  • Is PHP serialize function compatible UTF-8 ?

    I have a site I want to migrate from ISO to UTF-8. I have a record in database indexed by the following primary key : s:22:"Informations générales"; The problem is, now (with UTF-8), when I serialize the string, I get : s:24:"Informations générales"; (notice the size of the string is now the number of bytes, not string length) So this is not compatible with non-utf8 previous records ! Did I do something wrong ? How could I fix this ? Thanks

    I got an image upload function working, but there's 4 images required in this image. And my current function is simply just overwriting the image despite the number. I'm wondering how I would insert (preferably) a letter into my foreach function. $uploads = array($this->uploads->data()); foreach ( $uploads as $key[] => $value ) { $imagename = $cleaned . '-s' . $value['file_ext']; //outputs clean-name-s.ext } By the time all is said and done, 4 images will require this function. Leaving me with clean-name-sa.ext, clean-name-sb.ext, clean-name-sc.ext, and clean-name-sd.ext (numbers work as well). The form does require that all 4 fields are filled out before submission, so would I just create an array of my desired identifiers and create a foreach loop that outputs 4 different $imagenames? Or is there a simpler, more logical approach to this.

  • Creating a user-defined code generation system in PHP

    My newest project that I'm looking to build with CodeIgniter would require some sort of system that would allow a user to drag and drop pre-defined functions/methods into mini-classes/objects and then run/test them in the browser. So it'd something similar to Scratch. I've designed a relational database that I think could work for this (storing the function names and have these classes "subscribe" to those functions) - but I'm wondering whether or not to go ahead with it. Is there a better way to do this or is there a system out there that would accomplish this for me? EDIT: It would have to be extremely simple for an end user, but hopefully be flexible enough to easily add more complex functionality in the future.

Is this at all possible?

    Ok, I'm using an ICS parser utility to parse google calendar ICS files. It works great, except google is feeding me the times of the events at UCT.. so I need to subtract 5 hours now, and 6 hours when daylight savings happens. To get the start time I'm using: $timestart = date("g:iA",strtotime(substr($event['DTSTART'], 9, -3))); //$event['DTSTART'] feeds me back the date in ICS format: 20100406T200000Z So any suggestions how to handle timezone and daylight savings time?     I have a folder/array of images, it may be 1, maximum of 12. What I need to do is dynamically add them so the images are added to an images table. At the moment I have $directory = "portfolio_images/$id/Thumbs/"; $images = glob("" . $directory . "*.jpg"); for ( $i= 0; $i <= count($images); $i += 1) { mysql_query("INSERT INTO project_images (image_name, project_id)VALUES ('$images[0]', '$id')") or die(mysql_error()); } this is fine but it does not feel right, how is this for performance? I find a way: take all the unseen mails for the curent day(ex:9 may 2010), loop it and for then checking if it was send in the last X minutes echo it( using the imap_headerinfo-udate )BUT when i looked at gmail.com one email was recevied at 17:08 and on my server appears that the email was received at 14:08 Dan

Am I missing something?

    Hi, I am creating a custom social network for one of my clients. In this I am storing the friends of a user in the form of CSV as shown below in the user table uid user_name friends 1 John 2 2 Jack 3,1 3 Gary 2,4 4 Joey 3 In the above scenario if the logged in user is John and if he visits the profile page of Joey, the connection between them should appear as John-Jack-Gary-Joey I am able to establish the connection at level 1 i.e If Jack visits Joey's profile I am able to establish the following : Jack-Gary-Joey But for the 2nd level I need to get into the same routine of for loops which I know is not the right solution + I am not able to implement that as well.
