  • Which is more flexible in regards to database changes, EF 4 or Linq to SQL

    - by JBeckton
Reading about both Linq to SQL and Entity Framework I have developed the impression that EF is more suitable for apps that get data from multiple data sources. But as I am reading about MVC2 models I see an example where EF is more loosely coupled with your data model. If I have to add or remove some columns from a table then what is involved in updating my model or DAL with each of these implementations?

  • I can't get areas working in VS2010

    - by devlife
I just upgraded from VS2010 RC to RTM. Now my areas aren't working. I have a Profile area with a Home controller and an Action method Index(). If I try: http://localhost:4951/profile I get a 404 error saying that the resource can't be found. If I try http://localhost:4951/profile/home I get the same error. However, if I try http://localhost:4951/profile/home/index then the view is returned. Here is my ProfileAreaRegistration: public class ProfileAreaRegistration : AreaRegistration { public override string AreaName { get { return "Profile"; } } public override void RegisterArea(AreaRegistrationContext context) { context.MapRoute( "Profile_Unlock", "Profile/Unlock/{userID}/{unlockID}", new { controller = "Unlock", action = "Index" }, new { userID = new GuidRouteConstraint(), unlockID = new GuidRouteConstraint() } ); context.MapRoute( "Profile_default", "Profile/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Home", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); } Does anyone know what is going wrong?

  • Does Anyone Know Of A Solid Web Example Using ASP.NET MVC1 or MVC2, NHibernate, Fluent NHibernate &

    - by Sara
I am looking for solid non-console examples of how to use ASP.NET MVC1 or MVC2, NHibernate, Fluent NHibernate & Castle. I looked at Sharp Architecture and its just too much to digest for my newbie mind. I need a clean, clear, concise Step A, Step B, Step C tutorial or a solid example that is a web application and not a console application. I have searched and searched and searched and I have found incomplete examples (examples with just enough information to make me say where does that code go), console applications and no good web application examples. Does anyone know of a COMPLETE web example? If I see another console example, I'm going to scream....

  • TinyMCE loading lang/plugins/theme from incorrect directory

    - by Anonymous
    I am having trouble with TinyMCE. When it is searching for the lang, theme, and plugins, it is supposed to look in the directory where the base script files are located. however, instead of doing that, it is using the current loaded page as the root for searching. I am looking at the "loadScripts" function in the src file, but changing the path doesn't seem to provide any meaningful effect. Here is the unmodified loadScripts function for your review: // Load scripts function loadScripts() { if (s.language) sl.add(tinymce.baseURL + '/langs/' + s.language + '.js'); if (s.theme && s.theme.charAt(0) != '-' && !ThemeManager.urls[s.theme]) ThemeManager.load(s.theme, 'themes/' + s.theme + '/editor_template' + tinymce.suffix + '.js'); each(explode(s.plugins), function(p) { if (p && p.charAt(0) != '-' && !PluginManager.urls[p]) { // Skip safari plugin for other browsers if (!isWebKit && p == 'safari') return; PluginManager.load(p, 'plugins/' + p + '/editor_plugin' + tinymce.suffix + '.js'); } }); // Init when que is loaded sl.loadQueue(function() { if (!t.removed) t.init(); }); }; loadScripts(); }

  • Strange behavior while returning csv file from spring controller

    - by Fanooos
I working in a spring application which have an action method that returns a CSV file. This action works fine but in some cases it throws a predefined exception (MyAppException). I have another method that is annotated @ExceptionHandler(MyAppException.class) In the exception handler method I return another csv file but with different contents. The code that returns the csv file is almost the same in the two methods. List<String[]> list= new ArrayList<String[]>(); list.add(new String[]{ integrationRequestErrorLog.getErrorMessage(), Long.toString(integrationRequestErrorLog.getId()), Integer.toString(integrationRequestErrorLog.getErrorCode()) }); CSVWriter writer = new CSVWriter(response.getWriter(), ','); writer.writeAll(list); writer.close(); the difference between the two method is the list of contents. In the first method the file is returned normally while in the exception handler method I have a strange behavior. The exception handler method works fine with Opera browser while it gives me a 404 with FireFox. Opera browser give me 404 also but it download the file while firefox does not? Really I do not understand what is the difference here.

  • Why does this ActionFilterAttribute not import data to the ViewModel?

