  • C# - Getting a RawFraction Performance Counter to show a persistant value

    - by jacko
I've created a performance counter that shows a fraction of an incremeted value (RawFraction type) over a base value (RawBase). Unfortunately, when monitoring this value, it only shows the percentage when one of the counters is incremented. At all other times it it is sampled, it shows 0. Is there some way to tell the counter to hold onto the last value until the next time it needs to recalculate the fraction?

  • What is instrumentation?

    - by Jon Seigel
I've heard this term used a lot in the same context as logging, but I can't seem to find a clear definition of what it actually is. Is it simply a more general class of logging/monitoring tools and activities? Please provide sample code/scenarios when/how instrumentation should be used.

  • Implementing a continuous "revert-buffer" aka Textpad

    - by vedang
One of my colleagues uses TextPad, and one feature I found really useful is the Auto-Reload. (The feature has been described in this SO quesion: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1246083/alternative-to-textpads-prompt-to-reload-file). Basically, it keeps reloading the file without any prompt from the user, which is really helpful when monitoring log files that are updated in real-time. Is there something similar available for Emacs? If not, can anyone whip up the required elisp magic?

  • How to set up a wcf-structure over internet, and not on the localhost

    - by djerry
    Hey guys, I want to convert the wcf-structure i have from localhost to a service which runs over the internet. My server starts when replacing the localhost with my ip-address. But then my clients cannot connect to the server anymore. This is my server setup : static void Main(string[] args) { NetTcpBinding binding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.Message); Uri address = new Uri("net.tcp://192.168.10.26"); //_svc = new ServiceHost(typeof(MonitoringSystemService), address); _monSysService = new MonitoringSystemService(); _svc = new ServiceHost(_monSysService, address); publishMetaData(_svc, "http://192.168.10.26"); _svc.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMonitoringSystemService), binding, "Monitoring Server"); _svc.Open(); } My app.config for the client looks like this : <configuration> <system.diagnostics> <sources> <source name="System.ServiceModel" switchValue="Information, ActivityTracing" propagateActivity="true"> <listeners> <add name="traceListener" type="System.Diagnostics.XmlWriterTraceListener" initializeData= "c:\log\Traces.svclog" /> </listeners> </source> </sources> </system.diagnostics> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService" closeTimeout="00:00:10" openTimeout="00:00:10" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:00:10" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxConnections="500" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="100000" maxArrayLength="100000" maxBytesPerRead="100000" maxNameTableCharCount="100000" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="Message"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign"> <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> </transport> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://192.168.10.26/Monitoring%20Server" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService" contract="IMonitoringSystemService" > <!--name="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService"--> <identity> <userPrincipalName value="DJERRYY\djerry" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration>

  • How can an IBM WebSphere MQ's Queue Manager's local queues be enumerated?

    - by Jean-Paul Calderone
I'm trying to write a simple tool for monitoring the state of a Queue Manager. One of the things I'd like to monitor is the current queue depth of each queue. I haven't been able to find a way to programmatically enumerate all of the queues on a particular Queue Manager, though. Do any of the MQ APIs provide this functionality? I'd prefer to do this with C, but if it's only possible with another language's bindings, I'd at least like to know that.

  • Monitor Network Traffic Mac

    - by Tom Irving
I'm wondering how to go about monitoring network traffic on my Mac. Like the way activity monitor does it, showing the bytes / packets in and out. I know it's a bit vague, but I'm unsure of the best place to start.

  • Python Script to check website for a tag

    - by LinuxGnut
Hello all. I'm trying to figure out how to go about writing a website monitoring script (cron job in the end) to open up a given URL, check to see if a tag exists, and if the tag does not exist, or doesn't contain the expected data, then to write some to a log file, or to send an e-mail. The tag would be something like or something relatively similar. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Getting file updates in folders with no permission.

    - by Wesley
I've been working on a program to monitor a network folder to find out which spreadsheets our company uses are the most popular. I'm using the FileSystemWatcher class in C# to do the monitoring. I've noticed I'm getting updates to files that are in folders that my user does not have permission to browse. I understand that my software is subscribing to a list of updates done by other system software and not actually browsing those files itself, but is this functionality intentional or is it a bug?

  • How to get the EJB listening port?

    - by Alotor
I'm currently developing a library for monitoring calls to several remote services (WebServices, EJBs...). One of the parameters that i would like to register is the port from which a EJB is called (a Stateless Session Bean invoked like a remote object) There is any standarised way of getting the port? Or should I inspect the JNDI tree for this kind of information? I'm using the EJB 2.1 spec, but it's also posible for me to use EJB 3

  • Firebug's "net" tab is not showing anything?

    - by Jian Lin
I usually run Fiddler for net traffic monitoring and now am using a Mac machine. I thought Firebug's net tab can show the traffic that is fetched through AJAX (the net tab is enabled). But if I try google.com, and type in something, its "google suggest" will show a bunch of suggestions, but the Firebug's "net" tab is not showing anything?

  • How to communicate between service controller and a service/daemon?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
It is easy to display the status of a Windows service or to control it (start/stop) from a GUI application but the question if how about receiving/sending notifications from the service? Like: service telling to the user monitoring it that it needs attention. Please consider that you can have several controllers started at any time in a multi-user environment. Do you know an example(open source) for this kind of communication? Extra points for a platform independent solution :)

  • Simulating a missing gem in Ruby unit tests

    - by ktex
Is there any way to simulate the absence of a gem for certain unit tests, short of actually uninstalling and then reinstalling the gem during testing? I am writing a command line utility, and want to make sure that my tests cover cases where a user may not have all of the gems that I support. For instance, I am using fsevents — a Leopard-specific package for monitoring filesystem events — that will never be present on other systems, as well as a growl gem that's purely optional.
