• Python configuration file generator

  I want to use Python to make a configuration file generator. My roughly idea is feeding input with template files and some XML files with the real settings. Then use the program to generate the real configuration files. I got several questions: Is there any open source configuration generator program? (what could be the keyword), I wonder if there's anything can be added/modified in the design. Does Python have good XML parser module? Is it good idea to use XML file to save the original settings? I've been thinking to use Excel since it's more intuitive to maintain, but harder for program to parse. Not sure how people deal with this. Hope the community can give me some suggestions.   I want to list the number of items for each list. How can I find this number in a single query, rather than a query for each list? Here is a simplified version of my current template code: {% for list in lists %} <li> {{ listname }}: {% with list.num_items as item_count %} {{ item_count }} item{{ item_count|pluralize }} {% endwith %} </li> {% endfor %} lists is passed as: List.objects.filter(user=user) and num_items is a property of the List model: def _get_num_items(self): return self.item_set.filter(archived=False).count() num_items = property(_get_num_items) This queries SELECT COUNT(*) FROM "my_app_item" WHERE... n times, where n is the number of lists. Is it possible to make a single query here?

• MS Access Crashed an now all Form objects and code modules are missing

  I was adding a form to our Access 07 db. I copied an existing form to use as a template, renamed it, and saved it. I opened a different form to check something and Access crashed. When I reopened the database it says: "Access has detected that this database is in an inconsistent state, and will attempt to recover the database." etc. When it reopened - all forms and reports were missing. Saved queries remain. The error message states that object recovery failures will be noted in a Recovery Errors table - but this table wasn't created. The links to the be database remained intact. The database is split - I was experimenting with a form on a front-end copy which might have something to do with it. Any ideas what would cause this (I can see loosing recent work - but nixing all form objects?!) And is there any chance of recovery?

How does it know?

• XSLT ... I can'f find a (working) find minimum value in XML and set variable

  I've search for hours and not found an example that allows for the very first position to be the lowest. I'm getting 'False' instead of the value returned .... EDIT: Oddly enough if I run a 2nd instance as MAX_Landed with ascending it returns a value just fine. If I switch the order in the XSLT the first instance will return 'False' and the 2nd will work. Hope I'm making sense ..... • Include a repetitive chunk of html with PHP?

  I basically have a div on my Web Site that always has the same stuff. However, this div is not present on all pages which is why I won't use the dynamic web template. I was wondering if it was possible for PHP to get the code from a document on the server and put in into the div? Ex: div id="section... then my text file contains (p) hello (p) basically I want PHP to put it into the div when the user sees it. If theres a smarter way of acheiving this I'd be open to it aswell.   I have multiple templates which differs with each other only by few containers. The most complex one contains superset of all containers used in all other one thus to avoid creating multiple templates I created the most complex one in following format some layout stuff (div and all) defining nested insert for each container and content. Now in client template based on what is needed I turn off container which is not needed as else if container is needed, just define content as doSomething Please let me know if you guys see any issues with this approach, any potential problem or alternate approach for similar scenario. thanks a lot. • How do you insert new entries into an Access db table through an ASP.net website?

  I need to insert new records into an Access database. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and firstly create a asp.net website. I can connect to the information in Access databse using dataview or gridview and can query a particular entry (ie. Proposal No. -brings up all details linking to that proposal). I can then edit the details of that proposal and this would update the Access Db. What I need to do is to have a form that simply enters new details for a new customer. ie. Enter name [__] Enter Adress[__]. Then for this to update the database. By using the gridview or dataview I am able to view all fields that exist in the table and edit them. Is there a way that I can get a blank gridview/dataview template (which includes all the fields in the table) and fill it out to then update the database? Thanks

• Can I change my Universal App to an iPad-only app without creating a new project in XCode?

  Hi there, I've created an iPad game using the Universal App Xcode template. Since I'm in late with the iPhone/iPod Touch branch of the app, I've decided to submit the app only for iPad and to update the app to universal in a second time. Question: Do I have to create a new iPad project and copy there all the code and stuff, or can I simply change the deployment target to iPad only and I'm done? I simply want to be accepted and to avoid iPhone users to be allowed to download the game erroneously. Thank you!

• Latest stream cipher considered reasonably secure & easy to implement?

  (A)RC4 used to fit the bill, since it was so simple to write. But it's also less-than-secure these days. I'm wondering if there's a successor that's: Code is small enough to write & debug within an hour or so, using pseudo code as a template. Still considered secure, as of 2010. Optimized for software. Not encumbered by licensing issues. I can't use crypto libraries, otherwise all of this would be moot. Also, I'll consider block algorithms though I think most are pretty hefty. Thanks.

• Why is iPhone 5 briefly Letterboxing and displaying Default.png in Cocos2d?

