• spike in my inverse fourier transform

  I am trying to compare two data sets in MATLAB. To do this I need to filter the data sets by Fourier transforming the data, filtering it and then inverse Fourier transforming it. When I inverse Fourier transform the data however I get a spike at either end of the red data set (picture shows the first spike), it should be close to zero at the start, like the blue line. I am comparing many data sets and this only happens occasionally. I have three questions about this phenomenon. First, what may be causing it, secondly, how can I remedy it, and third, will it affect the data further along the time series or just at the beginning and end of the time series as it appears to from the picture. Any help would be great thanks.

• Slug ID's with the same name?

  I want to create slug URL's from a users title in my system. If a user types "The best way's to get slim; period!", then I want the slug to be "the-best-ways-to-get-slim-period". Also, if someone has already created a page with that title I want the slug to be "the-best-ways-to-get-slim-period-1". My question is how can I check the database before a record is created? Ok, obviously I am going to have to perform a check in the database, and then a write. That's 2 queries. Is this the normal way to do it? Also, are there any conventional regular expressions for filtering non alpha/number characters and replacing spaces with hyphens? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

• Cast an NSDictionary value while applying an NSPredicate?

  Hi I have an Array of NSDictionary objects. These Dictionaries are parsed from a JSON file. All value objects in the NSDictionary are of type NSString, one key is called "distanceInMeters". I had planned on filtering these arrays using an NSPredicate, so I started out like this: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(distanceInMeters <= %f)", newValue]; NSArray *newArray = [oldArray filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]; I believe this would have worked if the value for the "distanceInMeters" key was an NSNumber, but because I have it from a JSON file everything is NSStrings. The above gives this error:* -[NSCFNumber length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3936f00** Which makes sense as I had just tried to treat an NSString as an NSNumber. Is there a way to cast the values from the dictionary while they are being filtered, or maybe a completely different way of getting around this? Hope someone can help me :)

  I have a dataview that contains a list of tables. I am reading in a list of values that I then want to apply as a filter to this dataview. The list of values is actually in the form of "table1, table2, table3". So I thought I would be able to use this as a filter on my dataview. SqlOp.CommandText = "select name from dbo.sysobjects where xtype='u'"; SqlOp.ExecuteDataReader(); DataView dv = SqlOp.GetDataAsDataView(); SqlOp.CloseConnection(); Returns a list of all the tables in a dataview. I have a program with custom algorythm (not the fft, or usial filtering) and I want to accelerate it using multi-DSP coprocessor. So, how should I modify source to move computation from main CPU to DSPs? What limitations are there for DSP-running code? I have some experience with CUDA. In CUDA I should mark every function as being host, device, or entry point for device (kernel). There are also functions to start kernels and to upload/download data to/from GPU. There are also some limitations, for device code, described in CUDA Reference manual. I hope, there is an similar interface and a documentation for DSP.

  I want to add some authentication to my odata service. Depending on the user calling i want to: filter rows and/or remove columns.   When one selects a Tag on stackoverflow, it is added to the end of the Url. Add a second Tag and it is add to the end of the Url after the first Tag, with a '+' delimiter. For example, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/ruby-on-rails+best-practices. How is this implemented? Is this a routing enhancement or some logic contained in the TagsController? Finally, how does one 'extract' these Tags for filtering (assuming that they are not in the params[] array)?

  My main entity is called [Contract]. Contract has a many 2 many relationship w/ [Service]. When I query for a list of Contracts I grab the 1st Service available like this: q.Select(c => new ContractSearchResult() { ContractID = c.ContractID, FirstService = c.Contract2Service.FirstOrDefault().Service.Name, ServiceCount = c.Contract2Service.Count, } ).ToList(); q is an IQueryable that has some filtering & paging already applied. (When I display this list I show the FirstService if there's only 1. If 1 I show "My1stService (3)" to show I'm seeing the 1st of 3 services) This works fine. My question is this: Is there any way to sort by FirstService? Or is this impossible? I haven't found a way of expressing this in linq. Any help would be appreciated.

