  My first post.  Working with Google Analytics (GA).  What an incredible tool this is for those that are wanting to know about their site traffic.  GA allows the user to drill down to the screen size of any mobile sources that came in contact with his site.  The user is even able to know region demographics of visitors and the types of browsers and languages being used.  This is a great tool to help determine your target audience and what direction of growth one may be needing to take.GA has Real-Time currently in beta but it already allows the user to see some information.  I can already detect that I am viewing my site from Louisville, KY and what page of my site is being accessed.  I highly recommend using GA for the sheer plethora of data available.

  UBUNTU 11.10 on 8GB USB 3.0 pendrive. Drive Partitioned using gparted. 4GB BASE 3GB Home 600MB swap Installation Ok. Restart blinking cursor. Installed another distro on another USB 3.0 stick. It boots OK. --------------- DEBUG -------------------------------------- Boot Other distro and check: I compare boot file with another linux. grub of ubuntu is 1.4mb contend is different. Taken photo with mobile camera but can not add here. Files has note(music) sign on it. Downloaded 11.10 desktop and Installed. Same result. Will download 12.x when ready and try. Ready to try any suggestion.

  We build a webapp that allows users to run the app under their own subdomain. So we run the app under search.domainX.com, search.domainY.com and so on. They each have their own Google Analytics to track individual stats. But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views."   I have graduated from university less than 6 months ago and became a B.Eng in Software Engineering. I have moderate understanding of programming experience from languages like C++, Java and C#. But mostly on simple desktop and mobile applications. I've tried some simple Pong-like games but never finished even the smallest game. I have a couple of nice ideas growing (IMO, at least...) in my mind but don't really know where to begin. 2D is way to go, of course, at the beginning. I just want to hear from more experienced game devs how they started out. Should I make a rough outline of the core idea and mechanics and start working on a prototype of core gameplay? Or should I just practice more by making Pong, Asteroids and that sort of games and get an understanding of those before moving on? Thanks to all!

But I'm worried that there will be legal issues. I'm sorry but I do not know what is the process in doing this. I noticed for example the game Bejeweled Blitz. If I develop something similar, do I have to contact the developer and ask for permission if I develop a game with similar rules but use shapes rather than jewels?   I have several sites that were doing quite well in terms of organic SEO rankings. I have the important sites setup in Google's Webmaster tools. Long story short, the system was down for about two weeks. Now in AdSense and Analytics, I am seeing that the page views are SLOWLY increasing. and I would like to know if there is anything I can do now to try to expedite the process of regaining those positions. Since there were several errors from that server, is it possible that Google will now rank any site from that IP address lower due to those two weeks of errors?   I am writing a SOAP based ASP.NET Web Service having a number of methods to deal with Client objects. e.g: int AddClient(Client c) = returns Client ID when successful List GetClients() Client GetClientInfo(int clientId) In the above methods, the return value/object for each method corresponds to the "all good" scenario i.e. A client Id will be returned if AddClient was successful or a List< of Client objects will be returned by GetClients. But what if an error occurs, how do I convey the error message to the caller? I was thinking of having a Response class: Response { StatusCode, StatusMessage, Details } where Details will hold the actual response but in that case the caller will have to cast the response every time.   So, I've found myself, after several years of coding (I consider myself a coder, rather than a programmer) full of links and loose snippets and coding tips, all dispersed across the web. In such way it is barely usable, even when every bit is important or interesting. I thought of simply storing the links in delicious or something alike, but it's not really the links I want to keep, I just need the succinth info. So I was thinking to use some web app, something like a wiki, maybe much more simple, so I could access it though my mobile if I need it. I could code it, but as I stated it before, I'm more of a code monkey, and I'm sure my solution would be far from decent... Can anyone give me recommendations on this?

  I have been creating a custom live CD of Ubuntu 11.10 using remastersys, everything goes well except that the live session asks for a login. the login is automatically set as "custom" and the password is blank. this is fine, but I would rather it went direct to the desktop in a live session as you would expect from other distro live cds. I have asked on the remastersys forums, the question has gotten a lot of views, but no answer as of yet, I am wondering has anyone here remastered a distro and come across the login problem, and if so, how did you fix it?

• Sharing between new install and Windows 7 boxes not working, either direction. Printers & folders

  I don't seem to be able to share between my Ubuntu (fresh install) and any of my Windows machines. I tried using this guide: How to Share Folders in Ubuntu & Access them from Windows 7. The problems is that I cannot see the Ubuntu machine in my network pane on the Windows machine. Any Ideas of what I should check? Ultimately what I am looking to do is make mobile media server that I can put in the Van, attach a WiFi router, and stream to an iPad, tablet, laptop, etc. Any advice on setting this up would be appreciated.

  One of the problems web apps have against native apps, especially on the mobile front, is the constant need to re-download each web page on request. Ultimately, this leads to slower performance. Why if web apps only download new pages if they're actually needed, not because they're simply requested. For example: perhaps the server can store a web page version in a cookie. Every slight change to the page on the server-side changes the version number. Now instead of the browser requesting a new page each time, why not just check the version number and have the server send the page if they're different? If the page similar, the user can just use a cached page. I'm sure browsers doesn't necessarily have to change to accommodate changes to this, correct?
