• How do I improve my logic in general and programming in particular?

  I'm good with understanding technology and implementing it. At least that is what I feel. But it seems that when I come across experienced programmers they point out that my logic is weak. I feel that I would need some time with real programming to improve it. But nobody is ready to give that time to me. I'm just about starting my carer and it often feels disheartening to hear this. I want know how can I improve my logic and also does this sort of thing happens to others too?

• Current state of the art for holographic displays?

  In another thread I was asking about independent arcade system development, and partly it was because I'm interested in using available 3D holographic technology for the displays. I saw one which involved a rotating mirror at very high speeds, so that's probably not going to be too feasible (I'd hate to think of what happens when something goes wrong). • Are high office partitions as effective as private offices?

  I'm currently reading DeMarco and Lister's Peopleware, and I've been struck (as everyone is) by their comments about noise reduction via using private offices, and the effect this has on productivity. Private offices are probably not going to happen at my workplace, but I'm wondering if high cubicle partitions (say, 6 feet) might be nearly as good? I imagine they wouldn't deflect quite as much noise, but they would have some effect. One down-side is that the center cubicles would have less natural light. That seems quite a big downer to me. I'd be interested to hear what peoples experiences are.

• Atheros AR2413 wireless not working after shutdown

  I am using a Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer aspire 3680 laptop and my wifi is not working. I followed the below commands to install the madwifi driver: sudo su apt-get install subversion cd /usr/src svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk madwifi tar cfvz madwifi.tgz cd madwifi make && make install echo "blacklist ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo "ath_pci" /etc/modules modprobe ath_pci sudo reboot After installation I am facing the same problem. My wifi wont work after I shutdown. Infact it didn't work after suspend but I rectified that problem by the following commands: Command 1: sudo rmmod -f ath_pci sudo rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe ath_pci along with the command SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci added to the /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi directory. So if I suspend and then on my laptop the wifi loads well and doesn't create a problem. But if I shutdown my laptop the wifi never loads again and eachtime I have to run a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to load it. I did try adding the Command 1 to the /etc/rc.local directory but still it doesn't work. So my question is: What should I do in order to make my wireless work without having to run a live CD of ubuntu 9.04 everytime after shutdown? Thanks. • What is the name for landing pages that are one long page?

  Really don't see them much anymore, but here's an example of what I mean: From comments: These are "high pressure" sales pages, design to overload the user with information, sell them on the belief that what they're buying is what they need, normally have a lot of testimonials, highlighted text, etc. The pages I'm talking about are not user friendly, they're aggressive sales pitches designed to target users wanting to belief the webpage they just landed on will solve there problems for an "affordable" price. Here's an example: www_landingpagecashmachine_com (remove the underscores, since I'm attempting to avoid linking to a site like that...) Bonus points: if you're able to tell me the name of the guy/company that popularized these types of pages; recall hearing about his company years ago, after he died in a crash while racing on a track with his Ferrari club on the west coast of the US. (Update: Appears Corey Rudl was the guy's name, and his company was called "The Internet Marketing Center." Even with that info, I've still been unable to find the name for these type of pages.)

  I updated to Ubuntu 12.04 with Compiz..now Compiz is failing and I have no tool bars or ways of getting to applications except for firefox from a link presented from sending an error report. How am I supposed to: Fix this mess with no navigation to get to the terminal, or software center. When will this problem be fixed? When I updated the system why didn't it change me back to the crappy Unity interface (No offense). If it can't be fixed how do I get my files back?

• Errors when attempting to install vim on Ubuntu 12.04

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my computer few days back. from then i tried to install few programs through Ubuntu software center but it showed that no internet connection even though i was connected to internet. Then i came to know that vi editor will be required to set the system configuration in which i will be able to save my password and proxy. apart from that i also tried to install the programs through terminal but still same problem occurred as it says this is not a candidate for install. i tried to install Vim using command sudo apt-get instal Vim-nox but it shows that broken package and showed many failures. please help me out of this.... thank you

• Menu bars are a basic light gray after installing graphics card driver. [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Desktop forgets theme? Hi, I've just installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. It came up saying I could install 2 proprietary drivers, one for my WiFi adapter (which works perfectly) and one for my graphics card - a Sapphire AIT Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card. The driver is called ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. Before installing this driver I was unable to have Extra Visual Effects in Appearances. However after installing (and restarting) the menu bars are now in a basic light gray mode, rather than the sleek Ubuntu black. - Although Extra Visual Effects does now work. I've tried rebooting, and I've had a look around in ATI "Catalyst Control Center" but nothing has worked so far. Does anybody know what this windows mode is, how to change it back to normal and why it's doing it in the first place? Below is a screenshot of my computer: (This is also the first time I've installed Ubuntu on my computer, and am keen for it to work.)

(It was actually a very generous Christmas present) I would primarily be interested in something like Human Computer Interaction or a similar "creative technology" that involves heavy UI/UX Design, prototyping or Information Architecture.