• Stripe suppression algorithm needed

  I have images with text. There are dark stripes in image that still exists in binary image too. That makes characters connected with that stripe - it can be vertical or horizontal (or at some angle) I need to remove them from image at first, and then to binarize. I've seen bandpass filter in ImageJ program that have some options like - suppress horizontal stripes, and it works good, but it also apply a bandpass filtering. So any idea please how to do it. I think it should be done in frequency domain.

  In Oracle (10g), when I use a View (not Materialized View), does Oracle take into account the where clause when it executes the view? Let's say I have: MY_VIEW = SELECT * FROM PERSON P, ORDERS O WHERE P.P_ID = O.P_ID And I then execute the following: SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234' When this executes, does oracle first execute the query for the view and THEN filter it based on my where clause (where MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234') or does it do this filtering as part of the execution of the view? If it does not do the latter, and P_ID had an index, would I also lose out on the indexing capability since Oracle would be executing my query against the view which doesn't have the index rather than the base table which has the index?

  I'm trying EF out and I do a lot of filtering based on many to many relationships. For instance I have persons, locations and a personlocation table to link the two. I also have a role and personrole table. EDIT: Tables: Person (personid, name) Personlocation (personid, locationid) Location (locationid, description) Personrole (personid, roleid) Role (roleid, description) EF will give me persons, roles and location entities. EDIT: Since EF will NOT generate the personlocation and personrole entity types, they cannot be used in the query. How do I create a query to give me all the persons of a given location with a given role? In SQL the query would be select p.* from persons as p join personlocations as pl on p.personid=pl.personid join locations as l on pl.locationid=l.locationid join personroles as pr on p.personid=pr.personid join roles as r on pr.roleid=r.roleid where r.description='Student' and l.description='Amsterdam' I've looked, but I can't seem to find a simple solution.

• git status: how to ignore some changes

  Is there a way to have git status ignore certain changes within a file? Background I have some files in my repository that are auto-generated (yes, I know that's typically not recommended, but I have no power to change this). Whenever I build my tree, these auto-generated files have status information updated in them (who generated them, a timestamp, etc.). When I say git status, I'd like it to run a filter on these generated files that strips out this transient status information. I only want it to show up in the "Changed but not updated:" section of git's output if there are other, real changes. Using the .gitattributes approach found at http://progit.org/book/ch7-2.html, I am able to get git diff to ignore these status line changes using a simple egrep filter. I'd like to get git status to also use textconv filters (or something equivalent). I'd prefer it if merges aren't affected by any of this filtering.

Is there a way to generate accessor methods for the subclasses as shown in the inheritance mapping above (Project, Task, etc...) without doing it manually? I added them manually but then a change in the designer overwrites any manual changes. Am i doing this wrong? should I not be making accessors for the sub classes? filtering from ActivityBase seems worse to me. Thanks for any help on this.

  I am trying to do a search with some criteria FullTextQuery fullTextQuery = fullTextSession.createFullTextQuery(finalQuery, KnowledgeBaseSolution.class).setCriteriaQuery(criteria); and then page it //Gives me around 700 results result.setResultCount(fullTextQuery.getResultSize()); //Some pages are empty fullTextQuery.setFirstResult(( (pageNumber - 1) * pageSize )); fullTextQuery.setMaxResults( pageSize ); result.setResults(fullTextQuery.list()); I suspect Lucene return full result of the full text search without taking the criteria into account and then hibernate search applies the criteria after, therefore some page are empty (after filtering by criteria) What is proper way to do fullTextSearch with some criteria, is it possible to apply the criteria before the lucene search? Or do I have to use pure Lucene (if so what's the point of Hibernate Search?) Thanks in advance

• Does it make sense to have more than one UDP Datagram socket on standby? Are "simultaneous" packets

