• Render multiple control collections in ASP.NET custom control

  I've build a custom WebControl, which has the following structure: <gws:ModalBox ID="ModalBox1" HeaderText="Title" runat="server"> <Contents>(controls...)</Contents> <Footer>(controls...)</Footer> </gws:ModalBox> The control contains two ControlCollection properties, 'Contents' and 'Footer'. Never tried to build a control with multiple control collections, but solved it like this (simplified): [PersistChildren(false), ParseChildren(true)] public class ModalBox : WebControl { private ControlCollection _contents; private ControlCollection _footer; public ModalBox() : base() { this._contents = base.CreateControlCollection(); this._footer = base.CreateControlCollection(); } [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public ControlCollection Contents { get { return this._contents; } } [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public ControlCollection Footer { get { return this._footer; } } protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output) { // Render content controls. foreach (Control control in this.Contents) { control.RenderControl(output); } // Render footer controls. foreach (Control control in this.Footer) { control.RenderControl(output); } } } However it seems to render properly, it doesn't work anymore if I add some asp.net labels and input controls inside the property. I'll get the HttpException: Unable to find control with id 'KeywordTextBox' that is associated with the Label 'KeywordLabel'. Somewhat understandable, because the label appears before the textbox in the controlcollection. However, with default asp.net controls it does work, so why doesn't this work? What am I doing wrong? Is it even possible to have two control collections in one control? Should I render it differently? Thanks for replies.

• Upload An Excel File in Classic ASP On Windows 2003 x64 Using Office 2010 Drivers

  So, we are migrating an old web app from a 32-bit server to a newer 64-bit server. The app is basically a Classic ASP app. The pool is set to run in 64-bit and cannot be set to 32-bit due to other components. However, this breaks the old usage of Jet drivers and subsequent parsing of Excel files. After some research, I downloaded the 64-bit version of the new 2010 Office System Driver Beta and installed it. Presumably, this allows one to open and read Excel and CSV files. Here's the snippet of code that errors out. Think I followed the lean guidelines on the download page: Set con = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") con.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0;Data Source=" & strPath & ";Extended Properties=""Excel 14.0;""" con.Open Any ideas why? UPDATE: My apologies. I did forget the important part, the error message: ADODB.Connection error '800a0e7a' Provider cannot be found.   Hi there, I am trying to create a menu using ASP (I have never used ASP before, im a PHP man) using values stored in a database. basically the html layout i want is as such: <ul> <li> <ul class="sub-menu"> <li class="sub-menu-li">Test</li> </ul> </li> </ul> I need to loop around the root menu items rs("AD_Level") which is equal to 0 for root objects, then inside that loop, lop around anything that has the same parent id eg if the current record is AD_Level =0 and AD_Parent=5 then loop around all items with AD_Parent 5 and AD_Level != 0 and insert the values into html and so on and so forth. Please help!   hi I have created an actionscript function which stops an animation on a specific frame which works fine. I have then loaded in a php file with a variable which will contain the number for the frame i want the animation to stop on.   Does the same connection string used on two different physical servers hosting different web applications that talk to the same database draw connections from the same connection pool? Or are pooled connections confined to at the application level? I ask because I inherited a 7 year old .NET 1.1 web application which is riddled with in-line SQL, unclosed and undisposed sql connection and datareader objects. Recently, I was tasked to write a small web app that is hosted on another server and talks to the same database and therefore used the same database connection string. I created a LINQ object to read and write the one table required by the app. Now the original .NET 1.1 app is throwing exceptions like "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached." Maybe these are unreleated, but wanted to get your opinions to make sure I cover all my bases. Thanks!

  Hi im calling an aps.net web service from a php service. The service searches both databases with a search parameter. Im not sure how to pass a search parameter to the asp.net service. My custom control is used to render an item within the Repeater. Because of this, I am trying to set properties on the custom control during the myControl_Load event handler. However, I do not know how to access the current item during the myControl_Load event. Is there a way I can pass along the current item or access the current item during the myControl_Load event? How could I pass those form errors in a session to be displayed back in the original form (which should still be filled out with the previous details, as in the original error_messages behavior)?   I've got a .net button that has an href attribute value set to 'javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$cp1$ucInvoiceSearch$btnSearch", "", true, "", "", false, true))'. I've got a textbox that when I press enter I want it to fire this event. Doing the 'Enter' event isn't an issue but I can't get the event on the href to fire using .click(). Here's my function so far: $("[id*='tbInvNo']").keyup(function(event){ var $btn = $(".pnl-invoice-search"); if(event.keyCode == 13) $btn.click(); }); I've got no idea how to get this to fire. Hope someone can help - jQuery and asp.net are driving me up the wall today! :(