  I have [email protected] which loads fine. However, (on the actual device) after it shows the iPhone 5 then displays Default.png, in letter box mode. It then loads the 1136 × 640 px Title Screen - which is fine and what it's supposed to do. I'm using the default Cocos2d HelloWorld template. I haven't changed anything in the plist or otherwise. Any ideas? Why does it load the Default.png and how do you fix this? Thanks. In the IntroLayer we have -(void) onEnter if( UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPhone ) { background = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"Default.png"]; background.rotation = 90; } Which is why Default.png is showing up. How do you keep showing [email protected] if you are using the iPhone 5?

  I have the following XML: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 While this XSL does what is expected (output the attr of the first picture): It seems to be not possible to do the same inside the variable declaration using xsl:copy-of: Curious: If I just select "$FirstPicture" instead of "$FirstPicture/@attr" in the second example, it outputs the text node of Picture 1 as expected... Before you all suggest me to rewrite the code: This is just a simplified test, my real aim is to use a named template to select a node into the variable FirstPicture and reuse it for further selections. I hope someone could help me to understand the behavior or could suggest me a proper way to select a node with code which could be easily reused (the decission which node is the first one is complex in my real application). But it doesn't work, the error is: warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match]: Unknown modifier '.' How can i fix it? Thanks

• Flash Builder 'building' html files...

  I'm using Flash Builder 3 to edit my Flex app, but I noticed that every time I make a change on the .html files (index.template.html for example), even if it's not in the IDE but with another program, Flash Builder rebuilds the whole project. Is there anyway to stop this? Why would it need to rebuild the workspace everytime a html file changes? If it was too long it wouldn't bother me, but it takes a lot of time (more than 1 minute) every time. For your information the html file is 95 lines of 'code'. Thanks

  The standard array-size macro that is often taught is #define ARRAYSIZE(arr) (sizeof(arr) / sizeof(arr[0])) or some equivalent formation. However, this kind of thing silently succeeds when a pointer is passed in, and gives results that can seem plausible at runtime until things mysteriously fall apart. It's all-too-easy to make this mistake: a function that has a local array variable is refactored, moving a bit of array manipulation into a new function called with the array as a parameter. So, the question is: is there a "sanitary" macro to detect misuse of the ARRAYSIZE macro in C, preferably at compile-time? In C++ we'd just use a template specialized for array arguments only; in C, it seems we'll need some way to distinguish arrays and pointers. (If I wanted to reject arrays, for instance, I'd just do e.g. (arr=arr, ...) because array assignment is illegal).

The base page handler gets the current user, and creates a login/logout url appropriately. There are html and css templates, templates for Wordpress, all sorts of different cms templates, e-ecommerce templates, etc. Many of these are pretty cheap and some are even free, so where do web designers fit into this picture? I’ve had many clients and potential customers ask why they should use my services instead of just buying a cheap template. Are web designers being replaced?

  I have an issue where adding this to any asp.net request causes and unhandled error (regardless of CustomErrors setting): ?aspxerrorpath=<script The weird thing is that I have two applications that are totally immune to the problem, but I can't spot the difference. I'm running on IIS 7 and using the 4.0 Framework. But this also happens on my 3.5 IIS 6 apps. Again, I have two sites that are fine (IIS 7, 4.0) but can't determine why. I have tried turning off request validation to no avail. Has anyone encountered something similar? FIXED: This looks like it was an Umbraco issue.   Suppose I have a structure in C or C++, such as: struct ConfigurableElement { int ID; char* strName; long prop1; long prop2; ... }; I would like to load/save it to/from the following XML element: <ConfigurableElement ID="1" strName="namedElem" prop1="2" prop2="3" ... /> Such a mapping can be trivially done in Java/C# or any other language with run-time reflection for the matter. Can it be done in any non-tedious way in C++ with macros/template trickery? Bonus points for handling nested structures/unions.

  Hello Everyone! I am really frustrated and I rally hope that you will help me to solve this problem! I'm trying to build a tab bar inside a navigation controller. I used this template provided by WiredBob. My problem is that I want to add more bar items to the tab bar, but I keep getting crash! From the log: 2010-05-24 00:15:43.469 NavTab[9315:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[UITableViewController loadView] loaded the "AnnView" nib but didn't get a UITableView.' • Get "2:35pm" instead of "02:35PM" from Python date/time?

  I'm still a bit slow with Python, so I haven't got this figured out beyond what's obviously in the docs, etc. I've worked with Django a bit, where they've added some datetime formatting options via template tags, but in regular python code how can I get the 12-hour hour without a leading zero? Is there a straightforward way to do this? I'm looking at the 2.5 and 2.6 docs for "strftime()" and there doesn't seem to be a formatting option there for this case. Should I be using something else? Feel free to include any other time-formatting tips that aren't obvious from the docs. =)

• Guidance on using drop in DLLs

  I have been giving the task to rewrite a internal utility in .net for my work. One of program requirements the new system has is have a dll that implements a set of interfaces and have the program call the DLL. Now this dll will be changed out a lot per deployment. My question is what is the best way to do it from a development standpoint? Do I add a template DLL (one that only has the interfaces but no implementation) to the project references like I would do any other dll that I would use.