  I'm coding a networking application on Android. I'm thinking of having a single UDP port and Datagram socket that receives all the datagrams that are sent to it and then have different processing queues for these messages. I'm doubting if I should have a second or third UDP socket on standby. Some messages will be very short (100bytes or so), but others will have to transfer files. My concern is, will the Android kernel drop the small messages if it's too busy handling the bigger ones? Update "The latter function calls sock_queue_rcv_skb() (in sock.h), which queues the UDP packet on the socket's receive buffer. If no more space is left on the buffer, the packet is discarded. Filtering also is performed by this function, which calls sk_filter() just like TCP did. Finally, data_ready() is called, and UDP packet reception is completed."

  hi, I've installed http://drupal.org/project/spamspan module for Drupal (drupal.org/project/spamspan), in order to obfuscate the e-mail addresses on my website. However I'm not sure it is working. I can see the email url from source html and I think the module is not filtering anything. I've added some e-mails in the text editor CKEditor. Is it automatically detecting these emails written in text editor ? I haven't find any settings menu, after I installed the module. I guess there is not. thanks

• All comments get marked as spam regardless (Wordpress MU)

  Everyone (besides me) who comments on another persons blog gets marked as spam when they comment on other peoples blogs. When they comment on their own its fine. Might be related, I've installed reCaptcha and have disabled it for logged in users yet everyone who is logged in still sees it, I don't, and incidentally my comments don't get marked as spam. I don't have akismet or hashcash or any other form of spam filtering turned out (with the exception of super captcha for registration). Any idea what's wrong or where I should look first?

• Tinymce extended_valid_elements for BBcodes?

  I use Tinymce with BBcodes plugin so the tags used in the editor are [B] [U] [I] [quote] [color]. If you are familiar with TinyMce there is a great option to filter all unwanted tags when pasting to the editor. Unfortunately i think this is not working for BBcodes mode, what i want is to remove any <TAGS> Or Other Unwanted BBcodes such as [url] & [img] So, my white list is : [B] [U] [I] [quote] [color=XXXXXX]. I'm already filtering in the server side, but i want this to be implemented in the client side too, So by example if someone copied from a webpage a mix of images and urls and formatted text, every image will be stripped and every url will be "unclickable" directly after pasting.   We're letting users search a database from a single text input and I'm having difficulties in filtering some user supplied strings. For example, if the user submits: ????????? lcd SONY (Note the ?'s) I need to cancel the search. I include the base64 encoded version of the above string wrapped up so that its easy run: print(base64_decode("1MfLxc/RwdPHIGxjZCBTT05Z")); I've ignored such inputs before but now (am not sure why) just realised the mysql database query is taking nearly forever to execute so this is now on high priority. Another example to highlight that we are using utf-8 and mb_detect_encoding is not helping much: print(base64_decode("zqDOm8+Fzr3PhM63z4HOuc6/IM+Bzr/Phc+HzyU=")); ????t???? ?????% So: how can I detect/filter these inputs? how is this input being generated?

  hi! I'm using Drupal Views with an exposed filter (improved with better exposed filters module) based on taxonomy. I have a list of nodes and for each node I assigned several tags. I would like to add the following functionalities to the filter: 1 - when few tags are selected, I would like to disable all tags that are not possible to combine with the selected ones. In other terms, disable a tag if it is not visible in the filtered nodes. In this way I highlight only a subset of tags, to help the user to continue filtering the content. 2 - when I move the mouse over an article I would like to highlight the tags that are associated with such node with a different color. That is, if I selected TAGA, and the node also contains TAGB, and TAGC, I would like to highlight the last 2 tags if I move the mouse over the node. thanks

• What's the best way to view/analyse/filter huge traces/logfiles?

  this seems to be a reoccurring issue: we receive a bug report for our software and with it tons of traces or logfiles. since finding errors is much easier when having a visualization of the log messages/events over time it is convenient to use a tool that can display the progression of events in a graph etc. (e.g. wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org) for analyzing network traffic) what tool do you use for such a purpose? the problem with most tools i used so far is that they mercilessly break down when you feed them huge data traces ( 1GB) so some criteria for such a tool would be: can deal with huge input files ( 1 GB) is really fast (so you don't have to get coffee while a file is loading) has some sort of filtering mechanism
