zip | | 3 | file3 | zip | | 4 | file4 | jpg | And the Properties table: | file_id | property | ----------------------- | 1 | x | | 2 | x | I want to make a query, which shows the count of each file type, and how many files of that type have a property. So in the example, the result would be | type | filecount | prop count | ---------------------------------- | zip | 3 | 2 | | jpg | 1 | 0 | I could accomplish this by select f.type, (select count(id) from files where type = f.type), count(fp.id) from files as f, file_properties as fp where f.id = fp.file_id group by f.type; But this seems very suboptimal and is very slow. Any better way to do this?

  If I run this query : SELECT DISTINCT U.REFERENCED_NAME, U.REFERENCED_TYPE FROM USER_DEPENDENCIES U where U.name IN('P_CREATE_T') It will give me : U.REFERENCED_NAME | U.REFERENCED_TYPE random_name_table | table If I drop this table random_name_table : drop table random_name_table and I run the dependecie query It will give me this: U.REFERENCED_NAME | U.REFERENCED_TYPE BIN$6WfJh8MWWGngQ3ATqMDOpQ==$0 | table I know the result is related to recycle bin, But what I am asking is there a way that shows the table even if its droped ? I mean shouldnt the depency query read from the procedure and not from the database ? If not is there a query that reads from the procedure and not from database ? Edit ok I will make it clear : my question USER_DEPENDENCIES read from the procedure or the database ? My second question does the recycle bin always shows ? I mean is there times where the result of the recylebin disapear ?

  I'm trying to finalize my design of the data model for my project, and am having difficulty figuring out which way to go with it. I have a table of users, and an undetermined number of attributes that apply to that user. The attributes are in almost every case optional, so null values are allowed. Each of these attributes are one to one for the user. Should I put them on the same table, and keep adding columns when attributes are added (making the user table quite wide), or should I put each attribute on a separate table with a foreign key to the user table. I have decided against using the EAV model. Thanks!

  I have 2 tables that I import to EF model. First table has a property [section] that acts as foreign key to the second table. When I map this property in model to the table and try to compile I get this error: Problem in Mapping Fragments starting at lines 158, 174: Non-Primary-Key column(s) [Section] are being mapped in both fragments to different conceptual side properties - data inconsistency is possible because the corresponding conceptual side properties can be independently modified. If i remove this property from the model it passes, but when I query the data I don't have the section field. I know that I can get it by using the navigation field and reading this property from the second table, but to make it work I must include the other table in my query. var res = from name in Context.Table1.Include("Table2")... Why do I need to include the association just for one field?

• CakePHP: Using two tables for a single model

  I'm just picking up development in CakePHP right now so forgive me if this seems obvious; it did to me when I first read about has, belongsTo, hasMany, etc. The problem is I would like to associate two tables with a single model, and was wondering if there was a way to configure this so that when CakePHP did it's queries it automatically performed a join on the two tables. I don't want to create a separate model for the second table as it is merely a meta information table - the master table will contain the primary information required, the meta table will be populated with secondary information that is not required and therefore may or may not be set for every row of the master table.

  I have read lots of questions about i18n, but I haven't found any about performance. I have a simple backend app listing the contents of an ads table. These ads have a category, that is translated in some languages (it's defined as i18n in the Doctrine schema). So, when I add a "table_method" in my generator.yml to include de Category table, it reduces the number of queries, but there are yet some of them referencing i18n translation tables. So, if I add the category Translation table to the query, it reduces even more the queries BUT it increases the processing time considerably. Why this time penalty? Just because of the translation table? And why isn't the filter using this method to avoid so many translation queries as well? I mean, if I want to filter by category, it is making one query per category to include the translation table. Why??

Lets say i have a db that looks something like the following: Issue Table Id | Details | CreateDate | ClosedDate Issue Notes Table Id | ObjectId | Notes | NoteDate Issue Assignment Table Id | ObjectId | AssignedToId| AssignedDate I'd like allow the linking of an issue to another issue. I thought about adding a column to the Issue table called ParentIssueId and that would allow me the ability to link issues, but i foresee circular references occurring within the issue table if i go through with this implementation. Is there a better way to go about doing this, and if so, how? Thanks

• iphone/ipad with 2 side by side tables

  I want to create a view with 2 tables side by side, where selecting the row on 1 table effects the content of the other and vice versa (not parent child). My problem is how to send the request. I started with a utility app using core data, and added 2 table view controllers. I added these to the main view nib and moved the tables to the view. One table controls a list from Core Data, then on selecting a row I want it to move to the other table which is based on a mutable array. On didselectrow I want to tell the other table to update, however I can only find samples that are parent/child so involves initializing. Does anyone know of a way to do this for an active view? A few weeks ago I came across a tutorial in which the author got three tables in Database: Table A: {ID, Description, IsActive} Table B: {ID, TableA_ID, Description, CreationDate, ModifiedDate} Table A_B: {ID, TableA_ID, TableB_ID} The author of the tutorial said that the third table (Table A_B) is needed to run in CakePHP.   i created a database using the command CREATE TABLE login_table2(user_name VARCHAR(32), first_name VARCHAR(32), last_name VARCHAR(32), password VARCHAR(64)); then i inserted a data using command INSERT INTO login_table2(user_name ,first_name , last_name , password ) VALUES('ramya', 'ramya', 'muthu', 'India'); the data got inserted into the table. then i inserted another set of data using command INSERT INTO login_table2(user_name ,first_name , last_name , password ) VALUES('jeyshree', 'jey', 'shree', 'India'); the data got inserted into the table too. then i gave the command SELECT first_name FROM login_table2; the command displayed all the first_ name in the table. however when i gave the command SELECT password FROM login_table2 WHERE user_name = 'ramya'; it does not fetch anything though the entry exist in the table.mention where i am going wrong.awaiting your reply.

After a period of time, records in this database table in the "Active" catalog are archived/moved to an exact copy of the table in a database Catalog "History". I have the need to retrieve from both the Active and History Catalogs. Is there a better way to model this with Hibernate annotations than making an abstract class that 2 classes extend from.   I am trying to learn how to do stuff in Android, and I'm not sure of the best way to build the interface. I've been working on porting an iPhone app, which uses navigation controllers and table views for looking at the different sections: basically, someone touches a cell in the table, which drills down to another table. when they touch a cell on that table it drills down to a webview that displays the information. I want to do something similar for the android app, but I don't know how, or if there is a better way native to Android. I've figured out how to use the webview to my purposes, but moving forward and backward in the table tree is unclear.

How to modify the stored procedure so that I can use it with LINQ to SQL. Note: I need to have global template table!