    - by Tomas Lycken
I have the following attribute public class ImportStatusAttribute : ActionFilterAttribute { public override void OnActionExecuted(ActionExecutedContext filterContext) { var model = (IHasStatus)filterContext.Controller.ViewData.Model; model.Status = (StatusMessageViewModel)filterContext.Controller.TempData["status"]; filterContext.Controller.ViewData.Model = model; } } which I test with the following test method (the first of several I'll write when this one passes...) [TestMethod] public void OnActionExecuted_ImportsStatusFromTempDataToModel() { // Arrange Expect(new { Status = new StatusMessageViewModel() { Subject = "The test", Predicate = "has been tested" }, Key = "status" }); var filterContext = new Mock<ActionExecutedContext>(); var model = new Mock<IHasStatus>(); var tempData = new TempDataDictionary(); var viewData = new ViewDataDictionary(model.Object); var controller = new FakeController() { ViewData = viewData, TempData = tempData }; tempData.Add(expected.Key, expected.Status); filterContext.Setup(c => c.Controller).Returns(controller); var attribute = new ImportStatusAttribute(); // Act attribute.OnActionExecuted(filterContext.Object); // Assert Assert.IsNotNull(model.Object.Status, "The status was not exported"); Assert.AreEqual(model.Object.Status.ToString(), ((StatusMessageViewModel)expected.Status).ToString(), "The status was not the expected"); } (Expect() is a method that saves some expectations in the expected object...) When I run the test, it fails on the first assertion, and I can't get my head around why. Debugging, I can see that model is populated correctly, and that (StatusMessageViewModel)filterContext.Controller.TempData["status"] has the correct data. But after model.Status = (StatusMessageViewModel)filterContext.Controller.TempData["status"]; model.Status is still null in my watch window. Why can't I do this?

  • jQuery preventing RedirectToAction from working?

    - by DaveDev
    I'm trying to redirect the user if they login successfully but the code I have on my page seems to be preventing the redirection from working. If I remove the jQuery below the redirection works. Can somebody tell me tell me if there's something I'm doing wrong? Thanks I have the following Action: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Login(User user) { var myErrors = new Dictionary<string, string>(); try { if (ModelState.IsValid) { if (userRepository.ValidUser(user)) { return RedirectToAction("Index", "Group", new {page = (int?)null}); } else { return Json("Username or password seems to be incorrect"); } } else { foreach (KeyValuePair<string, ModelState> keyValuePair in ViewData.ModelState) { if (keyValuePair.Value.Errors.Count > 0) { List<string> errors = new List<string>(); myErrors.Add(keyValuePair.Key, keyValuePair.Value.Errors[0].ErrorMessage); } } return Json(myErrors); } } catch (Exception) { return Json("Invalid"); } } and the following code on my page: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $("#SaveSuccess").hide(); $("#btnLogin").click(function() { $("form").submit(function(event) { var formData = $(this).serialize(); $.post($(this).attr("action"), formData, function(res) { ShowErrors(res); if (res == true) { $("#SaveSuccess").text("Saved"); } else { $("#divError").html(res); } $("#SaveSuccess").fadeIn(100); }, "json"); return false; }); }); }); </script>

  • RequireHttpsAttribute and Encrypted Request Data

    - by goatshepard
I have a controller action that is accepting sensitive data. public ActionResult TakeSensitiveData(SensitiveData data){ data.SaveSomewhere(); } To ensure the data is secure I want to be certain requests are made using HTTPS (SSLv3, TLS 1). One of the approaches I've considered using was the RequireHttpsAttribute on my action: [RequireHttps] public ActionResult TakeSensitiveData(SensitiveData data){ data.SaveSomewhere(); } However, upon testing this I fiddler revealed that an HTTP request made to the action is 302 redirected to HTTPS. My question is this: If I've made a request that is 302 redirected to HTTPS haven't I already sent the sensitive data over HTTP before the redirect?

  • Zend Framework - Deny access to folders other than public folder

    - by Vincent
All, I have the following Zend application structure: helloworld - application - configs - controllers - models - layouts - include - library - public - .htaccess - index.php - design - .htaccess The .htaccess in the root folder has the following contents: ##################################################### # CONFIGURE media caching # Header unset ETag FileETag None Header unset Last-Modified Header set Expires "Fri, 21 Dec 2012 00:00:00 GMT" Header set Cache-Control "max-age=7200, must-revalidate" SetOutputFilter DEFLATE # ##################################################### ErrorDocument 404 /custom404.php RedirectMatch permanent ^/$ /public/ The .htaccess in the public folder has the following: Options -MultiViews ErrorDocument 404 /custom404.php RewriteEngine on # The leading %{DOCUMENT_ROOT} is necessary when used in VirtualHost context RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR] RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR] RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L] RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L] My vhost configuration is as under: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "C:\\xampp\\htdocs\\xampp\\helloworld\\" ServerName helloworld ServerAlias helloworld <Directory "C:\\xampp\\htdocs\\xampp\\helloworld\\"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride all Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 </Directory> </VirtualHost> Currently, if the user visits, http://localhost, my .htaccess files above make sure, the request is routed to http://localhost/public automatically. If the user visits any other folder apart from public folder from the address bar, he gets a directory listing of that folder. How can I make sure to deny the user access to every other folder except the public folder? I want the user to be redirected to the public folder if he visits any other folder. However, if the underlying code requests something from other folders, (ex: ) it should still work.. Thanks