• ASP.net file operations delay

  Ok, so here's the problem: I'm reading the stream from a FileUpload control, reading in chunks of n bytes and writing the array in a loop until I reach the stream's end. Now the reason I do this is because I need to check several things while the upload is still going on (rather than doing a Save(); which does the whole thing in one go). Here's the problem: when doing this from the local machine, I can see the file just fine as it's uploading and its size increases (had to add a Sleep(); clause in the loop to actually get to see the file being written). However, when I upload the file from a remote machine, I don't get to see it until the the file has completed uploading. Also, I've added another call to write the progress to a text file as the progress is going on, and I get the same thing. Local: the file updates as the upload goes on, remote: the token file only appears after the upload's done (which is somewhat useless since I need it while the upload's still happening). Is there some sort of security setting in (or ASP.net) that maybe saves files in a temporary location for remote machines as opposed to the local machine and then moves them to the specified destination? I would liken this with ASP.net displaying error messages when browsing from the local machine (even on the public hostname) as opposed to the generic compilation error page/generic exception page that is shown when browsing from a remote machine (and customErrors are not off) Any clues on this?   Hi all, I am implementing an multilingual web site using ASP.Net. The languages are English,French and Arabic. Please note that Arabic's direction is RTL. What is the best way to implement the multilingual support. I am planning to use the .Net localization feature but the website texts are stored in DB. For the controls ( form controls) , I can used resx file. Do I need to build two different pages ( one for LTR and another for RTL )? Or can I have one ASPx file for all the three languages? Here what i am doing in the code is, when they are creating new user i am getting a max id from DB and increasing the value to 1. For Web Forms I could use the javascript Back() or Go(-1) functions, but they relied on postbacks. I could of course hard code the previous page and controller as I have done above. However I am struggling to find links that explain to me how Url.Action works. Because if I do this, I also need to include an index parameter, and I am not clear how the syntax works for that. It seems odd the amount of coding to do this. Out of curiosity, I am also wondering how you TDD client side code like this.

  Hi guys, Is there any way to find out if ASP.Net runtime has served a cached copy of ASPX page or actually went through the page life cycle? Here is my problem: I'm seeing many entries in my IIS log files that were served successfully (200 OK). I've a corresponding logging code (Log4Net API) in the Session_Start and Application_BeginRequest() events that is logging every request to my DB with more details. I'm not seeing any corresponding entries in my SQL DB for some cases that should have been created by Log4Net code. Are there any logs available to find out if a cached copy was served by .NET worker process? Moreover, if my logging code would throw an exception, won't that show up as 500 in IIS logs? The code is on Windows 2008 Server, IIS 7.

• Separating Content (aspx) from Code (aspx.cs) in ASP.NET

  I would like to know what is the best practice on separating the content of an aspx page (ASP.NET 3.5) from the code (I'm using C#). I have a form that users can type data in - for example they are allowed to enter a percent. If they Otherwise for example I would like to display the following error messages: <p id="errormsg" class="percenthigh">Please enter a percent below 100</p> <p id="errormsg" class="percentnegative">Percent cannot be below 0</p> <p id="errormsg" class="percentnot">This is not a percent</p> So in essence I'm hiding the error messages and showing one depending on what the user input is. I believe this is the best way to seperate the content from the code behind. However, how do I select elements and hide/unhide them depending on the user input? I'm aware I can do a runat="server" on the elements but the problem is that I can't select by class and am limited only to ID's. What workarounds do you recommend? Aside from putting in the values in code behind which is notoriously difficult to debug. Also has this been "fixed" in ASP.NET 4?

• Multiblog engine for asp.net

  I know, different forms of this questions were asked on this site multiple times, but I haven't seen a single answer that would satisfy my need. I need a ASP.NET based blogging engine that wouul use SQL Server as a back end and allow multiple independet blogs in one app instance. I'm writing a community website for major bank and blogging is the piece I'm not sure about. Answers to other questions include a broad spectrum from BlogEngine.NET (doesn't support multiple blogs) to CommunityServer (a beast! blogging is just asmall piece of it). I don't want to install a full-blown CRM and just use blogging, I want a blogging engine. I don't mind to buy a commercial one but I can't find one. I'm pretty much stuck, and any ideas are highly appreciated!

  I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/). If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?
