• Android Bluetooth syncing

  I am connecting to a bluetooth enabled camera, and I am able to connect using the methods found in the BluetoothChat example. I need to send commands to the camera. The issue is that I also need to get a response BACK from the camera after I send the command in the first place. So basically I need to write a command and receive a response. However, the thing is that the commands sometimes don't generate a response. Even the documentation on the camera says that you "have to send the sync command as many as 25 times on power up before you will get a response." So I cannot just write a command and wait for a response, as the "read" function blocks the thread. If I have the read function in another thread, like the bluetooth chat example, there seems to be sync issues, i.e., if I issue a write command, how can I know that it is reading if that is happening in another thread? I did set a global variable to check for, but this seems "iffy" at best. So basically I need to write to the bluetooth and then attempt to read from it. However, I need to let that read timeout and if I haven't received a response, I need to write again until I get a response (or until it's tried a set number of times). I don't need the read function to be going all the time in the background. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your time.

  I want to run some commands using the system() command, I do this way: execute_command_error("trash-put '/home/$filename'"); Where execute_command_error will report if there was an error with whatever system command it ran. I know I could just unlink the file using Perl commands, but I want to delete stuff using trash-put as it's a type of recycling program. My problem is that $filename will sometimes have apostrophes, quotes, and other weird characters in it that mess up the system command or Perl itself.

• A beginner question on passthru() function in PHP

  Hi all, I've used the following code to do an XSLT translation in PHP and save the result SVG file into a sub folder: $command = $java . $saxon . $target2 . ' ' . $xsl2.' '.$param; ob_start(); passthru($command, $result); $content_grabbed=ob_get_contents(); ob_end_clean(); $info = pathinfo($_FILES['file']['name']); $file_name= basename($_FILES['file']['name'],'.'.$info['extension']); $myFile = "images/convert/".$file_name."_".$_POST["mydropdown"].".svg"; $fh = fopen($myFile, 'w') or die("can't open file"); fwrite($fh, $content_grabbed); fclose($fh); It does a very simple SVG to SVG transformation, and created the resulting SVG file. the $command is just a simple java -jar saxon.jar input.xml stylesheet java command. The current situation is ,the file gets created perfectly, however, the error gets shown in browser, probably because I inserted the "ob_start" before passthru() command. I am thinking of making use of an argument that comes with the saxon.jar, that is "-o output_file_name". Because the final purpose is not to display the resulting SVG to the browser, but instead creating an SVG file ,and provide the link to the user for downloading. Are there any better ways to handle this problem, I am still thinking about how to get rid of the result that gets shown in the browser that is sent by the "passthru()".   Hello! Even though I've been a stalker here for ages, this is the first post I'm making. Hopefully, it won't end here and more optimistically future posts might actually be me trying to give a hand to someone else, I do owe this community that much and more. Now, what I'm trying to do is simple and most probably the reason behind it not working is my own stupidity. However, I'm stumped here. I'm working on an ASP.Net website that interacts with an SQL Server 2008 R2 database. So far everything has been going okay but updating a row (or more) just won't work. I even tried copying and pasting code from this site and others but it's always the same thing. In short: No exception or errors are shown when the update command executes (it even gives the correct count of affected rows) but no changes are actually made on the database. • How do I dynamically import a module in App Engine?

  I'm trying to dynamically load a class from a specific module (called 'commands') and the code runs totally cool on my local setup running from a local Django server. This bombs out though when I deploy to Google App Engine. I've tried adding the commands module's parent module to the import as well with no avail (on either setup in that case). Here's the code: mod = __import__('commands.%s' % command, globals(), locals(), [command]) return getattr(mod, command) App Engine just throws an ImportError whenever it hits this. And the clarify, it doesn't bomb out on the commands module. If I have a command like 'commands.cat' it can't find 'cat'.

• WPF: Can't get to original source from ExecutedRoutedEventArgs

  I have a problem getting to the original source of a command using ExecutedRoutedEventArgs. I'm creating a simple splitbutton, in which a menu will appear below a dedicated button, as another button is pressed. When I click a menuitem in the appearing menu a command is fired. This command is registered on the splitbutton. And the idea is to get to the menuitem beeing clicked, by using the ExecutedRoutedEventsArgs. Ok, now the problem. If I choose to have the popup menu shown by default (IsOpen="True") and I click one of the menuitems I can get to the originalsource (thus the menuitem) from the ExecutedRoutedEventArgs - no problem. However, if I first click the button to show the menu and THEN click on a menuitem, the originalsource of the command will be the button instead of the MenuItem!   I press ALT+F2 key on my keyboard, and get the launcher HUD up. From there I enter a command as I would in a shell, specifically vlc ~/Music/* -Z. If done from a shell, vlc starts and begins to play music. However, when done from the launcher, VLC replies: File reading failed: VLC could not open the file "/home/[username]/Music/*". (No such file or directory) user Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///home/[username]/Music/%2A'. Check the log for details. I can't quite figure out what the difference is.

• System crashed while upgrading, now unable to recover. Please help

  Yesterday while upgrading from 11.4 to 11.10, due to power cut my system crashed. Ubuntu is unable to boot. While booting I get two options in grub, one is for recovery mode and the other is for normal ubuntu booting (and others are also thr for mem check and booting to windows). When I try to boot it normally, it pauses booting while displaying ' Checking battery statues' . Though i am not using a laptop, I am on a desktop. And In recovery mode the menu has 4 options - resume boot, fsck , remount and root ( to goto shell prompt) . If I go to shell and type ' apt-get dist upgrade' , it shows - W: not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock E:unable to write to /var/cache/apt E:The package lists or status files could not be parsed or opened. Please instruct me to recover from this situation.

• Ubuntu 12.04 x64 - Very slow response and sluggishness

  Recently updated to 12.04 x64 on my AMD HEX core 4GB system, over the last few days I feel that the overall system is sluggish/laggy , for instance hitting the dash button, the dash opens but the recent activity of files/videos etc is incredibly slow to populate, like wise in Nautilus and browsing my media, the file names are showing up but it takes an age to populate the "thumb" of the video, If I go into Gnome-shell the shell response is a little faster but again clicking on applications there is still a noticeable pause. I have the latest Nvidia Drivers loaded and I have very fast SATA drives, if I reboot into windows 7 the system is so much quicker in its response, I only use windows for games and Ubuntu is my main OS. 10.04/10.10/11.04 was Super quick and this was when the system still had a Duel Core Chip and a worse Nvidia card, 11.10 was pretty snappy, but 12.04 just feels bloated on each system I have installed it on. My hardware is more than up to the task so has anyone got any commands i can run to help diagnose the issue? Anyone else got the same problems? Thanks Murph

  I'm running windows xp and I've got MiniMagick and ImageMagick installed (latest versions). I'm now using the console to test out that everything works. Using the ms command prompt image magick works no problem. I'm testing this by using the identify command. Now, when I try to use MiniMagick from the console by entering image = MiniMagick::Image.new('image.jpg') It returns MiniMagickError, "ImageMagick command ("identify \"input.jpg\"") failed: {:status_code = #"'identify' is not recognized as an internal or external command,\noperable program or batch file.\n"} Can anybody help?