  • Getting code-first Entity Framework to build tables on SQL Azure

    - by NER1808
I am new the code-first Entity Framework. I have tried a few things now, but can't get EF to construct any tables in the my SQL Azure database. Can anyone advise of some steps and settings I should check. The membership provider has no problems create it's tables. I have added the PersistSecurityInfo=True in the connection string. The connection string is using the main user account for the server. When I implement the tables in the database using sql everything works fine. I have the following in the WebRole.cs //Initialize the database Database.SetInitializer<ReykerSCPContext>(new DbInitializer()); My DbInitializer (which does not get run before I get a "Invalid object name 'dbo.ClientAccountIFAs'." when I try to access the table for the first time. Sometime after startup. public class DbInitializer:DropCreateDatabaseIfModelChanges<ReykerSCPContext> { protected override void Seed(ReykerSCPContext context) { using (context) { //Add Doc Types context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 1, Description = "Statement" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 2, Description = "Contract note" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 3, Description = "Notification" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 4, Description = "Invoice" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 5, Description = "Document" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 6, Description = "Newsletter" }); context.DocTypes.Add(new DocType() { DocTypeId = 7, Description = "Terms and Conditions" }); //Add ReykerAccounttypes context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 1, Description = "ISA" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 2, Description = "Trading" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 3, Description = "SIPP" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 4, Description = "CTF" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 5, Description = "JISA" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 6, Description = "Direct" }); context.ReykerAccountTypes.Add(new ReykerAccountType() { ReykerAccountTypeID = 7, Description = "ISA & Direct" }); //Save the changes context.SaveChanges(); } and my DBContext class looks like public class ReykerSCPContext : DbContext { //set the connection explicitly public ReykerSCPContext():base("ReykerSCPContext"){} //define tables public DbSet<ClientAccountIFA> ClientAccountIFAs { get; set; } public DbSet<Document> Documents { get; set; } public DbSet<DocType> DocTypes { get; set; } public DbSet<ReykerAccountType> ReykerAccountTypes { get; set; } protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder) { //Runs when creating the model. Can use to define special relationships, such as many-to-many. } The code used to access the is public List<ClientAccountIFA> GetAllClientAccountIFAs() { using (DataContext) { var caiCollection = from c in DataContext.ClientAccountIFAs select c; return caiCollection.ToList(); } } and it errors on the last line. • LINQ to SQL for tables across databases. Or View?

    - by BritishDeveloper
I have a Message table and a User table. Both are in separate databases. There is a userID in the Message table that is used to join to the User table to find things like userName. How can I create this in LINQ to SQL? I can't seem to do a cross database join. Should I create a View in the database and use that instead? Will that work? What will happen to CRUD against it? E.g. if I delete a message - surely it won't delete the user? I'd imagine it would throw an error. What to do? I can't move the tables into the same database!

  • How to define RequestMapping prioritization

    - by James Skidmore
I have a situation where I need the following RequestMapping: @RequestMapping(value={"/{section}"}) ...method implementation here... @RequestMapping(value={"/support"}) ...method implementation here... There is an obvious conflict. My hope was that Spring would resolve this automatically and map /support to the second method, and everything else to the first, but it instead maps /support to the first method. How can I tell Spring to allow an explicit RequestMapping to override a RequestMapping with a PathVariable in the same place? (Edit - this is simplified, I know that having those two RequestMapping alone wouldn't make much sense)

  • Include models in Cakephp without going through index.php

    - by Nicklas Ansman
Hey! I'm using CakePHP to build a site which has a crawler that mines data from different sites. The problem is that I would like to be able to call the crawler from command line (since it can take hours for it to finnish) and I would like to the use models in CakePHP when saving the data. Is there a file I could just include that includes the rest for me? If I just include the index.php it dispatches the call which I don't want. Regards Nicklas

  • Convert long number as string in the serialization

    - by Bruno
I have a custom made class that use a long as ID. However, when I call my action using ajax, my ID is truncated and it loses the last 2 numbers because javascript loses precision when dealing with large numbers. My solution would be to give a string to my javascript, but the ID have to stay as a long on the server side. Is there a way to serialize the property as a string? I'm looking for some kind of attribute. Controller public class CustomersController : ApiController { public IEnumerable<CustomerEntity> Get() { yield return new CustomerEntity() { ID = 1306270928525862486, Name = "Test" }; } } Model public class CustomerEntity { public long ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } JSON Result [{"Name":"Test","ID":1306270928525862400}]
